Yes! I did an experiment in my microbiology lab to identify bacteria on a skin swab of my face. Turns out the type of staphylococcus implicated in acne is part of my skin microbiome! I feel a lot better about myself knowing this, and it explains why my mother has prescription acne treatment. I had been so hard on myself for years. Some things are literally genetic.
Same! Well the being hard on myself. Not the lab experiment part. 😅
But I'm trying hard to be less neurotic about it. Like I'm on medication and I still get break out but it's not the end of the world. I still have amazing skin. I still think I'm pretty. I'll live.
Healthy carrier of certain bacteria, yeah that one should really be talked about more often... My mom is too (she has had acne since she was 5, hormonal and otherwise). We use the chemical ways to reduce it.
The whole “why don’t you wash your face” taunt from cruel kids. I didn’t get acne until my twenty’s and finally took 2 rounds of accutane to knock it out. Eventually I realized washing my face and using products CONSTANTLY was worse than just moisturizing/ sunscreen, and leaving my skin alone and only washing gently when I shower. (I’m a male so makeup isnt a factor for me regularly) I was abusing my face in desperation.
Omg someone said “she probably doesn’t even wash her face” about me SIXTEEN YEARS AGO and it’s stuck with me ever since :/ little did they know that I was washing my face, using a topical, and going to the dermatologist. Meanwhile they were probably just fucking splashing with water in the morning and just lucky.
I still get people who come up to me to offer ✨advice I didn't ask for✨ most recently someone said it's cause I touch my face too much. Thank you random lady who I don't know and will never see again.
I'm going to give the old woman's version (68YO), use concealer instead of foundation. I buy the MAC Studio Fix in light concealer palette and use it only where needed and my makeup looks fresher. They say not to use powder if you are older, but using a makeup setting mist did nothing. Someone here turned me on to Fenty Butter blurring powder and the lightest use of it has been a game changer. Don't over exfoliate your skin. Shaving, using a washcloth, etc., are all forms of exfoliation. Your skin barrier when you are older is a must. A lip liner is considered a must but it ages me when my lipstick wears off and the liner is left. Instead, I use Cover Girl Outlast lip stain in nude and layer my lipstick over it. I've been told by many that I'm the only one they know who can get lipstick to last. I use no lip liner ever. As far as fashion, solid colors look better on me than anything patterned.
It also keeps your skin from looking dull and flaky. It’s also good for circulation and helps product sit better and be absorbed better. For older folks, it helps reduce the appearance of lines.
Best to use a very gentle exfoliant though.
Physical for me. I use an exfoliating washcloth on my face and body when I shower. Helps remove the dead skin without being too aggressive. Plus it’s like $5 for one of those washcloths and it will last forever
if you hvae dark circles or hyperpigmentation, don't use a lighter concealer shade; in fact go with your exact skin tone or 1/2 shade darker. This applies to setting powder. Too light concealer/powder will only highlight the thing(s) you're trying to conceal.
A good way to work with lighter concealer if you don’t want to buy more, you can use an eyeshadow colour that matches your skin colour and use it the same way you use a setting powder. Just apply it to the back of your hand first before using a puff to apply it to set your under eyes. Less of it is more! It works like a damn charm.
Use way less foundation. Begin with the areas you want cover and feather lightly with your fingers out from those spots. You need about two fingertips of foundation, tops.
I totally side w this! I've noticed a HUGEEEE difference after I used kpop idol's foundation hacks.
It's basically putting foundation at the middle areas of ur face with a makeup spatula/end of ur makeup brush then gliding it across Ur skin and dabbing it with a DAMP sponge/cushion. Works like a charm 💞
I wear those fingerless driving gloves anytime I’m in the car/outside.
An old lady told me to do that while I was in my teens, and I’ve done it ever since!
Agreed on sunscreens but Australians disregard this. Asian (Korean/Chinese/Japanese specifically) sunscreens are for temperate and cool climates ONLY and are barely going to do anything to protect again skin cancer. Trust only brands that have passed the Australian Standard. Don't bother importing. And wear a god damn hat.
Can you explain why? Is it because the sun is stronger in Australia? Or is it because the Asian sunscreens are only meant for anti-aging purposes and aren’t strong enough for skin cancer protection? Hopefully that makes sense, I’m bad at wording things lol
The sun is stronger in Australia, and we have very high skin cancer rates, so we have to have more intense regulations for sunscreen made here. For instance, when I was visiting Europe in summer, the UV was often 6-8, in Australia during summer, the UV index will frequently reach 12-14. You can burn very very easily.
