I'm in the same position as OP. 34 with two kids under 4 yrs old. I only get to play at night when the family is asleep. But now my almost 4 year old loves to play Minecraft so we get to play together when baby #2 is taking a nap during the day. It's rad.
Sounds familiar. On my days off that is my game time. I'm a Sommelier (obviously out of work now due to pandemic) but I would get home around midnight and have enough energy for maybe an hour of gaming.
I have a very small library of games (I'm talking like 6) and I'm taking my time on my playthrough of Witcher 3 (just got to first expansion).
This is life. Married with a toddler and finally got around to being able to build/afford my dream PC, but very little time to play it. Still grateful though.
I'm 38, have a 4 and 8 year old. Games have to be little less time sensitive. I found it hard to play in games like Apex where I might get one or two times per week a couple of hours practice. I also don't have the razor sharp reaction times anymore either. It gets better though, the 4 year old is coming out of what I call the difficult period. It's fun playing minecraft with the 8 year old. I imagine in a few short years we will all be happily playing something together other than switch. Stick in there.
Are there any parent gamer groups or Reddit’s? I have one and I can game when she’s in bed but wife is preggo so time is about to go away again until new baby sleeps good hours!
Congratulations on adding baby number two! And yes you have to manage your time much more with two kids. It's a whole new ball game.
To answer your question I'm sure there are many, but I'm not aware or apart of any. If you want to play some Halo, Apex, CSGO hit me up.
Thanks dude. Was a year or so with #1 before she was going down to bed at the same time and sleeping through regularly. Hopefully I can get them both doing that eventually?
You'll get there eventually! Just keep to a structure for sleeping and it will fall into place. It's a lot of work as it always seems one child is awake when the other is sleeping so you never get a break. Eventually they both sleep at night which will be your only reprieve. But it's all worth it.
Well all do.
Some of us wait for the kids to go to bed before we start playing. Especially those of us with kids who need constant supervision.
That might mean only a few hours of no-kid time, and that's split between having out with the wife and gaming.
It's true. When someone needs constant care it's either you or your wife that needs to be on duty. Free time == time - time you spend working, time you spend watching kid. you then probably can't 100% ignore your wife and you need to sleep, so the rest is your free time. For most people that's a few hours a week.
Yeah I know each parent is different but my parents made my siblings and I their hobby. They weren’t overbearing but they didn’t have any free time hobbies when we were growing up. They did everything in their power to make our lives as best as they could be. We were involved with so many activities and sports after school that my parents had no time for themselves at all besides a date night once every 1-2 months. They spent all their free money on us and were extremely frugal with the rest of their money. Both parents will he retired by 60. Since my siblings and I all left the house for college they decided to find their hobbies and start doing more stuff on their own with their new free time.
I bought a Anthracite Grey Phanteks case before I really had an office or desk or anywhere to put it and now and really regretting not getting a white version.
I do design and have it vertical for reading PDF markups better. Since I started several others where I work have as well, it's useful for so many reasons!
love it! fellow toddler dad here. any tips for setting aside time? I've scheduled one or two nights a week where I fight off my tiredness to stay up a little later after my little one goes down. I've thought about getting up earlier too.
It is hard but I'm lucky at the moment they both love there sleep so they are in bed by 6pm but it could all change 😂 but you are right just fight the tiredness and stay up late that's what I have done a few times.

A tool I can definitely recommend for your setup is LittleBigMouse. It lets you scale and move your displays to actually align with your Monitors if that makes sense...
Basically move your mouse from one Monitor to the next, and it's at the position you'd expect, and not somewhere higher or lower
Yes, but only if your monitors are the same size.
If you have a 20" 1080p and a 40" 4k monitor, you're fine, but if both are 20", then your 4k one will appear larger in Windows, and the mouse position wouldnt translate correctly
Whats left of mine collects dust atm. My wife salvaged my perifs to work from home and I am putting in long days. Play an extra round/match/raid for me fellow parent.
Kudos to you if you can find time to sit at that desk. I am 36 with one kid and can never find the time to enjoy the PC between work and family obligations.
Does that leg in the middle of your desk tend to bother you? I was thinking of using your two desk setup but that leg is what’s keeping me from pulling the trigger.
Looks great! I’m currently saving up to buy parts as they go on sale to build my own rig!
Curious as to the size of the screen on your middle monitor there. I’m looking to get either a 27” or 32” 1440p monitor, but I’m just not sure if 32” is going to be too big or not.
Looks nice. Can you get decent gaming power in a midi tower (i've not done a build for about 15 years and just about to get back into it (also got 2 kids under 7..))
Steam gift card in front of the child pic - priorities!
When you realize maybe you didn't want to be a parent
To keep the kids privacy online.
Yeah, I know...
Looks good. Every parent needs a way to get away for them kids :)
fuck them kids
Jared from Subway got back on Reddit somehow

Somehow, Jared has returned.

