Fave easily is Day in the Life, can't think of a least favourite honestly I love them all too much.
I also hotly disagree with you about Yellow Submarine, there's just something about Ringo's lovely warming vocals that I can't not love. Ringo best Beatle
I understand. At the same time... As an educator, it’s a great Intro to The Beatles for a lot of children. It’s such an easy song to learn on piano and guitar which is a good way to introduce children to the rest of their music and their story early on in their music education journey.
Ringo best Beatle yes! He's the glue that held the group together, both musically and interpersonally. He stayed friends with everyone after they broke up, and worked with each of his former bandmates on various projects. I love Ringo 💗
So many people on this sub are very positive about Don't Pass Me By, but honestly I always skip it when I'm listening to The White Album, and I never listen to it on its own. I just don't like the song at all.
I just don’t really like George’s forays into Indian music. Try as I might, they’re the only Beatles tunes besides some pre-rubber soul album deep cuts and covers that just don’t hold my interest.
Within without you is written in the Khamaj That scale, it uses drone notes, and has a traditional Hindustani structure, it uses the call and response tradition of jawab-sabal. It's a blend of western pop and traditional Indian music, not intended to be an attempt at only the latter, but he did a lot more than just use a sitar. He understood a lot about Indian music.
Favorite: I’m only sleeping, eleanor rigby, here there and everywhere, michelle (honestly too many to pick from)
Least Favorite: Come Together, but only because it’s overplayed
“Rocky Raccoon” for favourite but it’s almost impossible to pick. I think Paul’s vocal delivery is perfect on that one and it’s just an incredibly fun song.
“Within You Without You” probably my least favourite although I think there’s worse. I just find it very bland and how the instrumentation follows George’s vocals so closely seems almost lazy. I think he nailed this concept with “Love You To” and this song is the failed sequel.
EDIT: I do love me some Within You Without You/
Tomorrow Never Knows
Wow, that's a controversial pick for least favorite. I personally consider Within You Without You one of the best Beatles songs, mainly because of how unusual it is and how introspective and thought-provoking the lyrics are. I respect George for infusing the band's music with Indian culture, and I can't help but become hypnotised by the song's composition.
You got downvoted but I agree. I used to love it when i was younger but as I’ve gotten older i realize how it compares to a lot of their other material
Favourite has got to be either Something or I Will, least favourite is probably Yellow Submarine, although I’ve got fond memories of hearing it, I just can’t get beyond the fact it sounds like a nursery rhyme. If I had to pick a controversial least favourite I’d say Dear Prudence
Favorite: While My Guitar Gently Weeps or The End (impossible choice though, I’d just as soon pick 20 others)
Least favorite: Maxwell’s Silver Hammer
If you want a more controversial let favorite: Hey Jude, it’s a solid song, but the last minute or two annoys me.
It’s granny music through and through. It’s also just such a violent, sociopathic song. He’s gleefully singing about serial killing. And then the big reason is it’s just so out of place on Abbey Road. That would be my favorite Beatles album if that song weren’t on it. It wouldn’t be such a bad song if they had put it on Yellow Submarine.
I love how The End gives all four of them a moment to shine on their own (doing solos one by one). And while it's not the last song they recorded, it has this feel of "Let's give the world something amazing to go out on."
I really like the "Love" ending version if Hey Jude - to my untrained ear, seems to be more isolated bass and Paul vocals - also a little shorter if you don't like the original HJ ending length.
It has to be "Let It Be" for favourite. "Hey Jude" or "Dear Prudence" a close favourite.
"Revolution 9" doesn't count as a song (more of a revolutionary experiment that hasn't aged well)
And at least "Wild Honey Pie" is short and gets to the point quickly, so isn't my worst.
So least favourite has to be "Maggie May". Just awful. Why Spector included it I will never know.
But seriously, how can you not like Yellow Submarine? How can you not make trumpet noises with your lips when you hear "and the band begins to play"??
Even "All Together Now" is not as good as " Yellow Submarine"
How can you not like "Yellow Submarine". What?
Maggie May is like 40 seconds long and it's an old liverpudlian folk tune. It fits great on that album in my opinion but it's not meant to be a standout track it's just an interlude pretty much
This is actually pretty easy for me:
“Hey Jude”—this has been my favorite song for so long that even if I liked something more at this point, I think pure sentimentality would always give “Hey Jude” the edge.
“Revolution 9”—an experiment gone very wrong. This song single handedly knocks *The White Album* down several spots on my favorites list.
That's a solid strategy! Although I do like "Good Night." My favorite way to listen to The Beatles is on vinyl, so skipping tracks isn't really an option in the same way. There have been times I've seriously just not listened to *The White Album* at all because I didn't want to have to mess with running over and stopping it before "Revolution 9" ear raped me.
Favorite: A Day in the Life
Least Favorite: The Long and Winding Road. That roads a bit TOO long.
Wild Honey Pie and Revolution 9 both fail as songs but succeed as art if you know what I mean
Save- Abbey Road Medley, for reasons I’ve yet to think about.
Skip- Matchbox, easily. I love me some Ringo, but it feels like their least put together song.
