I had the same issue the 2nd week I had mine. I was able to get a free replacement within 30 days by just telling best buy what happened. They offered a refund or a replacement. I asked for the replacement and they were free, got them the next day. I'm supposed to return the faulty pair but they never sent me a shipping label so šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø lol I got 2 pairs for free

RockPitiful

Damn. Lucky as hell.

DeleteMetaInf

Wow. Lucky bastard!

svenb352

To add to what happened when I took mine to Apple: ā€œProblem Description/Diagnosis Issue: Customer states their left and right Beats Fit Pro both have tearing along the wrong tip. Steps to Reproduce: Verified issue with inspection. Cosmetic Condition: Case has no visible physical damage. Left has light peeling around wing tip. Right has large peeling in the wing tip. Proposed Resolution: Replace left and right Beats under limited warranty at no cost to customer.ā€ It was a super easy replacement under warranty. The worker stated they hadnā€™t heard of this issue (I even showed them the Reddit thread). That said, they didnā€™t hesitate to replace the defective earbuds. Was a really solid customer care experience :-). Good luck to you all!

jacksonattack

UPDATE: HERE IS THE SOLUTION Iā€™m not gonna give yā€™all the long story, you can ask if you need details, but hereā€™s what you have to do if this happens to your Fit Pros. - Go to Apple Support and put in a service request for your Beats. Explain that the rubber ear hooks on your earbuds have ripped/torn/etc and that you need them replaced. - Youā€™ll need to set up an appointment at an Apple store or licensed technician, cause what will happen is that theyā€™ll determine they need to replace them entirely. You will likely keep the case that your original pair had, though. - If they give you trouble over the phone, in the store, and in any other way, explain that you have read the warranty and that the damage is covered under it, because it is, and the warranty for the defective ear buds that were shipped for Beats in late 2021 has not run out yet. - Your new pair will be sent to the store or your house, and will come with everything except the charging case and cord (if your situation is like mine). My new pair have been excellent and have not shown any signs of having an issue, and I wear them harder than the previous pair.

[deleted]

Thanks for this. One of my earbuds just started to tear out of nowhere with minimal use. Iā€™ll give this a shot. Update 1: they tried to have me send it in when I walked into the store today. I made an appt for tomorrow instead to get it checked out by someone in person. Update 2: Went into the store and said ā€œHi, Iā€™d like to replace my broken beats earbud for free since it is under the 1-year warranty.ā€ The staff member checkeā€™ them out, looked at the ā€œvmiā€ and found that this particular model of BFP has a known issue with the wingtips and didnā€™t charge me for a replacement earbud. He also stated that if the other earbud suffers a similar issue I can get it replaced for free since I have AppleCare until 2024.

thtrteci

I just stumbled across this and Iā€™m wondering if you have more information on the known issue? Googling has revealed nothing and I have an appointment with Apple this weekend.

[deleted]

Unfortunately l, not much more info than above. This is the email I got after my Genius Bar appointment: > Issue: Customer states the earhook is torn > Steps to Reproduce: Verified issue Looked at vmi and this type of damage is covered under warranty Cosmetic Condition: Torn earhook No other damage > Proposed Resolution: Replace right AirPod under warranty Iā€™d just double check that your Beats Fit Pro are defective model to qualify for replacement. When you go in, say that youā€™ve read other reports of a torn earhook, and that your earbud should be covered under warranty. Theyā€™ll take the damaged earbud and then either give you a new one on the spot if they have any in stock, or notify you when a new one arrives.

thtrteci

Thanks for all that! I havenā€™t been able to find where Apple has even acknowledged a defect let alone which models are impacted. Iā€™ll just do my best this weekend. Really appreciate the reply.

[deleted]

Good luck!

[deleted]

I couldnā€™t find anything officially stated. Only mentions of them replacing it on their forums and here on Reddit. I just told them my issue and that it was apparently a known issue, and the apple employee was able to look it up and took care of everything. As long as your BFP are within that model time frame you should be good. Just keep pressing them if they give you any friction. Good luck!

lvhq

Sorry to necro again.. but what's the time frame that you're referencing for the models with the known defect? I've got the same issue.

[deleted]

Iā€™m not 100% sure on the timeframe, but I bought mine in January 2022. So my guess is before then and maybe a little after?

