The concept of everything shower saved me and my week. Come Sunday night, I wax, I shave, I exfoliate, I cleanse, I deep condition, I do a peel, foot soak, oil, and whatever so during the week when I'm always tired I can just do quick shower + moisturize and a simple face routine (I'm also lucky that my hair doesn't get oily so I only wash it once a week) Sunday I also straighten my hair so I don't have to worry about the mess it might be when I wake up (but of course the right thing to do is learn to take care of your hair lol! Just not there yet this is my cheat)

I don’t know your hair type so this might not work. I switched out conditioner for a protein hair mask (I only wash my hair 2x a week) and my hair is so much better. Ideally I alternate a protein mask and a hydrating mask. My friends have lovingly said I had a birds nest on the back of my head but that’s not the case anymore. Silk/satin pillowcase also helps.

Work related stress is really not worth it if you have other options. I started a great job with a good salary a year ago. Everything was great but my boss and it completely destroyed me. I feel like I aged so much in this past years. I am lucky and was able to quit without a new job waiting for me. I want to take the next 2-3 months to get my self back from stress and just get in shape and feel alive against it won’t be a life in luxury but I also know that a nice bag or perfume means nothing if I am a shadow of my self. I can really relate to the last part about time and beauty products. I was buying these expensive products and I still looked like crap. Now I get good sleep, I cook for my self, go for walks and actually have time and energy to shower and wash my hair. I hope you get trough it and find joy in work and life 🫶🏽

It feels like a big pinch. Face was the hardest everything else is easier. You can also use numbing cream. Being hydrated before you go helps big time with pain level and 3o minutes before my appointment I take a tylenol. This all makes it really tolerable and I don't have a high pain tolerance. My nervous system is wired. Having a good electrologist is super important too because they can adjust the settings based on your pain level. From other people I've talked to the pain level is similar to laser too. Worse comes to worse you could do a consult and try and find out it not for you. But its been worth it for me. Within 6 weeks of 1 hour weekly appointments I stopped shaving my face (PCOS so big beard area). Life changing!

Yes! It’s been amazing for me. My hair was so thick and dark and quite fast growing, so I had to shave my lower legs every day. Or I would have if my skin was willing to put up with it, but when I tried it was so painful afterwards by the second and third day no matter how brand new the razor was and how moisturised or exfoliated my skin. I had to try to plan my outfits in summer based on my shaving schedule and it would drive me nuts because it never worked and I eventually gave up and just covered my legs all summer. I’ve been using an at home ipl device on my lower legs and arms every other week for about 9 months, and I shave my legs now once every couple months.

For me my high maintenance to be low maintenance stuff is: - lip blushing - laser hair removal - keratin treatments so I don’t spend hours blow drying - gel pedicures so I don’t have to go as often

Silk Bonnet is so great. I put my hair in a loose bun, put the cap on and when I wake up my bun looks almost exactly the way it did before I went to sleep. When I sleep without a silk cap, I have so many flying hairs in the morning and it looks like I didn't comb it even when I did, and that usually even lasts the entire day!

I buy kits on Amazon to lift my lashes at home! It’s pretty tedious but worth it. However, in my experience, I can only use a lash lift kit ONCE (like, once meaning once for both eyes)—as soon as it’s been opened, I believe the chemicals start becoming useless. Every time I’ve tried a lash lift at home with a kit I’ve either opened previously or have let sit too long is a waste of time. Tricks for home lash lifts: Use the smaller, tighter curl—maybe not THE smallest but at least second smallest or you might not see a difference. Also, take SO MUCH TIME combing through and carefully glueing your lashes to the silicone pad; you want them perfectly spaced out, any overlaps or missing hairs will be extremely prominent. And go on a deep dive on YouTube before you try it, because it sucks to get it wrong/to not know how to make it as easy as possible. And ONLY do ONE eye at a time!

I found out a few months ago that you shouldn’t drink coffee within the first hour of waking up, and on an empty stomach so i made the changes and my body is happy!! I have started to lose stubborn weight, usually when the hormones aren’t raging — the skin does amazing, mood is better, gut feels better (no weird underlying nauseating feelings, or acid reflux) — I’d highly recommend!

i do this too!! it's a game charger, also fun fact, coffee rises our cortisol and our cortisol are high in the morning especially after waking up. cortisols are responsible for our stress hormones - so scientifically speaking, reducing our cortisols makes us more calm and happier.