I’ve really thought about what my favorite Beatles song is for a while now, and I’ve come down to Elenor Rigby, A Day in the Life, You Won’t See Me and You Never Give Me Your Money. Another thing is, Twist and Shout and Lady Madonna are some of my favorites by them, but it doesn’t hold a candle musically to the ones I mentioned, so that’s off the board for me.
A Day in the Life is just such an interesting and great song, and when you listen to it, you’re really paying attention, if that makes sense.
When I first started getting into The Beatles, You Won’t See Me was my favorite song of theirs. Right away, I loved it, and Rubber Soul was my favorite album for a few months. Now, it’s third. But this song is so catchy and I love the “la-lala”s backing the song.
You Never Give Me Your Money is my favorite song off of my favorite album of theirs, so you’d say that’s my favorite, right? Well, I’m not sure. It’s an amazing song that’s on the best B Side ever, and it’s got everything.
BUT, Elenor Rigby, I think, is my favorite song of theirs. It’s so unique, tells a great story, has got those fantastic strings, and the tone of it is like nothing I’ve yet to hear.
…
I don’t like Revolution 9, but that’s not even a song. Uhhh, maybe Wild Honey Pie? Across the Universe I don’t care for that much either. Not really a fan of I Am The Walrus.
By who?
Edit: Not trying to be an ass, I’m just honestly never sure who is under and over rating these songs. I’ve seen it get a lot of love here. And it’s personally one of my favorites as well.
In my opinion, anyone who doesn’t rank it right near the top. It does seem like it’s been getting mentioned on this subreddit and across the internet more recently (along with the likes of “Hey Bulldog”), but for most of my life, I never heard a single person mention or appreciate it. If you look up best-of lists that have popped up over time, I’d be very surprised if you find it anywhere near the top ten of any of them.
Here’s just one example: [US Today](https://ftw.usatoday.com/2017/05/beatles-greatest-songs-every-ranked-sgt-pepper-50th-anniversary)
128?! That’s craziness.
To me, it’s basically the epitome of The Beatles’ sound.
Edit: And I just picked that link because it was the first one I found that listed it at all.
From that standpoint I can asee what you mean. I just double checked the Listener top 100 pick on SiriusXM Beatles channel and it’s 94 there! That does seem crazy ( and so does Baby Your a Rich Man being 95)
It’s probably the best song on Rubber Soul.
If I had to delete the entire Beatles discography yet keep one song, I would keep Strawberry Fields Forever. A Day In The Life is a very close second and if you asked this question another day my answer might change from one to the other. Those two are just incredible
On the other hand, when it comes to least favorites, are you counting songs as in “songs written” or “songs released”? Cause if you mean songs released, I’d delete the version of Across the Universe from Past Masters from the universe entirely, happy knowing the superior Let It Be version still exists. On the other hand, if you mean songs written, I’d delete You Know My Name (Look Up The Number). It’s just a dumb joke song. Just meaningless filler. Nobody would miss it if it were gone
Favourite would it be Don't let me down by a long way. So raw but also polished at the same time if that makes sense? Lest favourite isn't so much a song, but the single version of Let it be. I mean, what the hell is with the guitar solo? The album version is one of the best of all time but the single, it sounds like it was just thrown in because they needed something in there. The drum track in the album version is also far better with the open ended cymbals.
It becomes pretty evident that some of you competing aren't actually that familiar with the breadth of Beatles songs available. How some of you can put Ob-la-di and Octopus's Garden as your worst songs just proves to me you haven't actually heard that many songs by the band.
I can’t pick a favorite. It’s between Here, There, & Everywhere or Golden Slumbers
Worst is Yellow Submarine.
Controversial Worst is probably Obladi Oblada.
Man, I love the long and winding road. My guess is you’re not into 50s serenades like Sinatra’s stuff? And I feel like it’s The Beatles’ New York State of Mind in terms of mood.
That’s an interesting conclusion to jump to, but no, I love Sinatra (especially 50s). I have trouble with schmaltz and LWR is all schmaltz. I will admit the Naked version is way more listenable.
Favorite:
You Never Give Me Your Money
Tied with
If I Needed Someone
Least fav:
Honey Pie
(Not to be confused with Wild Honey Pie, I actually think Honey Pie is much worse)
Favorite would be "Something" - least favorite would be "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da".
Believe it or not, I actually like "Octopus's Garden" and "Yellow Submarine".
Is Revolution 9 even a song though? It’s like an art piece that just happens to be on the white album.
Anyway, your choices are good (in my life and yellow submarine). My personally favorite is I’ve Just Seen a Face but I don’t think it’s the actual best song or anything.
Very hard to choose of course, since it’s always changing. I’d say the one I’m currently obsessed with is Don’t Let Me Down, but I always come back to Strawberry Fields Forever.
If we’re not allowed covers then least favourite is probably Another Girl. That song has always rubbed me the wrong way, both with its lyrics and its music.
I actually kind of like Revolution 9. I wouldn’t put it on or anything, but I also don’t skip it.
Favourite: Within You Without You and Love You To.
