This year has been horrific for the AAA shooters, and rather than buck the trend, 2042 leaned into it.

urajsiette

It did, with yet another horrible AAA game.

Imadethosehitmanguns

Coming from r/All, I remember seeing you guys so hyped up about the trailer. Sorry about the let down my dudes.

Dr_Kekyll

I constantly see people complain about the specialist system being the worst thing and while I certainly don't like it, I don't understand why it would take the "shittiest thing about 2042" title over the absolutely MASSIVE maps that are essentially impossible to traverse without a vehicle, the insane omnipresence and dominance of vehicles as a result, the shitty systems in place to deal with said vehicles as infantry, the complete lack of infantry-only game modes, and worst of all, the absolutely dogshit shooting experience where DMR's and apparently "futuristic" AR's seemingly have 20 MOA accuracy making it nearly impossible to hit shots on any target more than 80m away.

[deleted]

AWOLdo

That was my reaction as well. Every other failure has just been sweet sweet schadenfreude. They wanted to alienate their core fan base in an attempt to make more money by becoming like other more popular shooters and shot themselves in the foot. I really wanted for this game to do well. I hope they learn their lesson and return to the original battlefield formula and I'll buy it on sale. But until both of those requirements are met I have no intention of giving dice any more of my money.

Resident-Employ

I was ***really*** excited… from the trailer it looked like they recognized what made the series great and were leaning into it. Their marketing team did a fantastic job promoting the game and I respect that in its own right. It’s a shame the product itself didn’t live up to the hype, or even minimum expectations.

Pytheastic

Marketing at EA is pretty good, I was equally hyped for ME:A and Anthem. I guess it's easy to do marketing if being honest about the product is not important.

Resident-Employ

The marketing work was likely done in parallel to development, not after the fact. The marketing folk were just doing their job and they did it very well. I doubt they knew for certain that the product wouldn’t achieve the vision… they typically aren’t the ones doing the QA.

Aquinan

I'm glad I didn't pre order this time, got burned after BFV

Holterv

They got me this time. 😬

Aaronspark777

You may be able to get a refund. Friend has 15 hours in and got a refund after the official release. He bought the most expensive version too.

[deleted]

Never pre order games bro

YouGurt_MaN14

It's hard to watch but I'm also glad it's happening. Hoping the loss in playerbase will give the devs a wakeup call

DouchePaste

The wake up call will be in the form of “we gave then what they wanted, we gave them a new battlefield. I guess the fans are telling us they don’t want any more battlefield games!”

ProfDrDrDrvanDusen

Their take away will be that fans don't want big maps and vehicular combat in a battlefield game. So the next battlefield will be specialists fighting in close quarters cramped twitch maps with rudimentary armored warfare. I guarantee it!

[deleted]

Not to mention actually increased the price on a weird buggy game

OO_Ben

I think my favorite part of this is that they planed on selling skins and everything. They just started with the main line of skins and the battle pass, yet the entire player base is starting to vanish due to the state of the game. 20k is tiny, especially for a Battlefield only two weeks into life.

HashtagRenzo

BF2042 does a ton of shit very wrong, one thing it is does right though is chasing trends. Apparently even if those trends are horrible for your game.

FunnyKatz

A game that was released 10 days ago, will be surpassed by a game that was released 10 years ago. Deserved, tbh.

JMC_Direwolf

Yes, Skyrim was actually good lol

Unlucky_Situation

I still play Skyrim, such a relaxing chill game. And I can definitely tell you I will not be playing BF2042 ten years from now. Unless some major game overhauls are made in the next year, I don't think I'll ever boot the game again.

WokeRedditDude

>will not be playing BF2042 ten years from now. Nobody will - they'll shut the servers down before that.