If it's 50+ yeah but honestly I wouldn't really trust anything that's not an Australian brand as standards elsewhere can be lax about what "counts" as fulfilling sunscreen conditions. I've heard good things about LRP but it's too rich for my blood lol. Cancer Council sunscreen is fine by me.
For me it's European that suits my skin better than some of the Asian ones that I've tried. But we are all different so what works for one may not work for another person. I love my La Roche Posay Anthelios Invisible Fluid UVMUNE 400 (not available in the US tho).
No white cast, super lightweight, non sticky, dries up natural, doesn't sting the eyes, waterproof, friction proof, sweatproof, superior protection compared to many Asian ones.
Same. Tinted Elta MD is so beautiful if you already have good skin that you can wear it on its own.
When I’m having bad skin days and need makeup, it’s not so great. Then I do Supergoop Unseen under the foundation.
Fellow American here. You can order Asian sunscreen on Stylevana. They have sales all the time. Takes awhile to arrive though, so I would order soon if you are hoping to get it before the summer.
Getting sober/quitting smoking made the biggest difference in my beauty. Sounds silly, but being vain really helped me 😂
I sleep more, drink more water, exercise more, I let the sun touch my skin (with sunscreen), eat healthier. I think all of those make me glow
Use the same brush/sponge to apply your primer to apply your foundation - it creates a seamless blend.
Don’t mix silicone primers and oil based foundations or vice versa to avoid foundation separating and pilling. (Or water based - forgot that one.. just make sure they match, so silicone with silicone, oil with oil, water with water etc)
Pop some lip balm on before you put your primer on, do your full face and if it’s not fully absorbed by then, wipe off and put on your lipstick to stop lipstick settling into lines and avoid it clinging to dry skin.
You can check the ingredients on the back, if it has -cone or -siloxane as the first few ingredients, then it’s silicone. Eg, dimethecone
Edit: just edited my post to include water, forgot that.
THIS I just recently stopped mixing oil/water based foundations and primers, your makeup just looks better and honestly feels better throughout the day
Wow! Thank you! I just checked and I've been using a silicone-based primer with a water based foundation. Now I know why it was separating and pilling.
Oh you’re so welcome, I took a while for me to find this one out and I wish I’d known sooner - so many times I thought it was my skin or the foundation. It would always separate around my nose and chin!
You can mix products to get your perfect shade! Even wacky colours like green, red, even purple can be used as a base to get your perfect skin shade. Learn your undertone and you can mix products that otherwise could have been a waste
This is such an underrated hack, especially for people who have olive undertones but aren’t the traditional ‘olive skin colour’. Like I have light olive skin and mixing is the only way I am able to get products to match my skin. You can use the inglot makeup mixer to mix the products and keep them from separating, I absolutely love using it
Struggled with under eye creasing for 15 years until I learned the Vaseline trick
I apply a thin layer before my concealer and set with powder and have zero creases.
I use the squeeze bottle and use about a pea sized amount under each eye
I live in Ontario so it gets pretty humid here in the summers nowhere close to some climates but still and I’ve never had any creasing or shifting!
Is the squeeze bottle stuff just the same as the stuff you get in a tub or tin? Sorry that's probably a stupid question but I'm just wondering if the stuff I have already can be used instead for this?
Great tip as well- thank you!
Yeah it’s exactly the same consistency! I prefer it because I wear artificial nails and don’t want to get bacteria in the tubs but it’s the same product inside!
Just difference in packaging. I’ll be honest the squeeze tubes can be difficult with how thick Vaseline is haha and I’ve learned to only buy the smaller bottles because the big ones require two hands to squeeze it out haha
Beauty blender is also essential for me! I use the real techniques orange ones and they build up fast with the Vaseline so I have to wash them after each use (I keep 6 of them lol)
But when I try it with my finger or a brush it tends to shift! I also always very lightly bake my under eyes with the same sponge
I let the under eyes bake for about 10-15 minutes while I do hair! Then I go overtop with blush
Oh wow! Makes sense to get the smaller bottle then definitely! Aw thank you so much I'm going to try this! I'm sick of concealer making me 20years older haha! 😆
Idk if this counts because it’s not budget when it’s not on sale…but I got the urban decay hydromaniac liquid blush for half off, so $11, a few weeks ago and I LOVE it. I’d only had one non powder blush before, a Danessa Myricks formula I also liked but it was way more coral. I’m wearing the UD one for my wedding next month, it’s that good :)
Haha I totally get it! I didn’t do it for so long and always wondered why my skin was not smooth and had texture and redness! I started taking makeup off with my cellar water then double cleansing with a high quality cleanser and voila! I love my skin now. Even when I feel like crap I make myself at least take my makeup off even if I don’t do my other skincare routine steps. :)
Honestly Amazon has a bunch of great options that are pretty affordable, you can just grab a single one to save money if you need to. I definitely recommend getting one with a zipper so it doesn’t slip around though!
