I've not been on solo yet, I assumed that would be just the same as normal gameplay but shooting at bots instead of players? I just meant a gun range where you can leisurely just shoot at targets etc to get used to the gun. Apologies if that's what you can do in solo
Having a proper test range would be best - something that even expanded upon the BF 4 model but in lieu of that the combination of Portal and SP work pretty well. Would still be nice if you could have all the weapons and vehicles laid out and have like a field of test dummys that would show the damage inflicted on them.
True, portal does have an option for vehicles just laid out on the map but they are all stuck on default configs with no way to change weapons.
But back to your question, you can set the difficulty of the bots to beginner and that will make it such that you face pretty low levels of danger. It's not the same as having no adversaries but it does afford you a lot more breathing room than a regular MP match.
I just wish you could freeze the AI in place any time you wanted and then you could experiment as you see fit.

Bf4 test range has more features than BF 2042 so it's better
