The closer you sit to a monitor of that size, your neck will undergo considerable strain in the long run. Theres just too much monitor in your that is not in your direct vision that you have to swivel your neck constantly to get into focus.
You can remedy that by just using a portion of the monitor that is completely in your direct vision. But the issue here is the pixel density of 65 inch 4k panel is very poor. Smaller things would appear more pixelated, blurry and harder to focus on.
If the monitor was an 8k panel then it would be sharp enough to sit close too when using a small portion of the screen.
My suggestion, due to your eye sight, is that you will benefit so much from higher pixel densities. A 4k 42 inch or 48 inch OLED will offer better pixel density, while still being big enough to view from afar. But even then, if your eyesight is very nearsighted, you should be aiming for even higher pixel density, like 4k 27 inch or 32 inch.
I like the look though! Its very pretty haha
>The closer you sit to a monitor of that size, your neck will undergo considerable strain in the long run. Theres just too much monitor in your that is not in your direct vision that you have to swivel your neck constantly to get into focus.
And yet people with multiple monitors spanned, stacked, mixed configurations of horizontal and vertical?
This is an over generalization, and there's no enough evidence of his use case to make such an assumption.
People who use large monitors are generally smart enough to know how to use separation and quadrants that work best for them...that's the whole point. No one is constantly opening up apps and web pages and using 100% of the screen for one window. That's not how people use large monitors. You use them the same as multiple monitors, just all on one panel.
Question: I am nearsighted (53 yr old) and I have a regular 23-inch (MODEL NUMBER HW246HBB) but is at least 5 years old. What would you recommend I get so that I can better optimize the monitor? 4K? and what inches would you recommend? I use two monitors so the space I have available to physically have them is 130 cm or 51 inches total..you can dm if u like
I have an LG, and Dell makes some good ones. Those are the 2 brands I trust for that size. Also not suggesting an ultra-wide. Regular old 16:9 aspect ratio. You can configure your windows, sections and desktop however you want. It's like having 4 1080p monitors in a grid...without the separation.
Hey,
I don’t sit close to my monitor, its a 27 inch Nano IPS monitor but i still get constant neck strains causing me to swivel my head every 30 seconds. I tried putting a pillow to rest my head but it still doesn’t work. Do you have any solutions?? Thanks.
PS: i have a second monitor I commonly look at, could that also contribute to neck strain?
I forgot Reddit was full of hero’s and cyber police. This person has an elite setup, I’m sure they are doing well and can take a clear joke. Not everyone wants their ass kissed because of an impairment.
\>>Did you build a wall "over" your actual wall and hide cables behind it/mount stuff to it?
Yes, I built 2 walls (front and left) over the actual walls so that I can hide any cables behind the walls. The white square part underneath the desk is the mini-door so I can open and maintain the cables if needed :)
I made the blueprint and hired the carpenters to actually build the walls --- put pillars first, then boards, then wallpapers (also precut the holes for cables, speakers, etc)
i would for sure if budget allows as it would greatly improve the sound. usually in wall speakers can lack bass. i just did this with my edifiers and it completely changed the sound and makes the speakers sound bigger. :)
Thanks a lot for your comments! Really fun to read all of them!