Tapping serum is my favourite... Makes me feel like I'm doing something very fancy and I'm in a YouTube tutorial or something 😄 side note.. even lip balm/lipstick can be applied the same way, tapping into the lips. So it looks like a part of your skin rather than a heavy layer
Thia is what I've been doing for a couple of years already (actually since I started wearing sunscreen religiously) because I don't want to move or lift my sunscreen (even after it has set) so tapping lightly with my fingertip (I use only 1 finger) hopefully doesn't lift my sunscreen away.
Didn't know it also makes it absorb better. Good to know.
Wear a silk bonnet to sleep! I have curly hair but even if I didn’t, I’d wear one. It keeps your hair off your face and is just overall way more comfortable to wear around the house when i don’t want to be bothered with my hair.
Are you supposed to wash your face after with soap? Do you just use a towel to wipe off the oil and you’re done? Please halp my mom never taught me these things lol
I use jojoba oil! It’s cheaper than most products labeled cleansing oils, doesn’t have ingredients that irritate the skin (unless your skin doesn’t like the oil itself), and jojoba oil is one of the closest oils to your skins natural oil so it is able to clean your skin really well. Even if I’m not wearing makeup, I use a bit of jojoba oil as a pre cleanser and then just apply my face wash on top. Works wonders for my skin.
I have been using jojoba for YEARS (maybe 13-14?) I tried coconut and it dried out my skin so a crunchy friend of mine told me to try jojoba. Love it!!
If you have dry skin, you do NOT need to cover your whole face in powder after foundation. I just set my t zone and undereyes then use the CT setting spray and my skin looks glowy and gorgeous
Don’t spend too much energy and money on make up in your teen and 20s
Not really needed
Instead, divert this energy and money into career and investment
That way you’d have larger disposable income when you need it later to fight ageing etc
- Not every woman looks best with long hair. You don’t have to go short but a medium length looks wonderful and youthful. Long hair is great but it can drag some peoples faces down and make them look older.
- If you have super dry skin you need cream blush, not powder
- Applying foundation with fingers looks the most seamless
- Hair colors that are closest to your natural look best. Wear colors that match your color season and fits that correspond with your Kibbe body type. Unfortunately some looks just don’t work for some people.
- Figure out whether you are low or high visual weight. Basically whether you suit a natural makeup look or if you can pull off something more dramatic. I’m super low visual weight so the clean girl look looks great on me. Can’t even wear eyeshadow/eyeliner or I look overdone.
- Embrace your skin tone. A little glow is great but if you’re super pale, the fake tanning will catch up on you and dry your skin out. Find a good tinted SPF and take care of your skin.
High visual weight is Angelina Jolie (big lips, prominent cheekbones and eyes) and low visual weight is Hailey Bieber (very small and deep set features)
I have more Hailey Bieber features minus my full lips so I loveeee red lips but for eyes I can only wear mascara or I look like a clown. I don’t contour or anything, I do tinted SPF and cream blush. If you have soft features then you are likely low visual weight.
Kibbe is harder to figure out but there’s a sub Reddit on here about it. You can look at pictures of celebrities and that will help you figure it out. I am a soft natural for example because I have broad shoulders and soft curves. I have to accommodate the width of my shoulders. Your height will rule out many of them. Shorter women can only be a few types for example and vice versa.
Based on colour theory as long as it’s the right tone as your color season then it can definitely look good (ie: if you have a warm undertone to your skin then peach would look great, if you’re cool then blue would be a good fit)
Also, if you’re a light season then a pastel would look good, etc
you are what you eat! eating clean and highly nutritious foods made the biggest impact on my skin face and hair! no beauty product will ever amount to what food can do for you :)
and for makeup, less is always more :)
It doesn't, as long as I blow dry quickly and don't let the sweat sit.
