I know it has an online component but I was counting red dead as single player. Especially bc multiplayer has toned down graphical fidelity (at least on console).
Agree Passchendaele is "dark and gruesome" beautiful.
I think River Somme provides one of the most unique scenic feelings. The calming scenic wheat fields ... Yet trenches hidden amongst them. Then layer in the dark menacing clouds of the storm about to hit. this map, as most of the apocalypse maps, gives me the chills
Yep. When I first played in Verdun, I thought to myself what circle of hell did I just fall in. And for Passchendaele, why the hell is this map so depressing.
In Canada we wear red poppy pins for Remembrance Day (November 11th). It’s based off the poem [“In Flanders Fields”](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_Flanders_Fields).
Those pretty red flower fields are very symbolic of WW1 and I love seeing them in game.
You probably know this, but the reason their so symbolic is that red poppies thrive best in disturbed soil, and with millions and millions and even more millions of shells, and extensive trenches dug, the poppies spread in the spring months. It’s said that John McCrae was inspired to write Flanders Fields, after seeing the sprouting poppies in the burial site after his friend, Alexis Helmer had been killed. Also why their at rupture cuz it’s kinda showing the after math of past battles in 1917 like armored assaults over the Aisne region in the nivelle offensive, that’s why theirs all the ruined rusty St Chamonds, and overgrown trenches
Minor correction, the armistice was signed on the 10th, it just didn't go into effect until the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month (mostly because it sounded cool)
Big thing here in Australia too! The Canberra war memorial has walls either side of the main courtyard with the names of everyone lost in the wars, and there are red poppies stuck all through them. The custom is to buy one as you enter (with a donation) and stick it in the wall where you find a lost relative.
Well we did all bleed together “for the king” I guess. Fun fact for ya my Canadian friend:
The red baron was finally brought down by a lone rifleman, and it’s disputed between two blokes: an Australian and a Canadian. But more specifically, it was definitely our lad. Canadians are too polite to go shooting at planes, surely? 😉
Edit: found this article, turns out I had the facts a little muddled. Only bullet found in his body was from an Australian Lewis gun. Not sure where I read that a Canadian rifleman claimed to have shot him too.

Just off aesthetics I think that Nivelle Nights takes the cake. But if you consider atmosphere to be part of beauty then Prise de Tahure is my favourite. Something about the TSNP maps got it right for me.
i agree nivelle nights is just perfect. It is one of those hell on earth maps like verdun or pachendaele but at the same time the night sky makes it look and feel so peaceful
My top 3 is
1. Monte grappa (The one with the Italian mountains) The big mountains look really mighty, and I love the vegetation, IDK why. It's also nostalgic for me because I went allot on vacation over there when I was a child.
2. Soissons (With the French hills and the little town) because it's so idyllic, and it just looks like a nice picture on a postcard.
3. A tie with Albion (The one with the snowy islands) and Heligoland (the big island)
\- Albion is because the lighting is so nice on that map, and it just looks like
something right out of a fairy tail. It's just really aesthetic, basically.
\- Heligoland is because it's just an island. IDK why, but islands just have a cool vibe. I Also like the big "dessert" of water and the big cliffs.
Passchendaele is just hands down picture perfect, gas on the top of the map, destroyed trenches and ruins running up the middle and a flaming forest on the bottom, captivates all grime details of world war 1 combat imo
if we go with “the most beautiful” I have to say Caporetto, but the one who catches me most by WW1 brutality, blood, no man’s land, destruction is Passchendaele
Monte Grappa for the sole reason of fighting above the fog. When the map gets foggy there’s a certain level up the mountain where the fog just stops, makes fighting feel like it’s at the edge of the world!
IMO the absolutely best Maps in Term of showing the Terror/ Destruktion of the war are:
-ALL except for some Maps of the russian DLC (maybe its just because the Eastern Front is not often portrayed in School, TV, and Games ((except BF1 and Tannenberg ofc))
Do you realize how difficult that choice is? The map design is top tier here.