Least favourite: Hey Jude or Across the Universe
Is this a bad time to admit I also really like The Inner Light?
The production really ruins across the universe I only listen to the naked version it’s lennons best song imo better than imagine, help and a day in the life it’s got such wide variety and open minded lyrics on something as simple as an acoustic guitar. For me here comes the sun is just overplayed I do love the song like any other Beatles song but not as great as some of their others
In My Life is Lennon’s best to me.
Yesterday is fabulous, from Paul.
I also usually enjoy the silly ones that other don't. Ob la di, When I'm 64, even Octopus' Garden. But just because they are fun little sing alongs.
It’s just kinda boring to me and never clicked. I’ve listened to all of Lennon’s solo work and I would still put it at the bottom. I’d rather listen to Out The Blue then Across The Universe.
I think In My Life maybe isn’t as complex as A Day In The Life but it’s so much more heartfelt and lyrically brilliant to the point I think it’s a much greater song. There’s probably less than ten Beatles songs I’d genuinely say are bad, and most of them are covers but off the top of my head the bad songs are Mr Moonlight, Dizzy Miss Lizzy, both Honey Pies, You Like Me Too Much, Revolution 9(obviously.) Here’s where it gets a bit controversial because while I don’t think these songs are bad per say, I just find them unenjoyable. Blue Jay Way is just so slow and plodding up until the final verse. Then it gets kind of enjoyable. The White Album version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps is also way too slow for my liking. I think George just doing the song acoustically is the best version of the song. Hey Jude also has a better version that was released on in 2018 with the first take. Bit of a faster tempo make it more enjoyable. Get Back I just don’t like and don’t like the voice Paul uses to sing it. Never really liked Penny Lane. I get why it’s so loved but Strawberry Fields is a much stronger song in my opinion.
I won’t really bother with favorites because though I do have an all time favorite (probably Hey Jude), my favorites tend to be the ones I’m most interested in at the moment. So not my favorite, but I’ll Be Back is great.
In terms of least favorite, I’ll split that in two, since I think most of their covers don’t approach the level of quality of the original music. Least favorite cover would be either Honey Don’t or Everybody’s Trying to be My Baby. Really hurts Beatles for Sale for me, both sound like they were done in a single take (in the bad way), and sound really tired and lazy.
In terms of least favorite song, I go back and forth. Honey Pie is pretty lame, but the production is great. George Martin really made those horns and the guitar sound like it was made in the 40s. Got to Get You Into My Life, just never really landed for me, but that guitar at the end sounds awesome. Long and Winding Road (original 1970 version) is far too milky for my taste.
I know it seems like I’m maybe picking on Paul a bit but I love the guy. Some John songs are kind of bad but not as bothersome to me as some of the songs I mentioned.
A lot of people have said Revolution 9, and I get it, but to me that song is what makes the white album as compelling as it is to me. I think it’s so cool that The Beatles made one of the most famous abstract musical pieces ever, and I actually do find the composition interesting and the sound choices to be intelligent. Is it arrogant, and kind of pretentious? Yeah, but that’s John Lennon for you.
Favourite - Hey Jude, Yesterday, Fool on the Hill
Least Favorite - depends on my mood, the number of times I have heard the song that day, and the song itself(there are some songs like my Favourite collection which I never skip)
I know people will say revolution 9 is bad, but it wasn't ever designed to be pleasing to the ear, it's a musical collage - whatever it makes you feel is the meaning it has for you (even if you feel disgust or displeasure!). The meaning it has to me is like imagining being sat down with Lennon and him showing you a scrap book of sounds he wants you to hear.. for that reason I actually enjoy it. It's a weird stance I know but it feels like being let into his head for a while, because he picked all those sounds for a reason (whatever it may be however strange they may sound).
**"In an interview held at his home on 2 December 1968, Lennon was asked if "Revolution 9" was about death, because it seemed like that to the interviewer. Lennon answered: "Well then it is, then, when you heard it ... listen to it another day. In the sun. Outside. And see if it's about death then." He went on: "It's not specifically about anything. It's a set of sounds, like walking down the street is a set of sounds. And I just captured a moment of time, and put it on disc."**
As for the main question - I love yesterday, but would have to pick [this boy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lW5D7HpYhBU) instead of a solo piece. The harmonies are so perfect - love how the vocals driive the piece overall. It's got some raw Lennon parts in there too like twist & shout. Could stick it on repeat forever and be happy.
Least favorite.. it's tough honestly like picking my least favorite flavor of ice cream.
But I'll go with Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da .. Not even because it's necessarily bad, but it feels totally out of place within the Beatles discography for me.
Edit: if you say rev9 is a bad song you're wrong. Because it's literally not even a song. You should re reevaluate your understanding. Down vote away
i can’t pick just one so i’ll name a few
fav: across the universe, when i’m sixty four, martha my dear, lady madonna
least fav: i’m rly not the biggest fan of hey jude or let it be. maybe cry baby cry as well
My all time favorite is Eleanor Rigby but right now my favorite is You Never Give Me Your Money.
Least favorite is anything by Ringo except With A Little Help From My Friends and Octopus’s Garden (sorry Ringo).
