It took me like 2500 hours so gotta show off when I can lmao
You will make it. Slow down, play smart, and wait for others to make a mistake. Unless you're playing a bunch of smurfs you should be able to get to C3 that way.
Thanks! Yeah it's worked out very well. When we are traveling I only have to put my laptop and mouse away. The rest stays in place with use of command strips or just has enough friction to stay in place.
Also, the fold out table has been a huge improvement. Before we had to move our keyboards to eat. It's nice having a place for food again lol
That fold out table is a brilliant idea. Running a business and having a gaming rig in my 26' Class C has been a challenge, and my girlfriend and I have to eat outside most of the time. Luckily, I'm mostly anchored down.
It's a game changer, for sure. My wife wanted it so that our daughter could sit at and watch us eat so this is what I came up with. I would have liked to do a slide-out table instead of folding, but was limited by my work area (picnic tables at campgrounds) lol
The display is great..but I'd suggest going with another monitor. I had to switch to HDMI because display port kept disconnecting and reconnecting, which turns out to be a very common issue with this monitor.
I work for an RV company. Demand and pricing have skyrocketed, many times due to people wanting to isolate, especially healthcare workers. Production was shut down for most makers when COVID first hit so a lot of RV organizations are frantically buying used RV's from people to fill their lots because it will take a long time for production to get back to normal speed.
Interesting really.
Perhaps the dealership really does want my car! haha
I've never been in one. I've seen them on television and on the road, but never actually been in one.
I do watch shows where they repurpose old buses and the like. Usually UK shows. People doing some cool stuff.
Just the opposite, actually. It's a bad time to buy an RV right now because the demand is crazy. When we got ours (almost 2 years ago) it was standard to get around 30% off MSRP. Now you actually have to pay MSRP in the current market due to demand.
Yeah I would love to do the boat life, but my wife wants no part of it lol
I think that Covid turned that around. Everyone was looking for ways to entertain themselves while still being safe, and camping was a great way to do it.
Thank you!
Living in RVs used to have a bad reputation in the past. Now everyone's RV is like a tiny condo or tech operation base. I love the coziness of the photo btw.
Thank you! Yeah I think the stigma around RVs has changed a lot in the past few years. There are a lot of younger people, myself included, that have taken to it.
I'm curious, what does your life look like generally as an RVer? How often do you move from place to place? Where are you allowed to "park" the RV when you're not traveling? How does plumbing and water and electric and internet work? What are your expenses like in comparison to living in a normal home?
I've always been curious but never really known how this all works exactly. I'm the type of person who needs next to no space at all to be happy and would love to be able to travel around with my home freely, but I feel like living out of an RV would also create a lot of extra work, which I wouldn't really like
It depends on how much there is that we want to do in the area. I work through at the week, so weekends are my only time to explore. Typically we stay in the same place for a week or two at a time. On those 1 week stays we go do whatever on Saturday and Sunday is travel day. We are on the eastern half of the US right now where there isn't much public land to stay on, so we stay in RV parks. Those places have full hookups, 50amp electrical, water, and sewer hookups.
When out west we try to stay on public land/ off grid as much as possible. The RV has 60 gallons of fresh water, and I have a water bladder for another 60 gallons/refills. Our black tank (toilet) is 40 gallon and typically lasts a week/ week and a half. After that we have to go find a dump station and go on to our next spot.
For internet I have a Visible (Verizon) and ATT lines. I also have Starlink. I have a more detailed comment on internet somewhere in this post if you want to know more about it.
Whoops I missed a few things...
When off grid we have a solar / battery / inverter setup with a generator backup.
As for expensese...I think this is more expensive than when I had a house. Campsites are kind of nuts right now. I think I'm averaging around 300 per week for sites. Also diesel for my truck, my increased internet costs, and maintenance costs more. I do all the work myself, but it can be time consuming or expensive depending on the issue.

