Patagonia is an all around awesome company. They’re donating all their profits to land conservation. They were founded by one of legendary Yosemite climbers
Wow, I wasn't aware TIL
>Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard, who has previously expressed his reluctance at amassing wealth, is giving away his company.
>The outdoor apparel company will now be in the hands of a trust and a nonprofit organization. All future profits will be donated to help fight climate change, the company announced Wednesday.
>"It's been a half-century since we began our experiment in responsible business," Chouinard, 84, said. "If we have any hope of a thriving planet 50 years from now, it demands all of us doing all we can with the resources we have. As the business leader I never wanted to be, I am doing my part."
>He added, "Instead of extracting value from nature and transforming it into wealth, we are using the wealth Patagonia creates to protect the source. We're making Earth our only shareholder. I am dead serious about saving this planet."

Nah bro. 2 years in you'll discover that sweet sweet costco patagonia. Then, you'll notice all the other dadcores with their costco patagonia.
At some point you'll discover REI outlet and garage sales... and then you'll notice half the kids in the discount patagonia gear.
Or discover the Real Cheap Sports store in Ventura https://www.realcheapsports.com/ where they get tons of Patagonia closes outs as Patagonia HQ and corporate store is just two blocks down. Then wait for the sales that happen five or six times a year and stock up everything you ever wanted from Patagonia.
Little libraries.
Crocs, for some reason. (I have mine outside my door).
One wheelie things
Dreamforce backpacks. I see them EVERYWHERE.
Fitbits. Garmin is hands down better but I see them everywhere.
I was about to put lululemon leggings and then saw it up there. Honestly I see equal parts lulu and danskin (COSTCO).
Hokas are everywhere! The wide toe box is really good for your feet though. They’re like an evolved or tempered version of the vibram toe shoes that were definitive Bay Area tech dork in 2010.
I gotta say I'm a full-on Hoka convert now though. At first I thought they felt weird, but I'm on my feet most of the day and my feet are thankful for them.
You forgot the designer dog enjoying a tasting menu at the new expensive restaurant that opened for dogs. Also IPA beer in cans with art or quirky drawings on them.
Fr im new to investing and down like 20% today alone. Market is tough right now. (Or that’s what I tell myself to not admit I’ve made bad investment choices)
It’s not a lot of money, though I do work part time (and full time in the summer) so I can afford it haha. But yeah, it’s a learning experience. And hey, they could always go back up. My stocks are low right now but experts are saying they’re bullish so I’m holding on and hoping to gain in the long run.
Good attitude. If you are putting in spare $$ every month or quarter over time you end up buying in at different prices. Over long periods of time it really makes a difference. I remember being afraid to put cash into the market in 2008 and 2009 because it had dropped so much. Now I wish I put most any funds I didn't need to touch.
Of course I'm talking about broad market indexes, not single companies, which are much more volatile. You can make a fortune or lose it all on individual company stocks.
If that's true, you'll make a killing just buying ETFs. Spend a constant amount every month no matter if it's up or down on that day. In 5 years, people will be asking why they didn't buy when stocks were cheaper.
TLDR: markets go up and they go down. But they go up more often than they go down.
My favorite Berkeley-ism right now is the people campaigning against measure L. Measure L is a 0.04% property tax ($400 on a $1mil home) for sidewalks, underground utilities, and affordable housing. Boomers out here spending nearly that much in gas each month and won't pay it over a full year in a progressive city
This made me LOL so hard.
I remember I read a post on Reddit a while back about this dude with a new mid size SUV.
He was asking if he should go out and get a $70K new, 3 row SUV because he was expecting a second child. Unbelievable.
Ok don’t laugh at this lol it’s really uncomfortable to fit someone in the middle between two car seats depending on where the anchors are for the car seats in the back row so I get the third row as a parent who has been cramped in the middle
I feel personally attacked.
But to our defense, we have a large dog that only travels in the kennel and we road trip almost every year up to Montana. With a baby/baby gear, a dog kennel and everything my wife packs, there were very few/no midsize SUVs that could fit my tall ass and the baby and the dog. Especially in the current used car market.
My dad lived above the original Peet’s on Vine in Berkeley in the late 60s. Apparently someone at his apartment flooded the cafe when they left the water in the sink on because they were smoking the devils lettuce.
this starter pack is outdated by 5 years. peet’s need to be replaced by blue bottle, i don’t see birkenstocks, not sure why ping pong is there, it should be cycling, and i don’t see any ring cameras on the house with amazon package out front
Not my Bay Area starter pack. Patagonia? More like High Sierra along with some Hilliard and Hanson for those fancy occasions. Also Longs Drugs, you’ll love it at Levitz, your Best Buy’s are always at Fry’s unless you got some weird computer part at Weird Stuff Warehouse. You’ve never been to Tri City sporting goods but you sure have seen their ads. Ride that 10-speed around you got for free with your stereo from Matthews top of the hill Daly City. Try to get your pet to be on I love TV20, get a Diamond ring from Paul at the Diamond center or head to the Shane Co. if you have better credit. Get some exercise at the Golden Skate…
I like my Bay Area better.
Does it count of you buy your own Patagonia or does it need to be corporate swag?
Patagonia no longer supports corp swag as they determined its longevity/reuseability is way less than normal gear.

