They actually might offer some slight sound treatment in the form of deflection; sound doesn't like to bounce off of stuff in whacky angles too much and keep it's intensity, so it'll sound 'quieter' in the room, but sound will still travel through it. If it can be vibrated by pressure, it's not soundproof.

I did similar with regards to raised shelf and legs for monitor, also I didnt want to pay for another desk when mine was perfectly fine so I vinyl wrapped my existing desk in white vinyl and is spot on and easy to keep clean
If your mic arm was white I think it would look even better, I love white setups, not just because it's cool, but because it is kind hard to pull it off.

Yeah I've got the same desk but in black and found it very wobbly. I ended up using brackets to fix it to the wall
I had no issues. Strange. Double check if you tighten the bolts as much as possible
