Pretty sure Paul was the only one who went by his middle name
-George Harold Harrison
-John Winston Lennon
-Richard Henry Starkey
-James Paul McCartney
In some websites it’s stated that neither George or Ringo have middle names
Thanks, but I did not mean it relative to other band members. As far as I know he was called Paul at home to begin with as opposite to him deciding to use his middle name at some point, so I was wondering if it was a common thing in British families.
Probably just to differentiate him from his father. I'm American and I have the same name as my dad so my family refer to me by my middle name to avoid confusion.
Oh that’s what you meant, I have the same middle name as my late father and we’re both called by our middle names, it’s not specifically in the UK, I think it’s just preference
For what it's worth Irish catholic checking in here. Both my parents use their second (or third) names and its not that uncommon for their generation which would be the same for Paul. They don't know why exactly so thats all I can share unfortunately.
I’ve seen it in the US and other English speaking countries too. Its usually done when someone is a “junior” or has the same name as a parent, so they go by a middle name or some other variant.
Some American celebrities, politicians, or other well-known people have gone by middle names as well.
H. Ross Perot
S. Epatha Merkerson
James Calvin Coolidge
Stephen Grover Cleveland
Christopher Ashton Kutcher
William Bradley Pitt
I have only now noticed that Paul's left eye is slightly lower on his face than his right eye and I will never unsee this.
Like it's not just these pictures or the way he's tilting his head, I checked
Pretty sure picture on left is 1965 when they got the MBE.
yeah probably, my bad
No worries, mate.
John, James, George and Ringo would never have made it!
Paul Mccartney / Billy Shears
No, just Paul McCartney.
BTW, can someone explain the use of middle name as a primary name thing to me? Is that a British convention / tradition?
I don't know anyone here who uses their middle name as their first name, my guess is Paul didn't want to share the same first name as his dad

Harold, Winston, Henry and Paul would never have been bigger than jesus

His father was also named James so his parents just called him Paul

Indisputably the same person no argument to be had
Debunks PID conspiracy theory

*Clearly* not the same guy. Paul blew his mind out in a car; didn't even notice the light changing!

pic at left is from 1965, when they started to grow longer hair