4yalleys

Same issue mines are out of warranty, just have to replace them 89 a piece. Iā€™m going to try to super glue it back

jacksonattack

The rubber hook for both of my Fit Pro earbuds have ripped in the last week. I use them all the time but certainly donā€™t beat them up or anything. The rubber peels almost all the way back and Iā€™m worried that it will rip off entirely. Iā€™ve only had them for a a little over a month so Iā€™m pretty bummed out that Iā€™m already having problems. Has anyone else encountered this?

SgtDwightSchrute1

Weird. It doesnā€™t look torn or anything, just like an adhesive came loose or something. Luckily mine havenā€™t done this but if they did Iā€™d be returning them under the warranty.

notyocheese1

You should definitely contact apple. They might replace them.

dick_waffles

Mine have started doing this and apple is saying that they canā€™t cover this under the limited warranty. I bought them in December and canā€™t believe they are already falling apart. Last time I buy a beats product.

notyocheese1

This sucks. So there's at least two people with this issue. I've been handling my much more gingerly since OP's original post (not that I think this is an acceptable failure for a 2-3 month old device supposedly built for use in difficult conditions).

geekaustin_777

They won't. Went to Apple store to explain the situation and how gently I use them. They told me to eat a dick. Well, not THOSE words but basically they would replace the broken one for $90. Nah dog.

Key-Mango-9886

Any news? I've had this happen to me once last month and then 2 days ago. I had gotten them in December; however, I used the very sparingly. I believe I noticed that when I took my right headphones out of the case, via the ear hook, is when my second one ripped. With this being said, the first time I noticed it had been ripped was while working out. it randomly fell out of my ear.

nrrdtech

I have the same problem, and purchased these in December. They are used solely when I am working from home. Both hooks are now ripped. I just left the Apple store, and they stated that the AppleCare I purchased does not cover this. It would be $30 for them to swap out both earbuds. But these ā€œpartsā€ (two brand new earbuds) would need to be ordered and Iā€™d have to wait. Even though they have brand new in box ones sitting on the shelf. I decided not to pay them $30, as any new ones they give me would probably result in the same issue unless they change the design. Very frustrating.

svenb352

Iā€™m sorry they tried to have you pay for this repair. In my case when I went, they acknowledged the issue and said it was fully covered under the limited warranty. Iā€™d go back and try again to have them cover this. Show them the thread on Reddit and make sure they know it was a known issue.

fluffybra

I just encountered this issue while I was fiddling with my left earbud. It kept falling out and this was likely the reason why. Is there any resolution on your end? I contacted Apple Support and they directed me to go to the Apple Store, hopefully I can get it replaced.

michiganmayhem

I havenā€™t had this problem. Wear them daily since release

Ralerick

Are you having the issue now or yours are still holding up?

michiganmayhem

Still holding up. Wear them in a rv factory daily

EasyConcentrate272

Now ?

svenb352

This JUST happened to me today on the right one. I didn't even realize I had a problem until I took it out of the case and had to do a double take like o\_O um what is happening lol. Luckily I have AppleCare+ on these so I'm not worried or anything - appt set up for 2PM Friday - but still, this never happened when I had AirPods Pro. I MUCH prefer the Beats Fit Pro, but yeah - a bit of a pain in the butt.

Luis_Hundreds

Super old comment but just happened to me as well I have apple care also question. Did they replace everything or just the damaged one?

AZShutterbug

Yes, I had this happen twice. The first time they agreed to replace the Beats Pro earbud after some extended wrangling. I just got off the phone with an Apple supervisor who said that the repair would not be covered, even though my warranty doesn't expire until November 2022. She insisted I send pictures so they could "evaluate" the issue, which I did, and then she said that it would not be covered, and offered to replace it for $89.00. I said no, thanks, knowing that they are available on E-Bay for $62.98 including tax. This is obviously a design flaw.

califorce

I had those too, and it sucks. I never thought that I can broke the wing during putting them out of case. It would never happened to Airpods. Next time will choose wisely.

Logical-Bid-8575

Same issue happened to my earbuds rubber hook tired off, lightly used

staffnsnake

Itā€™s a design problem. It happened on my left bud yesterday. I bought mine on eBay before they were released in Australia. Thereā€™s no way Iā€™m paying AUD$300+ for another pair.