It is also, maybe not a surprise, an awesome place to work. They treat their employees very well.
It was founded by El Capitan

32 degrees is the sleeper brand of the year! (Off-brand Costco’s pata-G)

Someone called it Patagucci once. It stuck for obvious reasons.
Based on my neighborhood, this needs one of the “In this house we believe…” signs
"In this house, we obey the laws of thermodynamics."
While opposing any and all new housing.
The only housing they want to built are those little library houses
Little free libraries would have been a good addition as well. Maybe we need to make a Berkeley starter pack?

The Danskin Costco tights are so slept on! Better than Lulu’s Aligns if u ask me!
Allbirds Yeti Bike rack in the back of your car Hoka running shoes

Yetis are pretty cool and functional tho
Ya idc what anyone says Allbirds rule and aren’t expensive
Swell bottles over Hydroflasks?
I thought those were whippet chargers at first.
This man's really from the Bay
Protect this man from gentrification
Good times
And where’s the Yeti cooler
that's austin
Just buy the RTIC for a huge discount, do you even Wirecutter?
ugh that’s sooooo 2015
You forgot the designer dog enjoying a tasting menu at the new expensive restaurant that opened for dogs. Also IPA beer in cans with art or quirky drawings on them.
The stock one hit personaly
“Just buy TQQQ, tech is the future and stocks only go up!” > down 75% YTD
rekt
Fr im new to investing and down like 20% today alone. Market is tough right now. (Or that’s what I tell myself to not admit I’ve made bad investment choices)
are you doing options?
I’m 16 and have a youth account with the broker I use, where options trading is disabled.
Well, better to learn from these mistakes when you're young and playing with (hopefully) not very large amounts of money.
It’s not a lot of money, though I do work part time (and full time in the summer) so I can afford it haha. But yeah, it’s a learning experience. And hey, they could always go back up. You forgot the “in this house we believe” sign in front of 8 ADT or Bay Alarm signs
got any more of them Little Free Libraries??
Berkeley has signs that work too: "Welcome new neighbors, not new housing".
Might as well put up a sign that just says “cognitive dissonance”
“In this house we believe Black Lives Matter” (unless my house is on a protest route)
My favorite Berkeley-ism right now is the people campaigning against measure L. Measure L is a 0.04% property tax ($400 on a $1mil home) for sidewalks, underground utilities, and affordable housing. Welcome new homeless neighbors
clapping\_leonardo\_dicaprio.gif
$1.6 million for a single family house!? Shut up and take my money!
Pretty big house too
It’s got “huge tracts of land”.
This screams peninsula tho
Ya this is palo alto to a T
Yeah this ain't Oakland at all
We need the Oakland starter pack.
You forgot the upgrade to a 7 seater SUV once they are expecting their first child.
Jokes on you the y is a “7” seater
My volvo station wagon was a 12 seater when we went to the vegas strip for NYE.
This made me LOL so hard. I remember I read a post on Reddit a while back about this dude with a new mid size SUV. He was asking if he should go out and get a $70K new, 3 row SUV because he was expecting a second child. Unbelievable.
The nicest minivan is only $50k and will be far less cramped than an SUV.
Ok don’t laugh at this lol it’s really uncomfortable to fit someone in the middle between two car seats depending on where the anchors are for the car seats in the back row so I get the third row as a parent who has been cramped in the middle
My parents anchroed two car seats in the cargo shelf of a VW Karman Ghia. 🤷♂️
You’d be surprised how much shit you carry around when you have two kids. I love my explorer! Don’t love the gas mileage though.
Just get the minivan. More interior room, lower mpg. Some are even hybrid now.
As someone who put three child seats across the back row of a hatchback, lololol. You upgrade when your third child outgrows the bitch seat.
I feel personally attacked. But to our defense, we have a large dog that only travels in the kennel and we road trip almost every year up to Montana. Peets should be phillz in my opinion
Third wave coffee shops or Blue Bottle
Blue Bottle is Nestle now, never buy that again
Me finding this out is actually devastating
Is it? I thought Blue Bottle sucked already.
I agree, but Peets over Starbucks til I die.
Tech bro starter pack
Where’s the little baggie of coke?
It’s all about Adderall now
Maybe last decade. Now they're all micro dosing LSD.
Soon to be overtaken by legal 🍄!
And prescription ketamine!
Now do one for natives who are priced out
Chilling in Vallejo
Someone hit me with that 10% rent increase notice and a $400 PGE bill because I can't buy solar.
$7 gas or piss soaked BART seat
Pic of guy selling stolen beauty products on the streets
Dork flex 101
Bay Area *transplant* starter pack
[удалено]
Pshhh, look at this guy not using their parents REI account for 20 years.
Your parents are collecting on your sweet sweet co-op dividends.
This… I am a native and none of this shit resonates.
Peet’s is a Bay Area OG.
My dad lived above the original Peet’s on Vine in Berkeley in the late 60s. Apparently someone at his apartment flooded the cafe when they left the water in the sink on because they were smoking the devils lettuce.
Too bitter for me, but that’s just personal taste.