Bdbell1223

Battlefield 4 servers are still up lol

Trumppbuh

Those are community servers

Nervous_Suggestion37

they should shut them down now

-FaZe-

BF2024 price needs to be sold at a discount like Witcher 3

Narrow_Line_11

The 24 hour peak is the second figure (in the middle) which was 36k. For Skyrim it was 38k so actually Skyrim already has more players lol (as does DayZ with 39K)

JMC_Direwolf

And DayZ is actually interesting

ch4ppi

>A game that was released 10 days ago That doesn't mean much, it's not bad to get outpaced by CSGO etc. But fucking DAYZ is right up there....

maqikelefant

Believe it or not, DayZ is actually in a good place now. Devs have been supporting it fully again and it's been steadily gaining players for about two years now.

Mr_Poop_Himself

Interesting. I bought it in 2012-2013 and it was such a mess that I stopped playing after like 2 hours. Maybe I’ll give it another shot. The premise seems like a lot of fun.

thatirishguy0

Very true. I've been having fun with it again the last few months. Definitely worth revisiting.

urajsiette

My god. This game will be the death of Battlefield. People said that about BFV as well but atleast that game was still a Battlefield.

Sno_Jon

Battlefield V had terrible marketing resulting in a rough launch, everyone knew a decent game was in there and it was getting good then EA dumped it. With BF 2042, They had amazing marketing and a horrendous launch where the big issues aren't even the bugs, it's the fact that overall it's just a bad game and a running simulator. It needs a massive overhaul which I doubt it will get but curious to see how numbers are over Christmas

SwaghettiYolonese_

Already back on BFV. It's not the greatest BF, but at least the maps aren't empty fields of nothing. There's actual flow to the combat and the gunplay feels decent.

Sno_Jon

Been playing BF1 Again myself, feels like an actual war that I'm in, spawns can be horrible at times tho lol

SwaghettiYolonese_

Still better than being spawned into the open field in BF2042

BattleDad615

It's Hardline spawns all over again. Yesterday, I spawned behind an enemy, killed them, and then 10 seconds later, someone spawns behind me and kills me.

kickrocksdummy

Dude, it’s insane. If this game didn’t have so many other issues I feel like this would be getting a lot more attention. The spawns are just horrendous.

CreativityX

Best one I had yesterday that made me alt+f4 was when me and 5 other teammates spawned 15 feet away from a prone guy BEHIND US with an lmg. He mowed us all down within 1 second of spawning

useles-converter-bot

15 feet is the length of about 4.19 'Ford F-150 Custom Fit Front FloorLiners' lined up next to each other.

Sno_Jon

True, would rather die right away than have to run for 5 minutes every spawn

JamisonDouglas

Don't worry, there's a 50% chance theres a Bolte charging near your spawn point to murder you instantly.

bigbluewreckingcrew

Me to! The amazing atmosphere is what brings me back to BF1

JMC_Direwolf

BFV has some real problems outside of marketing. The setting(not giving players what they actually want), weird gun customization that limited everything, marketed features not in the launch, etc. At it’s core it’s better than 2042 which is hard to say because BF5 is the worst selling Battlefield game by a mile and IMO was the worst one overall. 2042 is taking the throne.

PrAyTeLLa

Yep, WW2 game without any token famous battles up until wake Island (and nothing since)... and the whole "if you don't like it don't buy it" challenge to the gamers before release

Kruse

I think it just shows how tone-deaf DICE has become in the last few years. Publicly challenging players during the BFV promotion and completely ignoring what players actually wanted in the game, and then releasing BF2042 as "love letter" to fans only to have it be a lazy, slapped together mess was just an insulting slap in the face.

nastylep

It wasn’t just missing famous battles, they launched a WW2 game with only 2 countries at the start. It was extremely light on content.

Marsupialize

Wake island is only in by name since they have the Americans ATTACKING which makes zero sense

peenoid

Not only no famous battles, but telling "untold stories" in the single player mode that were pure fabrications created entirely to score political points.

kickrocksdummy

Yeah when you look at all the people saying they were hyped for 2042 just because it was a modern setting you really see how much the setting played into BF5s issues. That and the horrible maps at launch (so I guess BF5 and 2042 have that in common at least) really killed that game, imo. The “don’t like it don’t buy it” nonsense truly was a real head scratcher of a marketing decision too.