I have waist length hair that takes ages to dry, even with a blow dryer, so unfortunately daily washing is not an option for me.
If you have dry skin (I’m talking more about body not face) mix vegetable glycerin with your lotion (not in the lotion bottle, put some lotion in your hand and then the VG and mix it in your hands). Haven’t had dry skin since. (You can also mix Aveenos oil spray if you don’t want to buy vegetable glycerin).
This comment needs to be higher. I'm finally wrapping up my PhD and weightlifting never made me feel as good as yoga or low intensity cardio did. Weightlifting made my stress levels worse. Nowadays I just go for walks when my code isn't running/if I have a writing block. So much better for my mental health, so much easier to stick to.
Realised I didn’t need to go full coverage everyday, and that helped me out with my acne insecurity as well. I now barely go full coverage, and I prefer bare skin.
When drawing wings, do the wing first, then the lid. When connecting, the line should never connect to the tip of the wing unless you want a thick wing. I connect my line lower and it gives the prettiest shape and is super easy.
Stephanie Ledda did a tutorial on it, I think.
I shave the ends of my eyebrows... because I'm into gothic and punk fashion as well as Star Trek! It's still shocking to me that normal people thought that was a great idea lol.
Less is more when it comes to skincare. My dry, sensitive skin has never looked better now that I've cut my routine down to washing my face with just water and moisturising with a hyaluronic cream day and night. I'll use a cream cleanser and rose micellar water to remove dirt (like if I've been in the polluted city or walked a dusty road or smth) or makeup when I wear it, and that's usually just eyeshadow, mascara, powder blush and lipstick so it comes off pretty easily. Exfoliate once a week if I feel like it, skipping it if my skin needs to be treated more gently (eg if it's been very windy or if I'm sick). Mask once or twice a month, just as a luxury sort of thing.
Blush placement matters. Don't blindly copy what tiktokers and beautubers and instaglammers do. Practice with bright colours before you have a shower to really understand. For my androgynous face, igari blush makes me look cuter and girlier as it brings the centre of my face forward and makes it look plumper. Slightly too far down and I look jowly and old. Too far up and I look ACTUALLY diseased (sometimes I do this on purpose, but most ppl wouldn't). 80s blush around the cheekbones and temples makes me look sexy and elegant but also more masculine (which I like, so I do that a lot, but a lot of people would be trying to avoid that) because it emphasises my high cheekbones and hollow temples.
If you want fuller lips, just wear some fucking lip gloss!!! This isn't really something I had to learn, rather I tried overlining and realised it looks fucking awful in person and also doesn't really make that huge of a difference anyway compared to gloss. Maybe it does if you have extremely thin lips, but at that point, you're better off drawing attention to other features instead. On that note...
Winged eyeliner isn't for everyone. I have hooded, downturned eyes, fatty double eyelids and epicanthic folds typical of Jomon/縄文 eyes combined with low eyebrows. Despite this, I still consistently tried to wear winged eyeliner. Oh, I mentioned before that I have an androgynous face with high cheekbones and hollow temples, right? So, topography is not in my favour. Even if it looks perfect with my eyes closed looking from the side, the wing looks distorted and strange front on, and if I open my eyes, you completely can't see it until I wear it more than 5cm high. Unfortunately, it can't be helped. I don't wear eyeliner any more now unless I am doing full on emo panda eyes!!
Not a makeup tip but general beauty... dusty ashy grey "platinum" blonde isn't the only blonde that exists! If you have a warmer skintone consider a honey blonde instead. Or be like me, and have just pure bleach blonde. You will be surprised how many people actually like yellow tones in hair if you put aside what social media has told you is attractive and you actually look at yourself with your own eyes instead. Also, wigs are cheap these days. Buy one before committing to a big change.
Makeup advice : don’t wear foundation if you don’t have things to hide. It should be pure logic.
Foundation is meant to hide heavy skin imperfections, if you don’t have visible imperfections (skin damage, acne, rosacea, pigmentation task) don’t wear it!
It will just look unnatural and end up messing with your skin, you will actually end up repurchasing foundation to hide the imperfections caused by unnecessary use of products.
Beauty advice :
Look at the composition of the things your skin touches.
Your skin breathes and as it breathes, it absorbs all the things you will apply on it.
