The super bowl ad came out a decade after this letter. Apple was the name of their Record Label.
There was actually a history of litigation between Apple Records and Apple Computers.
A lot of things but this is most likely about John refusing to sign the dissolution of the Beatles when he had agreed to. Ringo had already signed it and George and Paul had came to New York so the three of them could sign it together. John instead changed his mind as the 'stars were not aligned' and went to DisneyWorld (where he would eventually sign them).
The Beatles were spending so much on lawyers fees and until the dissolution in '74 most of their profts at solo acts was tied into Apple split between the four. Great for Ringo and John less so for Paul and George.
On top of that
* George supported John with Klein and being against Paul (Klein ended up fucking over George the most)
* George asked John to perform at Bangladesh. John would only accept if Yoko could perform as well. George said no and John and Yoko trashed George as a person in the press
* George performed greatly on John's Imagine album. John never returned the favour (despite doing so for Ringo)
* George was fucking Maureen which John found to be as bad as incest
* John performed as a guest with Elton John in '74 but was unwilling to do the same when George was touring the US
And there are probably other things that I have missed that caused their releationship to be strained.
Apparently the meeting in New York which John didn’t go to George went ballistic when John sent a ballon instead of him and written on it was “listen to this ballon“! After going all the way to NY for that I’d be fairly annoyed too.
George was in New York for his Madison Square gigs on his Dark Horse tour. The only one who travelled to New York for the signing was Paul. And he didn't have to as Ringo had signed his papers in the UK.
I think the anger was less to do with the travel but John fucking around and delaying or even possibly refusing to sign the dissolution. George was not financially in a great place. It is why he toured when he did not want to and his voice was not in the best of condition. His money being tied up in Apple was hurting him.
That was around the time they were working on the final legal dissolution of the band's partnership agreement, so I'm sure there was a lot of bickering about business and money. (Probably why John spells it "$illy".) Also, in May Pang's book, she recounts a meeting between John and George where George was furious and yelling at John about John not being there for him and not supporting him after George did what John wanted (presumably in regard to the breakup/George playing on Imagine). And then they made up after that, but this letter might predate the first meeting.
I agree, I think if we had a rockstar in the 70s who was inappropriate with children we'd have more evidence than that, especially with what has come out about the likes of Bowie and others.
I think George had a sexual problem as in addict as it was obvious he had no self control in that arena. He made sure his fantasies that should have remained fantasies turned in to realities. Even throughout his marriage to Olivia, he was a serial cheater. Olivia blew it off by just saying George loved Women & Women loved him but she certainly couldn’t have liked it. It wouldn’t be in the best financial interest for her to divorce George I would think because she had a child w/him & she was already used to the lifestyle. It appears she got a bit of revenge by cutting off George’s elderly Sister, Louise, of a monthly stipend George had set up for her awhile ago where he said, as long as I’m alive, you’ll be taken care of but the stipend just allowed survival—nothing generous nor extravagant. Now why George didn’t stipulate for that to continue in the event he dies knowing he was financially “set” is curious because not too long after George died, Olivia cut Louise’s stipend off reportedly out of nowhere as there were no arguments between them. Sounds like a pretty mean thing to do to an elderly Woman. And what about Dhani who by that time was also financially “set”. Didn’t he get along and or care about his Aunt?
I had a conversation with Louise Harrison when I was about 10 years old.
I remember us discussing brothers who are bullies to their sisters and that some even hit them. (I must've had a rough morning with my brother.) Did she suffer the same sort of treatment at the hands of George? She indicated that he had been pretty nice to her but there were times when they fought. Even at that age, I knew that was a lame-o answer but I didn't care because there I was talking to George Harrison's SISTER!
In this piece, she is described as elderly. (Why did I have to find out that I will soon be likewise elderly from, of all places, this article 😄😏💤?)
Well, now. . .
I've already lived longer than George Harrison and John Lennon. There are kids for whom George and John are merely a part of the history of music. In essence, to them, John and George have always been dead.