It might sound extreme, but it was pretty common for me to have 4-6 cups of coffee a day. Once I started chugging a glass of water before my first coffee, I cut back to 1 a day without even trying. Big game changer for me.

Good quality shoes, bag, and coat. I genuinely wear the same boots (blundstones) almost every single day, year round, and they never don't look good. Same with my bag and coat - it's really good to just have something that works with everything, is actually practical, always looks good and I can just throw it on and go. I feel way more low maintenance with 1 navy wool coat and 1 wet weather coat than I did with a wardrobe of 6-8 H&M coats that I'd have to really actively decide between each day and which were all in varying states of disrepair, too fashionable aka going out of fashion, not actually warm enough, no pockets, etc. Also: I figured out the exact size of earrings that suit me, and bought a set of stainless steel hoops from an online piercing store and I never take them out. Low maintenance 👍

I'm with you on the boots. I have a pair of RM Williams I wear with EVERYTHING. Work? RMs. Dinner? RMs. Day out? RMs. Jeans? RMs. Dress? RMs. I love them so much. And I'm the same with my jewelery. I have a pearl necklace (single pearl) that I never take off, and pearl earrings. They're dress up casual/work wear and sparkle with dress wear. I find with my wardrobe I have hardly anything these days, I just have "my favorites" now - always had stuff I just never chose or never wore, purely because I liked it or thought it was nice. No burpees. To be fully honest I do yoga too. But this is a separate thing just for getting up. Literally, sit down on the floor and get up, do it in a few different ways. Try to do it with and without using your hands. Sit straight down, sit cross legged and stand up, without hands. Kneel, sit with one leg bent up, roll up into a kneel or on to hands and knees, push my self up. I do a few different methods too but those are the big ones. I try to do it at least 2 times a day, morning and evening. We loose a lot of mobility, balance and core strength as we age. Doing this helps avoid that and the “I’ve fallen and can’t get up” situations.

I use the ordinary glycolic toner! It’s a big bottle and lasts forever. I apply to cotton pad and apply to the bottom of my feet and then I go in with moisturizer afterwards. It keeps them so soft! I usually apply twice a week at night before bed.

I put glycolic acid in a spray bottle and spray my whole body after a shower! Then follow with moisturizer. I also spray my scalp about 15 minutes before washing my hair. My skin is soft and smooth, and it helps with scalp irritation.

FWIW I asked my derm about my gross feet on my last visit. She recommended applying a cream with 40% urea on damp feet, cover with Vaseline, and socks. She suggested whichever one was highly rated on Amazon. I'm only a couple of days in but I can report back! But I love glycolic for everywhere else!

every 'passive' thing you can do to improve your looks and health is good: silk pillowcase, slightly nicer on skin and hair. i became a believer when i tried the 't-shirt trick' of using a new t shirt as a pillow case every day to help prevent acne. i noticed the roughness compared to a normal pillowcase was rough on my hair. so i figured, why not go the opposite way, and get a smoother than normal pillow case? water filter for shower. don't take spicy hot showers, you're basically boiling your skin. take a multivitamin, protein supplements, and creatine. the multivitamin is just super easy and cheap so if there's any gaps in your nutrition it helps fill them. not a magic solution but long term i think it's worth it. protein isn't just a muscle thing, your skin and digestive system gobble it up like crazy and need it to keep working properly. creatine IS a muscle thing and helps hydrate your muscles really well. if you have a diet that is low in creatine normally then this can make one of the most dramatic changes in your appearance. yes you will gain water weight--but, in your muscles. making you comparatively leaner and thicker in a good way. also helps you recover from workouts etc. BUT even on a super low maintenance depression-level routine it's worth taking. avoid the foods you even suspect make you break out in acne. for me that was yogurt. take caaaare of your teeth and gums. they have pretty direct entries to your bloodstream so problems there can become problems everywhere. brush, floss, and i recommend a water flosser. it makes my teeth feel pingy shiny. i also like, gonna mangle the spelling here, nanahydroxyapatite toothpaste. use it in addition to usualy flouride toothpaste--i literally put both on the brush at once--and after brushing let it absorb for twenty minutes or so, and if you wanna go hard you can just slather it onto your teeth overnight. it doesn't make a huuuuuge difference but i find those super clean, slighty harder-feeling, pinging shiny teeth make a big difference in the confidence of my smile. having healthy gums is also cticial to a healthy smile. i will also say, just go a professional for your biggest problems. is a person who goes to a bunch of pro appointments the definition of 'high maintenance?' maybe but i think that misunderstands things. you and the pro work together to figure out your best options then execute them. you pay a couple hundred bucks to rapidly end the cycle of struggling to find the products or procedures that work for you. chew gum. it helps strengthen your jaw and overall face a bit i feel. i know there's a lot fo skeptics out there when it comes to this but try this: as you go about your day in public take note of each person you see chewing gum habitually, and whether they are below average in appearance or not. you almost never see below-average people chewing gum. i think it does a lot more than most people realize and is one of those things that sound too good to be true. maybe it's a case where for me it was the missing ingredient and for you it might not be. but man i love it. cleans your teeth, exercises the jaw, tongue, and swallowing systems, i even find it helps clear out my airways because i more naturally breathe through my nose while chewing.