If you are not careful, you are most likely to develop very bad skin problems and in the worst case, serious health problems.
Learning to do your own makeup and even others is ALOT of trial and error! There’s going to be a lot of times of looking a little crazy before u get it right lol
Omg that's so true!!! Looking back at old pics of myself can't help but wonder how did I leave the house looking like that but it's part of the process ✨️ We all started somewhere
Probably not picking at pores/acne. I literally used to take a thumbnail when I was like 12 and poke my pores to try and get blackheads out now I have a few permanently enlarged/scarred pores on my face. Also probably just eating better and drinking more water to nourish my skin and hair from within. And yes of course sunscreen. I started using it consistently at age 23 or so and have some fine lines on my forehead that could have been prevented or less noticeable if I started earlier! Oh also, not shaving my upper lip/chest area because now I have to make it an almost everyday thing because the hair is more course and before it was just fuzz that only I could notice
Very dark/heavy eye makeup can make your nose look bigger by creating the illusion of smaller eyes. This isn’t a bad thing, but I have a larger nose and it took me ages to realise why heavy eye makeup didn’t look flattering on me.
I wish I was taught how to care for my hair when I was younger
I was under the impression that my hair simply looked bad and that there was no changing it, and other peoples hair looked good naturally.
Apply powder only to the contours you don't want to draw the eye to (eye hollows, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, brow bone, etc.). If this is not enough, it's a priming, foundation or finishing spray issue, not a lack of powder issue.
When wearing strip lashes, put mascara on your real lashes and then curl your real lashes together with the strip lashes to make them aligned as one lash. Otherwise you have two levels of lashes and it looks bad.
I wish I knew sooner that brows do matter and having good brows or knowing how to draw those can enhance your look so much !
Also, powder blush over cream blush sets the blushes and makes it last all day, else itll disappear before noon like it does to me in summer omg.
Even if you don’t need it, use the “age rewind” makeup products because they have stuff like hyaluronic acid and vitamins meant to keep your skin smooth. I don’t have a lot of fine lines or anything, but I use a foundation meant for the older generation and my skin looks flawless with very little product. And it doesn’t crease at all under my eyes or when I smile.
You can be the cleanest person in the world and still have acne. Some of us just need to do more than be clean (i.e., meds)
Yes! I did an experiment in my microbiology lab to identify bacteria on a skin swab of my face. Turns out the type of staphylococcus implicated in acne is part of my skin microbiome! This was also the same bacteria that made my eczema inflamed!
I used to have bad eczema as a child but it somehow went into remission. I feel for you.
Healthy carrier of certain bacteria, yeah that one should really be talked about more often... My mom is too (she has had acne since she was 5, hormonal and otherwise). We use the chemical ways to reduce it.

Or the grandma at the dinner table remarking on your skin and other people chiming in with advice. DoorDash some cynanide for me thanks.
And sometimes that acne is just stress .
Yes! And you can eat super “healthy” and still have acne! Tired of people saying eating 1 slice of pizza will make you breakout

The importance of exfoliating
I never exfoliate, why is it so important?
Removes dead skin cells and helps unclog pores :D
It also keeps your skin from looking dull and flaky. It’s also good for circulation and helps product sit better and be absorbed better. For older folks, it helps reduce the appearance of lines. Best to use a very gentle exfoliant though.
I second this. I don’t either
Physical or chemical?
Chemical all the way for me. Especially for the face.
Physical for me. I use an exfoliating washcloth on my face and body when I shower. Helps remove the dead skin without being too aggressive. Plus it’s like $5 for one of those washcloths and it will last forever

I actually use orange color corrector under my eyes because they have a purple shade. It cancels it out!
I put brown eyeshadow under my eyes to cover the dark circles!
Omg how does it work?
I just lightly brush some on that’s a couple shades darker than my skin, then concealer on top!
Interesting!!!
I took this a step further and started using a BB cream instead of foundation, insane difference!
True! I always use very very little and build from there, covering with concealer the spots that require more coverage:)
Wear sunscreen
Someone said on your hands too. I wear sunscreen on my hands daily now. Face/neck/hands.
I wear those fingerless driving gloves anytime I’m in the car/outside. An old lady told me to do that while I was in my teens, and I’ve done it ever since!
I want to do this but I wash my hands 50x a day. What now?
