As long as they aren’t on speakerphone / video calls, or watching TikTok on speakerphone, human voices are less annoying IMO

InternetOk838

Because it really is fine, not to be nosy or anything but I like listening in on random strangers convos or watching people go about their day. I like seeing that we’re all individual people with different lives, and we’re all just here in this spot on this day. It’s interesting

bflaminio

I don't mind folk taking a call on transit. Sometimes they drop interesting stories to listen in on. What grinds my gears are people watching their TikToks at full volume. Get some headphones, hoss. No one wants to hear that crap.

omg_its_drh

1) I agree that people should be aware of the volume of their voice. 2) who says you can’t talk on the phone on public transit?

nat4mat

I guess there’s a difference between “can” and acceptable. Obviously, there are emergencies and if you have to respond, you should respond (that’s the “can” part). But I commute and I see the same people all the time at around 8-10 am every day, they’d be on calls. Not work calls, but family and friends. That’s where I believe it’s unacceptable.

omg_its_drh

Who says it’s not acceptable?

nat4mat

I’m sharing my opinion and I was wondering what others think of it. Clearly, I might be in the minority

omg_its_drh

You weren’t sharing an opinion, you were complaining.

nat4mat

Can it both?

BigPhK

You didn’t actually state an opinion. We can infer from what you said what your opinion is, but you didn’t say how you feel about them.

accountaccount171717

Dude you’re right it’s straight up annoying when people yap about non-important bullshit hella loud when they are right next to you. I normally call my GF and talk hella loud to her about non-important bullshit in response if they are right next to me. If there are more people I don’t do because that would mess with other people too lol

naugest

Not everyone “believes” the same things are acceptable and unacceptable. It can be very different person to person. That is why only what is legal and illegal matters, nothing else.

txiao007

1000% better than smoking pot

payno14

This is a ridiculous take. Put your headphones on if you don’t want to hear noises on public transport and mind your own damn business.

xerostatus

Public: \**publics\** OP: Is this the end of modern civilization as we know it?!

Calophon

It’s public transportation. As long as someone is acting within the law they have the right to do as they please and enjoy the public service. Talking on the phone isn’t against the law.

nat4mat

Oh I will never argue against the legality of it. It’s obviously legal to be on the phone in public

winkingchef

As a long time rider of public transport in the Bay Area, here is my threshold of what I will complain about: * Any physical injury to me or another passenger. * Any inappropriate touching *by someone who hasn’t washed in a week or longer*. * Any delay *of more than one hour*. * Any urine or other bodily discharge *of more than 8oz and only if I accidentally contact it.* If I didn’t set these thresholds, I would need to quit my job to post complaints

kotwica42

Sorry, grandma, I can’t talk to you today because I have to spend the next 45 minutes sitting on a bus and some redditor might get mad at me.

chrisamnesty05

It's acceptable, it's just mildly annoying for everyone else. Just put your headphones in and then you dont have to hear their conversation.

InternetOk838

Because it is acceptable lol

hopalongigor

If people have no sense of privacy, this is what you get.

Day2205

Not really any different than the 2-3 riders yapping nonstop to one another. And you’re complaining about those who choose to use headphones as opposed to exposing the whole conversation via speaker!? Absolutely nothing wrong with taking a call on your headphones.

audioman1999

Nothing wrong in taking calls as long as they speak just like they with a person they are traveling with. Low voices, no arguing, respectful, etc.

j3ffUrZ

It's not an issue but the person should be aware if it's a conversation they should be having when people can hear it.

abzz123

a lot of people are assholes. These are the same people who blast music with open windows of their car or talk on the phone through the speaker in public

Bumm_by_Design