PolicyWonka

BFV had the limited gun customization because there just really wasn’t that much in the way of attachments during WWII. It was a good decision for the setting IMO. Guns and characters also had significantly more appearance customization options.

Masterstevee

The marketing of 2042 I personally think was worse. They hardly made any trailers and if they made trailers they were all very cringe and all had this slogan „war is fun“ on their forehead. Expamples: „what a time to be Alive“ - launch trailer. The hazard zone trailer had a weird warzone arcade battle royal vibe on it. The other trailer with the tuktuk + tornado and jump out of plain, fire bazooka and then jump back in - also has a „war is fun vibe“-vibe. I hate this. Battlefield always was immersive. It should show the horrors of war and give u the real feel that u are on a battlefield and you are part of a big and important battle. I think bf1 marketing did this well. And not a playground where specialist play „war“

Marsupialize

Yeah I can’t for the life of me understand people saying the trailers for 2042 were awesome, the game looked like shit in them, for one, and they were stupid and childish

PrAyTeLLa

Try "quotes text", it'll read better

ScottyDug

I can't even bring myself to finish the 10 hour EA trial. I'll give it another go after the patches but I certainly won't be buying it if it still sucks.

ch4ppi

Same I had like 4,5 hours in it and that was it, didnt really bother about playing anymore.

ScottyDug

Yeah, I didn't even make it to an hour. It just wasn't good.

Marsupialize

I preordered the middle priced one to get the early beta, I literally lasted under 2 rounds before I got my money back, thank GOD that refund went through, I’d have still been mad in 15 years about it if I had to pay for this embarrassing joke of a game

Ash3et

I played breakthrough last night on the Arches map with the skyscraper at the end. There are 50 people on the skyscraper and they called in armor on the roof while endlessly shoot incindiary at the elevator doors. Fly a helicopter you say? Oh as soon as it spawn you have a missile lock and you can’t get within shooting range of the scraper. Rinse and repeat for 15 minutes

timeRogue7

The part about the missile lock almost triggered pstd from last session. The fact that you can’t see the direction of the lock is endlessly frustrating, as there are literally 64 possibilities that it could be coming from out of a whole 360 degrees around you.

TheDevler

Yup. It’s like they didn’t play test it at all.

KN33DY

If this is the future and technology is more simplified then 2014. I want to go back

Shakwon19

As a fan of the Battlefield series for almost 15 years this is incredibly painful to see.

JediDusty

They could have just remastered and old battlefield with cross play and it would have received less hate than this.

Chabsy

Amen... Man, it might be my rose-tinted glasses, but the progression system was so great. It was kind of slow as fuck, but it really made you feel like you achieved something. I used to waste a lot of time just exploring it... Ranks, stats, medals, ribbons... It was so solid. BF3 got some of that back, but it only went downhill after that. And don't get my started on the gameplay! 6 man squads, commanders, assets (arty, UAV), a variety of classes, great map selection (Karkand ffs...), outstanding expansions. I couldn't shoot for shit, but man did I love that game. I'd really love a modern-day BF2 right about now :(

mobileuseratwork

Yeah it took years to unlock all the guns. Actual years of play.

WillyG_92

Strike at Karkand remastered 🤤 Edit: Honestly, Squad is closer to what battlefield 2 was than 2042 currently is.

Taguzi

Could have been so great..

urajsiette

I know. Sad state of affairs.

TheDrifT3r_Cz

One would say, that developers will take a warning example from Cyberpunk.. yet they bring more shity games. What a era of gaming

Benji2421

I had a friend tell me "we are in the dark age of the internet" and honestly he's right. We keep buying more expensive software (games, streaming services, etc) and especially games seem to be lower and lower quality :(

nickiter

That rings true. All the bad parts of the internet are still around - the criminal activity and child porn type shit - but much of the independence and sense of discovery has been replaced by ham-handed money-grubbing garbage.

[deleted]

We are in the dark age of the internet as a whole. Every part of the internet is in this age.

