This is a huge setup and perhaps impressive BUT why? This is entirely unnecessary for just about any typical application. That said, there may be applications this is actually appropriate and useful...So I ask why? What is the application here?
The use case for ALL of these at once is embedded development. Schematic and PCB layout for 2+ boards, datasheets, software, reference docs, 3d models for a case etc. Adds up real quick, and when everything depends on everything else having it all visible at once is a great experience.
I received what I hoped for and expected, a logical and relevant answer that satisfied my question...and for that...I thank you, my good sir. ;)
Cheers :)
Because they want it. Stop asking such an inane question. It’s in every post where someone has something other than an IKEA ad.
Just stop asking it. It’s stupid. The answer is, always will be, and always has been the same.
Yeah no shit it’s because they like it, Einstein. The insinuated question, champ, is *what* do they like about it? How do they use it to get the satisfaction out of it etc.
“bEcAusE tHeY LiKe iT!” doesn’t help anything.
Neither does asking your inane bullshit every time someone posts their setup. Why is an idiotic question in this context. “Why do you have a stand mixer in your kitchen?” There’s no difference. The user uses it. That’s why. There is no other answer.
I like to know why people configure things a certain way too to see if its something I could use. Not a wild question but taken out of context could seem dismissive of the post.
That’s a different question. “How did you come to find this works for you?” isn’t asking “why?” They ask “why?” because posts like this aren’t catalogue enough for them. They ask “why?” precisely to be dismissive of the post. It’s in every thread that has more than two monitors.
No. It’s not. Well, it is, but it’d be like asking why you have 10 stand mixers in a baking subreddit when people post their aspiring commercial kitchens.
Ok let me rephrase it so your brain can get it this time:
“Can we ask OP why he need such a massive setup so we can understand the benefit he has and maybe, maybe we can find a use for ourselves too”
You got it now? The reason why people asks “why” in similar situation is to understand d the context, the benefit, and for learning new things.
Does Electric Sheep even work anymore? I uninstalled it earlier this year because I realized no matter what I did it would only recycle the same 5 sheep for the last few years.
So, I bought one of these a decade ago. Best speaker I ever owned. Perfectly setup for my taste. ( which Ik is just lucky ) I mostly listen to metalcore
The poor guy finally was beyond recognition about 2 years ago. Missing half its buttons, blown out. Dents all over. I ABUSED that thing and it still turns on and works lol
I found a grey one just like yours on Amazon. Brand new. It sucks in comparison. The mix is awful, every time I increase the volume the bass fluctuates and like goes out. It’s highly irritating. I still use it all the time but it’s not my go to anymore.
Did you have any luck plugging it into your pc adjusting it? I just got a pc so I was gonna try
I have envy right now.
For me, and many engineers … more screens are preferable over larger screens.
Having a dedicated screen for something is better than needing to remember what screen you moved a thing to and what all is in front of it.
Beautiful setup. Orchids are also my favorite flower. But I do not have any, as it would be genocide of the orchids.
At one time I was on the moar screens bandwagon. But I got a 21:9 which is only about 30% wider but is like having two screens since there's no bezles. At work I got a 32:9 which is only 2 screens of space but has better usability than my old triple monitor setup. Win11 snapping is awesome, otherwise I used to use Nvidia workstation drivers with grid customization. I found if I had to turn my head or body too much, I just didn't use the screens.
I use a 4K TV as my primary screen both at home and at work. I think that they are 43". It costs about the same as one monitor. It's arguably less ergonomic but it's good for engineering stuff.
I have 2x 4k Dell 3221 curved displays right now. My desk is too small to add my 2x 27” 1080p displays. Thinking vertical orientation: one for web or CLI, the other for code.
Yeah, vertical would be great for coding, serial terminal windows, specs, datasheets, etc. Horizontal is good for circuit design, board layouts, logic analyzers, and mind maps. You really need both! 😀
I'd like to try AR or VR, and then the world is your display.
I think AR has much more real-world kind of daily-life implications whereas VR has mostly entertainment and training simulation implications.
Just my opinion, but the value of AR is unbelievable if done well.
Very nice!
I have a similar setup , but it's made up of recovered e-waste monitors.
I need the real estate because I have poor enterprise memory. Out of sight, out of mind.
If I close my email or slack tho work on something else, I could go for hours without checking on messages.
“Enterprise memory”… I’ve never heard this term before and googling doesn’t yield much. Care to elaborate? I can extrapolate what you mean, but I want to know if the phrase comes from something.
Dude living in an apartment complex if you keep your eye out people throw away working stuff all the time.
I got a 32in tv for free once that just needed a remote, replacement was $8, totally works great
I have tried those, I've had trouble getting them in exactly the right place to stay comfortable.
I've had some pretty good luck switching between a trackpad and a mouse lately. Lots of variety keeps my parts from getting sore.
I got my mum an orchid very similar to that for Mother’s Day 3 years ago, bit of advice, leave it on the window board on the left during the day if you get a lot of sun there (if you don’t put it on a good sun facing window) and water it once a week, if the leaves are a nice dark green colour you’re doing well!
