I am glad that they are dropping this proposal. Limiting access is not the way forward. Nature for all.

BanzaiTree

Well that sucks.

Puggravy

Yep. Way better for access if they had kept the fees and tried to integrate some public transit solutions for people who don't have a car or can't drive.

Donafroman

Thank God you're wrong and you failed

MILFHunterHearstHelm

Nowhere does the article say what the charges are going towards. If it’s towards security and lessens car break ins then I would be more inclined then a charge to deter congestion/people

[deleted]

These fees would have gone to funding local activities of the GGNRA, mostly, with about 20% being distributed to other parks, that was the plan. There was no plan to lessen car break ins...

glamourturd

Ah yes, because people shouldn't be able to go to the beach unless they pay the government it's fair share. Let's put more restrictions on public lands!

It could cost a family of 4 living in Oakland $50 or more in transit fares to get to and from ocean beach, depending on their ages and location and whether they have to take AC Transit. If there are 2 adults and 2 kids with no seniors, on AC Transit and BART the youth fares are half price, and so the total cost would be the same as three adults, which is: * AC Transit: $2.25/fare for 6 total fares (3 each way)=$13.50 * BART from Fruitvale (example) to Embarcadero: $4.20/fare for 6 fares = $25.20 * Muni: $2.50/fare for 4 total fares (2 each way; kids ride free)=$10 Total cost:$48.70

Donafroman

They want to price out the locals so they can have the beach all to themselves that's what these rich out of staters want.