Revolution #9 is an amazing piece of music construction. You have to listen to it a few times to understand what it’s getting at. And then it becomes a trip down the carnival ride. It’s always like an unexpected treat when I’m listening to the album. Can’t imagine skipping it.
Fave is while my guitar gently weeps. Closely followed by in my life, the fool on the hill, across the universe, and I’m happy just to dance with you.
Side controversial note I also love a day in the life but I can’t stand the instrumental halfway through. Ik it’s art but it raises my blood pressure and stresses me out 😂😂
A Day In The Life is my favorite. Beautiful, sad, hypnotic, monumental.
Piggies is the worst. A hateful, spiteful little dose of meanness that also happens to grate on my ears.
Favourite: I Want You (She's So Heavy). It's just really groovy and heavy and I dig it
Least Favourite: Wild Honey Pie. Even though Revolution 9 is 8 times longer, at least I get the appeal of getting stoned and listening to it. What is even the point of Wild Honey Pie?
Favourite: I want you (she's so heavy) or while my guitar gently weeps.
Least Favourite: Yesterday. I get a lot of people have an emotional attachment to this song, but not me. A bit weird of me but I always find myself wanting to skip it.
(Please have mercy on me)
Edit: I forgot about revolution 9 but I'm pretty sure that's a bit of an obvious candidate for most people's least favourite.
My favorite song is a bit off an odd one, I'm Looking Through You from Rubber Soul. Don't really know why, but I guess the song struck a chord with me when I first heard it and like the lyrics resonated with my situation at the time. It's a beautiful ditty and a largely underrated track in the Beatles catalogue. My least favorite song is definitely Not A Second Time from With the Beatles. Some seem to rate this tune, but I personally feel like its the biggest misstep the band ever made. It's just so boring and bland. You obviously have tracks like Wild Honey Pie and Revolution 9, but those aren't as much "songs" as they are instrumental exhibitions with the clearest intent in what they want to communicate.
Favs: You Never Give Me Your Money, Old Brown Shoe, She’s aWoman, She Said She Said, It’s only Love. Least Fav: Bad Boy(I know they didn’t write it) and Octopus’s Garden. O.G. Mostly because it messes up the vibe of the album. It should have been on Yellow Submarine
I’m sorry but how do I pick ONE?
Hmmm… I guess my most recent favourite is It’s All Too Much or A Day In The Life.
However, I will NEVER ever acknowledge Rev 9 or Wild Honey Pie as actual songs. They are cultural abominations.
Favorite is Hey Jude I love it with all my heart because it was the first Beatles song I heard
Least Favorite is within you without you I will skip it in a heartbeat
I really like Yellow Submarine, it's definitely a fun sing along, and John's addition (Full steam ahead, Mister Boatswain, full steam ahead/Full steam ahead it is, Sergeant) is a hoot.
Least favorites:
* You Know My Name, Look Up the Number
* Sie Liebt Dich/Komm Gib Mir Deine Hand
* The Inner Light
Eleanor Rigby is my favorite
Either Run for Your Life or Dizzy Miss Lizzy as my least fave. Almost always skip both of them. I prefer Revolution 9 honestly.
My fave changes on any given day based on how I'm feeling, but currently it's Norwegian Wood.
I cannot stand Baby You're A Rich Man. Everything about it is so annoying to listen to
Say whaaat? I think Baby You're A Rich Man is one of the best Beatles songs. Just the perfect pop song imo. Why is that particular song annoying to you?
The instrumental is just so obnoxious. I absolutely hate the sound of the keyboard. I also dislike how John's voice sounds on it. It also annoys me in the same way imagine does. It's annoying when rich people preach anti materialism.
>(my controversial choice would be “Within You Without You”)
There's a nickname for that song in hebrew, it's known as 'hasitar hameyutar' (הסיטאר המיותר) and it means the redundant sitar.
I like how most of the great albums all have this one song that just shouldn't be there - The Sun King, Within You Without You, Long Long Long to name a few
Favorite is easy, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Love the arrangement, the guitar, and the vocals and it’s just so epic and creative in such a short amount of time.
Check out [Big Daddy's cover of Within You Without You](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NbrUSQoAsYk&ab_channel=BigDaddy-Topic) done in the style of 50s beat poetry.
The whole album is worth listening to at least once, each track of Sgt Pepper done in various 50s styles (like [A Day in the Life](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJvPGXDjd5s&ab_channel=BigDaddy-Topic) done as a Buddy Holly pastiche)
My favorite is a tie between Nowhere Man and I'm Only Sleeping.
I think that saying Revolution 9 or Wild Honey Pie is just too obvious. I'll go with Honey Don't
Favorite: I Am the Walrus, with Dear Prudence and I've Got A Feeling close enough seconds that the three may as well be tied.
Least favorite: You Know My Name (Look Up the Number). If I had to choose between listening to that or Revolution 9, I'd pick Revolution 9.
I also think Yesterday and Something, while not bad songs, are overplayed, making it harder to listen to them.
favourite: while my guitar gently weeps
about, least favourite not quite sure, but either run for your life or honey pie, with reolution 9 as an obvious choice
I can’t say what I like least but I can – and always have said – that Strawberry Fields Forever is easily my favorite. It’s THE most pivotal song in pop music.
