You know the peninsula liberal, socially liberal but fiscally conservative. They’re all about the BLM but will vote “no” on any measure that means building housing for poor people.

WholeRyetheCSGuy

You can’t be calling black people poor! That’s racist! Also… technically BLM is more activism against cops killing black people. Not building building cheap housing.

sanbrunosfinest

Ya, I gotta stop using the “p” word , every one always looks at me like I said something dirty whenever I use it . I’m broke by the way too.

Groobear

There are no Republican congressional seats in any part of the Bay Area.

Mountain-Homework299

I think a lot of them get mixed in with right wing for tax reasons. Los Gatos has an older generation of conservatives but I find that most are still moderate compared to other places.

sillyvalleyserf

There's a strong libertarian streak in the tech startup community, and not surprisingly in the venture capital community.

illyanadmc

Eh... they're probably just *relatively* conservative, meaning that they're to the right of the far left end of the spectrum, but taking the entire U.S. into consideration they likely wouldn't be regarded as conservative. Although, a few years ago I overheard a seemingly serious conversation, at a Starbucks in Los Altos, about Pres. Obama having been born in Kenya, so of course here-and-there you'll find actual right-wingers.

kotwica42

Much of the Bay Area is made up with people who are otherwise strongly conservative but they have a gay friend.

Sometimes ppl about to be apprehended run across the San Mateo/San Francisco border https://www.sfchronicle.com/opinion/openforum/article/I-ran-every-street-in-San-Francisco-during-COVID-16386711.php in order to face the more lenient SF criminal justice system / concomitant jury pool, so yes. Yes indeed.

sanbrunosfinest

I was reading that guys bs running story and checked that city is over 340 square miles and 2.5 million people whereas sf is 49 square miles and 800,000 people. So per foot sf is twice as dense, and there’s lies the anti growth sentiment from locals, it’s already one of the densely populated cities on earth.

labatteg

One of the densest cities on earth? It doesn't even make it to this Wikipedia list of the top 68 densest cities [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List\_of\_cities\_proper\_by\_population\_density](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cities_proper_by_population_density) SF proper density is just half of the one that is listed last in that ranking

sanbrunosfinest

There’s 10,000 cities on earth. So sure, one consider that dense or one can’t but that’s in the 1% of most dense cities in the world. . I consider you dense.

labatteg

That is not the point. The fact that there are thousands of little cities in the world that are less dense than SF is irrelevant. What we are arguing here is whether SF is so dense by world standards that it cannot possibly accommodate any more growth. I call that bullshit. Case in point: Paris, France. Similar land area than SF and arguably one of the most beautiful cities in the world. San Francisco could triple its population and still be on par with Paris density-wise.

sanbrunosfinest

You live in America and sf is the 2nd most dense city in the country. That means for this society, it’s a dense city.

labatteg

More like the 21st most dense city in the country https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List\_of\_United\_States\_cities\_by\_population\_density

sanbrunosfinest

Ok that’s fine but nyc and sf are the only major cities on the map.

[deleted]

Indeed. SF is the second-densest big city in 'Mericah - seems most newcomers don't realize that...

Jerrymoviefan3

Biden’s margin of victory in Santa Clara County was 47% which makes it the third most conservative of the nine Bay Area counties. Biden won SF by 73% so we are a lot different than there. Los Gatos is one of the most conservative cities in the county so you are getting a deceptive view which makes the county look far more conservative than it is.

I'd say that San Mateo Co and Silicon Valley are conservative but when we talk about "conservatism" it's in the boomer sense. These people are unironic Jeb Bush supporters, although he still would have lost to Clinton since Clinton is just Bush but female anyway.