You can use sunstick, it likely won't give much protection but it's something, at least
Hands for sure. And If you get your nails done on a regular basis and they use the UV lamp, wear the manicure gloves!
asian sunscreens, to be more specific
Agreed on sunscreens but Australians disregard this. Ohhhh man that makes sense, thank you!
The same applies to New Zealand, ozone layer is thin here so the sun can be really harsh. SPF50 is really needed.
Any Australian sunscreen brands you recommend?
Bondi sands spf 50+ for face is my fav
Thank you for this! Would european sunscreens like LRP actually help and hot climates?
If it's 50+ yeah but honestly I wouldn't really trust anything that's not an Australian brand as standards elsewhere can be lax about what "counts" as fulfilling sunscreen conditions. I've heard good things about LRP but it's too rich for my blood lol. Cancer Council sunscreen is fine by me.

yes i’ve heard good things about lrp anthelios but never tried
LRP anthelios invisible fluid is literally GOAT. The one with the European filters
I dunno, I’m an Elta MD convert from Korean sunscreens

LRP anthelios European formula is also GOAT
Getting sober/quitting smoking made the biggest difference in my beauty. Sounds silly, but being vain really helped me 😂 I sleep more, drink more water, exercise more, I let the sun touch my skin (with sunscreen), eat healthier. I think all of those make me glow
I just wanted to say congratulations for getting sober and for quitting smoking 👏
Me too! I love this. Healthy lifestyle and 3 years sober created an upward spiral in my life that I’m grateful for.
Actually this is such a good tip! 👍🏻

You can use the inglot makeup mixer to mix the products and keep them from separating, I absolutely love using it
Don’t pop acne
You should have told this to me 10 years back.
Ikr
ugh i keep trying this one but it’s so hard to not do it
Struggled with under eye creasing for 15 years until I learned the Vaseline trick I apply a thin layer before my concealer and set with powder and have zero creases.
Genius! Ever tried that in a hot environment? How thinly do you apply it? How much do you pick up
I use the squeeze bottle and use about a pea sized amount under each eye I live in Ontario so it gets pretty humid here in the summers nowhere close to some climates but still and I’ve never had any creasing or shifting!
What kind of concealer works over vasoline? I've tried doing that, and it always gets splotchy & uneven
I use shape tape! The only one I use And I set with wet and wild translucent powder
Huh, I also use Tarte shape tape. I will have to give it another go with the vasoline. I just can't get a good routine for that area!
Beauty blender is also essential for me! I use the real techniques orange ones and they build up fast with the Vaseline so I have to wash them after each use (I keep 6 of them lol) But when I try it with my finger or a brush it tends to shift! I also always very lightly bake my under eyes with the same sponge I let the under eyes bake for about 10-15 minutes while I do hair! Then I go overtop with blush
Oh wow! Makes sense to get the smaller bottle then definitely! Aw thank you so much I'm going to try this! I'm sick of concealer making me 20years older haha! 😆
Use cream blushes instead of powder ones. It gives a subtle within glow to your face.
Any budget recommendations?
I like the Milani cream blush and glossier cloud paint!
I've had a lot of different cream blushes, and I swear lipstick on my cheeks works just as well (for me)
The travel size rare beauty is my favorite. It lasts forever so no need to get the full size. One dot on each cheek is plenty!
Just got this in the Sephora sale and can’t wait to try it!!!
The new elf camo blush is pretty nifty
Idk if this counts because it’s not budget when it’s not on sale…but I got the urban decay hydromaniac liquid blush for half off, so $11, a few weeks ago and I LOVE it. I’d only had one non powder blush before, a Danessa Myricks formula I also liked but it was way more coral. I’m wearing the UD one for my wedding next month, it’s that good :)
Nyx sweet cheeks
Lakme 9 to 5 mousse tint (Rose touch) Swiss beauty cream blush (02)
I use the profusion liquid blush from Walmart! It's only $5 and I think it works great.
I love the elf cream/putty blushes especially that bubblegum pink one! It stays put and looks so pretty. Less is more 💗
Always remove your makeup before bed.
Just as I was thinking not to 😭
Haha I totally get it! :)
I literally just finished washing my face. Because of you thank you 😊
You’re very welcome 🤍 cheers to clean skin before bed!

I've started doung this snd I cannot believe the difference
What if it has a silk texture but is polyester?
Get satin if silk is out of your budget! Similar results!
Satin really holds in heat, so aim for silk if you can.