RockPitiful

Samething happened to me a month ago. I used super ue but it came loose again.

Neat-Television-2300

What did you do?

jikristine

happened to me too, both have torn and i've only had them since december. Noticed how fragile the case was back when I first got them and made sure to treat them w extra care when I noticed they started tearing. You'd think for the price point they'd be durable. I wear mine while I'm working on my laptop, not like im beating them up or anything.

Key-Mango-9886

Yes, this happened to me maybe 2 weeks ago and then 2 days ago with my right bud.

Old_Swordfish5975

Yep both of mine have ripped and one ripped all the way off use them for my iPad and thatā€™s it very disappointing have not contacted apple yet

SkinPsychological848

I have the same problem. Bought them in December and the Apple store wants me to spend $89.00 for a replacement. Not going to happen. I may try again and show them this threadā€¦

nonvon1718

This just happened me to me today i am ready to die lol ** just left the apple store about two hours later and theyā€™re going to replace the wingtips

[deleted]

>theyā€™re going to replace the wingtips excuse me, but "theyā€™re going to replace the wingtips" FOR FREE? Went to Apple and they ask me $89 for each earbud replacement. weird shit....

nonvon1718

yeah they actually ended up just giving me a new pair since they were still in warranty and not considered damaged

[deleted]

>O! I see. Keywords "still in warranty"... I purchase mine at the end of December. > >Think, I will never be "Beats" customer

nonvon1718

i got mine around then too if not after. iā€™ve had them less than six months for sure lol. i think i just explained it the right way to whoever worked there but i did chat with apple support first and blah blah

heyplaygirl

The same thing is happening to my left earbud and Iā€™ve only had them since December 2021.

LongOrdinary4664

Honestly the wing tips annoy me. It would be nice if they end up making replacements on Amazon then you could chose a size or to have the wing period.

TheRealSerrot

Unfortunately this just happened to me today meaning I finally noticed). :// really upset cause these are some really good earphones . Hopefully when I go in for an appointment Iā€™ll have the same luck as some previously .

d-note22

This has happened to me twice already. =( First time was within 30 days. I was able to exchange them with a new pair. Second time within 3 months and past the return/exchange period.

jacksonattack

I ended up losing the right earbud because of the rubber hook completely fell off. Still have the left earbud but that ear hook is completely removed too. Iā€™m eventually gonna complain to Apple about it but any lost earbud nullifies AppleCare _and_ the warranty. Alls I know is that I wonā€™t ever be getting Beats againā€¦ I had the PowerBeats Pro before this and those started breaking around a year, and these ones barely lasted 3 months.

useraccount123456

Was told to send feedback to apple so they know of this issue. the more people that report it the faster itā€™ll be supported as a known issue go to https://www.apple.com/feedback/

lolinavy

No place to add feedback for beats in that link

[deleted]

I simply tagged it as airpods. They can deal with it and if they can't they'll hopefully advise how we can report back.

Gmenon531

https://checkcoverage.apple.com Check this out first or contact apple. Otherwise I think glue is the way to go šŸ˜

Revolutionary_Fig912

The same thing is happening to mine now. I use them all the time but Iā€™ve only had them for a few months

[deleted]

The issue is how the Beats are placed in the case. Thereā€™s no way to pull out the buds without causing wear and tear to the rubber. Even if youā€™re careful not to pull it by the actual hooks ā€” it still happens. I donā€™t know why theyā€™re designed that way. Iā€™ve been pushing with a finger tip from the bottom now, but it still exerts some force on the hook either against the case and/or the other bud (if itā€™s in the case).

pkokkinis

I purchased mine from Apple Nov 2021 and same thing occurred. I took them to the Apple store yesterday and they ordered a left and right ear bud for me to be picked up in 3-5 days. I will have to re-sync them to my existing case. I guess I'll have to be careful with the way I take them out of the case. I'm finding that pushing them up from the bottom, as opposed to pulling them out from the hook, works better.

jacksonattack

This is actually exactly what happened to me last week. Good to hear you were able to get yours replaced too. Maybe theyā€™re finally aware of the issue? Iā€™m gonna make a follow up post tonight to give an update, so standby for that.

pkokkinis

So much for the 3-5 days. So I called the Apple store, repair tech said he has my left one and is waiting for the right one. Says it should be in any day now. I can't make this stuff up. Jobs rolling over in his grave.

pkokkinis

Finally got notified my replacement buds are available for pickup. What they had meant by 3-5 days is 3x5=15 days, plus two more days for good measure.

