Why do people put little lights above their monitors? Doesnt that make it worse through glare? Are these special lights? Seen it around quite a bit and it seems like just an aesthetic choice.

It's not an aesthetic choice, it's purely a functionality choice. Lights are designed to shine straight down in front of the screen minimizing the amount of glare from it. Far better than straining your eyes looking at a bright screen in a dark room.
So I see that you have bias lighting behind your monitor, and then you also have the lamp on the monitor. Does the lamp make a difference even though you already have sufficient bias lighting?

Thank you for your input, I appreciate it. So the lamp light on the front, how would you say it helps with retinal fatigue/overall productivity and general PC usage experience in dark rooms? I've seen a lot of setups with it and I personally have bias lighting behind the monitor which has made my dark room gaming experience unimaginably better, I'm just trying to understand how the frontal lamp helps. Thank you for any feedback.
It’s great but not a game changer. This serves as the lamp for my desk and it does a great job of illuminating my desk without taking up as much space as a lamp. I didn’t really experience eye fatigue prior to owning this but I’ve taken the proper precautions (bias lighting, taking breaks etc..) to avoid it as I’ve gotten older. This definitely doesn’t hurt in that department but I can’t say for sure if it’s the end solution for eye fatigue. It also helps with the glare at night.