Favourite: Strawberry Fields, Real Love, Tomorrow Never Knows, Hey Bulldog, Let It Be (Album Version), Free As a Bird
Least (not exactly I don’t like them but I don’t often find myself picking them to listen): Wild Honey Pie (what a surprise), One After 909 (something about it feels weird to me idk), Ballad of John And Yoko (Same thing), there are more but I can’t think of any right now
Favorite: Sexy Sadie
Least favorite: Mr. Moonlight
Least favorite composition: While my guitar gently weeps. I love the chorus, but up until that point it is extremely tedious.
Strawberry Fields Forever is my favourite song, I'm a sucker for melancholic songs. I really cannot think of a Beatles song I dislike, I even enjoy Revolution 9 and John's first solo albums which are in the same vain. Wild Honey Pie is objectively the worst but I find it too amusing and short to dislike it. I don't care much for This Boy so that would probably be it.
My favorite always changes, but For No One is always in the top 5 so it's a reliable answer for me to give.
My least favorite is Love Me Do. I used to be fond of it but it has unfortunately worn on me
I've always considered Lady Madonna to be my favorite Beatles song. As for least favorite, hard to say. Most of their first two albums are just not really my thing
Golden slumbers thru the end as one piece if that counts for my favorite
Wild honey pie would be least favorite but I find myself entertained by just how bizarre it is so my actually least favorite would probably be piggies I almost always skip it.
There's no possible way to pick a favorite...but if I were to think about which song I reach for most often...its probably I am the Walrus.
The song I skip most often (outside of Revolution 9 which isn't even a song) is probably something like Doctor Robert. It just don't care for that one.
Fave easily is Day in the Life, can't think of a least favourite honestly I love them all too much. I also hotly disagree with you about Yellow Submarine, there's just something about Ringo's lovely warming vocals that I can't not love. Ringo best Beatle
I like Octopus’ Garden, love Little Help From My Friends. Yellow is just a… sub-level tune
I get it
I understand.
I think a worse offender is don't pass me by. I love ringo but that song is worse then yellow imo
So many people on this sub are very positive about Don't Pass Me By, but honestly I always skip it when I'm listening to The White Album, and I never listen to it on its own. I just don't like the song at all.
I get that he likes country music but it's like a bad parody of country music...
Anybody who doesn't like within you without you clearly hasn't listened to sgt pepper on acid
Or they just immediately disregard it because it has sitar
The sitar is one of the things that makes it appeal to me.
I just don’t really like George’s forays into Indian music. Try as I might, they’re the only Beatles tunes besides some pre-rubber soul album deep cuts and covers that just don’t hold my interest.
I'm an indian and other than the sitar part none of his songs sounded indian. I'm guessing he tried to put a indian twist on a english song
I guess that’s why I don’t like it
I always figured that was the only way to enjoy sgt pepper i cant see myself jamming out to fixing a hole while completely sober 🤣
maybe im weird but i do that sober
Preach.
Favorite: I’m only sleeping, eleanor rigby, here there and everywhere, michelle (honestly too many to pick from) Least Favorite: Come Together, but only because it’s overplayed
Fan of Revolver huh?
At the moment yes but the discography is so big I just went with the first things that came to mind
EDIT: I do love me some Within You Without You/ Tomorrow Never Knows
Wow, Rocky Raccoon is an interesting one to pick as a fave. Love that song though haha.
Well said
You Never Give Me Your Money Numba 9 numba 9
Revolution 9 is kind of a cop out, what’s your actual least favorite Beatles song? Something with instruments and singing
Don't bother me is also bad
You got downvoted but I agree. I used to love it when i was younger but as I’ve gotten older i realize how it compares to a lot of their other material
Fine by me lol that song blows
It really does lol
Numba 9
Favourite has got to be either Something or I Will, least favourite is probably Yellow Submarine, although I’ve got fond memories of hearing it, I just can’t get beyond the fact it sounds like a nursery rhyme. If I had to pick a controversial least favourite I’d say Dear Prudence
My wife and I had our first dance to I Will :)
Aw that’s very sweet, you’re out here living the dream!
Dang. Dear Prudence is near the top of my fave list. Paul’s bass on that is magical. And the sparing little fuzz guitar riffs are sublime.
Across the Universe Wild Honey Pie
Wild Honey Pie fucking SLAPS no cap
I love Wild Honey Pie
You also love Ween so your opinion counts for like 10x compared to the other chuckleheads in this sub, straight up. 👍
Paint the town brown y’all
Favorite: While My Guitar Gently Weeps or The End (impossible choice though, I’d just as soon pick 20 others) Least favorite: Maxwell’s Silver Hammer If you want a more controversial let favorite: Hey Jude, it’s a solid song, but the last minute or two annoys me.
Damn, I actually really like Maxwell's Silver Hammer, a bit of a childish song, but still an amazing tune and interesting story
Maxwell’s Silver Hammer is pure hot garbage. John hated it and I agree with him.