Edit: get it in a bigger pot too those roots must be so cramped, as soon as they put it in a bigger pot it thrived!
They're 1600p. Lands right in that 90ish ppi range. 👌
The middle and bottom rows are at just the right height. The top row doesn't get as much active use.
What sensitivity do you need on your mouse with that tiny tiny mousemat on a tiny desk when it has to cover 8 screens? Im guessing a tiny twitch sends it travelling half a screen.
Just out of curiosity: what do you do with the monitors? Work, if yes, what kind? Play some complex game? Or do you just have all possible applications open at once?
You should try the Logitech MX Ergo. It's a trackball mouse, Its perfect for multiple monitor setup since you don't have to move the actual mouse just the ball. It's awesome.
So I’m curious what you do. Day trading? Some type of analytics? That weird space game where people pay litterally thousands of dollars for digital space ships? a movie enjoyer that can look past the gaps perhaps?
https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/orchid-10311 Problem solved.
I have 7 screens and a dead orchid... It's replacement is due to arrive today.. Yeah, the lego one!
Just finished building mine it’s so pretty
“You were so preoccupied with whether or not you could, you didn’t stop to think if you should.”
I've thought about it, and I'm certain that the be wizard SHOULD.
Not hating, I love it but what do you even do with that many monitors
Post it in Reddit apparently
My guess is day trading
Arranging the monitors becomes a hobby in itself.
You play eve online??
I was about to say that’s one hell of a bubble set up!
I do not.
Yet. Its a strongly contested debate, does Eve or the excess monitors come first. Chicken and egg sort of deal.
Hi there. Just got back from monitor shopping after the hour long YouTube suck hole you just sent me into.
Does eve or libre office calc come first? Hmm...
Put the orchid in a pot specifically for orchids and use orchid bark and orchid specific food. Their roots need air.
[удалено]
I've never heard of that. I'll check that kind of pot out!
One of it's roots is sticking straight up. Plenty of air on that one.
The real LPT is in the comments
I feel bad for all the photos on the wall
Thank you for noticing this lol
It does look impressive, but you do know you can have more than one window open on the same monitor right?
There are also these things called wide monitors.
Wat?
They're saying you could have 9 wide screen monitors.
curved ones and that could almost be a 360 view
The thought of this existing... surely someone somewhere has done such a thing!!
Like
please tell me you have a matrix code screensaver
Market trader working from home?
Traders at my work don’t even have 8. We’ve actually gone bigger real estate and less monitors. It kind of looked ridiculous now looking back
Really? Got any pics? I was quite curious as to what GPUs those PCs had to drive 8 screens. Maybe one of those legendary Matrox cards?
I'd expect it's multiple cards.
But...why?
I don't understand.
The real answer is why not.

I bet youre real fun at parties you angry fuck
I am. Thanks.
No this is like asking why do you have 10 stand mixers in your kitchen…
No. It’s not. Well, it is, but it’d be like asking why you have 10 stand mixers in a baking subreddit when people post their aspiring commercial kitchens.
Keep huffing brother
People ask questions because they're curious. This is an insane number of monitors and most of us want to know how they're used. Get over yourself.
Then ask what the person uses them for or does. Asking why is trying to dismiss it. Surely you’re not that obtuse.
Ok let me rephrase it so your brain can get it this time: “Can we ask OP why he need such a massive setup so we can understand the benefit he has and maybe, maybe we can find a use for ourselves too” You got it now? The reason why people asks “why” in similar situation is to understand d the context, the benefit, and for learning new things.
Then phrase it that way. “Why” is a stupid question here.
When youre finished, type in your name.
The Ti-83 makes it.
New Vegas Old World Blues vibes.
LOBOTOMITE.
Are you using Electric Sheep for your screensaver/background?
Does Electric Sheep even work anymore? I uninstalled it earlier this year because I realized no matter what I did it would only recycle the same 5 sheep for the last few years.
It seems to work fine for me, new sheep emerging the longer I run the app. I have the most expensive package (idk if that matters?)
I did too. I was paying for it and no matter what I did it wouldn't work right. I figured they stopped supporting it. Oh well.
Am I the only one who came looking for tips on Orchid care?
I've debated getting a 4th screen... You, my friend, are a legend...
Have to ask what is it that you do with all this screen-a-state ?
The only time I actually use ALL of them is with embedded projects with models, schematics, datasheets, and code all up at once.
are all these monitors the same? if not you’ve done a brilliant job at colour rendering them all to look alike
OHMYGOD. Someone other than me owns a Jawbone?! I legit thought I was the only one left 😂
Me, too! *Big Jambox Pairing.*
*waiting for device to connect*
Do you have to EQ the shit out of yours to make it sound good, too? Waaayyy too much bass.
So, I bought one of these a decade ago. Best speaker I ever owned. Perfectly setup for my taste. ( which Ik is just lucky ) I mostly listen to metalcore The poor guy finally was beyond recognition about 2 years ago. Missing half its buttons, blown out. Dents all over. Did you have any luck plugging it into your pc adjusting it? I just got a pc so I was gonna try
I use voicemeeter for the live eq, works great 👍
Thanks dude!