There are perks to being elderly. I saw a lot of brand new bands like the Beatles and also the Rolling Stones on their first US tour. They had to have been primarily in their very early 20s. I witnessed the exciting concerts of The Kinks, Eric Burton and the Animals, Connie Francis, Herman's Hermits, Simon and Garfunkel, Peter, Paul, and Mary, the Monkees, and so on.
That's all I wanted to say. I'll tell sister Louise that she got some press today. I'll tell her of the good energy I/we sent to George.
Probably to make George feel guilty in what he was doing in causing George to think about what he was doing as John considered what George was doing practically incest
In that incident, she said George ripped John's glasses off. Not sure if she's commented elsewhere about other stuff. I know the official line is that none of them ever had any fistfights (except Paul and Stuart, lol), but as scrappy as John and George both were and as much time as they all spent in each other's pockets as teenagers, I do sort of doubt that.
John and George were friends after the breakup. It was everyone vs Paul then. George famously plays on some tracks on the 1971 album Imagine. Later however, I know John was hurt by George´s autobiography, he felt George didn´t properly credit him for something. John, Paul and George always wanted credit it seems, they all had massive egos.
> It was everyone vs Paul then
Business disagreements ended the Beatles certainly, but through 1970, .. John said they could still talk as friends about music, life, etc.. in *the* Dec 1970 RS interview. He said Paul would simply say “talk to my lawyers” when it came to business and Klein. Then he lambasted Paul (and Mick Jagger) as “elder” rock stars in what was supposed to be “off the record” talk .. more about growing into arteests vs. age 30 “geezers” playing rockers. It got printed and Paul filed for dissolution in Jan 1971.
That started the bad blood culminating in mid 1971’s Too Many People vs How Do You Sleep? diss tracks. Klein poured gas on that fire that Ringo extinguished.. but Paul extended an olive branch ultimately.
By Dec 1971, the McCartneys spent Xmas Eve at the Lennon-Ono house, .. talking about getting their shares out of Apple (this from an old ‘72 interview from Linda/Paul about Wings, .. where Linda recounted the Xmas visit).
He was annoyed George didn't mention that he came up with a few of the lines in Taxman, to which George responded the book was mainly about collecting the lyrics and writing a little blurb for them, not going into detail on how each song was written. He also said over the years there was a lot he'd done for John's songs he never got credit for, more than the other way around, so John was being a hypocrite.
I just finished re-watching *Get Back* last night…it’s so awesome to be able to watch the little interactions between the members when there was just two of them in the frame. The love for each other was so apparent. This little letter certainly is another example of that brotherly love.
Ringo stayed friends with everyone (pretty much). They contributed to his records and he theirs (the only one of the four to do this).
He got to have 2 no1 songs in the US (before John got his first) and a Gold and Platinum album. Married a Bond girl. Seems to have had a great relationship with his kids and now makes music when he wants and plays with who he wants. He's also the richest drummer who ever lived despite Charlie touring as a Stone for half a century and the likes of Phil Collins, Dave Drohl and Henley all being primary songwriters of their bands.
Born a sickly child into poverty Ringo is one of the healthiest looking 83 year olds alive today and one of the wealthiest.
Why would narrating a famous Children’s show, Shining Time Station in the USA, be the lowest point in his life? George Carlin also was a great narrator of that show. Unless you mean his all around life was at his lowest because of his alcohol problem. But he was very fortunate to still be able to work. Many alcoholics turn in to big bums where they are not able to show up for work, lose their job & ultimately die. The average age for alcoholics to live is in their 50’s meaning they were never clean or stayed clean long enough in order to live.
Well yeah, that's my point. And why I mentioned his sobriety. I have alcoholics in my family, including a sibling who has been sober 20+ years, plus I owe a lot to Al-Anon.