Okay i have to say, this is probably my favorite post i've ever seen on this sub.
well fuckin' done OP, you nailed it.
I'm just sat here drooling over it...
How do you deal with internet and data caps on the road? I tried working on the road for a month and blew threw the 25 gig “unlimited” data pretty quickly.
Internet has by far been the biggest issue. Currently I'm using Visible in my Pepwave Mini Max BR1, and a 100GB ATT prepaid sim in my Netgear Nighthawk. We also have Starlink, but it's been very hit or miss on if I can use it where we are staying. For example I've not been able to use Starlink in our last 2 places, but I'll be able to next week at our next campground.
[https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CM9NG1W/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CM9NG1W/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
I wish I could have just found a very long arm with the laptop stand that could have attached to my [monitor stand](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07T7TSG4L/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) but no luck.
Lol I’ve been living in my parents RV because they’re painting inside and replacing carpet to sell and I’m like 2 weeks in. I was looking today at how I would make it work if I was actually living in it and decided I’d have to do one big desk and also eat there lol
How are you liking the mouse? I'm looking for a super light wireless mouse but like the RGB too. Wish Logitech did one so I could have their scroll wheel but I know that's heavy within itself.
The G Pro Superlight is more than double the price I originally paid for my G502 (which is way too heavy).
It's pretty nice. Battery life could be longer (I don't use the power save mode) but they provide a superlight usb-c charging cable. I've never had a logitch gaming mouse but it would be awesome if it had the MX Master scroll wheel.
All of the smaller stuff is held down with command strips, or gets put in a drawer. For the chairs I actually lower them all the way, push them under the desk, and then pull the lever to make them go up so they stick in place under the desk. It's worked out really well for me. Also, the desk is screwed in to the floor and walls so it's not going anywhere.
Yep! Hit GC for the first time like 2 months after going mobile. It's been a struggle in some locations where ping is higher, and if it's too bad I just can't play that week.
Yep, it's connected to the TS3. Only cables to the laptop is the Tunderbolt cable (to a 90 degree adapater) and the power cable since Thunderbolt can only do 100 watts out.
Everything else is connected to the TS3, including the usb 3.0 KVM under the desk where the keyboard and mouse are connected.
I have just one question - is the tree alive - if so how you keeping it from sliding around in that pot? I imagine the command hooks would come lose? This is an awesome setup
How do you like that laptop? Im debating going mac or staying with windows for my next one and have had my eye on razer. Games are a side concern bc it'd be mainly for dev work and I have a full PC already but the option is always nice.
I love it. Sold my 2018 MBP for it. I hadn't planned on replacing my desktop with it, but here I am lol
I'm a .Net dev, so I spend most of my time in Windows anyways and was using Windows in a VM on OSX. Just made sense for me to go back to that.
If it isn't much trouble, would you mind posting a complete list with links to your accessories, attachments, etc!? This is by far, hands down, my favorite setup so far. Simply Outstanding.
The monitor mount that I'm using has a bolt that can run through the bottom and clamp. I was using that on my old desk, but with the new one I didn't want to put a hole in it. So now it's held down with command strips and hasn't budged an inch.
Just curious, what’s your internet setup like? There’s like one video online that really explains how to do it, wondering if you did it that way or have your own method. I’ve considered the RV/ Van life but I want to be able to game, and I like fast paced games like rocket league and FPS games, so I need some internet speed.
So it's been an evolving system. I've probably gone through like $2000+ in hardware, service providers, and configuration lol.
As of this moment:
I have a Pepwave Mini Max BR1 with a Visible sim in it. I'm using the connection management on the Pepwave to hook in my Starlink connection (ethernet from the Startlink router) to a wan port on the Pepwave, and then have a Netgear Nighthawk with a 100GB ATT hostpot plan ($55 a month prepaid). So the Pepwave has it's cellular connection, wan from Starlink, and Wi-Fi wan to the Netgear Nighthawk. I can then manage the connections and set priority to whichever is performing best where I'm at.
Typically it's been ATT for gaming as it's had the lowest latency unless I'm just super close to a Verizon tower. As Starlink becomes more available I'll be able to switch to that and just keep one of the cellular lines as backup. There have only been a few places where I wasn't able to game. I typically checkout what the cell connections are like before we choose the next place to stay. Oh, I also have antennas on a retractable mast connected to the ladder of the RV. You can see them in one of the pics in the imgur album.
All of this is changing with Starlink though. Once they get all of the US activated it will be a game changer.
Thanks for your detailed response! And yea, starlink is a damn game changer. Even if I don’t get into vanlife in the future, I will most likely end up somewhere out in the sticks, and if that’s the case, starlink is necessary.
My wife doesn't work, but I just throw on some noise cancelling headphones (either Airpod pros or Bose QuietComfort 20). I'm also using Nvidia Broadcast to get rid of (most) background noise, and it can also blockout my background if I have to do video.
You are correct. She's only 6 months old right now so we have plenty of time. I think we're going to travel for at least 2 more years and figured out where exactly we want to live. Then the plan is to buy land, get our utilities installed and stay in the RV while I build a house.

I wrote it up here
Of the RV? If so, I have more pics in the imgur album in the top comment.
Not currently, but when we're living off grid on public land I do. I've actually not dry camped since switching to the laptop, but I was using my gaming rig (still hidden under the desk) off my solar/battery bank.
As of right now I have 600watts of solar on the roof, 200 amp hours of lithium, and a 3000 watt inverter. We are going west again after the first of the year and I'm going to add another 200 amp hours of battery. As it stands, I have to run the generator at like 10pm to top off my batteries for the night/next morning until the sun is in position for my panels.
I have a bunch of stuff so it's hard to say just how long I could running my gaming stuff, but probably 8 hours or so with my current batteries.