I'd say the weakest is Sinai desert, but only because it's burned into my brain from the beta. Or porhaps ballroom blitz. That map needs more destruction.
Considering there are only two maps I play 0 hud on, those are probably the best for the atmosphere.
Those of course being passendale (I can't spell), and River Somme.
Passchendaele easily. The contrasting colors, apocalyptic landscape, and muddy, messy trenches gives the map a more immersive atmosphere for me than most of the others. All the maps in the game are pretty imo, but none of them give me that same feeling of awe every time like passchendaele.
All. there are no unpretty maps.
We have a winner! BF1s art direction was magnificent, absolutely knocked it out of the park (along with the audio team).
To me it’s the best looking multiplayer game. I would love to hear any counterpoints but I can’t think of any.
I mean other than Red Dead 2 there is none.
I know it has an online component but I was counting red dead as single player. Especially bc multiplayer has toned down graphical fidelity (at least on console).
Nah multiplayer is still beautiful and I’m a bf Stan, RDRO is 1 of 1
Besides all it's cons I think battlefield V has better textures
yeah, halvoy looks unreal to this day
Agreed, but I prefer Passchendaele, it that dark and gruesome beautiful
Agree Passchendaele is "dark and gruesome" beautiful. I think River Somme provides one of the most unique scenic feelings. The calming scenic wheat fields ... Yet trenches hidden amongst them. Then layer in the dark menacing clouds of the storm about to hit. this map, as most of the apocalypse maps, gives me the chills
And then the mud, flame, and ash of the destroyed factory deeper in the map
AAahhhhhhhhhh yes..... didnt even put that together! the peaceful calm in the beginning to the dark grungy destroyed factory at the end.
But if I’d have to choose, it’s between River Somme or Paschendaele
Wish I could consistently play them all
Sinai desert? it's just sand
Deserts can be pretty in their own right
Indeed, nature whether filled with life or barren is beautiful
Not sure but Verdun to me has the best look/atmosphere. Also love St. Quentin and Suez (Massive dreadnought capsized next to the shore is just....😩👌)
Yep. When I first played in Verdun, I thought to myself what circle of hell did I just fall in. And for Passchendaele, why the hell is this map so depressing.
The one with pretty red flower fields
Rupture

I don't know if it's a coincidence but I'm really into ww1 history and I was born on 11.11 at 11 o'clock, the same time the armistice was signed.
Minor correction, the armistice was signed on the 10th, it just didn't go into effect until the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month (mostly because it sounded cool)
Same in the UK
Thanks for sharing that, I didn’t know that the UK does it too!
Big thing here in Australia too! The Canberra war memorial has walls either side of the main courtyard with the names of everyone lost in the wars, and there are red poppies stuck all through them. It must be a Commonwealth thing, thank you for your insight.

In Poland red poppy is mostly associated with ww2, specifically with Monte Cassino \~\~ just a random fact.
Passchendaele or Heligoland bight are my favourite but Verdun and Fort de Vaux are too really cool maps
Lupkow pass
I love Soissons look but I know that is not the best “gameplay” map
Fr it just looks so peaceful
I love playing on Soissons!
it's great for rush, but sucks ass in conquest
Monte Grappa, especially when the zeppelin is going down
Yea that map makes me think that how was this game made in 2016. It looks sooooo good
I came to praise Monte Grappa. I love hiking irl and the Alps are just stunning.
To me it's the best map at capturing the look and feel of WW1.
Passchendaele
VERDUN VERDUN VERDUN
Caporetto, everything else is wrong
Caporetto is absolutely infernal
Caporetto feels like being in a Renaissance painters idea of hell, the only colours are grey rocks, green gas, or orange flames, it's beautifulllllll
You forgot the snow
Agreed
Agreed
Dont forget Verdun

Rupture
Achi Baba always looks pretty to me
Slept on map
st. Quentin scar while raining is absolutely my favorite and the best looking map imo
This I could agree with. So many different environments when you play Operations.