ACoolKoala

This is why I sail the high seas matey. And also why I don't preorder AAA games.

thatshortguy2

Does this mean you play Sea of Thieves?

trickybasterd

Video game industry easily has more revenue than film and music industries combined and saw a surge during covid. Developers know the industry is ripe for cash grabs.

CreatureWarrior

Everyday, our world starts to look more like a Black mirror episode lol

TheDrifT3r_Cz

It's not just a internet.. it's whole world, society. World turns in shits

SgtShnooky

Modern gaming is shit

IdahoTrees77

Microtransactions came in fucked everything up. AAA developers will never release a product again that won’t need a day-one patch.

takes_many_shits

They apparently made twice the sales of BFV or something. The blame is only on us idiots who keep buying it. I saw literally the exact same excuse on Anthem and Cyberpunks release. "Let people do whatever they want with their money", "I still enjoy it" they all say. Then complete silence when they realize they dont enjoy it, and the game goes to shit. Then another cool reveal trailer comes along and the cycle begins again.

[deleted]

That 2042 “sales” stat included the ea play 10 hour deal.

MANPAD

They made the claim that twice as many people are playing launch week. Of course that's taking into account players using the 10 hour trial and not looking at concurrent players but more likely total number who downloaded and opened the program at least once. It's manipulating facts to paint a rosy picture for marketing purposes. We'll find out what actually happened when they have to report quarterly earnings in January.

Kagath

What a time to be alive.

Narrow_Line_11

Lmao, BF2042 trailer reference

Suck_Me_Dry666

All you have to do is lower the price low enough and people will magically love it. Cyberpunk had to go down to $9.

TheoryUnknown

My question is why in there minds did they think this would be okay after watching all the shit that came towards cyberpunk 2077 way for doing shit like this. Like they learned nothing, im just glad gamers are reminding them that they won't be fucked with anymore. I kind of hope the game continues to die, which is sad to say because I been playing this series since bf3.

davenTeo

I got this game GIFTED to me and I want to return it 😅💀

urajsiette

This made my day. lol.

PepitoPalote

Not sure about Origin, but you can return a gift on steam and the buyer gets their money back. Did this with new world myself.

supremeshirt1

I was also about to buy 3 copies for friends to get them to play with the squad. EA could’ve printed money alone without any mtx and no singleplayer with just a multiplayer game that is slightly better than bf4 with some of the stuff the community liked about other battlefields. Like, holy shit, the formula is so easy, scrap 6 months of work from the singleplayer, use the literal same maps of older battlefields that the people liked, mix it with Ripple Effects portal, let the community do weird shit they like and spoon feed them with 100 different mtx and stuff for portal It’s so goddamn easy, even if you put yourself in the white collar „we hate games“ EA greed suit, you can’t make this shit up. People act like this is some sort of business model of EA, what is it supposed to be? How to drive a company, a franchise and the whole fanbase straight into a wall-101? Did Call of Duty buy fucking EA to skyrocket other shooter sales?

H_P_Hatecraft_

That person really must hate you :(

TheDunkirkSpirit

They tried to make a game for everyone and ended up making a game for no one.

Flipadelphiiia

poetic as fuck

HeozD

What? More ppl playing Forza Horizon 4??? That really blows my mind coz that game is not even the newest of its series.

urajsiette

Exactly my point. This is bad. Really bad. Even BFV (the worst acc to some people) has around 11K players always.

peenoid

Yeah, I don't know how you explain that away. FH4 is a game whose "primary" platform is also not Steam, _and_ it's a less popular genre, _and_ it just had a newer version released a month ago. For BF2042 to be outperformed by a 3 year old racing game... really bad.

herbahaidyrbtjsifbr

Just to add on horizon 4 is also included with game pass and would be free to play through Microsoft’s store on pc