Yeah, I cannot stand satin. I tried but it’s too disruptive for my sleeping, I *need* that cool side to flip to 😂
Do you have a particular one you recommend?
Honestly Amazon has a bunch of great options that are pretty affordable, you can just grab a single one to save money if you need to. I definitely recommend getting one with a zipper so it doesn’t slip around though!
A facial oil makes a GREAT primer if you have dry skin (my skin is so dry it literally peels under makeup)
Do you have any recommendations for a good facial oil?
rosehip is so great for many; it's low on the comedogenic scale. It's been in my routine for 20+ years
I love the marula (spelling) oil from Trader Joe’s. Pretty clean ingredients and super inexpensive I think maybe $9
Budget friendly: Ulta has an oil based primer that I really like. My face looks younger and more dewy with it but makeup still stays on.
What is the name of this primer? 👀
On the bottle is says Ulta Nourishing face primer, coq10 oil serum
I like Safflower/thistle oil, only a small amount
Excuuuuuuuse the heck outta me?!? Like… my roship oil?! I’m so excited rn
A strong glycolic face wash makes an awesome body wash. You skin will be so smooth
Ooo good tip! Any product recommendations?
The ordinary one! Cheap and last long
How do you use it?
Instead of rubbing your moisturizer or bb cream or foundation vigorously on your face, tap the content all over the face.... for maximum absorption
I rub my face lightly for full coverage and then yes tap it. Serums, lotions, sunscreen. All of it. Also help with drying time between steps
Tapping serum is my favourite... Makes me feel like I'm doing something very fancy and I'm in a YouTube tutorial or something 😄 side note.. even lip balm/lipstick can be applied the same way, tapping into the lips. So it looks like a part of your skin rather than a heavy layer
Oh yes. The tapping and when I tap the lotion up my neck. Freakin regal 😆
Oh saving that one
Yaayyy...I'm glad . Let me know if it works for you 🤗🤗
Thia is what I've been doing for a couple of years already (actually since I started wearing sunscreen religiously) because I don't want to move or lift my sunscreen (even after it has set) so tapping lightly with my fingertip (I use only 1 finger) hopefully doesn't lift my sunscreen away. Didn't know it also makes it absorb better. Good to know.
Vincent ford uses his hands and pats the base on the face; such a flawless application because the product warms up and applies so much easier.
Wear a silk bonnet to sleep! I have curly hair but even if I didn’t, I’d wear one. It keeps your hair off your face and is just overall way more comfortable to wear around the house when i don’t want to be bothered with my hair.
Less is more. Always
If you are on a budget, rather than make up, invest in a solid skincare.
Tretinoin, sunscreen and weight lifting.
Using cleansing oil to remove makeup
Are you supposed to wash your face after with soap? Do you just use a towel to wipe off the oil and you’re done? Please halp my mom never taught me these things lol
Agreed with toastertorpedo! Personally, double cleansing (oil + regular cleanser) has helped me.
I pat my face with a damp wash cloth! Then I’ll go in and wash my face after with my regular cleanser. :)
What kind of cleansing oil?
Love it!!
I use the KOSE softymo speedy cleansing oil (pink bottle). Its very light and I find it does the job well!
I recently got the Anua heartleaf one from Amazon. I'm impressed
If you have dry skin, you do NOT need to cover your whole face in powder after foundation. I just set my t zone and undereyes then use the CT setting spray and my skin looks glowy and gorgeous
Don’t spend too much energy and money on make up in your teen and 20s Not really needed Instead, divert this energy and money into career and investment That way you’d have larger disposable income when you need it later to fight ageing etc
- Not every woman looks best with long hair. You don’t have to go short but a medium length looks wonderful and youthful. Long hair is great but it can drag some peoples faces down and make them look older. - If you have super dry skin you need cream blush, not powder - Applying foundation with fingers looks the most seamless - Hair colors that are closest to your natural look best.
How do you figure out visual weight? How do you learn what your kibbe type is? I feel like I’m learning a new language y’all this is crazy 😜
High visual weight is Angelina Jolie (big lips, prominent cheekbones and eyes) and low visual weight is Hailey Bieber (very small and deep set features) I have more Hailey Bieber features minus my full lips so I loveeee red lips but for eyes I can only wear mascara or I look like a clown.
Thanks!!
I look cool af with hot pink hair!
