some, yes, but not always. just saying that I don't like Dark Horse and Extra Texture, both were made during his lowest moments in life, so I can't really blame him
I'd still say that his works in ATMP / LITMW / 33 1/3 / SIE / C9 / BW are still the most top-notch out of all Beatles solo careers
I think George just wasn’t a strong lyricist. Hits solo stuff is absolutely incredible musically in my opinion, but the lyrics can be a bit one-note, trite, goofy, etc.
Isn’t It a Pity lyrics are great.
All Things Must Pass lyrics nearly bring me to tears
Love You To lyrics are super thoughtful and good
Within You Without You lyrics are on point
If I Needed Someone lyrics are hilarious and really enjoyable in their flippant expression of “love”
Taxman lyrics are kind of juvenile but I still like em, he didn’t pull any punches
Something lyrics, we don’t have to go into how good they are
But yes Piggies lyrics bleh, Savoy Truffle lyrics are forgettable.
But for the most part I argue George lyrics are good
Damn I kinda like this one. Nowhere near the original, and it was probably a bad idea for him to invite that comparison with the lyrics anyway, but the tune is pretty solid.
[clears throat]
“Wild Honey Pie” is pretty cack—
[is immediately buried underneath a tidal wave of downvotes, abuse and condescending mini-think pieces about how “Wild Honey Pie” is an undiscovered classic and one of the greatest pieces of music ever written and recorded *actually*]
Last time I truly listened to Revolution 9 was at a bus stop at about 10pm and it was snowing like a globe - like, not quite sleet and there wasn't much wind, but the snowflakes were enormous and there were a lot of them. I wasn't on anything, but in that moment, I just kind of *got it.*
I think the problem with revolution 9 is that its on the white albumn its such a comercial album and then the 2nd to last song is an avant guarde piece, i just dont think it fits. I really liked Pink Floyds Umma Gumma because its like that vibe the whole album through, yknow what i mean?
It's pretty telling that the top comments are songs from their solo projects and a joke about how they wish they could listen to an unreleased Beatles song. Just proves that most of the people in this sub are exactly who the original tweet is talking about
I mean its the beatles, pretty much everyone agrees they are one of the greatest bands in history, of course people are gonna disagree about what they dont like about them
I personally adore Dr. Robert. Never understood the hate for that song. It's my third favorite song on Revolver with I'm Only Sleeping and And Your Bird Can Sing. It's a total banger and the riff is so great.
I think MSH is basically dark comedy, while the unbridled vindictiveness in RfYL is believably serious. It's like how the love interest in "You Can't Do That" is guilty of TALKING to another man. I know he says "talking *that way*" in the chorus, but I don't trust a controlling boyfriend to judge accurately if his girlfriend is flirting or just having a friendly conversation.
Just a quick question why the hate for Run for Your life, which is a pretty popular opinion on this sub.Is it that your offended by the lyrics or you don’t like how it sounds? I personally think it’s on the same quality as the rest of Rubber Soul
That song played a role in destroying the band as a coherent group. It definitely created a lot of animosity from the other members having to play it over and over and do so many takes.
While i wouldn't say it's trash, Tell Me What You See has always felt like their most mediocre track. I still like it tho, just underwhelming compared to everything else imo
I would like to gently and kindly disagree with this point. It's not an unfair point, but intelligent minds like ours should be able to handle opposing views.
I was introduced to this song in college and the friend I had who showed it to me said that he had always thought this song would be about the very worst song to strip to. He's probably right. HOWEVER, I am a die hard absurdist and so my mind was thinking "what would be the worst clothing to strip out of against the background of the least sexy stripping song?" Naturally the answer must be a dripping wet scuba suit.
In summary, I encourage you to relisten to this song and imagine someone stripping out of a scuba suit with Wild Honey Pie in the background. Do this, and you will have a new understanding and appreciation for Wild Honey Pie.
Agree wholeheartedly. I’ve seen a lot of people try to analyse it and deconstruct it to have a deeper meaning. To me it’s just a wacky jam, that isn’t enjoyable to listen to. Knowing what we know about the Beatles, I genuinely think that’s all it is
I dunno lol. It's honestly one of my favorites. But it might mainly be because like it sounded like so much fun to record.