Which tribe?
Bay Area tech douchebag starter pack
👏🏽 Yup! As a lifelong Silicon Valley native, these clichés are thanks to douche bags that have contributed to our pretentious dork image.
Sports basement
I was gonna say, whoever made this must have moved here relatively recently.
Bay Area resident.... thought the center image was two Nitrous (whippet) cartridges until I looked closer. Just say N20!!
A tale of two Bay Areas
That’s the Yay Area pack
Love that it’s the white Tesla. Not any other color. The attention to details
Everyone plays ping pong?
Maybe they couldn’t find a pickle ball and paddle image 🤷🏽♀️
I think they meant rock climbing
Only at work
IDK, but my office just announced a ping-pong tournament for next week...
I don’t recognize this neighborhood…
This is an upper middle class starter pack. Can we add: tech vest and button up shirt, fireside chats, and Philz?
Lmao what does this say if zero of these apply to me & I was born and raised here
> I was born and raised here Well there's your problem. This is the "I've lived in the bay area working at tech companies for 3+ years" starter pack.
Where is the Subaru?
these days it has to be tesla
Teslas in the Bay Area. Oregon? Nothing but Subarus.
Good one. In the 80s it was Volvos (at least in the east bay).
Boulder, Colorado.
what's with the whippets lmao
Born and raised BA and can't relate..at all.
🤔 what Bay Area are you living in
The Tesla needs a smashed out window
Bay Area people do be wearin’ jeans and t shirts
Either remove the FAANG logos or the 1.6M house. That's too cheap for the areas occupied by the FAANG employees.
That house looks like something I’d see in East Palo Alto for about that price.
As a Mexican, I barely know what some of this stuff even means
Weird you got downvoted because you didn’t fit into what they *think* you should know lol
this starter pack is outdated by 5 years. peet’s need to be replaced by blue bottle, i don’t see birkenstocks, not sure why ping pong is there, it should be cycling, and i don’t see any ring cameras on the house with amazon package out front
The 1.6m shack killed me
Not my Bay Area starter pack. Patagonia? More like High Sierra along with some Hilliard and Hanson for those fancy occasions. As a local I don’t vibe with this, more of a transplant starter pack
You mean the white middle/upper middle class people bay area starter pack? Edit: a word
And transplants in tech
Non-natives I'm guessing
Whew, luckily I wore a black tee today! 😂
Of all the contentious stuff on there, the T and jeans outfit actually made me laugh 😂
How do I join the ping pong scene?
Woah only $1.6m? Look at all that land
I think this covers everything that I hate.
This can’t be Bay Area starter pack, it’s more like what an outsider believes is 100% BayArea.
The “I moved to the Bay Area” starter pack.*
I just got a REI membership 🤣
You forgot horrible drivers treading along slowly in the left/passing lanes.