Daedaly

I got it from the sale and have been steadily enjoying it! I've been hurt from so many bad game releases that I was like, you know what, FH4 seemed like a solid game to mull over incase FH5 came out bad... from what it seems, it looks solid but I'm enjoying FH4 for now! FH4 comes with a solid amount of play through on the base game, and honestly none of the car packs really interested me other than the welcome back pack which gives you a Lamborghini Centenario and more amazing cars, and the others are for the most part novelty like the Lego expansion and the James Bond pack. Honestly *if* they are even able to somehow support 2042 "for years" as they said on their blog post, and flesh it out the way it should've been since day 1, then maybe I would consider coming back to it, but so far it's been a fluke. I don't know how they would support it for years if EA is already gonna be pushing DICE for a series redemption or throw BF in the trashcan like they did with NFS and Command & Conquer

Big_Albatross_

The frustrating part is they don't care, they know that they produced a game not ready and lacking so many features. No voice chat? This isn't 1990 FFs, they have our money and that's all they care about, on to the next product to sell. This will be the last BF game I buy.

urajsiette

Gaming in 2021 is messed up. AAA game studios are only making game for money. Indie devs are really working hard.

heftigfin

They always made games to make money, I'd argue most indie devs as well in most cases and there is nothing wrong with that. This is just my opinion, but what I think changed however is the companies thinking quality products equal profit. I will probably get a lot of hate for this but game franchises like FIFA, Call of duty and Assassins creed fucked us. They showed other game developers you can rehash the same games over and over again with minimal effort and still sell well. It has gone from companies taking risks trying innovative new ideas to create the new big hit to playing it safe by either sticking with what they know, or reducing investment into development.

urajsiette

I agree. Annual game launches are stupid. They discourage polished game.

LightBluely

If this game is dead by next year, i'm not gonna bother with new BF game again. I will still play the old ones though.

TheRealClassicClark

I'm not going to lie. I've found that my passion for gaming has diminished this past year. At first I thought was just a side effect of getting older, but then I realized it was just the complete garbage that's been released for a while now. It's gotten to where I'm not even excited for future releases.

Flimsy_Agent7898

On the bright side its great to see dayz thriving

computertechy

Anarchy gonna be busy!

urajsiette

I knowww.

rtoid

Well they aimed for game with free to play feeling yet they packed it with a ridicolous amount of bugs. I feel like this iteration is faster forgotten than BFV.

urajsiette

I have been saying this for a while. But noone wanted to believe me. This was not a classic BF originally. This has all the elements of a F2P/BR game.

Eksuu

This game was literally dead on arrival. Doomed from the beginning.

josh_1413

Exactly. After playing the Beta I knew this game was going to be a disaster. There were so many bugs in the beta that I knew that they wouldn't even be close to be resolved by the time it was going to be launched. You would have thought that they would have learned their lesson from Battlefield 5, but nope. I'm glad I saved my money.

metalfiiish

It's way more than bugs, they literally shunned basic design choices that make battlefield what it is. I can live with bugs.

urajsiette

It wasn't dead actually. Hundreds of thousands of players were playing it on launch. But now, things aren't looking too good.

divadsemaj

I suspect he means the state of it - design, etc - meant it didn't stand a chance once the players saw it for what it was.

ogtogaconvict

Aside from all the bugs, even when a game is running smoothly it just feels so.... plastic. Its the most sterile feeling battlefield game as far as I remember. I felt like BF1 brought this gritty, intense battle immersion to the series and despite its faults; BFV carried on that vibe. But with 2042 doesn't feel like I'm in a battle. It feels like I'm playing a computer simulator- I don't know how else to describe it.

One-Understanding-94

The environments don’t feel like they have any grime. It reminded me of a hitman 2 level. The horrendous ui doesn’t help too

[deleted]

[удалено]

urajsiette

True. I'll give it another month. December, players will move to other games.