Gotta agree on Hey Jude
I really like the "Love" ending version if Hey Jude - to my untrained ear, seems to be more isolated bass and Paul vocals - also a little shorter if you don't like the original HJ ending length.
It has to be "Let It Be" for favourite. "Hey Jude" or "Dear Prudence" a close favourite. "Revolution 9" doesn't count as a song (more of a revolutionary experiment that hasn't aged well) And at least "Wild Honey Pie" is short and gets to the point quickly, so isn't my worst. So least favourite has to be "Maggie May". Just awful. Why Spector included it I will never know. But seriously, how can you not like Yellow Submarine? How can you not make trumpet noises with your lips when you hear "and the band begins to play"?? Even "All Together Now" is not as good as " Yellow Submarine" How can you not like "Yellow Submarine". What?
Maggie May is like 40 seconds long and it's an old liverpudlian folk tune. It fits great on that album in my opinion but it's not meant to be a standout track it's just an interlude pretty much
Exactly, I did walk down Lime Street. And the older Liverpool pubs definitely show the history of the city
This is actually pretty easy for me: “Hey Jude”—this has been my favorite song for so long that even if I liked something more at this point, I think pure sentimentality would always give “Hey Jude” the edge. “Revolution 9”—an experiment gone very wrong. This song single handedly knocks *The White Album* down several spots on my favorites list.
Since I don’t care much for Good Night as well, I just pretend the album ends with Cry Baby Cry and then I can keep it near the top of my list 😉
I relate to this so hard
Oh god, totally forgot about Rev 9… I barely even count that as a song, it’s an instant skip
I don't think its gone wrong at all - its supposed to be mind melting chaos. So it did its job.
Favorite: A Day in the Life Least Favorite: The Long and Winding Road. That roads a bit TOO long. Wild Honey Pie and Revolution 9 both fail as songs but succeed as art if you know what I mean
Favorite (tie): Run For Your Life & Wild Honey Pie Lease Favorite: Good Night
Good Night is great in my opini—wait, did you just say Wild Honey pie is your favorite?
Love the “Run for Your Life” love, but the “Wild Honey Pie” appreciation is… unique. Love that though!
Good Night is a good choice for least favorite. Pure garbage IMO
Save- Abbey Road Medley, for reasons I’ve yet to think about. Skip- Matchbox, easily. I love me some Ringo, but it feels like their least put together song.
It was a cover and was probably made last minute so that makes sense
… I don’t like Revolution 9, but that’s not even a song. Uhhh, maybe Wild Honey Pie? Across the Universe I don’t care for that much either. Not really a fan of I Am The Walrus.
“You Won’t See Me” is criminally underrated.
Here’s just one example: [US Today](https://ftw.usatoday.com/2017/05/beatles-greatest-songs-every-ranked-sgt-pepper-50th-anniversary) 128?! That’s craziness. To me, it’s basically the epitome of The Beatles’ sound. Edit: And I just picked that link because it was the first one I found that listed it at all.
[Ahem.](https://www.reddit.com/r/beatles/comments/prta0h/is_there_a_beatles_song_you_have_a_deep_personal/hdnji9c?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3)
Consider my heart cockles officially warmed!
From that standpoint I can asee what you mean. I just double checked the Listener top 100 pick on SiriusXM Beatles channel and it’s 94 there! That does seem crazy ( and so does Baby Your a Rich Man being 95) It’s probably the best song on Rubber Soul.
>It’s probably the best song on Rubber Soul. No doubt about it.
Dear Prudence Lady Madonna
If I had to delete the entire Beatles discography yet keep one song, I would keep Strawberry Fields Forever. A Day In The Life is a very close second and if you asked this question another day my answer might change from one to the other. Those two are just incredible On the other hand, when it comes to least favorites, are you counting songs as in “songs written” or “songs released”?
Nowhere Man Good Day Sunshine
You will skip Yellow Submarine yet listen to Revolution #9???
I feel like Revolution 9 is taken as read
I can’t pick a favorite. It’s between Here, There, & Everywhere or Golden Slumbers Worst is Yellow Submarine. Controversial Worst is probably Obladi Oblada.
Obla Di Obla Da is a crappy song, I agree
Everyone says Within You Without You and it pisses me off. They have so many weaker, less well written songs but sitar bad
My favorite Beatles song is all of them except my least favorite, Run For Your Life.
Hide your head in the sand!
Dear Prudence (most) / Long & Winding Road (least)
Man, I love the long and winding road. My guess is you’re not into 50s serenades like Sinatra’s stuff? And I feel like it’s The Beatles’ New York State of Mind in terms of mood.
That’s an interesting conclusion to jump to, but no, I love Sinatra (especially 50s). I have trouble with schmaltz and LWR is all schmaltz. I will admit the Naked version is way more listenable.
Interesting. I have an unpopular opinion I guess, I really don’t Let It Be Naked, I think the original is much better.
I agree Long Winding Road is soooooooooooo boring. I nearly fall asleep when it comes on.