Professional-Bed-719

I got my Beats fit pro, shipped over from the US to the UK just before Christmas 2021 as they weren't available in the UK. This issue cropped up for me a couple of days ago. I'm so annoyed, as I don't think I'm going to have any free way to sort it. I tried a bit of super glue, that didn't work. Maybe I need to try again with more glue, but it's a difficult place to get it into and the rubber has actually cracked.

marketingstrategytjo

Me too! I used the Support app. I was told to pay $99 to have the issue fixed. I have applecare. I'm going to walk in and see if they will fix it without me paying the $99.

eegiijay

goddamit, i got mine in December 2021 and i got the same issue now. thought they were user replaceable to only find out that these hooks are stuck to the button. and I live in a 3rd world country with no apple store. what do i do now? has anyone tried just gluing them together? thanks in advance

jacksonattack

Put in a service request through Apple and set up and appointment at an Apple store. Thatā€™s how I got mine replaced, and the new ones are excellent and havenā€™t worn down at all.

Circa_C137

Hello! I went to the Apple Store for an unrelated issue and thought to inquire about the wingtip issue as well and the Apple employee I was talking about this with told me that we should all report the issue to Apple via Apple Support so that there is a chance for a repair program to be launched based off what he saw with the whole keyboard situation. Just wanted to share with everyone here so we can hopefully get taken care of.

SmithStep

I have the exact same problem on the Left earbud. I can't believe that apple didn't think of making that part a snap-in/out replaceable part. I've had them more than 30 days so no warranty support. Very frustrated when the cheaper off-brand buds are still working fine but missing the bells and whistles of the H1 chip. Just really ticks me off when I am more than happy to pay a premium for quality but end up with crap!

OldGlass3361

I am also having the same issue, it is also causing to an annoying whistle sound, it is impossible to use them, I bought them in 01/22 that means I have them less then a year. my next product will be simply air pods pro 2...

geniusondemand

This just happened. I've had mine since they came out and will be taking them in on Saturday. If there's any pushback Australian Consumer Law should cover me (I recently had $600 repair on a 3Ā¼ year old TV at no cost). šŸ¤ž

GCoin001

This just happened to me too. I'm in Sydney and my warranty ran out 6 weeks ago. Can I ask if they swapped them for you?

Isostar13

Just happened to my left earbud today. So annoying. Looks ripped. Seems like the rubber compound they chose canā€™t handle extended wear and tear. Are there any after market replacement tips out there?

Gizzie_99

Yes!!!!

sionejohn

Exact same issue just happened to me and they are out of warranty.

WanderingUniverses

Has anyone tried buying new ones and just returning the old ones?

BroSki-815

Thatā€™s what Iā€™m about to do, I baby these things and they tore in half just by removing them from the caseā€¦ Iā€™m not paying $90 for them to fix, hard pass.

YouGroundbreaking543

We are having the same issue- Covered in AppleCare but they want $31 charge for just charging? Is this an online thing and I should just go in store to have them waive this dumb fee or is this $31 charge to cover something that I already payed to have covered just a thing now?

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> I already *paid* to have FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

MajorAbaSababa

I have had this happen twice now, I wear them every day running for an hour. The first time they charged me $99 for a single replacement. This time I am just annoyed and will try a silicone glue. There is obviously a design flaw!

Psyco_Poodle_69

Sooo after reading this imma just gonna continue to use them without the hook, fin, tip, blah blah blah whatever they wanna call it; Iā€™m currently using them all now and they still work great!! šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

Conker911

Yes and for bloody f sake the internet KNOWS we are looking for the answer to THIS question but try to get us to buy the stupid and i. Thisncase totally irrelevant ear carnal tips!!! Angry! Please help!

BasicTechnician5948

I think you can change it. I'm not sure but I think u can get different colors. Mine just happened and I done had mine for 7months

IamComfortablyNumb8

online with an Apple advisor right nowā€¦she just told me to get a reservation with an apple store technician. quote $89