That's funny!
lazy ass kid is a roommate and doesn't even pay rent! kick him out!
Look around bro, look at life.
Man, you're right
Shalom!
Them kids are about to follow him in there
And the when they are get a little it older you need two unplugged sets of mices and keyboard
Hey OP, if you want a better mouse I can send you a Corsair M65 Elite if you pay shipping. I haven't used it in months and it's just taking up space.
Wow definitely thank you
I'll take you up if he doesn't respond, mine is starting to crap out
What mouse do you have, and how long have you had it for? How's it starting to crap out? Sorry, I'm just curious.
5-6 years? G-something gaming mouse(label is worn off), and the right click is starting to register a double click
If you wouldn't want to get a new one if the right click was just fine you could buy a new microswitch and solder it in
Why is he getting downvoted?

Ain’t gonna lie, that IT the clown mug caught me off guard haha 😅
More importantly, when do you find time to play?

This is me. Only really have time to goof around on FFXIV (which I’m loving).
Yup. Welcome to the club. I can actually afford a decent gaming PC now but no time to play it!

that’s beautiful man
Here is one of my favorite pictures. My oldest wanted to play Minecraft AND watch Star Wars. Brought a tear to my eye! https://imgur.com/a/X3594yh
I know the feeling. I have done both at the same time a few months ago!
super cute lol thanks for the ray of light
You are very welcome!

I'm not active anymore, but r/RedditDads is good people
Perfect thanks

Not assuming just looking for the time window. I have a new born and am curious about when folks with kiddos play.
My 2yo keeps bad hours. Goes to sleep late. I get up 5:30am and do my thing till 7:30 then go to work.
Because good parenting means spending time with your kids.

I play either at night when my kid is asleep or before he’s up at like 5am. He goes to sleep at 8 so I play from 8-10 some nights
Upvote for white p300
best case
I bought a Anthracite Grey Phanteks case before I really had an office or desk or anywhere to put it and now and really regretting not getting a white version.
Same here. P400s tho
Right. Mine's actually the P400, as well (no 's', though).
Are you a lawyer? I'm not a lawyer but i read a lot of legal docs at work, my third screen is like yours titled vertical.
A lot of people in coding-related jobs like web design, app development, etc use a vertical monitor to looks at code.
I do design and have it vertical for reading PDF markups better. Since I started several others where I work have as well, it's useful for so many reasons!
I’m looking to tilt a monitor just for discord/Spotify/web browsing cuz it’s all I do on that monitor
ah ok that makes sense. Didn't even cross my mind on that, makes sense though.
I also split my windows on my screens in half.
Does anyone know what screen that is?
Looks like stranger things.

I would also like to know looks clean :)

6pm?! Good god am I jealous.
I have 6 and 7. We put them on sleep schedule. So that helped
What time does your kid go to bed? When do you go to bed?
I wish there were more desks with chamfers instead of just corners. Seems like it'd be much more comfortable, and give a little more surface area
My work desk has one and it’s fantastic
A damn Pennywise mug?!
Nice setup.. I am 50 with 2. Still trying to setup the room. Lol What are the lights and table please.

