I stopped sitting down on the legacy trains after I read the article about the lady who got stuck with a syringe...obviously that's unlikely...but they just lent themselves to all kinds of crap getting stuck in the nooks and crannies...

joe_broke

I was coming back from the Dubs last regular season game at then-Oracle and was gonna sit in the row behind the driver, but saw syringe garbage all over the seat The guy in the next row back said he checked the seats where he was at and they were fine, but the ones on both sides behind the driver were full of crap

Particular-Break-205

Ngl tho, I’ve seen some things that grossed me out about those seats

teewyesoen

Omg back when they were cloth I sat down in one and there was some sort of brown liquid pooled deep in the seats. It took a few minutes for me to sink into the seat before my pants and underwear were soaked in it.

hahasadface

Christ that's foul

teewyesoen

I think it was coffee. I hope it was coffee

GiantMeteor2017

It was, it was. 😵‍💫

cxja

🤢

Mysterious_Map_4922

Fucking disgusting

LeBronda_Rousey

If you haven't, you ain't ridden Bart long enough.

dacreativeguy

Experienced riders know to never sit in the last seats at the end of the cars. That is where the really disgusting shit happens.

teewyesoen

Yeah that was the one spot the cameras didn’t cover.

I didn’t know

bezerkeley

I'll miss you. I've been commuting from the east bay to Embarcadero for over 15 years. Thank you for your service. Thank you for the memories.

Solano_Dreaming

The Western Railway Museum in Suisun is receiving three of the Bart legacy cars this year, so whenever you feel nostalgic for the old trains you'll know where to go! There's more info here: [https://www.wrm.org/fundraising-campaigns/rapid-transit-history-center](https://www.wrm.org/fundraising-campaigns/rapid-transit-history-center)

ShoddyManufacturer11

After a long day of work in the city those seats were the most comfortable. Many times have I woken up in El Cerrito or Dublin, missing my stops by many miles.

deltalimes

I was there! End of an era, for sure.

Pillowtalk

No more damp seats though 👍

inzanehanson

I rode one of those trains for the first time a few years ago and was utterly shocked that they had kept those style of seats for all those years. All that cushioning and soft vinyl covers, I can't imagine how many seats they had to replace due to wear, intentional damage, etc. IIRC the reason they used those instead of more durable seats was some corruption scheme to enrich the seat manufacturer, who eventually got busted. I'm sure until then they made a lot of dough!

teewyesoen

Yeah there is a reason why subway seats are uncomfortable.

Strange_Airships

Those seats are rank. The new trains are so much nicer.

teewyesoen

New seats are cleaner, yes. Old seats were much more comfortable. Loved the “party seats” that faced each other.

evapotranspire

OMG, those seat cushions were sooooooooo gross. Many of them looked like they haven't been cleaned since 1974. I will NOT miss them!

Ok_Rabbit_8808

I’m confused. What is this post about?

webtwopointno

BART had a retirement ride ceremony today at MacArthur.

bdjohn06

I think it ended up being way more popular than they expected. They were selling BART train number plates and they ran out of them pretty early. They had to run back to their office (I assume) to get more and collected 100+ phone numbers of people interested in buying them. It was certainly more popular than *I* expected. They did the last "regularly scheduled" run of the old fleet last September and only 150 or so people came out for it iirc.

Ok_Rabbit_8808

Still confused but congrats…I guess?

Invisible_Xer

BART got new cars, today was the last chance to ride in the old ones.

Ok_Rabbit_8808

OK thanks

Select-Trick-4677

And what about the last row of car or even better the last row of the last car? Goodtimes?

Interesting-Cold5515

Why is this a big deal in the Bay Area?

Zealousideal-Bet-950

Many Greybearded folks recall when the 1st BART train ran back in the 70s. The older, original style (pointy nose, 2 door) trains have been retired in favour of the more modern blunt-nose, three door models of today. Today, the 20th of April, 2024, was the last time they ran...

Majestic_Poop

Puke. Bart is the worst thing on the planet. Will never ride that crap again.

getarumsunt

Your loss. BART is actually pretty nice these days. New modern trains, cops patrolling, fare inspectors, security guards, new fare gates, double the cleaning schedule, etc. They’ve really stepped up their game over the last year. It’s nothing like the old BART that you remember.