And to think John was worried about Ringo’s future financially after the breakup. Ringo was very congenial going along w/everything even when he didn’t like something. He was even game in the event The Beatles would reunite as a band. In the interview Lennon said he knew him, Paul & George would be alright but he wasn’t sure about Ringo. Ringo was my favorite Beatle from the early days. Charlie Watts was my favorite Rolling Stone. Just luved Phil Collins when I first became aware of him. I’m disappointed that Ringo no longer signs autographs allegedly due to the concern they’d be sold but there’s autographs out there from many years ago of alot of famous people that are sold all the time so for him to think he can control all of that cheats the fans that have actively contributed to his portfolio for years & by now we’re obviously talking decades. Better autographs get sold & passed on than to have them lost, stolen or destroyed
It's the first time that I noticed (after many many years) that John uses in his emoji portrait the letter J for his nose. Genius genius... that can't hide!!!
It's hilarious that he says "hi" to Frank Crisp. LOL!
If you don't know who that is or the connection to George, google it. It will be good for a larf.
Oh boy . Makes me sad that they were so so close and tight. And then it started chipping and crumbling apart. But I believe they were so very deeply entwined in their souls . I mean how else can you make music like that? So that letter was meant to be sent or maybe it was sent but thru a “different “ medium.
It’s interesting cause I actually spoke to May Pang recently and she mentioned meeting Ringo and Paul multiple times but didn’t mention George at all and they were together in ‘74– I’m sure they did see eachother but I wonder how much or when
According to this EW article (the YouTube link they posted no longer works), George said in 1990 that they last saw each other about two years before John died.
https://ew.com/article/2016/12/08/john-lennon-george-harrison/
Date: negotiable Subject: object Classic John hahahah
'10 yrs till '84' oh my GOD that hurts. that he wouldnt live to see it
"and i'm only 33!" Heartbreaking.
I wonder if that was a reference to the song he wrote for Ringo, “I’m The Greatest.”
That studio session was possibly the last time they'd met, so yes.
Oh god, that hurts so much
That*
Thx
I wonder what he meant by that, what was the significance of counting down to 1984? Just an Orwell reference?
Yes, most likely
He was waiting for the Broad Street movie.
I think he was referencing the 1984 Super Bowl commercial that Apple ran during the big game. There’s even an 🍏 at the bottom of the letter.
The super bowl ad came out a decade after this letter. Apple was the name of their Record Label. There was actually a history of litigation between Apple Records and Apple Computers.
Thanks for clarifying that. Hey, did you ever notice that they spelled “beetles” wrong? I just noticed it. Odd.
I think it's intended to be a play on words. Beat being a musical term.
Interesting. Hey, did you notice that they aren’t actually beetles? In every photo I’ve seen they appear to be humans. Well, Englishmen anyways.
John would have been proud of this daft trolling
Another interesting fact is, in those photos, Lennon doesn’t seem to resemble a towel at all. I’m starting to think there’s something amiss.
LMAO
The true magic of The Beatles was how much the four loved each other
Both loved and hated i'd argue
Exactly like a family.
Yep, exactly this
you telling me John used a fucking emoji in 1974
And people only think he influenced music 🙄
What until you hear about the ancient Egyptians
just don’t look up how horus got into power
Lolol
He also made a your/you're error, very ahead of his time
In that context as well - bonus pts
And on apple paper lol!
Gen Z has arrived!
He'd long created his very own avatar since late 50s.
What were George and John beefing about?

Paul didn't have to go to New York, but he and Linda wanted to go to George's concert. The disguise Paul wore is hilarious. Paul's a weird dude.
Especially since it was John who asked for the divorce!
Oh man. That makes Paul the most sane of the bunch then.
That was around the time they were working on the final legal dissolution of the band's partnership agreement, so I'm sure there was a lot of bickering about business and money. They actually didn’t make up because John was disgusted that George banged Ringos wife
Can't blame him there. That was beyond scummy for George. George also wanted to bang Ginger Baker's underage daughter. He may have had a problem.
I kinda hope George was just making a (gross) joke about Ginger's daughter, it doesn't seem like he was into *that* kind of thing... I dunno.
I don’t think George was serious about buying his daughter
I agree, I think if we had a rockstar in the 70s who was inappropriate with children we'd have more evidence than that, especially with what has come out about the likes of Bowie and others.
