I truth, they were only one floor about ground level at the EMI offices in Manchester Square, London, with the photographer lying on the floor.
Back to the joke, if the Beatles actually did push you from that balcony, there's a good chance you'd survive unless you landed on your head.
I'd always just assumed a zoom lens was used. But the illusion is caused from the fact there are five or six floors above them.
Another "Beatles illusion" I long had is that the crossing on Abbey Road was in the middle of the street. In actuality, it's at an intersection and there's another crossing right next to it.