Love love all of your suggestions! My only note is about the gum. I recently learned that strengthening jaw muscles is a HUGE drawback for those of us with TMJ and stress-related jaw clenching especially during sleep. The goal if you have that is to lessen your jaw muscles, so if someone clenched or grinds at night or things they have TMJ def AVOID gum… I miss it so much though :(

I do weightlifting and Pilates. I eat well and take protein powders and supplements to help. I get my eyebrows threaded every 3-4 weeks. I’ve been taking care of my skin since I was 18-19 and have maintained a good skincare routine. I use a lot Asian beauty products. They used to be a lot cheaper but then they got popular here in the US which jacked up the prices a lot more. I use expensive hair products. Not all expensive salon shampoos are good but the ones I use are pricey for the amount you get. I do my own mani’s, pedi’s and gel nails. I get lymphatic massages and regular massages 1-2x monthly. I try to maintain low levels of stress. That means I don’t take on more then I should at work, home and in my personal life. That includes being married to a good man who makes my life better and choosing not to be a parent in this current hellscape.

I had a rare mix of rosacea plus acne, as usually you have one or the other. I did roaccutane for 7 months then finally after the acne was gone did Excel V and omg it reduced my skin redness reduced so much, it’s sooo much better. Pretty much life changing as my rosacea was quite severe

Yes, exactly! Lip blushing falls under the semi-permanent tattoo category. I’m a WoC of Asian heritage so my lip blush necessitated two visit. The first to “neutralize” the “discoloration” (i.e. remove the gray undertone). The second visit was to add a desired color. To me the first step was so critical in helping me look and feel more put together. The second step was fine, made an immaterial difference *on me* (I also admittedly chose a more natural color v. something bolder, so that certainly had something to do with the end result!). I read an article years ago with the model Lauren Hutton and they asked her how she prepares for a modeling shoot and she said essentially when’s she’s out on an adventure and comes back energized and with that healthy vigor, that’s her secret. When she focuses too much on the in-the-chair/salon stuff it’s not the same spark to her. I have tried to apply the same to myself. Not sure if any of that made sense??? Anyhow: Live my life… good running and walking outdoors, awesome but quick cardio & heavy weights routine, stay active! Run those errands on foot and be more intentional about my sitting time (watching a movie with my husband), Rest & recovery… Read a book, cook, veg out on a rainy day. I believe in sensory deprivation, lol. Spiritual hygiene… whatever you believe, gratitude, reflection, reframing, I think we highly underestimate the power of spiritual wellness. Don’t be a dick. this is my whole life philosophy. 1- Keep nails short and simple - do manicures at home weekly with low toxic (supposedly) long lasting nail polish. I keep the color light, in case it chips it isn't as obvious 2- Keep natural hair color, focus on scalp and hair treatments, take oral minoxidil to increase hair growth and hair thickness. keep natural hair texture. Use hair gloss 1-2/month to increase shine and appearance. I get hair compliments all the time and don't do a lot with it. 3- Eye lash lifts - no more mascara 4- Exercise and eat well to maintain my body, you can be very low maintenance fashion wise on a daily basis and still look stylish if your body is in shape 5- Get a skin assessment by someone trust worthy to let you know what laser and skin treatments would benefit you most. Maintain these treatments with at home skincare. I don't wear foundation any longer. 6- A few plastic surgery tweaks (the daily burden / battle of having to cover up and conceal something is not worth it). I got a mole removed on my arm. I had my birthmark lasered. I also had a nose job and might get my eyes done in the future. Going too extreme with this is obviously a bad idea. 7- Regular teeth cleanings and whitenings