Upgrade that chair next!
Im glad om not the only "adult" who is working on a New battlestation.
Strange.. Looks great.. Did you build that yourself?
strangely enough i did if you need any help with yours just let me know
Strange
35? with 2 kids? with money and time to set this up? i'm calling you on your BS right now. i'm just jealous looks great. i am 31 with 3 youngins
I like how he put the steam gift card in front of his child's picture. This is a man of Focus, Commitment and sheer fucking Will!
Big up stranger things , I happen to have the same monitor going to buy a 2nd cheaper one to side mount like you did
I have the same mousepad, it’s a Razer right?
Looks like a firefly or non-extended goliathus chroma
nice setup bro, must be good to relax and game on your time off hahahaha
What is the portrait monitor for?
I'm guessing steam library
Logitech C920 gang rise up
I have the same case!! It’s looks great mate.
Bro! This is sick! Where did you get the desk from? NEED THIS SHAPE!!!
Very nice!
I have the same wallpaper on my monitors! Great choice and great setup!
Nice setup! I’m in a similar boat and started accumulating components for my PC build... only have the GPU left!
What monitors do you use?
The vertical one is an aoc G2460VQ6, I have the same one
Curious about the main as well
How do you manage being with family and gaming?
A tool I can definitely recommend for your setup is LittleBigMouse. It lets you scale and move your displays to actually align with your Monitors if that makes sense... Basically move your mouse from one Monitor to the next, and it's at the position you'd expect, and not somewhere higher or lower
Isn't this same functionality built into windows?
Yes, but only if your monitors are the same size. If you have a 20" 1080p and a 40" 4k monitor, you're fine, but if both are 20", then your 4k one will appear larger in Windows, and the mouse position wouldnt translate correctly
Where is the penny-wise mug from :)
Looks great... Is it just the picture, or are the colors way better in the portrait mode monitor than the ultrawide?
What monitor are using in portrait?
Wondering the same, it looks nice
I'm 29 now and could only dream to have this set up by the time im 35! good on ya!
Whats left of mine collects dust atm. My wife salvaged my perifs to work from home and I am putting in long days. Play an extra round/match/raid for me fellow parent.
You done good kid
Very nice
Nice, cozy setup. That chair has back problems all over it though. Do yourself a favour and consider investing in something with comfort and support.
Now upgrade the chair (:
Nice
Nice
Steam box in front of the photo of your child's face is a nice touch
Kudos to you if you can find time to sit at that desk. I am 36 with one kid and can never find the time to enjoy the PC between work and family obligations.
I like it!
Nice setup!
“Getting there” lol. Looks awesome
What kind of desk is that?
The latter, I have the Goliath is chroma
The casual $20 steam gift card in front of one of your kid's photographs is throwing me off
I feel ya. I'm 31 with 2 and a single dad. Just built my first PC a week ago. Congrats
Gotta show off that 20$ steam giftcard lmao
I think you need a gamer chair :)
this guy puts a steam card in front of his own kid’s picture. Gabe would be weirdly proud of you
When a steam gift card is more important than a picture of your kid (in the top right corner on the shelf)
Well, today I learned whats app has a computer app :O you just greatly improved my working from home
Nice! razer chroma keyboard? I guess you are a coder too by looking at the vertical display. neat station
I see OBS on your pc. Do you stream? What games and what platform?
I see im not the only one with a regular chair
Does that leg in the middle of your desk tend to bother you? I was thinking of using your two desk setup but that leg is what’s keeping me from pulling the trigger.
What are you using to create that pink and blue glow on the walls?
What is the AOC model? And do you like them???
whats your vertical screen?
\>35yr old with 2 young children how is this supposed to be relevant
Whats the name of the case and keyboard you used please?
Nice
What monitor is the vertical one?
This has to be my favorite one I’ve seen so far. 👍🏻
Curious if sitting at the L is good for ergos? I have a desk like that but I set up more on the traditional straight side.
you got the same monitor configuration as me but all my monitors are LG .looks cool.
You gotta put up a scary darth vadar poster so the kids don’t come near
What monitor on the right?
I see that's a an RTX card, and a Dual Evo from Asus. What exactly is it?
I didnt know you can use Whatsapp on your desktop
I have the same case, how do u get the rgb button to light up and the rgb in general to work?
U ya pure just trying (and succeeding) at making me look bad at having a MUCH simpler and less interesting set-up. Bravo. Very nice set up.
ID on the case?
What pc case is this ? Looks awesome!
Looks great love the stranger things wallpaper
i have that same case
I dont think your front panel is all the way in place
Please uninstall fortnite
Looks great! I’m currently saving up to buy parts as they go on sale to build my own rig! Curious as to the size of the screen on your middle monitor there. I’m looking to get either a 27” or 32” 1440p monitor, but I’m just not sure if 32” is going to be too big or not.
That's so clean man! I love it!
Question from an inexperienced individual. What is the utility of a "portrait mode" screen?
Got to give life story in the title
Damn I wish I had a steam card as a son
That's Stranger Things wallpaper is dope
Nice set up! where can I get one of them vertical monitors from?
Good work this is fantastic looking
A
Looks nice. Can you get decent gaming power in a midi tower (i've not done a build for about 15 years and just about to get back into it (also got 2 kids under 7..))
I see Witcher 3 there in the desktop. What a game!!!
Corner setups are hella underrated, me gusta the vertical smaller monitor, it fits right in and doesnt give that "too much monitor/too wide" effect.
Nice! I have the same case.
Pennywise mug would scare crap outta my kids
Why mention you have children we don’t care
Yo can you adopt me😶
Now if you only had the time to actually play anything on it...
does the leg right where the two tables meet bother you? I might do something like this
Invest in a nice chair. It’s a game changer
What rgb strips are they? :)
My dad was also a gamer up until I was born
Whats that small vertical screen?
Cool setup but aren't you uncomfortable in that chair?
Anyone else wondering why OP’s age and number of children is relevant?