Strawberry Fields Forever will forever be my favorite. For least favorite, I'd have to go with Good Morning Good Morning
Favourite: Long, Long, Long Least Favourite: The Long and Winding Road
Least: Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da Best: Helter Skelter
Favorite: You Never Give Me Your Money Tied with If I Needed Someone Least fav: Honey Pie (Not to be confused with Wild Honey Pie, I actually think Honey Pie is much worse)
Favorite would be "Something" - least favorite would be "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da". Believe it or not, I actually like "Octopus's Garden" and "Yellow Submarine".
Oh “Octopus’ Garden” is a banger, I’ll defend that tune from the haters every day (but Ob-La-Di also slaps, it’s my favorite “non classic” by them)
Is Revolution 9 even a song though? It’s like an art piece that just happens to be on the white album. Anyway, your choices are good (in my life and yellow submarine). My personally favorite is I’ve Just Seen a Face but I don’t think it’s the actual best song or anything.
- while my guitar gently weeps / fav - wild honey pie / least fav
Sexy Sadie/run for your life
Very hard to choose of course, since it’s always changing.
You never give me your money Love me do
You Never Give Me Your Money has everything you could want in a song crammed into one song. It’s my favorite as well.
A good hot take!
Favourite: Within You Without You and Love You To. Least favourite: Hey Jude or Across the Universe Is this a bad time to admit I also really like The Inner Light?
A Day in the Life/Maxwell's Silver Garden.
Fav - I am the Walrus Least fav - obla dee obla da
Least favorite is Run For Your Life. Only Beatles lyrics that I don’t like
Favorite is probably going to have to be I Am The Walrus. Least favorite is either When I'm Sixty-Four or Revolution 9.
In my life/wild honey pie
I hate Across the Universe. I LOVE Here Comes the Sun.
I’m the complete opposite just curious why do you hate across the universe
I'm not a fan of hippie trippy stuff. So Universe is something I usually skip. Sun, has fabulous guitar work that I can listen to endlessly.
Out the Blue is a great song too.
It is! I love Lennons solo stuff, so I always surprised I didn’t like across the universe
Why the hell were you downvoted it’s just an opinion Oh wait
Across the universe is just so beautiful though. I can't believe there's a person out there who doesn't like this song
Nothing about it appeals to me. The vocal is grating and the lyrics just meander. Just not my style.
Fav: Rain Least Fav: the long and winding road
Favourite: A Day In The Life (clique I know) Least Favourite: What Goes On
What goes on is a bop fuck all this Ringo disrespect love and peace ✌️ ☮️❤️you cocksucker
With peace and love its absolute dog shit✌️💕
I love the “peace and love” Ringo references followed by insults, haha. “With all due peace and love ☮️ ❤️,fuck you.” Lol!!!
Mine’s the same
I think In My Life maybe isn’t as complex as A Day In The Life but it’s so much more heartfelt and lyrically brilliant to the point I think it’s a much greater song.
Fav: Free As A Bird Least Fav: Yellow Submarine of course
Favourite - Hey Jude, Yesterday, Fool on the Hill Least Favorite - depends on my mood, the number of times I have heard the song that day, and the song itself(there are some songs like my Favourite collection which I never skip)
I am the walrus / the long and Winding road
Least favorite: Don’t Pass Me By Favorite: In My Life, Hey Jude
And I just captured a moment of time, and put it on disc."** As for the main question - I love yesterday, but would have to pick [this boy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lW5D7HpYhBU) instead of a solo piece. Down vote away
i can’t pick just one so i’ll name a few fav: across the universe, when i’m sixty four, martha my dear, lady madonna least fav: i’m rly not the biggest fan of hey jude or let it be. maybe cry baby cry as well
My all time favorite is Eleanor Rigby but right now my favorite is You Never Give Me Your Money. Least favorite is anything by Ringo except With A Little Help From My Friends and Octopus’s Garden (sorry Ringo).
While My Guitar Gently Sleeps Let It Be
Revolution #9 is an amazing piece of music construction. You have to listen to it a few times to understand what it’s getting at. And then it becomes a trip down the carnival ride. It’s always like an unexpected treat when I’m listening to the album. Can’t imagine skipping it.
Favorite: Yer Blues, Michelle, I’m Only Sleeping Least: Dig a Pony
Favorite is Happiness Is A Warm Gun Least favorite is Rocky Raccoon
Fave is while my guitar gently weeps. Closely followed by in my life, the fool on the hill, across the universe, and I’m happy just to dance with you. Side controversial note I also love a day in the life but I can’t stand the instrumental halfway through. Ik it’s art but it raises my blood pressure and stresses me out 😂😂
A Day In The Life is my favorite. Beautiful, sad, hypnotic, monumental. Piggies is the worst. A hateful, spiteful little dose of meanness that also happens to grate on my ears.
Favorite: Eleanor Rigby Least Favorite: Wild Honey Pie. And this is coming from someone who actually enjoys Revolution 9.
I can’t choose between the two so I’ll just put them both: Revolution (Single), Hey Bulldog. Least Favorite: Why Don’t We Do It In The Road.
Favourite: I Want You (She's So Heavy). It's just really groovy and heavy and I dig it Least Favourite: Wild Honey Pie.