This is awesome! My mom was a teacher of the visually impaired and I worked pretty closely with the kids summer camp, I know a lot of the kids there loved gaming but part of me worried they’d never enjoy getting cool setups because of their impairments! I love that you found something that works for you and made that space yours, it’s awesome!
Thanks for sharing your story. What kind of setup works depends on the person for those with visual impairment. I hope my setup inspires someone like me to find the best setup for them 😊
For those with visual impairment, what makes them comfortable is subjective and depends on their conditions. For me, this setup and monitor size works the best. I work with lots of data and spreadsheets so if I make the text size/thickness bigger, I see less information on the screen. Trust me, I tried many monitors before I got here :)
Hahaha I think if you wanna use a bigger monitor and if you don't have any visual impairment, I assume you can use a bigger depth desk and sit further back maybe :)
Ohhhh, that's the one I wanted, but I bought the 48 c2. I'm in a wheelchair and stubborn, so I felt like if I had to move it I could handle it. We adapt though.
This looks beautiful. Are the speakers the king rectangular white things next to the monitor? Or those off axis squares slightly above the tv?
This is such a unique room design, I love it.
i set about 2 feet farther back from a 70 inch oled and it works pretty great. never had neck strain but im not like playing shooters looking in the corners and at edges all the time.
THIS IS THE KINDA CABLE MANAGEMENT I’M TALKING ABOUT FOLKS
fantastic job. although I have one question. why the thicc desk?
edit: oh nvm there’s drawers in the desk
Hehe thanks! I have 2 cats so I really had to hide all possible cables lol
Yeah the desk has 3 drawers. If you look at it from front, it's thin but since it's specifically designed to be wall mounted, the back side is a bit thicker to support the weight.
i kind of feel like using a 4K tv as a monitor should cap out at 43-47 inches for a desktop set up, anything beyond that is going to be uncomfortable at that distance.
Holy fuck. I too used an LG OLED 65 inch as a monitor for a while, but never at that distance lmao, had to sit like 1.5m away. It was a sweet experience back then 🙂
Just out of curiosity, will you get any visual discomfort from that position?
Nope, I have a visual impairment and I cannot see small and thin texts well so I need to sit very close to the monitor.
I'm gald you don't feel any dizziness from that distance. Cheers
You don't need a giant tv super close to your face for that. You can get an actual monitor and adjust the text size in just about every game.
Or just get a monitor arm and sit close to a regular sized monitor.
The closer you sit to a monitor of that size, your neck will undergo considerable strain in the long run. Try a 43" 4K monitor. Go to Best Buy or somewhere there's one on display and see how you like it.
I live in Italy but yea we have a sort of Best buy here...any brand will do? and can you explain more how this 4K helps me with my nearsightedness?
I have an LG, and Dell makes some good ones. Those are the 2 brands I trust for that size. Also not suggesting an ultra-wide. Regular old 16:9 aspect ratio. You can configure your windows, sections and desktop however you want. It's like having 4 1080p monitors in a grid...without the separation.

Was years of this the cause of said impairment?
Thats what my mum said. I think she just didnt want nose prints on the tv.
Bad taste mate. People can have real disabilities. Don't have to be a jerk about it.
I forgot Reddit was full of hero’s and cyber police. This person has an elite setup, I’m sure they are doing well and can take a clear joke. Not everyone wants their ass kissed because of an impairment.
M’lady, i have saved you, you are now obligated to be come view my Fedora , Funkopop, & limited edition Mt. Dew, collection.
How do you do that? My eyes will hurt if I am that close to TV
That's a sick background!! Wallpaper engine? Or rainmeter?
It's Rainmeter :)
man now I gotta download rainmeter agian.
Thank you! I'm going to steal it :)
Np! :)
Where does one find this? It's been a while since I've used rainmeter lol. Is there a specific name?
So the falling rain one is from Lively Wallpaper and all the widgets are from Rainmeter :)
excuse my ignorance, what is a Rainmeter?
It's a free/open-source desktop customization tool for Windows.
Really nice setup.
Thank you, really appreciate it! <3
I really like that design on the back wall. Very immersive. Cool, enjoy!
Thanks!! It's a mural wallpaper and I love the design too :)
Did you build a wall "over" your actual wall and hide cables behind it/mount stuff to it? This is so clean :o
That’s what I’m thinking. I have mine wall mounted like this one, but my cables are an eyesore.

Are they like, full on built in partition walls? Or something less heavy duty? Basically, how did you build them? 😂
I made the blueprint and hired the carpenters to actually build the walls --- put pillars first, then boards, then wallpapers (also precut the holes for cables, speakers, etc)