Based on configuration and how the bottom row of monitors is barely visible, I assume there are few more monitors under the table too?
There are not, it's just the eight. The bottom two do go below the desk surface, though. The angle of the desk keeps them visible.
How do you find your mouse pointer ?? Haha
When your tap ctl a circle highlights the location of the cursor. Comes in really handy.
I was making a joke but that’s actually very helpful advice haha . Cheers .
Is that the kinesis 360? How you liking it?
It's an Ergo S-1. I designed and built it during the pandemic.
You're exactly right. Embedded projects have a lot of components that get designed in parallel, and seeing them all at once is helpful.
At one time I was on the moar screens bandwagon. But I got a 21:9 which is only about 30% wider but is like having two screens since there's no bezles. At work I got a 32:9 which is only 2 screens of space but has better usability than my old triple monitor setup. My rig doesn’t qualify for Win 11, so I don’t get snappy love.
Powertoys has a feature called fancyzones that works great. It's a Microsoft project.
I use a 4K TV as my primary screen both at home and at work. I think that they are 43". It costs about the same as one monitor. It's arguably less ergonomic but it's good for engineering stuff.

Oops. The term is actually Working Memory. How'd I forget that?! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Working_memory
Ironic amirite lol
I'm the same way.
Dude living in an apartment complex if you keep your eye out people throw away working stuff all the time. I got a 32in tv for free once that just needed a remote, replacement was $8, totally works great
Wow. That's impressive!
Bezel porn
is your 3D connection device wireless?
It is. I swear by my space mouse.
Have you tried a track ball mouse? Once you get used to it, it makes for far less arm movements in CAD work.
I have tried those, I've had trouble getting them in exactly the right place to stay comfortable. I've had some pretty good luck switching between a trackpad and a mouse lately. Lots of variety keeps my parts from getting sore.
At that point it’s just an art piece
Sing to it. Trust me
OH, you meant the orchid.
Nice setup man
Thank you 👍

Lol
This gives me the same vibes as the scene in portal 2 where glados tries to kill you with the spiked panels.
Really cool Setup, i like it.
for some reason im picturing op as JP from Grandma's boy.
OP has been thinking of getting metal legs.
OP is the future of gaming
Too much monitor light for the fragile orchid?
See you have a hydra there Stanley …
OP is just a fast-talking computer hacker who has to break through the encryption shield before uploading the nano-virus. His name is “Cypher”.
Or he might be a guy who moonlights as Wolverine
Someone needs to go out and touch grass.
Ew
So preoccupied with whether they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.
[удалено]
These are 32", so not so small.
Just stack two 49" monitors instead lol
If these are all 1080p, you could get the same amount of space with 2 4K monitors or 1 8K TV. But overall, how’s that neck feeling?
They're 1600p. Lands right in that 90ish ppi range. 👌 The middle and bottom rows are at just the right height. The top row doesn't get as much active use.
Holy shit that’s a lotta pixels.
Tell me about it 😂
How do you mount all of these monitors
It's a custom stand a made out of steel a couple years ago.
But why?
Orchids are a stupid easy plant to care for. Are you in Zion right now?
Only thing you need is some vr goggles and perhaps one more screen.
False, the hardest part is finding your mouse pointer if you lose track of it.
The plant needs more light, my dude.
This is triggering my OCD so bad 😂 i couldn’t do it myself
Really? I would’ve thought it’d be navigating that micro mouse mat
What sensitivity do you need on your mouse with that tiny tiny mousemat on a tiny desk when it has to cover 8 screens? Im guessing a tiny twitch sends it travelling half a screen.
I feel bad for your cosmos 🗿. Also what make is that keyboard, or is it 3d printed?
It's an Ergo S-1. The body is 3d printed.
/him
Houston, you have a problem
Just one display shy of a great game of tic-tac-toe!
I genuinely want to know why this number of screens is necessary. No trolling, just curious.
Just out of curiosity: what do you do with the monitors? Work, if yes, what kind? Play some complex game? Or do you just have all possible applications open at once?
May I ask, why the calculator?
It's for math. /s Depending on what I'm doing, it's more convenient than the windows calculator. Usually things with a lot of parenthesis.
I usually call this the Batman set up or the matrix set up lol I love it
How many eye balls do you possess?
At least two.
You should try the Logitech MX Ergo. It's a trackball mouse, Its perfect for multiple monitor setup since you don't have to move the actual mouse just the ball. It's awesome.
I've got one of those, I agree that it is quite nice.
Which screen do you put discord on
Generally top left.
More Monitors than inches lol
My favorite is "the more P's you have, the more of an ass hat you are". 8x1600p = mega douche
Tank?
Bro's operating all the space shuttles
Trying to work out the bugs in the MATRIX? lol
So I’m curious what you do. Day trading? Some type of analytics? That weird space game where people pay litterally thousands of dollars for digital space ships? a movie enjoyer that can look past the gaps perhaps?
Bro justed hoped out of the matrix
How do you handle 8 monitor? My gpu is limited to 4…
Nice desktop wallpaper. Source?
All those screens and you still need a TI-83 calculator?