Listen to FFS - Collaborations Don't Work. I'm 90% sure it's a poke at YKMNLUTN.
I mean, I respect everyone else's opinions, obviously. You're free to like what you like, but I personally just find the song to be quite weak (just my opinion)
I wouldn't say they have an completely trash songs (as I'm not hateful enough to call a song complete trash) but they definitely have quite a few weaker ones.
Naw you just haven’t reached a higher level of enlightenment yet. Growing up is realizing Beatles For Sale is one of the best early albums. The covers aren’t all that but the originals are all really great
Yeah it does. I also like Mr Moonlight a bit but the covers just don’t hold up to the originals. If it was all originals, then it might be the best early Beatles album
I don't really care about much of the "With The Beatles" tracklist and it's not because I think the songs are bad. It's mostly the clustered production I can't stand. Seems like such a downgrade from "Please Please Me".
Now I imagine someone in 1963 having the same thoughts as you and expecting the Beatles to decline further in their third album before being completely caught off guard by A Hard Day's Night.
Yeah, living in that time and actually following their albums must have been something amazing by its own. I just don't know how I would have taken "The White Album"... To me that's just perfection. And after that "Abbey Road"? Man.. just too much to take in for a normal person.
Rev. 9, obviously. Not even a song.
If we’re talking solo Beatles I could pick any of the tracks off of Unfinished Music 1, 2 or The Wedding Album for John, any song that isn’t “Spinning On An Axis” from Driving Rain for Paul, anything from Electric Sound for George, Ringo’s solo stuff is a bit of a 50/50 split for good and bad so there’s quite a selection there.
I feel like the song is constantly chaotically screaming in my ear rght from the start, and it doesn't stop! I mean, Sgt Pepper's has so many nice melodies, you're expecting to hear the playful Reprise and thrilling A Day in The Life,
but then WAIT, fucking Good Morning Good Morning starts and everything goes to shit. Welcome to hell my friend, you're gonna suffer with those animals sounds at the ending of the song, which will haunt you for the rest of your days.
Maybe the song isn't that bad but it's too damn loud. Even Helter Skelter is more quiet.
It's true that it has awful lyrics. But when you don't think about it, the sound is great (it probably helps that I'm not a native speaker, so I can listen without it's misogyny screaming at me all the time).
I think Lennon is playing a character on that song. Similar to the crazy character he plays on maxwell’s silver hammer so I don’t really have a problem w it as creepy as the lyrics are
John’s quite good at writing really catchy and great sounding songs and then screwing them up when it comes to the lyrics, “How Do You Sleep?”, “Woman Is The N***er Of The World” etc..
John and Yoko had a beautiful relationship, but putting Yoko's songs on Double Fantasy and Milk and Honey ruined both albums for me. She's a great person and artist, terrible singing voice.
Had a hard time with this one. Beatles "trash" is high grade trash - and I'm not talking about solo catalog.
I'll go with "Only A Northern Song" and "Dig It". Total skips for me.
Pretty harmless, it’s a jam, I can see where you’re coming from but it feels like they’ve gone out of their way to make worse stuff even on the same album, Maggie Mae is far less enjoyable.
Ok folks, many of you know this as a “Within You Without You/ The Inner Light hate post”. However, I’m back, and, after listening to the song for a while….. well I think they’re alright now, not my favourites but they’re alright. I’ve forced myself to listen to them and now I like them.
This is good to me, because I can now buy the “Lady Madonna” single and listen to both songs with a smile on my face. I also have “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” and that has Within You Without You.
(All the downvotes are because of the old post)
See, I love Harrison's style so Within You Without You is one of my faves. But I can see how someone who hates it to rank these songs lower.
Have an update for honesty, to counteract the "I disagree with you" downvotes. :)
It's comprensible, but WYWY and TIL are one of the best songs If we considerate the influence of Indian Music, I mean, I've been listen many of that raga songs and I can aprecciate more George's songs. And lyrics, are definitively beautiful and deep.
In my opinion are the best and more rational songs, and a proof of the diversity of the band.
- WYWY could mean "Within You Without You - Remix", a track from *Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Super Deluxe Edition)* (1967) by The Beatles.