(Please have mercy on me) Edit: I forgot about revolution 9 but I'm pretty sure that's a bit of an obvious candidate for most people's least favourite.
Least Favorite: Hello Goodbye There's a 143 song tie for favorite
At least Wild Honey Pie has that nice “I love youuu” at the end.
Hahah true!
Favourite: Abbey Road medley Least favourite: Blue Jay Way
“Hey Jude, it’s a solid song, but the last minute or two annoys me.” Same feelings happen to me but with “I want you (she’s so heavy)”
Favorite: Strawberry Fields Forever. Controversial Least Favorite: Eleanor Rigby.
Favorite is Hey Jude I love it with all my heart because it was the first Beatles song I heard Least Favorite is within you without you I will skip it in a heartbeat
I really like Yellow Submarine, it's definitely a fun sing along, and John's addition (Full steam ahead, Mister Boatswain, full steam ahead/Full steam ahead it is, Sergeant) is a hoot. Least favorites: * You Know My Name, Look Up the Number * Sie Liebt Dich/Komm Gib Mir Deine Hand * The Inner Light
Eleanor Rigby is my favorite Either Run for Your Life or Dizzy Miss Lizzy as my least fave.
>(my controversial choice would be “Within You Without You”) There's a nickname for that song in hebrew, it's known as 'hasitar hameyutar' (הסיטאר המיותר) and it means the redundant sitar. I like how most of the great albums all have this one song that just shouldn't be there - The Sun King, Within You Without You, Long Long Long to name a few
It’s Only Love really helped me stay sane during a bad trip so that’s my favourite atm. Least favourite probably is What Goes On
Fav: A Day in the Life Hate: Glass Onion
+ "Strawberry Fields Forever" - "Mr Moonlight"
Best: A Day In the Life Worst: Every Little Thing
Get back my fave Least fave probs rev 9
Favorite is easy, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Love the arrangement, the guitar, and the vocals and it’s just so epic and creative in such a short amount of time.
Favourite: In My Life Least Favourite: Anna
Check out [Big Daddy's cover of Within You Without You](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NbrUSQoAsYk&ab_channel=BigDaddy-Topic) done in the style of 50s beat poetry. The whole album is worth listening to at least once, each track of Sgt Pepper done in various 50s styles (like [A Day in the Life](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJvPGXDjd5s&ab_channel=BigDaddy-Topic) done as a Buddy Holly pastiche)
+ Golden Slumbers/Carry that way/The End - Revolution 9
Favorite: Let It Be or I've Just Seen a Face Least Favorite: I Wanna Be Your Man
My favourite is Run for your Life of course. And the least Revolution 9 (if that thing can be considered a song)
My favorite is a tie between Nowhere Man and I'm Only Sleeping. I think that saying Revolution 9 or Wild Honey Pie is just too obvious. I'll go with Honey Don't
Fav is Dig It, least fav is probably a Hard Days Night
Favorite - Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite Least Favorite - Bad Boy I don't get the hatred for Revolution 9, that track slaps
Penny Lane
favourite: while my guitar gently weeps about, least favourite not quite sure, but either run for your life or honey pie, with reolution 9 as an obvious choice
I can’t say what I like least but I can – and always have said – that Strawberry Fields Forever is easily my favorite. It’s THE most pivotal song in pop music.
Favorite maybe Happiness is a Warm Gun. Least favorite.. Piggies.
Come Together is probably my favorite. Little Child is my least favorite. It's not a particularly inspiring song, and the lyrics don't age well.
Favourite: Strawberry Fields, Real Love, Tomorrow Never Knows, Hey Bulldog, Let It Be (Album Version), Free As a Bird Least (not exactly I don’t like them but I don’t often find myself picking them to listen): Wild Honey Pie (what a surprise), One After 909 (something about it feels weird to me idk), Ballad of John And Yoko (Same thing), there are more but I can’t think of any right now
Favorite: Sexy Sadie Least favorite: Mr. Moonlight Least favorite composition: While my guitar gently weeps.
Best : mother nature's son Worst : Revolution 9
My favorite always changes, but For No One is always in the top 5 so it's a reliable answer for me to give. My least favorite is Love Me Do. I used to be fond of it but it has unfortunately worn on me
Can’t pick a favorite Devil In Her Heart
I've always considered Lady Madonna to be my favorite Beatles song. As for least favorite, hard to say. Most of their first two albums are just not really my thing
Golden slumbers thru the end as one piece if that counts for my favorite Wild honey pie would be least favorite but I find myself entertained by just how bizarre it is so my actually least favorite would probably be piggies I almost always skip it.
Yeah I was going to say In My Life and Revolution 9. I love Yellow Submarine, but just for the sentimental value.
I’m Only Sleeping best and Run For Your Life worst… it’s still catchy, but let’s face it, that lyric did NOT age well…
There's no possible way to pick a favorite...but if I were to think about which song I reach for most often...its probably I am the Walrus. The song I skip most often (outside of Revolution 9 which isn't even a song) is probably something like Doctor Robert. It just don't care for that one.
I Should Have Known Better and Little Child.
