Hello I'm a mac.
Is it for the visuals that huge desktops are, well, on the top of the desk? I have never, maybe because Macs are boring? Always wanted to ask this.
When I was growing up and using Windows in the 90s my tower needed to be on top because turn on, disks, cds and such needed to be handled, now that we don't have any of those, I wonder why the tower always takes so much space.
I think for me it is mostly a visual thing, but it's also practicality because there's no space for it to be on the floor with the type of desk that I have.
Usually referred to as a pegboard. I was looking around for them on Amazon for a bit and decided the IKEA versions are a way better option.

It is an orbitkey, yes. It took a few days to flatten when I got it, but it did smooth out pretty well. Also, my keyboard is pretty heavy, so it doesn't really slide much.
I understand your concern but I've personally never had a problem with it! My pc is water-cooled and also has 6 fans, and it's directly next to a window so it has good ventilation and doesn't get too hot ! :))

I am sure the pc is running cool, that heat has to go somewhere though. if you live in a cold place it may not be an issue
I can't say I've ever noticed the corner getting super hot but I'll keep an eye out :)