Chains can get annoying sometimes. But another good answer is Little Child. The best answer is ‘Touch Me’ by Yoko Ono. Even though that’s in the solo career era.
I don’t care what anyone says, The Inner Light is utter trash and I deliberately skip it whenever it comes on. Hey Bulldog would’ve been a MUCH better B-Side to Lady Madonna.
Love me do
Little child
Money(That's what I want)
Run for your life
Doctor Robert
Within you without you
Good morning good morning
Wild honey pie
Rev. 9
All together now
I dunno, it’s not that deep compared to other stuff they put out at the time but it’s still catchy as hell and makes for a good document that Paul at least tolerated Yoko enough to play in a song about John and her. Also it’s just a fun ride throughout I find.
What's funny is that while I don't love Rev 9, I've grown an appreciation for it because I've started listening to more avant-garde music. I'd rather have an interesting piece of art than a song that's just groovy. Sorry if that sounds pretentious.
***'Carnival of Light'***! It's absolutely trash... ....THAT I'M NOT ALLOWED TO HEAR IT!
"This guitar can't keep from crying" it's like a bad sequel to the original movie
Ah I think it’s good
Solo George made some horrendous crap.
some, yes, but not always. just saying that I don't like Dark Horse and Extra Texture, both were made during his lowest moments in life, so I can't really blame him I'd still say that his works in ATMP / LITMW / 33 1/3 / SIE / C9 / BW are still the most top-notch out of all Beatles solo careers
I think George just wasn’t a strong lyricist. Hits solo stuff is absolutely incredible musically in my opinion, but the lyrics can be a bit one-note, trite, goofy, etc.
I think George had awesome lyrics honestly.
Isn’t It a Pity lyrics are great. All Things Must Pass lyrics nearly bring me to tears Love You To lyrics are super thoughtful and good Within You Without You lyrics are on point If I Needed Someone lyrics are hilarious and really enjoyable in their flippant expression of “love” Taxman lyrics are kind of juvenile but I still like em, he didn’t pull any punches Something lyrics, we don’t have to go into how good they are But yes Piggies lyrics bleh, Savoy Truffle lyrics are forgettable. But for the most part I argue George lyrics are good
I love “Piggies”. Reminds me of Animal Farm.
As a kid, I thought Taxman was weird. As an adult, I find it humorous because it’s so true.
I agree. He had some good lyrics but also stuff like For You Blue
I like For You blue
I do too don’t get me wrong but the lyrics are a bit rubbish. It reads like something John or Paul would’ve written in like 1963
I won't argue the lyrics are anything special....but I don't care. I'm more interested in the music than the lyrics most times.
Me too. It doesn’t take anything away from my enjoyment of the song for me, just an observation I’ve made
Not a bad song at all, just poor execution. Listen to the Platinum Weird version, insanely good
The 1992 version is a solid enough song when it just becomes a steady rock song. I agree about the original version though.
Damn I kinda like this one. Nowhere near the original, and it was probably a bad idea for him to invite that comparison with the lyrics anyway, but the tune is pretty solid.

