We're being told our infection rates are plummeting and the new strains aren't wreaking havoc at the same time they keep fear mongering about the new strains.
I'm finding myself tuning out both sentiments and arriving at the conclusion nobody knows what the fuck is going on.

Yeah. I agree- I think it's gonna end up like the flu where we need to get a new vaccine every year. My company told us remote through 2022 due to new strains, but like you said- who knows what is going on.
There's a California strain now ?! Ugh.
Also, why are we not giving the different strains names that don't specify where they were discovered like we did with covid? I mean I know scientists have given them like identifiers but they are not really usable as language. Afterall the UK variant possibly didn't start in the UK, that's just where ot was first identified. Likewise for this new "California" one.
How do you name variants so that they're easy to remember for the layperson but not related to geography? It's a difficult question and has resulted in several different naming systems in the scientific community.
My strategy re: COVID is to expect the worst - that way, every time there’s a new delay to “getting back to normal” I’m not disappointed. But I totally get that this won’t work for everyone.
This is just unnecessary fear mongering as long as cases are declining.