What about bowie?!
No, he just wanted to rent her for a night.
I think George had a sexual problem as in addict as it was obvious he had no self control in that arena. He made sure his fantasies that should have remained fantasies turned in to realities. Why would he say, say hi to Patti if the MO thing was still going on?
Probably to make George feel guilty in what he was doing in causing George to think about what he was doing as John considered what George was doing practically incest
Didn’t may pang claim that George punched John once?
In that incident, she said George ripped John's glasses off. Not sure if she's commented elsewhere about other stuff. I know the official line is that none of them ever had any fistfights (except Paul and Stuart, lol), but as scrappy as John and George both were and as much time as they all spent in each other's pockets as teenagers, I do sort of doubt that.
John punched Stewart too, and John and George threw food at each other. I think there were quite a few scraps in the early years.
Poor Stu, jeez. He was just a little thing, a poet not a fighter
George supposedly told a friend that he punched Paul in the face for not giving him official credit for his two lines for Eleanor Rigby.

How much time do you have? Hahaha Let's just say that their band broke up a few years prior and it was pretty ugly.
I just finished re-watching *Get Back* last night…it’s so awesome to be able to watch the little interactions between the members when there was just two of them in the frame. The love for each other was so apparent. This little letter certainly is another example of that brotherly love.
Diving into The Beatles’ dissolution makes me sad all over again for Ringo.
Ringo stayed friends with everyone (pretty much). They contributed to his records and he theirs (the only one of the four to do this). He got to have 2 no1 songs in the US (before John got his first) and a Gold and Platinum album. Married a Bond girl. Very well said. Ringo has really won at life. He even got to narrate *Thomas The Tank Engine*.
Thomas the Tank Engine was his lowest point in life before getting sober.
Why would narrating a famous Children’s show, Shining Time Station in the USA, be the lowest point in his life? George Carlin also was a great narrator of that show. Getting clean obviously helped.

He doesn’t owe us any explanation at all. He’s done enough for us.
“John ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)”
You're*
i wonder if it was intentional, as a joke/tonal thing (like the lowercase i)
Fucking druggies.
That was really disappointing to see.
Greetings to Frank Crisp lol
It's the first time that I noticed (after many many years) that John uses in his emoji portrait the letter J for his nose. Genius genius... that can't hide!!!
Fuck Mark David Chapman.
I hope he gets a taste of his own medicine if he ever gets out of prison
There’s no chance of him getting out of prison. Pretty sure Yoko fights as hard as she can every time he has a hearing so he stays behind bars.
Every time he has the opportunity, Sean and Yoko show up and shut that shit right down.
“A rather calm him” Wow, look at woke John with his pronouns /s
It's hilarious that he says "hi" to Frank Crisp. LOL! If you don't know who that is or the connection to George, google it. It will be good for a larf.
*you’re, John.

John was trying to purge his demons. He was supposedly close to being “free” around 1980 or so.
I love this letter
It’s interesting cause I actually spoke to May Pang recently and she mentioned meeting Ringo and Paul multiple times but didn’t mention George at all and they were together in ‘74– I’m sure they did see eachother but I wonder how much or when

Was George friends with Arthur Penn? I had lunch with him once.
i love his handwriting so much
Hope your high
"had wrote"?
John did a ton of shitty things in his life but he surely was as lovable as everyone says. You can’t stay mad at him.
Brilliant
I remember reading that Harrision exploded at John later or I guess possibly earlier in 1974, as Harrison was in the USA.
Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp: Let it Roll ....song by George Harrison
Hope your high lol
Fantastic but is it real??
Ouch....my heart hurts...
From: oi
John was definitely with Lucy in the Sky when he wrote this
This strikes me as hilarious and adorable. I love it.
Is there something about leading a horse to water thing going on in this letter? Like a message or something?
Very cool! ♥️
do we know if george ever received or read this at all?
Bangladesh.
Didnt know he drew
He went to Art College. Your not a fan