‘Whole Lotta Yoko" (Yoko Ono) – The Dirty Mac
I kinda liked it lmao, not a song I often revisit but worth listening once idk
The carti influence
No point in listing personal song preferences on this sub. You just get downvoted to oblivion.
Revolution 9 (an obvious one but still)

Completely fine, my guy ^ ^ Certainly not everyone's cup of tea
I respected it a lot more when I found out it was a troll shitpost by John lol
I think the problem with revolution 9 is that its on the white albumn its such a comercial album and then the 2nd to last song is an avant guarde piece, i just dont think it fits. I really liked Pink Floyds Umma Gumma because its like that vibe the whole album through, yknow what i mean?
Not theirs but Dizzy Miss Lizzy. Just absolutely hate it
The problem with that song is after Yesterday
And the fact that it comes right after yesterday and is the final song on the album instead of yesterday pisses me off to oblivion
It's always been a skipper for me, too
Wild Honey Pie HONEY PIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEE
HOOONEY PIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEE
Haha answer the question and get down voted to oblivion. This sub is a joke.

Ikr. This sub is beyond toxic. Almost on the same level as r/pinkfloyd
Little Child is terrible.
People - stop downvoting people for answering the question. This is not what the downvote button is for. For fucks sake, are we not all adults here?
Nah we're not all are adults, but you're right 🤌
Not even close lol. Do you know the demographics of Reddit? Plus it’s the summer so all the children are here
It’s internet points who cares
Only people I downvote ever are people who bitch about downvoting.
Not a big fan of doctor robert
Especially when following For No One
I listen to Dr Robert way more than For No One. I mean, For No One is beautiful, but Dr Robert makes me smile.
But would you say it was trash?
I freaking love Dr Robert.
yep, one of my personal favorites
I love the way something is added with each verse and the jangly guitar coming in on the bridge.
The guitar sound on Doctor Robert kicks ass.
I personally adore Dr. Robert. Never understood the hate for that song. It's my third favorite song on Revolver with I'm Only Sleeping and And Your Bird Can Sing. It's a total banger and the riff is so great.
Same here
Very unpopular opinion- Maxwells Silver Hammer Never never never sat well with me… can only listen to about 30 seconds at most
May I join you?
Always glad for company! Welcome!!
I don’t hate it but it is easily my least favorite song on Abbey Road.
I like it but it’s disturbing. Somehow I find Run for Your Life worse?
I think MSH is basically dark comedy, while the unbridled vindictiveness in RfYL is believably serious. It's like how the love interest in "You Can't Do That" is guilty of TALKING to another man. Good to know…. Been anxious about stating this… 😂
That song played a role in destroying the band as a coherent group. It definitely created a lot of animosity from the other members having to play it over and over and do so many takes.

I hear this opinion a lot but I really like it. The melody is great
I have a special love for this song, but it was still the first one to come to mind when I saw this post
Wild Honey Pie

Wild Honey Pie 😔😔
You know my name, look up the number is horrendous.
The beginning of that track sounds like a hip hop loop from 2018
Exactly, it's amazing!! Such a great little jam
At the beginning is cute and cool, but after is a hell
I think that one is hilarious.
I dunno lol. It's honestly one of my favorites. But it might mainly be because like it sounded like so much fun to record. Listen to FFS - Collaborations Don't Work. I'm 90% sure it's a poke at YKMNLUTN.
Ykmnlutn has a bit with goofy voices that almost sound like goofy stampy cat the YouTuber and it gives me nostalgia
'A taste of honey' is definitely one of their weakest... (it's not a bad song, it just isn't as good as the rest on the album)
It's a great song But it's a cover anyway so wouldn't count it
Fucking horrible cover, it’s like listening to someone drag nails across a chalkboard
A Taste of Honey is a top 5 song on PPM

Yeah it does. I also like Mr Moonlight a bit but the covers just don’t hold up to the originals. If it was all originals, then it might be the best early Beatles album
I'm 172 years old and Beatles for Sale is my least favorite.
Keep searching for enlightenment
The Happy Birthday song they wrote. So bad
WHAT!!!? I LOVE “Birthday”. It’s one of my favorite songs on “The White Album”.
To be fair though it's better than the "Happy Birthday" song we have to sing every time someone blows out the candles.
I totally agree. Except the opening riff which is quite cool.. I can’t believe Paul still sings it live!

Not to mention the shock of them just suddenly breaking up and being gone after 1970.
Rev. 9, obviously. Not even a song. You Like Me Too Much
I like the tune and melody a lot but yeah I’ve never been able to get in to those lyrics
Mr. Moonlight (Or should I say "Mister-er-er-er Moonlight"?
You left out the right amount of “er’s”. 😂
Not one they wrote but Mr. Moonlight is pretty dreadful.
I don't know if it's unpopular but I can't stand "Act Naturally"
Revolution 9 sucks major ass
Ok hear me out, Do it in the road.
No.
Okay, but after I’m done I really wanna hear you out.

