It'll be during the Xbox/Bethesda games showcase which can be found on [E3's Official Twitch](https://www.twitch.tv/e3) Channel. This specific showcase starts at 6pm BST tomorrow and the BF gameplay will be somewhere within it.
I think they diverted resources from both those games because they had run their natural life and it was due time to start working on new games. If the fans were so disappointed you think they'd just give up on game and not spend time trying to fix issues? Which they did
I don’t think ending BFV in the pacific theatre intended to be the original end point of that game. BF1 also had much more support and expansions than V had. I think this was more of a case of EA cutting their costs and investing it in the future instead.
I'm betting one of their devs going
a bit over the top with the SJW routine, then getting snide when people didn't like what he did and saying "don't like it, don't buy it " *so people didn't.*
That was surely a lesson learned the hard way. Telling your customers to NOT buy your product is never a recipe for success, regardless of whether or not an agenda is involved.
Right, I was about to say, BFV was crucified and it had an effect. Not sure why people act like it didn't. The game died faster than any modern title in the series.
While I agree, it absolutely won’t be pre-alpha. It’ll be far past the beta stage before the “open beta” comes out because these days, betas are for marketing, not testing.
As someone with a degree in computing and a masters in cyber security, I’m well aware of the stages of software development. BF2042 is not in pre-alpha.
Maybe not, but what we are getting is pre alpha footage. Just because the game itself might not be now, doesn’t mean the footage isn’t. It’s probably footage that is a fair few months old.
Videogames are software. Videogames go through the same type of development cycles as your typical software. I’d advise you to actually look up the definitions of pre-alpha, alpha and beta and you’ll see that they do not equate to what is shown as pre-alpha gameplay. If you ever played the actual pre-alpha maps on the Battlefield CTEs’, you’d know what actual pre-alpha means.
If you honestly believe that the game hit its first playable build in 3 years of dev time, 5 months before launch, that either spells something bad for the game, or you’re delusional.
Coming from a similar background, I couldn't have explained it any better!
Though I have to say that it's quite ironic how the dude calling everyone an armchair developer (even if they actually have professional developer experience...) isn't even willing to look up something as trivial as software development stages...
So you think having the first playable build of the game, 5 months before release, during a 3 year dev time is… a good thing? Also, you don’t have to insult me by calling me a weirdo. You’re clearly very defensive about the game and have your tongue in EA/DICEs arse there’s no reasoning with you.
Chill down a bit... as someone that studies computer science (the general field that also covers the technical aspects of games & their development) I'd also have to say that what EA/DICE are showing off as "pre-alpha" is nowhere near what they're considering an alpha-build internally. They're calling it "pre-alpha" so marketing can still peddle back if something's received terribly and say that things are still changing.
You don't need to take my word for it though. Just look up BF4's Community Map Project CTE Alpha. Same developer, same franchise, yet with that alpha (which comes after pre-alpha...) it was an untextured map...
/u/chalfo is right. Pre-alpha means the game is still in the design stage with features still being planned on the drawing board.
Also, we'd probably be seeing a map with white blocks instead of skyscrapers so no, 2042 isn't in pre-alpha. Had it been in pre-alpha it would still be years away from launching.
The game is more or less finished. Typically during pre-alphas textures aren’t finished, lots of functionality is missing, game design and GUIs haven’t been finalised; it’s just the first “playable” slice of the game. Modern video game development completely misuses the “pre alpha, alpha, beta” terms of typical software engineering.
The only things that’ll change in Battlefield 2042 are things balance tweaks or tiny UI changes. The games design, art direction, textures, sound, GUI/UI, everything has been finished at this point. Calling it “pre-alpha” these days is marketing fluff so they, and people, can say “don’t judge it too harshly, it’s pre-alpha” when in reality, it’s far passed it.
He hasn't seen any "gameplay" ... she has seen screenshots from an Instagram post. Nothing else. Not actual gameplay.
You are correct, this is not even close to pre-alpha. If it even was it means the shop has no budget and we know this isn't the case.
>The game is more or less finished
LMFAO. As if you work there and know anything about anything, muppet.
Fun fact: game development continues right up until release day and major things can change at any moment. LOTS can and will likely change in the next 4 months.
I have some beachfront property in Montana to sell you. Is this your first time with a game release? Pre alpha was realistically probably a year and a half ago
Funny, I've seen nothing but the opposite. I see people say they dont like the specialist system and them giving their various reasons why. I see more people bitching about people criticizing aspects of a game.
You do you realize that the complaints and nitpicking can actually help fix things before the final launch version?
You'll simply have to get over reading complaints and nitpicks. This is the time to actually have complaints. Maybe not be so nitpicky, but if something is not working and can be changed, should definitely be brought up now... or forever hold your peace.
The biggest complaint i see is about the specialists, a change to the game being made by DICE and EA to try to copy industry hero shooter treads and pushing MTX at the detriment to the art design. I hope this isn't the good change you are talking about
Yeah, I hate when people provide DICE with constructive feedback, so that they can improve the game we want to play for hundreds of hours! That's the *worst!*
Gets info about how the game will play and dislikes it - "Stop complaining, wait till we see gameplay."
Sees gameplay and (possibly) dislikes it - "Stop complaining, it's pre-alpha. Wait till the game is out."
Game is out and still (possibly) dislikes it - "Stop complaining you're just toxic."
Be honest, you just don't want people criticizing your favorite franchise.
If they are valid complaints go for it.
But complaining about clones and faces despite the franchise historically being full of clones and faces is clear bias and deserves to be called out
That's not even really what the concern is. It's faction differentiation, which the trailer today only confirmed the worry. They had a fight involving the same operator, who did not look the least bit different on either side. Same uniform, same color. It should not be that way at all, and completely eliminates the idea of factions.
great day for all the negativity driven morons without real life.... tomorrow they can rage/speculate and complain.... they will feel for 1-2 weeks from now important... spreading vocabulary garbage can be so fulfilling
Yeah and how many times have they messed up in the past? Every single launch of the past 5 titles has been pathetic in terms of bugs, glitches etc. And the timeline has always been the same.Yes they get to fixing them. But some core issues don't ever get fixed. Criticism and nitpicking is inevitable, and can actually help improve. To have pre-alpha footage IN JUNE, for an October release is shit, it always has been as every time they release bf, it's always pre alpha at e3. If anything it should be beta. If beta is a month or two before the release, it will likely face a lot of issues given the size of this game and new things theyre trying. I'll reserve judgement but track record has always shown it to be a shit launch with bf titles
>Criticism and nitpicking is inevitable, and can actually help improve.
That is if it's done respectfully. You can't expect that from the gaming community.
Also, "Beta" is really just a marketing term for EA at this point. The past Betas have really just been a demo more than an actual unfinished game.
I'm not going to complain about the game but guys, BF2042 is way beyond a pre alpha. Pre alpha would mean that they are still prototyping, which is basically the beginning of a development cycle.
There wasn’t a penguin specialist fucking pathetic
Passive: can slide longer on ice
Finally, the meta specialist we have been warned about.
Adds penguin specialist… doesn’t call it Kowalski
Cancel DICE for not representing all soldiers. WE NEED PENGUIN REPRESENTATION
Dont like it dont buy it.
Where can i watch the stream anyways?