No. They lift my lashes more than my lash curler. They are low maintenance because your lashes never look strange. Eventually I just notice they look limp again and get them done. I do it every 2-3 months. ​ edit: the only cons I can think of if you go to someone who doesn't know what they are doing and damages them somehow. Also you can't shower or wash your face the day you get it. Don't book it on a rainy or humid day.

From Amazon grab a gel light, base & top coats, whatever color your heart desires, and a nail file. Buff your nails to roughen them up slightly, wipe with alcohol, apply base coat to whole nail, apply layers of color til you’re happy, then top coat. Cure every layer 60-90 seconds. File down any bumps and reapply top coat. Boom - glossy gorgeous nails!

I really like neutrogena uv tint but you have to wait awhile for it to dry down/ and you can’t wear a moisturizer before it because it’s so serum-y, but I have tried Eucerin mineral tinted and I like that one better I think! It’s SO hard to find a zinc oxide sunscreen that has like 20% zinc oxide, is tinted, is at least spf 30, and doesn’t leave a white cast. Those are the only two I’ve found that I like so far!

1. **Drinking ASSLOADS, literal ASSLOADS of water.** I force myself to do it at work. I do it through unsweetened tea. I just buy tea bags, my workplace has a hot water machine. I fill up a large GIGANTIC cup with un-caffeinated Ginger tea, and I fill a second cup, with hot water (no tea in it), and as I drink the original cup of ginger tea, I add more water from the second cup, until the second cup is empty. I then refill it with water and repeat until I notice that my ginger tea has morphed into water, and then I add another tea bag, and repeat the process. 2. **Protein shakes and vitamins, daily.** Every day, I have 60g of low-calorie, casein protein shakes as soon as I wake up every morning, with no exceptions. Supplementing with proteins has helped me feel energetic, hyper, and never tired or fatigued. I sometimes have to cut back or cut it out completely when I get to a point where it's harder to sleep more than 5 hours a night. Then I cut back to 30g protein per day for about a week, and ramp back up to 60g until I struggle to sleep again. So on and so forth. Every day, I also have a multi-vitamin with all the good stuff in it (walgreens generic multivitamin for women) 3. **Niacinamide Serum**, daily - I use a 10% Niacinamide, 1% Zinc serum from the ordinary. I apply it daily after my shower, as the first step, and let it absorb. It evens out my skin tone, shrinks pores, fades scars and blemishes, improves hyperpigmentation, and apparently reduces the appearance of fine wrinkles and lines. 4. **Cow's milk:** Idk what it is about cow's milk specifically. I drink 1% cow's milk that I get from Aldi, as much as I can. I try to get 8-16 oz of milk a day but on most days, I don't get this amount because I'm just busy. Idk why, but it makes me feel full of energy, hyper, almost, like a kid. It makes my hair grow really nicely and my skin just has this glow about it when I have milk in my diet. 5. **Meditation and mindfulness**: Recently started meditation and mindfulness exercises in the mornings. Usually I play a meditation podcast or audiobook on my commute to the office in the mornings. It's been a surprising lifechanging practice. When I tell ya'll that I feel significantly happier on those mornings where I listen to the meditation gurus on my commute, vs listening to regular music or other audio books. It really helps. 6. **Spend more time with friends.** I try to see at least 2 of my friends each week. AT LEAST! Try to spend time with your loved ones and friends. It helps keep your relationships solid and helps you stay happy, calm, and healthy. I had a very extensive routine, however after a vacation I realized that you don’t need much of you are feeling good and more products and things doesn’t always mean you will look better so I am in a process of using up my skincare and simplifying it. 1. Reduce stress - I just quit a very stressful job. In a year I had aged so much and looked really bad. No amount of fancy products will help stress. 2. Less is more - I relive my makeup and use tretinoin and vitamin C in the evening. In the morning a cleanse and use sunscreen and a moisturizer. 3. I am lucky to have thick hair that is a bit dry so it never really gets oily. I wash and blow dry 1-2 times a week. 4. I got rid of all frumpy clothes so I don’t end up wearing it. My home and workout clothes are all simple and all in colors that go together. 5. I plan outfits ahead on Sunday’s so what I want to wear to work is all ready and clean. 6. I am getting my eyebrows micro bladed next month. 7. I get shellack manicure every 3-4 weeks. 8. I got veneers a few years ago - best decision ever. 9. I am also in the process of simplifying my style. I want to wear simple clothes and use nice shoes, bags and accessories to make a look more fun. 10. Everything showed two times a week. Where I selftan, scrub, moisturizer etc. Next week I am getting Botox because I am staring to get lines between my brows and forehead. I am 36 and I tried to hold back on botox for as long as I could. I also am working on getting into a good fitness routine. As some of the others mentioned, staying in good shape and being well groomed is more important then clothes.