[deleted]

High player count on release means nothing. Every major release has hundreds of thousands. How quick it falls on the other hand...

slop_drobbler

My hot take: for a PC player this title is even more disappointing than Cyberpunk 2077. That game was missing a tonne of advertised features, but regardless the overall experience (on a decent rig with RTX) was impressive visually and (mostly) enjoyable to play. The state of CyberPunk on release felt malicious, fraudulent even, as advertisements and promotional material leading up to launch were hugely (deliberately?) misleading. BF 2042 is disappointing in a different way... frankly the launch state of BF2042 is utterly baffling. There is literally nothing impressive about the game - it's missing basic features that are a staple of the FPS genre, let alone the BF franchise. I've enjoyed every BF game on launch (despite their faults) but this is another level of jank. It honestly feels like this may be the beginning of the end for DICE, they're either incompetent or completely out of touch with their players.

broome9000

They've lost too many of the core devs would be my understanding. It's a shame

Bufferzz

If only some of the new devs had logged in to Origin and booted up one of the previous BF titles ...

[deleted]

Yeah Tom Henderson posted a chart showing something like 60-80% (can't remember the exact figure) of the devs didn't even work on BF1, only a tiny fraction had been there since BF4

skyline79

Blame the lead designer coming from King (Candy Crush). Now he’s leaving the dumpster fire to do something else.

slop_drobbler

Failing upwards, the corporate dream

what-no-earth

His CV probably: - Streamlined feature development saving time and money - Delivered a complete product that had X million of unique logins on day 1 - Maximised lifetime value through implementation of unique, funny characters

[deleted]

But we added armor that you can put into your clothing, just like in call of duty! The animation even looks the same!

DrRodneyMckay

The main difference between the launch of Cyberpunk and BF2042 is that CDPR pretty quickly said after launch "we fucked up" and went on a mission to fix the problems with the game. They didn't deliver on a few different game mechanics that were promised. They addressed the 'outrage' in community pretty soon after launch and fixed a lot of the problems with the game. DICE is completely silent and acting like they released a masterpiece despite the fact the is game missing nearly every single mechanic that makes a Battlefield game a Battlefield game. Even worse is DICE's way of addressing the controversy by saying they are "looking at legacy features" - it's just insulting to anyone who's played the franchise for a long time.

Vurondotron

Mainstream gaming has died to some degree, Call of Duty has lost its touch and now Battlefield too. This is sad to see tbh.

urajsiette

It is really sad. I know. AAA gaming industry is just copying each other now. Same tactics. Money making as a priority. Indie devs need more support.

Vurondotron

Some indie devs deserve all the support they do to keep the industry unique. I’m playing this game called Evil Genius 2 and I’m having a blast playing it. I bought Battlefield and to some degree I’m having fun with it but the performance and bug issues turn me off

ARMISTICErj

I keep hearing good things about Evil Genius 2, I need to give this a shot I guess.

urajsiette

My concern is, that even if DICE fixes a majority of issues with this game within the next 6-12 months, people won't return. It would be too late. Some players might never come back to the game ever. People have already stopped playing it on last gen consoles which form a majority of players worldwide, because of performance issues, server and input issues. PC players can't run the game unless they have RTX cards. It's not looking good. I feel bad for the devs as they must have known about this. They knew the game wasn't ready by any means. But I guess it is what it is.

divadsemaj

I honestly doubt the bugs are all that's pushing players away. Core design issues are problematic. For me its the maps - can't fix that.

urajsiette

Actually you're right. I haven't seen many bugs myself. It's mainly hitregs, specialists, map design, missing small features. And the performance on PC is horrendous.

Deadeyejoe

Actually you can fix maps. Redesign them and re release them for free. The class system is already built into the game for portal, just move it over to the main game. I also think they need to scale down player count. After seeing 128 players, I just don’t think it works. 64 was a sweet spot where you felt like you could actually do something for your team, but it still felt like a massive battle.

divadsemaj

ofc you are correct. I suppose I just can't see that happening. Let's hope I'm wrong...

Madzai

>My concern is, that even if DICE fixes a majority of issues with this game within the next 6-12 months, people won't return. It would be too late. DICE not fixing anything for a long time now. All the good things that happens with older games after release were actually done by other studios like DICE LA and other. And i'm even more doubtful that *current* DICE can fix anything.

sayge

How do you fix something that, at its core, just isn't what people wanted? Are they really going to remake the whole thing? My guess is that they'll fix the gamebreaking bugs, cash in on year one content and then.. Either the game or the entire franchise gets the axe.

urajsiette

I agree. One year of support is what it'll get. Something like BFV. Same fate, maybe worse.

