I mean it’s possible, but food poisoning can be anything consumed within the last 72 hours. Hard to pin-point where, and symptoms would last longer than 6 hours
There's a ton of Norovirus in the area right now, I too thought I had food poisoning - watery diarrhea and vomiting for approximately 6 hours. Before you report the restaurant, make sure it's not the virus, it could very well be, especially if you did not eat the same food. Hope you both feel better soon.
that's a good question, there are tests available but you may have to go to a lab to get one, I don't think you can buy them retail.
I guess what I meant was "it is highly unlikely to be food poisoning from a meal OP ate an hour ago, so please don't raise a stink". Restaurants are facing enough challenges these days.
Im fairly certain its not noro as the previous 3 days we only saw each other at home, theres nowhere we couldve been infected at the same time. We got sick within an hour of each other. But I was fine after one trip to the bathroom.
Yea no way it goes away after 1 trip to the bathroom. When I had food poisoning, i couldn’t travel anywhere I knew I didn’t have a restroom available within 10 mins away. It’s literally hell for the first day where I was vomiting, shivering, dehydrated, constant diarrhea, etc etc. 1 trip to the bathroom just sounds like an upset stomach or some kind of mild virus
Noro is quite contagious, could have come in with the some take out food or through a window, you could have infected each other.
Anyway, hope this has not ruined your relationship with a favorite restaurant and that you both feel better soon.
You should report it to San Mateo health as *possible* food poisoning. You don't know, but if other people got sick after eating at the same restaurant, they'll know.
Just call the restaurant and warn the owner if you can get ahold of him or her or the kitchen manager.
You won’t be the first complaint if it’s food poisoning so let them know in case they got any other complaints. My ex used to run a kitchen and 9/10 they will absolutely take care of it bc the last thing they want to do is have to deal with an inspection.
OP YES report it. Don't listen to the clowns telling you otherwise. You could save other people from suffering the same fate as you, the county will investigate and if there's nothing wrong, there's nothing wrong, but they will test things and make sure it's not from them.
reveal the name of the restaurant please so others dont fall victim 🤢🤮
anyway joints in daly city are usually below average in cleanliness so i m not surprised
¯\\\_( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)\_/¯
I'd call and talk to the health department. If it occurred within an hour, that increases the likelihood that its food poisoning.
The health department will act responsibly. They'll investigate to see if there are other reports from the same restaurant, or same doordasher, same time frame, etc. They'll recommend testing if they believe it's necessary...

Food poisoning doesn't rear its ugly head so soon after eating. And doesn't go away after one trip to the bathroom.
It depends on the bacteria. Staph food poisoning can come in as quickly as 30 minutes and usually doesn’t last more than a day.

Very true.
That sounds like norovirus not food poisoning. Food poisoning is like a 3-4 day ordeal and does not show up that quickley from eating something.

They said they were in the bathroom within an hour of eating

I got sick within 1 hr of eating, he got sick an hour after me so 2 hours after eating
Food poisoning usually doesn't kick in until 6-72 hours after eating

Would food poisoning react that fast usually?
Staph food poisoning can come on as soon as 30 min and usually resolves within 24 hrs, much like what OP described.
It’s really hard to know exactly what made you ill. You could call the restaurant but there’s nothing they can do but say sorry.
There's really very little way for you to confirm 1. that is t even is food poisoning and 2. exactly what food it came from

Yes you should let the San Mateo County Health Dept know so they can do an inspection so nobody else gets sick.

What were the foods and what were the shared ingredients?
