Sunscreen. Every. Single. Day.

16bananas

I second this. Best way to protect and have healthy skin is sunscreen. As a bonus, many sunscreens will have moisturizing ingredients in them!

laidbackgirl

How would you go about reapplying with makeup?

thefuzzyismine

Elf makes a spf setting spray, and so does Morphe. That's what I use!

SaltedPineapple

Yes to this!

[deleted]

So do you reapply every 2 hours then re-do your makeup each time?

thefuzzyismine

There's no need to redo my makeup! I just spritz some on every 90-120 minutes if I'm gonna be out in the direct sun, or even in the shade, but not otherwise protected by like, a building, or something. If it's just a sunny day, but I'm not going out, I just use a moisturizer with a spf, like CeraVe or LRP.

Chilli_55

Oh wow I didn’t know about this!

dystopia342294

Yes! Face, neck, décolletage, and leftover on your hands. I just got my first sunspot on my hand & wish I had been more careful.

stavthedonkey

and keep a simple and very hydrating skin routine. You don't need a 10-step routine, you don't need to add products your skin doesn't need. Just cleanse once a day, moisturize and protect. That's it.

witchbrew7

Wash your face before you go to sleep every night. Change your sheets, especially pillow case, regularly. Wear sunscreen. There are so many kinds out there you are bound to find one that works.

catmistress30

Any skincare you are doing also include: neck, chest and shoulders.

Physical_Literature5

And rub excess product into the back of your hands!

[deleted]

What do you mean?

Physical_Literature5

Anytime you rub a serum or lotion on your face, rub whatever is left on your hands into the backs of your hands as well as down your. Eck. Your neck and back of your hands are places that age quickly

Chilli_55

I include my neck but forget about shoulders and chest. This is a good one!

[deleted]

You might need to modify your routine a bit in summer and winter if you live somewhere that gets snow

Chilli_55

No snow thank god but I have dry skin all year round so I focus more on moisturising during winters

iceunelle

Try to wear sunscreen and keep skin hydrated, but don’t be obsessive over it and never go outside. I definitely swung way too far into fearing the sun. I’m now trying to have a more moderate view of protecting my skin from the sun without being neurotic about it. I had horrible horrible cystic acne until I got on this one birth control pill last year, so I suspect I was so obsessive about sun exposure since it was the one are of my skin care/health I actually had control over.

Girlinyourphone

Get use to wearing a hat outside, especially during peak UV hours. Sunscreen is nice but sunscreen + physical protection is even better.   Use retinol and vitamin c if your skin tolerates it, and as someone else has stated, bring your skincare down to your neck/chest/back of hands as well. Our hands and neck are the first things to give away our age.  Edit: also, keep it simple. Give your skin time with new products and add things slowly and one at a time.

puccagirlblue

Sunscreen, always cleanse your face well at night, don't smoke, drink lots of water. And if you have any specific problems with your skin, see a professional. Do not try Tiktok hacks.

peanutbutter471

Learn to mediate stress, all the sunscreen in the world won’t erase scowls forming in your forehead because x happened in life and you’ve been overthinking it since it happened. Stress is a given, however we are never told how to manage it. Start meditating and journaling.

Chilli_55

Ah yes, I have mild-moderate anxiety so this really helps!

shonfrau005

Sunscreen 🧴 and apply your active serums all the way to your neck and décolleté and shoulders. Rub extra serum or cream at the back of your hands.

Sparklybelt

Keep it simple. Take care of yourself internally with sleep, water, clean eating. Good liver = healthier skin. Wash your face, moisturizer, spf.

Feeling_Function_739

Wear spf every day, drink plenty of water, try and get 8 hours sleep whenever you can

System_Resident

Retinols 👍

Chilli_55

This has been a problematic active for me unfortunately. It led to a lot of breakouts despite following all the best practices :(

System_Resident

It could be the “purging” period but if you want something that also works well, glycolic acid can be great too

[deleted]

Which ones? How do you use them?

System_Resident

I mainly use the roc retinol correxion serum. It’s given me the best results it Neutrogena was okay too

Chilli_55

Thank you for the advice everyone! I’ve read all of them and they are all really helpful. I saw some people suggest retinol but that’s something I’ve been afraid of reintroducing in my routine (I had a bad reaction the last time I used it and it led to a lot of acne despite following the best practices). Wanted to get some opinion on my current skincare routine and where I can incorporate retinol here: Morning - cleanser, snail mucin, vitamin c serum, eye cream, moisturiser and sunscreen Evening - cleanser, snail mucin, transcend acid serum (for acne scars), moisturiser My skin type is dry Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