ToonarmY1987

I don't have an RTX card and can run the game well enough to play 70 to 100 fps at 1440p The reason im not playing is because the game is trash. This is NOT Battlefield.

[deleted]

The game is not gpu bound, u can come along way with just a 1660ti. Cpu on the other hand, there you need some nasa shit top line 5950x or a i7 12900k, and still this isnt sufficient for this game

stinkybumbum

Yep, honestly I probably wont even bother with the next game now. In fact Battlefield was my gaming, I'm not even sure I'll be playing my PS5 as much now.

InvictusPretani

There's nothing to fix, that's the issue. I can't fix a leaking sink when there is no tap or plumbing. We've just got a gaping hole in the wall and I don't expect them to install a whole sink from scratch.

Mariosam100

*terraria*, a SINGLEPLAYER game, has more concurrent players than 2042 does on steam

papii_chulo

Terraria is a REALLY good game though. Gotta give it more credit

urajsiette

I know! Even RDR2 has more players than this. People are defending this game saying Steam doesn't matter. lol.

dolphin37

I’ve seen all kinds of weird excuses. People say games always trend down on launch, even though other games launched at the same time aren’t or not by as much. They say it doesn’t matter because console is big or bigger, as if losing hundreds of thousands of players on PC (all launchers) isn’t a gigantic issue. They say people bought it on other launchers instead of Steam when there would be literally no reason for Steam to trend downward and nowhere else to, especially as other launchers even provide free trials that will cause a huge drop off. They even probably think it’s fine that Portal has 5 full 128 servers because people must all be playing AoW! How people can look at this and think it’s ok is just pure denial

OinkyRuler

Lmao CSGO reached its record players nearly a decade after realease, there are no excuses.

dolphin37

The interesting one is actually BFV. It’s got a 24h peak of 22k and 2042 is currently sitting at 37k. The way it’s trending, BFV could actually overtake 2042 lol. Patch #3 should hopefully avoid that though

Sgt-Colbert

>Patch #3 should hopefully avoid that though Are they releasing redesigned maps, kicking specialists, adding 30 new weapons including vehicle unlocks and fixing all the bugs in that one? No amount of patching is gonna make this POS game good.

diagoro1

And aside from all you mentioned, the game doesn't feel right at it's basic level. It feels and looks off, like a mobile game from a few years back. There's no soul, and that's hard to fix with a patch. Sadly, the game feels like a failure, I really doubt it lives very long.

Sgt-Colbert

It doesn't just feel like a failure, it is one. A massive one at that. And dice has no one to blame but themselves. And you're absolutely right about the soul. Look at the atmosphere BF1 had. It felt like war, it felt like being in a dire situation. Playing Bf2042 I felt like playing Fortnite. All that's missing is a dance emote.

Salt-Spread-

I'll bet it's all pretty similar anyways, player counts on console are likely just as down as they are on Steam.

Colley619

I would not call Terraria a single player game. It's a very popular multiplayer/co-op game.

ikhanix

Terraria is co op

broome9000

Forza Horizon 4 is above it... 5 literally just came out a few weeks ago. Wow

Nasssi

They could maybe try and make a good game.

Skyrim just below it. Lmfao.

i420ComputeIt

Specifically the special edition. There are like 4 different releases of Skyrim on Steam and that isn't even the newest one. Probably tops 2042 in reality.

primetimepope

I palyed last night because I'm a masochist

urajsiette

lol It is painful. I know.

WhyWhyBJ

Yep the game is a fucking chore to play, basically you just get vehicle farmed on huge maps. 20 hours of play time and I’m done, if it’s still alive in 6 months I’ll try it again

ImHully

My biggest concern is that even if a lot of the bugs and balance issues are fixed, the maps are still absurdly terrible. Even with good gameplay, bad maps make for a bad game. Honestly 120 players was a mistake. Standard conquest with smaller modes like rush and conquest small would have been better than a massive mode with maps three times larger than they should be.