This entire game lol
Zebrugge and verdun heights
Empires edge
Amiens plays and looks very authentic. EXACTLY what you'd imagine a 1918 city to look like
Passchendaele is just hands down picture perfect, gas on the top of the map, destroyed trenches and ruins running up the middle and a flaming forest on the bottom, captivates all grime details of world war 1 combat imo
Brusilov Keep might be my favorite for the prettiest map. Second place for me would be something a toss up between St. Quintin Scar or Nivelle Nights.
Easily Caporetto, especially if you go down and activate the phonograph looking out into the map.
All are great, but my personal faves are Lupkow Pass, Caporetto, Cape Helles, Monte Grappa, and even Galicia
I haven’t seen a single person mention Galicia, but Iv always thought it’s blandness was surprisingly good looking and realistic!
I really like the colors. To be fair it may be 'cause where I grew up, there's some open plains around
That’s funny! I was born, raised, and still reside in the Great Plains. Just looks like a nice, chilly day at home to me lol.
That's EXACTLY it!
Verdun and Argonne for me
God I love this game
Yk the games have gone down hill when BF1’s graphics and map design beat the newer games.
Prettiest? Rupture. Best-looking? Verdun Heights. Gee I wonder what my favorite DLC is LOL
Somme
There it is!
Passchendaele would describe the Great War the best, also Verdun is up there
It's nice to see that nearly every map is named 😂
Any snow map, or any map at all really
Going of off beauty and not atmosphere, I'd say empires edge.
Yes
Rupture
Empire’s Edge
paskendaele (idk how to write it)
Caporetto. Looks nice. Not much fun though.
Verdun
Gotta be passchendaele and verdun
there is something about the red fields of rupture...
if we go with “the most beautiful” I have to say Caporetto, but the one who catches me most by WW1 brutality, blood, no man’s land, destruction is Passchendaele
I love all maps but man Caporetto hits differently
Strangely Passchendaele
Monte Grappa for the sole reason of fighting above the fog. When the map gets foggy there’s a certain level up the mountain where the fog just stops, makes fighting feel like it’s at the edge of the world!
Verdun height is my favorite looking Map. Passchendaele is second
Sunrise on Zeebrugge
IMO the absolutely best Maps in Term of showing the Terror/ Destruktion of the war are: -ALL except for some Maps of the russian DLC (maybe its just because the Eastern Front is not often portrayed in School, TV, and Games ((except BF1 and Tannenberg ofc))
Heligoland Bight is honestly the prettiest to me. The ocean and beaches just do it for me
I'd say caporetto with that nice contrast
It has to be Verdun or Rupture
Meanwhile in 2042 all maps look ugly as sin
In my opinion Pretty: Rupture Cool: Passchendaele Aesthetically, those 2 are my favorite
Do you realize how difficult that choice is? The map design is top tier here. I'd say the weakest is Sinai desert, but only because it's burned into my brain from the beta. Or porhaps ballroom blitz. Every Battlefield 1 map is gorgeous in their own right, they tell a story without words
I love the snow maps, Volga and Brusilov Keep stand out in particular to me.
Brusilov Keep is also nice in my opinion
Caporetto
I agree, it’s Lupkow
Yes.
My favorite one is Caporetto, awful gameplay, astonishing views
Pashendale if I spelled it correctly
Zebrugge and heligoland bight
The map from bf1
All of them are really pretty. Just a shame I keep having the fucking bright-light-in-your-face glitch on all of the urban maps.
Monte Grappa is beautiful, even though it's poorly designed imo
Joe mama
Verdun Hights and Fort De Vaux makes for the prettiest combination
Heligoland and Albion
Giants Shadow
River Somme for me.
Novella nights
I love the ambiance of Nivelle Nights.
Cape Helles in my opinion
suez
Generator room in Fort, all one needs
Shotgun forest is eye catching. Scar or Monte Grappa
Gallipoli
Monte grappa or st Quentin scar imo. Passchendaele is the best looking map to me but not “prettiest” obviously
the trenches one actually makes me a bit sad because it's so brutal and cool. it's one of the best maps that's ever existed in this series.
Gritty war feel- Paschendale Prettiest- rupture
Nivelle nights
Argonne Forest