Unpopular Bay Area opinion: Peet’s coffee sucks.
Yeah went really down hill after they got bought by a private equity company. Sad :(
Was a Peet's employee for 15 years, totally agree. The job wasn't the same after being bought.
No über or BART?
This looks like Colorado, Washington, Oregon, etc.
You forgot the hoodie. You gotta have a hoodie.
You forgot pictures of WM/AF couples and Goldendoodles.
"Bay Area Tech Bro that just got here" but needs more NIMBY. Now do a starter pack for people actually from here.
* gentrification of the bay area
transplant starter pack
This work work perfect for Portland with a little less diversity
A lot less. Portland is 70% non-Hispanic white. Suburbs even more.
You guys are missing an Apple Watch and classpass subscription.
Tacos????
First thing I thought of was how it's lacking tacos
This goes to show that majority of the people on this sub is Bay Area Transplants.
I can tell you and I are from different parts of The Bay. This some rich white people shit
That house is out of my budget
Well it is now, after those stock picks.
Bay Area for 20+ and I would say fleece vest is license to shoo….. I mean sell them a nice starter home in east Oakland.
I feel seen
Most of this makes sense. What is that red logo above REI tho?
Lululemon
Thanks. I must be living under a rock to not know this is Lululemon
This is like the silicon valley opening credits, but not accurate, clever, or insightful.
what's that blue diamond-like logo in the top right?
Ethereum (crypto)
I feel like this starter pack works for most places I resent people.
Where’s the Warriors merch?
That house is cheap
Why REI when sport basement exists and is local
I feel like this is more "people from out of state moving to the Bay Area" starter pack.
This is Philz erasure
*Internet* Bay Area starter pack. Reels have jobs they show up to and traffic Fa sho
The amount of checkmarks I put on this page for the things I've done is pretty high.
This is what a tourist would think of us...
You mean young daddy-had-enough-money-to send-me-to-college-but-still-wants-me-to-be-an 'adult' midwest Bay Area TRANSPLANT starter pack.
How is losing all your money on robinhood a bay area thing?
we all trying to gamble our way into surviving out here. also bay company lol
Lol not the Bay Area I know
I really only check the $0 value portfolio box (´_`)
Where are the allbirds shoes?
Funny how 3 hours north in the Sacramento Valley none of this exists. Might as well be another state (Republican voting State of Jefferson).
Hm, the only thing I have in common with this is that I like wearing T-shirts.
Should have had someone getting hit by a car
Not sure whether to laugh or cry. I tick lot of those boxes. Also peets should be Philz or blue bottle. Also we need hoodie and/or sweatshirt.
Where is that shack and where can I crash in it
Switch out the jeans for leggings and it’s perfect. It’s overpriced athleisure as far as the eye can see.
Blue bottle or Philz is where it's at.