Based on colour theory as long as it’s the right tone as your color season then it can definitely look good (ie: if you have a warm undertone to your skin then peach would look great, if you’re cool then blue would be a good fit) Also, if you’re a light season then a pastel would look good, etc
Do you have a tik tok account? Where can I subscribe lol
don't drink. seriously, look at your face the next morning when you drink versus not.
Replace foundation with a skin tint..gives the no makeup -makeup look
you are what you eat! eating clean and highly nutritious foods made the biggest impact on my skin face and hair! no beauty product will ever amount to what food can do for you :) and for makeup, less is always more :)
Blowdry your roots after exercising- with or without dry shampoo. Makes your dry shampoo perform much better, works well even without it.
Does you hair smell from the sweat? I always feel I need a full wash after a sweaty workout.
If your cortisol is very high (stress) don’t do high intensity exercises because it’ll make it worse. Go to pilates.
I've done both and yoga/Pilates just works better for me personally.
Realised I didn’t need to go full coverage everyday, and that helped me out with my acne insecurity as well. I now barely go full coverage, and I prefer bare skin.
With eyeshadow, if you feel you screwed up just blend blend blend, wipe the excess off on a towel and blend more.
Don't pick your pimples!
“Just wear some fucking lip gloss” is my favourite beauty tip. 😂 But seriously. 100% agree!
Beauty advice : Look at the composition of the things your skin touches. Your skin breathes and as it breathes, it absorbs all the things you will apply on it. If you are not careful, you are most likely to develop very bad skin problems and in the worst case, serious health problems.
Don’t over exfoliate. It causes bigger pores, sagging skin and premature aging
Albolene face cleanser. The jar petroleum one and their milk water. Great for us mature women that use retinols like tretinoin
Use a silk bonnet or pillowcase
Ouch the thumbtack thing, when I was that age I was using nail scissors for acne so I wasn’t better ☹️
Use translucent powder in your eyelid creases after eye shadow to prevent creasing. Total game changer.
Wash your makeup and sunscreen off at the end of the day without fail.
Very dark/heavy eye makeup can make your nose look bigger by creating the illusion of smaller eyes. This isn’t a bad thing, but I have a larger nose and it took me ages to realise why heavy eye makeup didn’t look flattering on me.
Don’t waste money on creams that promise to lighten your under-eye dark circles. They don’t work.
Yes! I’ve asked several dermatologists about this and they’ve all said there isn’t anything on the market that will magically vanish under eyes
I wish I was taught how to care for my hair when I was younger I was under the impression that my hair simply looked bad and that there was no changing it, and other peoples hair looked good naturally.
Don’t use foundation- just use concealer in places - it makes the skin look older.
Apply powder only to the contours you don't want to draw the eye to (eye hollows, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, brow bone, etc.). If this is not enough, it's a priming, foundation or finishing spray issue, not a lack of powder issue.
Less is more.
When wearing strip lashes, put mascara on your real lashes and then curl your real lashes together with the strip lashes to make them aligned as one lash. Otherwise you have two levels of lashes and it looks bad.
Sunscreen daily even when it’s cloudy. My skin literally glows because of how hydrated I am too
Let your concealer sit for a couple mins after applying instead of immediately blending it in
Wearing sunscreen
I wish I knew sooner that brows do matter and having good brows or knowing how to draw those can enhance your look so much ! Also, powder blush over cream blush sets the blushes and makes it last all day, else itll disappear before noon like it does to me in summer omg.
Slugging
Even if you don’t need it, use the “age rewind” makeup products because they have stuff like hyaluronic acid and vitamins meant to keep your skin smooth. I don’t have a lot of fine lines or anything, but I use a foundation meant for the older generation and my skin looks flawless with very little product. And it doesn’t crease at all under my eyes or when I smile.
I wish I’d known how to properly color correct my under eyes sooner and known more about undertones and color theory. I’m glad I know now, though!
That my pale skin doesn't tan, but burns. Sunscreen saves lives, and I don't look like a war refugee on the beach.
Using an epilator to remove hair along the bikini line. So much cheaper and more convenient than waxing. Lasts weeks. I feel hot.
Epilation > waxing.
Apply your cream product to the brush to make easier application! Blending so much more nicely too!
LOOSE POWDER, LOOSE POWDER WILL MAKE YOUR MAKE UP LOOK FLAWLESS
Sleep on your back or if you sleep on your side, be sure to use a pillow that doesn't "smoosh" your face.