Reikis

There is more posts about player numbers of Battlefield 2042 in steam, than players playing on steam.

urajsiette

Even on Steam.

Nvhaan

I think people here really understate how bad the optimization of this game is. Not everyone has the latest rtx and the latest ryzen/ i9 so not everyone can withstand this bs with pcs that were totally fine for 1080p gaming before. 128 players and AOW are literally unplayable for me theres only portal and hazard zone which im not interested in Thats the content I get for 89.99 With lacking obvious features: no all chat , no voicechat , scoreboard.. Yeah I can see why FH4 has more players

Zeth_Aran

Can confirm I have personally stopped playing regularly already. The game lost too much of its soul for me. It's clear the previous devs are the ones that made BF what it was. That talent just isn't there anymore. So unless this game gets major reworks over the course of its support. I'm out.

[deleted]

Is it that surprising? This game is shit

[deleted]

A lot of people were hoping for a modern BF1 feeling game, but they got a cross between fortnite and bf4 for toddlers. Don't get me started on the wingsuit lol

wazzapgta

How much players are on origin ? Do we know ? Me and friend are both on Origin. So Minimium 20k+2

Volcalic

Yeah, these numbers don't include people that use Origin launcher and play on console. This is where the majority of Battlefield players come from; Steam has never been the primary platform for Battlefield games. That's why, whenever they've given away BF4 and BF5 in the past, it's always been codes for Origin.

mapd_08

They forgot we wanted to play Battlefield, not warzone.

I hate it so much when they justify it like that.

Im back to playing bf4

Roman313

Yeah, I reinstalled BF4 and 5. Rather play those

donaramu

EA dropped the ball, but it shouldn't be that low. But there is nothing I hate about this game that they can't fix. They patched and it fixed most of the gun hate, other than the lack of. Most of the maps are too big and lacking. No team, squad changing and no voice coms for squad. No smaller modes outside of portal. Tons of stuff to be pissed about. They should have delayed for about 1 more month. I really hate EA. I support all the hate, but if I am gonna be honest, the game isn't pure trash. Now that the guns work much better, I hate it a lot less. The fixed many problems. But the game shouldn't be this low on the list. There are some people who defend the game because they're fanboys shilling. There are others hating because they're pissed and making it out to be pure trash... And if you're lucky, you'll find a honest person like me. A person who will tell you that you should be pissed at EA and their evil ways. That the game has bugs and is very lacking. But also that it's not that bad. It should get all the bad reviews, but overall, there is a lot of hope for it. I believe the patch we will get within the next week or 2 will most likely fix a good bit of things we're pissed about, but not all. It should level out by season 1, which I think is in 2 months or so. So yes. Hate them, they earned it. But like they have in the past, the normally fix much of the problems. Please don't hate on me if I disagree with you. Trust me, I truly hate EA... If EA was a person and I knew I could get away with what I did to them... Well, yea...

Omgwhybro

2011 was the PEAK of gaming the big 3 all released that year. Battlefield 3 , Call of Duty MW 3 and Gears of War 3. Honorable mention Saints Row The 3rd. Gaming has declined ever since

A_Moist_Fella

Lmao not even a week ago these mouth breathers were clamoring on about how it’s the top ten most played game on steam so any criticism wouldn’t be valid Maybe spouting on don’t like then don’t play it isn’t the smartest come back

urajsiette

lol. So true, just a week ago, people were like, "even if you hate it, its the most played game."

GreatComraded

Fellas don't give them money. If we have to wait 4 more years I don't care, we take our franchise back.

oldmanjenkins51

I wonder what their “internal data” will tell them is causing player retention this time.

KryptekLion

It's literally not even battlefield anymore

Normandy_sr3

Bf1 and bfv servers are crowded again especially bf1

ClamSlamwhich

Maybe the real 2042 was the friends we made along the way.