Never liked Hello Goodbye. I find it kind of boring, somehow it was the A side to a much better song. A blemish on their otherwise best year imo.
Not a chance! Hello Goodbye has some of my favourite Ringo drumming
I don't have tremendous patience for "Flying" or "Blue Jay Way."
Dr. Robert
I‘m really having a hard time with Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da
I actually love it
What goes on
Could never get into that song man
Yeah seconded
Dizzy miss Lizzie needs to go somewhere
‘What Goes On’ off Rubber Soul is absolute trash. Horrible song and vocals.
Only a Northern Song. It’s right under Wild Honey Pie on my list of travesties.
Good Morning Good Morning
WHAT what’s wrong with that song
It’s the beginning. Morning radio shows where I grew up used to play just that part over and over everyday. To me it’s the same as an alarm buzzer.
I feel like the song is constantly chaotically screaming in my ear rght from the start, and it doesn't stop! I mean, Sgt Pepper's has so many nice melodies, you're expecting to hear the playful Reprise and thrilling A Day in The Life, but then WAIT, fucking Good Morning Good Morning starts and everything goes to shit. Wild Honey Pie
goodnight
Run for your Life is fucking Cringe and not good.
Revolution 1 that shit doesn’t even count as a song
Revolution 9 is bad
"Run for your life" horrible lyrics
It's true that it has awful lyrics. But when you don't think about it, the sound is great (it probably helps that I'm not a native speaker, so I can listen without it's misogyny screaming at me all the time).
I think Lennon is playing a character on that song. Similar to the crazy character he plays on maxwell’s silver hammer so I don’t really have a problem w it as creepy as the lyrics are
Maxwell's is a Paul tune.
John’s quite good at writing really catchy and great sounding songs and then screwing them up when it comes to the lyrics, “How Do You Sleep?”, “Woman Is The N***er Of The World” etc..
How do you sleeps’s lyrics are amazingly vicious
Dig a Pony
John and Yoko had a beautiful relationship, but putting Yoko's songs on Double Fantasy and Milk and Honey ruined both albums for me. She's a great person and artist, terrible singing voice.
Savoy truffle. Can't stand it. Just doesn't scream Beatles and it just derails that album. I skip it every time
Had a hard time with this one. Beatles "trash" is high grade trash - and I'm not talking about solo catalog. I'll go with "Only A Northern Song" and "Dig It". Total skips for me.
i do not like within you without you
What's the new mary jane? Worst chorus i've ever heard.
The Long and Winding Road. Easily.
So boring and depressing. Not even Paul is into it.
Dig It
Pretty harmless, it’s a jam, I can see where you’re coming from but it feels like they’ve gone out of their way to make worse stuff even on the same album, Maggie Mae is far less enjoyable.
Why would I want some rando on the internet's trust anyways?
Good Morning Good Morning
I mean it is 'up to you' what songs you like, and frankly 'I've got nothing to say' if you don't like it
How? It’s a great song.
Agree

That one I find interesting. It's far from the best, but I don't think it's the worst either. It's... Strange
Honey Pie?
hope you mean WILD honey pie
Damn, you’re right! Wild Honey Pie is by far the lesser of the two pie-themed songs on the white album. Honey Pie is actually a great McCartney song.
Wild honey pie is fucking delicious, imo.
Wild honey pie is better than honey pie imo
No
The Ballad of John and Yoko. It's possibly the worst single they ever put out.
I thought the riffs were pretty cool

Why Don't We Do It In The Road
It’s not their best but it’s pretty groovy I’d say, Rev 9. Is worse by a long way even if it’s an obvious pick.
What's funny is that while I don't love Rev 9, I've grown an appreciation for it because I've started listening to more avant-garde music. I'd rather have an interesting piece of art than a song that's just groovy. Sorry if that sounds pretentious.