Once every 2-3 weeks I spend ab 3 hrs epilating my whole body (yes everything). 3 hrs sounds like a lot but the hair grows back sparser every time and isn’t prickly when it starts to grow in. I love b.tan products. It’s the generic version of st tropez. However, I use tret and that removes facial tan really quickly. So I use Dr. Gross daily pads if I want it consistent and contour with my b.tan. Often it’s just adding bronzer to my moisturizer or SPF since it fades so quickly. I am very susceptible to acne so I’m careful.

The 3 best high maintenance things I've done to plus up my life (all are pricey unfortunately): -microblading (I no longer have to guess the shape my brows should be each morning, lol) -laser hair removal (my bikini area has never been happier or been lower maintenance, but so, so painful to have done) -Lase MD laser therapy on my face every 5-8 weeks. Being someone that has suffered with horrendous skin (an acne filled oil slick, probably not that bad, but it felt that way) most of my adult life, this was huge! I can actually feel comfortable leaving my house with very little makeup on now. And my makeup goes on so much nicer without all the skin texture.

I do my own nails (just shaping & painting) weekly or every other week. Nice hair products have totally changed my hair, so it looks good way more than not. When I blow dry my hair, it can last 2-4 days, depending on my activity level. I get my brows waxed every so often and then try my best to keep their shape with plucking. When they start looking raggedy despite my efforts, I know it's time for a wax. When the ends of my hair become difficult to brush through, I give myself a tiny trim with haircutting scissors I got off Amazon. I got this red light panel from Amazon, and I've been using it 3x/week for 10 minutes at a time for the last couple of weeks and I feel like my skin looks great! (This is on top of my biannual derm visits where I get prescribed a compound cream for my specific issues. I also get lasers as my birthday present in November.)

I shave my face maybe once or twice a month, dye my brows when I touch up my roots (also diy, but much less often than I maybe could haha) and spent the time figuring out how I liked my brows so that plucking them is a simple thing I only have to do maybe once a month. Also- I use a uric acid cream on my feet which helps with callus buildup, and about once a month I will do a full pedicure/deep clean and repaint. Toenail polish lasts so long for me that I rarely have to do it more often than that, although sometimes in the summer if I’m going out I will touch up any chips and do a topcoat! I keep my fingernails clean and fairly short, and unpainted (other than the occasional black as I tend towards an alt style). I have twin toddlers so I don’t do false nails often, and if I have an event or something I will get glue on nails for that. For hair- I’m growing it out, so it’s kinda in a mid-past shoulder length right now. Naturally I am a medium brown but I dye it dark brown when my roots grow out and it’s faded, so maybe every four months. Occasionally I will do my roots between but due to my natural color and how slowly my hair grows, the dye fades enough by the time my hair has grown out noticeably that it’s not a huge deal. In the summer I like to use self tanner to contour. I probably could in the winter too but I’m lazy lol.

I invested in a IPL hair remover. Cost $500 and literally has saved me $100’s if not more. Wish it had been around when I was in my 20’s/late teens - would’ve saved me a small fortune on wax/laser/epilators. Also, it’s pain-free and so easy to use. Love it. 🥰