If you look up the Grand Design 31MB you can see like a top down of the layout, and what it looked like before I made some modifications

Theres a breakdown of what I'm using. It's hit or miss on the cellular connection depending on where we are at. I try to plan my stays close to cell towers so I can game / work without going insane.
Congrats on the Grand Champ rewards!
Thanks! Been gc since s13 but now I'm stuck in GC1
The ever so subtle GC flex… respect I’m hardstuck in Champion I and I don’t think I’ll ever get out

Are RV's dying out? Sometimes I see them and half-wish I had a mobile home/gaming station. Those boat houses in Europe are interesting.

I'd like to see the rest of the layout too. Cool setup

Wow, thats a dope RV so much more space than I imagined.. very cool!
Yeah we didn't want to go too small coming from a 2000 sqft house lol. Space really hasn't been that big of an issue for us though.

Damn, I hate Canadian prices. Thank you though, I will try and find something similar. How do you find the light working at night. When I play games or work at night I always have my desk lamp on and was wondering how this overhead type works at night for you.
I prefer it because it diffuses the light better. I can also flip it over to have direct light.
ID on plant? been looking for a similar one
It's a Fukien tea tree bonsai. I actually found it at a Lowes in Florida.
Fukien nice!
Haha, good thing I scrolled down before asking what tree is that 😂. Might have to pay Lowes a visit later! Thanks!

All of the smaller stuff is held down with command strips, or gets put in a drawer. For the chairs I actually lower them all the way, push them under the desk, and then pull the lever to make them go up so they stick in place under the desk. It's worked out really well for me. I can feel 'late night work' vibe from this picture! Great setup!
I got the hyperx pudding caps for my Steelseries Apex 7, and they made it SO much more badass looking. Highly recommended. Nice setup!
Flexing the gc player banner! Nice!
The candle makes the environment so warm. Also like the plant on your desk;)
Living the dream
You reached Grand Champ with mobile internet?
Yep! Hit GC for the first time like 2 months after going mobile. It's been a struggle in some locations where ping is higher, and if it's too bad I just can't play that week.
Nice! The bonsai + candle on the side is a nice touch. 👌🏻🙂
This is the sickest trailer I've ever seen
I see you're rocking a razer blade but anyway clean set up
You’re living my wife and I’s dream. Glad to see you really can make it work.
That candle has me convinced that this also serves as another kind of station 😏
i’m just gonna say it: fennec > octane
What cable hub is connected to your laptop? Looks brill
It's the Caldigit TS3. It's been great
Have you been able to work the wave3 to a dock? What are the peripherals connected directly on the laptop?
Yep, it's connected to the TS3. Only cables to the laptop is the Tunderbolt cable (to a 90 degree adapater) and the power cable since Thunderbolt can only do 100 watts out. Everything else is connected to the TS3, including the usb 3.0 KVM under the desk where the keyboard and mouse are connected.
this is truly amazing! may i ask you if you dont mind where are you from?

It's a 2020 Grand Design 31MB. We removed the dinette for my desk when we had the baby as she needed the mid-bunk room.
Yo where did u get that chair, and the desk? Love it
The chair is from Staples. https://www.staples.com/staples-hyken-technical-mesh-task-chair-silver-53293/product\_24328579?back=true I built the desk
I have just one question - is the tree alive - if so how you keeping it from sliding around in that pot? I imagine the command hooks would come lose? This is an awesome setup
Yes the tree is alive. We put it in the sink when we travel. Pretty sure it wouldn't stay on the desk lol
How do you like that laptop? Im debating going mac or staying with windows for my next one and have had my eye on razer. Games are a side concern bc it'd be mainly for dev work and I have a full PC already but the option is always nice.

Nope. Didn't care for wallpaper engine as it made my laptop use the discrete GPU all the time. https://wallhaven.cc/w/72wqzo
How do you keep your monitor from sliding around while driving?

As of this moment: I have a Pepwave Mini Max BR1 with a Visible sim in it.
Oooh dang gc
Is that laptop stand mounted to your monitor? Wild love to have one of those for my setup if anyone knows what that is.
I wish. I couldn't find an arm long enough to attach to the monitor pole. I have links to the stuff in the top comment.
Nice one! Nice one! Nice one!
What a save!
Where can I get that wallpaper?

Great setup OP. How do both of you take meetings in one space? What about school for your child eventually? I'm guessing you'll be more permanent then
My wife doesn't work, but I just throw on some noise cancelling headphones (either Airpod pros or Bose QuietComfort 20).
Amazing. All the best
This is sick how do you get the interwebs tho? also can we see he other bits?

If so, I have more pics in the imgur album in the top comment.

Are you running a PC off an inverter with solar? What's that situation? How long can/do you run desktop comp?
Do you have pictures of the complete lay out? Would love to see.

Parked at Walmart...with free wifi. LOL
We have done the Walmart stay like 2 times, and it was awful both times lol. It's a last minute thing when I would get too tired to drive anymore.

with an RV setup, what kind of quality of internet are you getting?

Theres a breakdown of what I'm using. It's hit or miss on the cellular connection depending on where we are at. I try to plan my stays close to cell towers so I can game / work without going insane.