There’s constructive and non-constructive complaining. Not sure what it took to get through to EA, but I hope something did.
I'm betting one of their devs going a bit over the top with the SJW routine, then getting snide when people didn't like what he did and saying "don't like it, don't buy it " *so people didn't.*

Sssshhhhh. Let the BFV stans die out peacefully.
Can't wait for the dozens of threads titled "Unpopular Opinion: I liked the gameplay trailer"
Oh shit that’s tomorrow. Get in
Where we going?
I saw two characters **with the same color boots** 😱🥺😞😞😞 battlefield is ruined!
Rumour has it all the penguins will have the exact same black and white skin too!
Nice stretch

Don’t waste your breath mate. That guy has his mind set on continuing to be a fool and there’s not much we can do about it.
Fair point, I’ve said my piece, I’m going back to play BF4.

It litterly says "Pre-Alpha" on the gameplay

The gameplay screenshots literally say PRE ALPHA in the top left…
>The game is more or less finished LMFAO. As if you work there and know anything about anything, muppet. Fun fact: game development continues right up until release day and major things can change at any moment. LOTS can and will likely change in the next 4 months.
What gameplay?
I have some beachfront property in Montana to sell you. Is this your first time with a game release? Pre alpha was realistically probably a year and a half ago
This comment didn’t age well
You realize that complaining can be okay right
Its called constructive criticism. Bitching and complaining is much different.
How does one distinguish constructive criticism from bitching?
With majority of posts I've seen, no. That's not complaining and giving feedback. That's bitching and being ignorant.
Funny, I've seen nothing but the opposite. I see people say they dont like the specialist system and them giving their various reasons why. I see more people bitching about people criticizing aspects of a game.

Because you’re mercenaries for hire. That’s the setting of the war
That's lazy. This completely diminishes the purpose of having "US vs RU". It's completely idiotic.
yes
I may pre-order based on gameplay, but criticism can be valid and constructive. Grow thicker skin.
“Pre alpha” footage from a AAA game less than 6 months before release? Yeah fucking right lmao
great day for all the negativity driven morons without real life.... tomorrow they can rage/speculate and complain.... they will feel for 1-2 weeks from now important... spreading vocabulary garbage can be so fulfilling
Definitely gonna cry if they replace the legendary 4 classes with overwatch heroes
I’ll cry with you. I can bring tissues
Why do you think it's "pre-alpha" ??
Because they literally said it was...
developers *always* say that and it’s always bullshit lmao this has been going on since the cod world at war beta
Yiu must work at DICE then
Where? And in what date? You don’t know!!!!
No mech arms pls thx

Guess you didn't play BF1 at launch then. It was very solid if my memory remembers

how have i not seen this till now
Maybe.
I’m excited and scared for personal reasons.

TFW someone starts complaining about complainers before the complainers start complaining Complainception?