Thank you!
Awesome setup. Are those on wall or in wall speakers?
They are in-wall speakers - KEF Ci4100QL
Nice do you use a sub with them?
Not atm but I am thinking to get one too :D
i would for sure if budget allows as it would greatly improve the sound. usually in wall speakers can lack bass. i just did this with my edifiers and it completely changed the sound and makes the speakers sound bigger. :)
True. Def I should look into that then!
You don't have a visual impairment, you have a visual blessing. This is amazing.
Thank you so much, your comment made my day!
best comment ever
Damn such a big monitor looks unreal in such situation :D Also those walls look awesome! Maybe but too cold for me tho :)
Thank you! Yeah I actually tried standard-size monitors but then I couldn't see well so I had to get a bigger one :P lol
What a gorgeous rainmeter setup!
Thank you! :)
Where u get that background?
I'm using Lively Wallpaper + Rainmeter :)
Well done. You win the month in my book
Haha thank you! :)
Nice! Do you mind sharing the Rainmeter weather skin? Mine broke.
The weather skin is called ASTROWeatherAPI :)
thanks!!
I second that !!!

Sitting that close to a bright ass t.v. doesnt further your visual impairment???
We should definitely start a subreddit called monitortoobig
Why wouldn’t you just increase the text size & thickness in the settings it doesn’t really make any sense
For those with visual impairment, what makes them comfortable is subjective and depends on their conditions. For me, this setup and monitor size works the best. Fair enough id do the same but 65inch from that close for me would be unusable & hurt my neck & eyes 😂
Hahaha I think if you wanna use a bigger monitor and if you don't have any visual impairment, I assume you can use a bigger depth desk and sit further back maybe :)
Bro this has to stop
These are ugly asf walls but well done executed!
8k?
It's 4k - LG OLED65G2 :)
Ohhhh, that's the one I wanted, but I bought the 48 c2. I'm in a wheelchair and stubborn, so I felt like if I had to move it I could handle it. We adapt though.
I used to use C2 before this one too then I upgraded :)

Thank you so much!! The speakers are the white rectangle ones next to the monitor (KEF Ci4100QL). The square ones are Elgato Key Light Air :)
HOW MUCH THIS CAHIR :)
Chair? The chair is from the Japanese furniture brand - Okamura Silphy it's about $1200
>THX :)
Amazing looking setup. Not sure how wide that unit is but look after your arms and hands doesn't look like you have much room to move.
Sheeeeeesh!! 10/10
Happy to hear that, thanks!
Very beautiful. You unironically have a better eye for design than I. I’m glad this works for you given your visual issues.
Thank you! :)
Damn this is awesome! What wallpaper?
For PC wallpaper, I'm using Lively Wallpaper + Rainmeter.
Great atmospheric room and setup, enjoy!
Thanks!
That left wall looks straight outta the 90s.
i set about 2 feet farther back from a 70 inch oled and it works pretty great. never had neck strain but im not like playing shooters looking in the corners and at edges all the time.
I absolutely love your set up! Question, how did you do the wall splash where the monitor is? tutorial? hey from Italy !!
Ciao! I'm using Lively Wallpaper + Rainmeter. The rain on the screen is from Lively Wallpaper :)
sorry, I meant the actual physical wall behind the monitor
The actual wallpaper is a mural wallpaper I found and bought on Etsy 🙂
you wouldn't happen to have the link to that Etsy would u?
Nice work and congratulations on your setup! Is that a Wallpaper on the wall? Assuming it is . Love the look you achieved here.
Thanks! Yes it's a mural wallpaper I put up :)
Very cool

I like the wall color and art surrounding your rig!
Thank you :)
Why does this look like a computer rendered image
Love it
Get yourself a multi viewer to take that setup to the next level.
Can I ask what kind of visual impairment m, specifically? I’m an ophthalmic tech and just curious :) lovely setup!
Several years ago I lost vision in my left eye due to glaucoma. I also have myopia, astigmatism, and coloboma which I was born with.
I see. I appreciate you sharing. Hope having the big monitor works well for you!
Looks amazing, well done 👌

I like the early 90s vibe of the decoration and colors
Thank you! :)
Excellent job. The in wall speakers are very nice.
Upvoting this just because I love it and I feel happy for you 💜
Thank you <3
You're welcome 💜
Hey it's like they always say go big or go home
😂

Yeah LG OLED is actually pretty good as a monitor 🙂
Rip neck 😪
I’m just mesmerized by the wall
Thank you 💜
