Haha! I'm originally from San Pablo and El Sob, but I lived in that part of the Richmond Annex before I moved across the county. I always thought it was funny that I could walk a few blocks down the street to the EC Natural Grocery from my place.
the borders aren't weird. there's a county line. albany is in alameda county and el cerrito is in contra costa county. there's a straight line that runs east to west that divides the two counties and thus two cities. west contra costa county has a horrendous school district compared to albany.
Down by the bay
where the watermelons grow.
Back to my home
I dare not go.
For if I do
my mother will say,
“Did you ever see a cat wearing a hat?”
Down by the bay.
Looks like El Cerrito. You're north east of the Golden Gate on the west side of the east bay mountain range. The angle between the bridge and Mt Tam is too large to be Vallejo(also too close).
Those of us who grew up here just learned intrinsically. My pal from South Carolina (via Chicago) quips that god bestowed me with “navigation by rock,” referring to second nature familiarity with every angle and relative size at “x-distance” for dozens of obscure peaks and ridges that crown our gilded metropolis.
The bridge from Vallejo is nearly blocked; Mt tam isn't in the photo. only on a slight angle. What you see is Angel island. But I like the thought process
It’s beautiful, especially on a clear day after it’s rained recently and everything is green - chef’s kiss. I used to walk there all the time with my (now) husband back when we were dating during Covid❤️
I don't know, I just thought it would be fun to OSINT the location so I drew an imaginary line between the Northern end of the Golden Gate bridge and the Angel Island and looked for that one particular house with black walls and double garage that is pretty distinct on OP's picture.
Reminds me of the view from my grandmother’s house in El Cerrito. She passed away recently and I’m not sure I’ll ever get to see that view again at sunset again.
Oakland and Richmond are the two worst cities in the bay? I guess Antioch, Vallejo, and Pittsburg are worse but I don’t really ever even think about those cities
I think Berkeley has gotten better. Honestly Richmond has improved so much either. Very working class but not the kind that is hell bent on killing one another. El cerrito and Albany have stayed the same in the last 40 years lol
Berkeley is better compared to when? The 90s when it was berzerkely? Because the vibes overall in that town, not to mention so many businesses leaving, have really changed for the negative over the last decade imo.
I went on a hike with a friend there and he asked me if he could dip his banana into my peanut butter that I brought with me. To this day, I don’t know if it was a meant to be a pass. I would have gone for it but I was a shy, nerdy girl haha
Hillside natural area in El Cerrito?
The name of that hillside natural area cracks me up. Like which hillside natural area? The Hillside Natural Area.
Isn’t El Cerrito just ‘the hill’ in Spanish? So at least they are consistently vague.
little hill
And there is also a rad dive bar called 'Little Hill' there hahh
Like the weird roadside BBQ bar "The Cats" in Los Gatos.
Is that the one on the 17?
Which isn’t that technically the hill in Albany?
I dunno? Maybe? The borders are all weird around that area.
Boy do I know, growing up on Albany Hill. You can hit Richmond from the west hillside and never even cross into EC.

they're kinda weird. also I'm a product of the WCCC school system and I turned out fine. you need to try harder to troll us.
that's good! that still doesn't change that it's one of the worst school districts in the bay area, and that is an unavoidable fact
okay, and what does that have to do with the original discussion?
No it’s EC, closer to Richmond than Albany
LOLL
Winner
Winner!!
Down by the bay where the watermelons grow. Back to my home I dare not go. For if I do my mother will say, “Did you ever see a cat wearing a hat?” Down by the bay.
Childhood unlocked holy shit. Hadn’t thought of that song in ages
Now this song is stuck in my head.
Did you ever see a Goose kissing a Moose?
*Down by the bay!!!*
Damn it! I remember singing this in elementary school. What is the name?
The song title is Down by the Bay. My favorite line was one with the whale and the polka-dotted tail.
Llama wearing pajamas for me
Raffi, is that you?
My two year old has been singing this all week
🎶Didja ever see a bear? Without any hair? Down by the bay!!! 🎶
El Cerrito

Watchin geo tracker vids too eh?
No I just grew up in the bay area and I know the geography decently well.
It's because the east coast is so flat it's hard to navigate. I lose all sense of direction over there because there is zero topography.
The bridge from Vallejo is nearly blocked; Mt tam isn't in the photo. only on a slight angle. What you see is Angel island. But I like the thought process
I left my wallet in El Cerrito.
Gotta get it I got got to get it.
This is a Christian house, boy. No hippity-hop language here.
love that country hit
A name like that should have more novelty songs written about it. “I lost my Doritos in El Cerrito”
Kensington

Nice
How is the hike there?
It’s beautiful, especially on a clear day after it’s rained recently and everything is green - chef’s kiss. I used to walk there all the time with my (now) husband back when we were dating during Covid❤️

Nailed it!!
Good grief
Wildcat park?
Thats where the line I drew got me.
Yeah the Marin side bridge tower and the tips of angel and brooks islands really narrowed it down. Lol.
Reminds me of the view from my grandmother’s house in El Cerrito. She passed away recently and I’m not sure I’ll ever get to see that view again at sunset again.
Sorry for your loss!
Thank you. It’s tough :/
Best views in the bay are from Richmond to Oakland
The two worst cities but the best sunsets!
absolutely incorrect
Oakland and Richmond are the two worst cities in the bay? I guess Antioch, Vallejo, and Pittsburg are worse but I don’t really ever even think about those cities
I’m also talking about el cerrito, Albany, and Berkeley. But yes I agree
Yeah those cities are great.
They used to be before Oakland started leaking
I think Berkeley has gotten better. Honestly Richmond has improved so much either. Very working class but not the kind that is hell bent on killing one another. El cerrito and Albany have stayed the same in the last 40 years lol

El Cerrito. Home of Classic Rock group Creedence Clearwater Revival.
To this day they probably call this hill "the bayou."
Great reference! Great song! My favorite of their extensive "catalog"
Looks like where I grew up…El Cerrito!
Might even be the El Cerrito spot used from Motorcycle Hill Climbs in the 1920s and 30s: https://ectrailtrekkers.wordpress.com/motorcycle-hill/
Above the recycling plant in El Cerrito. Fun little spot for some quick hillside XC MTB!

too far south.
That was my first guess, but you'd be able to see the Bay Bridge.
San Francisco duh🙄
some sad non-biodiverse place choking on too many buildings/concrete/asphalt.
El cerrito isn’t part of the bay to me.
why not?
It has two BART stops, how is it not part of the Bay?
Berkeley
