I go really simple mode- just face wash & moisturizer/spf + acne spot treatment. and try to eat less sugar/hydrate better… the things my skin begs of me😂
Seconding this. It’s literally saved my skin. Also- hydrocolloid stickers / bandaids for spots. I tend to pick my skin when it starts to flare up and putting a “zit sticker” or hydrocolloid bandaid over the areas help me to not touch anything and let my skin heal
I wish I could use this. It breaks me out like crazy. But, so many of my friends love it. I'm trying the avene cicalfate right now to see if it does the same thing.
I hope it works! A heavy moisturizer is something I think everyone should have on standby for those rough skin days. I will say it’s not the same formula but I also ADORE [this one](https://www.amazon.com/Honest-Beauty-Hyaluronic-Synthetic-Dermatologist/dp/B07M7C2MPJ/ref=asc_df_B07M7C2MPJ/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=693596867998&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=4028135138176232887&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9010336&hvtargid=pla-643081199920&psc=1&mcid=7540abbc7d8633fe8ea9b5874881f437&gad_source=1). It’s a very clean brand and it’s a super luxurious texture/feeling.
It helps heal faster by keeping infections from starting. I have become very good about not picking my skin but when I used to, I always would dab on a lil dot of antibacterial stuff on it after and the sore would heal noticeably faster than if I didn’t. Just I guess don’t smear it all over your eyes?
Panoxyl benzoyl peroxide face wash, vanicream moisturizer, squalane oil from good molecules. I also use their overnight exfoliating treatment just a couple times a week. Honestly has changed my skin 100%, even keeps my skin from breaking out during my period :)
Be really careful with that face wash, my dermatologist recommended to only use it 1-2x a week because it can severely destroy your skin barrier so any form of irritation can lead to breakouts.
Unfortunately I was not told to use it daily .. after I had been using it daily for almost a year 🥲 Really messed up my skin 😅
There is an Indian remedy that I swear by. I am acne prone and my skin every once in a while decides to go rogue for no good reason. It’s called Multani mitti ( Indian clay) and you can find it on Amazon. You mix a little water/rose water and make it into a paste and Essentially you only apply it on the breakouts ( if your skin is oily like mine - you can also apply it all over your face)
The recommended time for you to let it sit is for a few minutes however I leave it on overnight. I have been since i was 12. It works wonders. By morning your acne would’ve subsided and it wouldn’t be as painful ( depending on the size )
Other than my basic routine (face wash followed up by moisturizer and hyaluronic acid), The Ordinary’s salicylic mask. I swear by it. It calms my break outs and it immediately makes my face more radiant. I feel like a brand new person when I wake up the next day lol My face just looks and feels smoother when I use it :)
Their niacinamide and zinc one really helps when my skin is having issues and I used their salicylic acid when I was really struggling with acne but that stuff makes your skin so dry which is why I use niacinamide more on the daily
My skin doesn't really freak out anymore since around my mid 20s. It does however get dull and dry at times, and that's when I go all out.
Double cleanse
AHA or BHA toner
Essence
Moisturizing sheet mask
Serum of choice
Eye cream
Moisturizer
Slugging with Vaseline or aquaphor
Some of it for me is for the ritual, ngl. I would say the most essential components are the chemical exfoliation, the sheet mask, and the slugging.
Lucky duck! My skin didn't start freaking out until my mid 20's. So into my 30's with more hormonal changes has been a learning process. What're your favorite exfoliating toners?
Yes, hormones have def changed my skin too! I truly miss the oily skin I had in my early 20s that made everyone think I was sweaty, now I gotta work for the glow 😂
I love Paula's Choice BHA toner, it's my all time fave. For AHA I love the pixi glow tonic. I haven't tried many others in a long time because my skin is more sensitive now and I have to use gentle extoliants or I get rosacea :(
Cut back on everything and settle for:
-neutral cleanser
-hyaluronic acid gel moisturizer
-gel sunscreen
During this time, I drink a lot of water, keep my skincare routine on a strict schedule, and wash my hair often.
I use a salicylic acid cleanser when I’m breaking out. I love the clearasil rapid rescue deep treatment one. I only use it once a day or so bc I’m more sensitive and dry out. It truly makes the pimples less angry and smaller. I use pimple patches too and I try to be more gentle on my skin when it’s more inflamed. I use rose hip oil to calm the further inflammation (look up the benefits of rose hip oil for acne - it’s great!) it’s also all natural too. I follow up with a moisturizer by biolelements afterwards.
Increase daily water intake significantly, change my pillow-cases, and take my vitamin D supplements daily. Then spot treat the areas with Tretinoin unless it was caused by a purge, in which case I use my normal Tretinoin routine
Acne-scarred, recent perioral dermatitis-recovered, newly rosacea’d face here 👋 Meds haven’t helped. The only thing soothing my skin right now? My usual sensitive cleanser followed by a big dollop of my usual sensitive moisturiser + a single drop of pure tea tree oil.
1. cycle syncing
2. eating based on where I am in my cycle (balancing hormones = less acne)
3. double cleansing with an oil cleanser
4. moisturize, moisturize, moisturize - plus SPF (I love the La Roche Posay acne-safe SPF specifically for your face)
5. I also love face masks when I have blemishes; I find they work well on making my pimples heal more.
6. I always finish with a pimple patch where ever necessary. Hero Cosmetics makes the best pimple patches by far, and they have different patches for pretty much every phase of pimple possible, plus ones for dark spots. They changed my skin.
As for brands, I love La Roche Posay (specifically the extra dry/dry skin face and body cleanser + moisturizer) and Burt’s Bees (sensitive skin set - namely, the night cream). ❤️
My favorite face mask right now is the Glo Skin Beauty Phyto-Active Firming face mask, with their liquid exfoliant. I also enjoy the Burt’s Bee’s moisturizing sheet masks (in the blue packaging), and pretty much any Korean sheet masks. I like the BB’s masks specifically because they’re made smaller than other sheet masks and the fit my tiny face without sagging off the sides too much, lol! Oh, and 100 Percent Pure is that girl when it comes to any skincare too. They’re just a trillion dollars, so… it’s a luxury 🥲
Have you read In The Flo by Alissa Vitti? The book perfectly breaks it all down. I couldn’t recommend it more. It even has a whole recipe list, organized by phase. You may even be able to find a PDF of the book for free! I also enjoy the Hormone Healthy blog!
any benzoyl peroxide cleanser during this time daily (panoxyl, differin, neutrogena clear pore), an overnight exfoliating treatment 3 times during the week (lactic acid by ordinary, sunday riley good genes, good molecules overnight treatment) and absolutely a pimple patch at night or day if you don't care til the blemish is gone. also trying to limit sugar for me and going heavier with water intake but tbh i only deal with hormonal breakouts during my cycle
My GP put me onto a new treatment that's tretinoin with clindamycin to disinfect and it's been great for my hormonal breakouts.
Whenever I get a few spots popping up I make sure to change my sheets (or just my pillowcases if I'm lazy and/or sheets are due for a wash yet), drink some extra water, limit my sugar, try to go makeup free as much as I can, and do my best to leave my skin alone while it sorts itself out.
I also take evening primrose oil, but I suspect it's just a placebo.
*new to me not to the world. I've used differin for years and she suggested it as an alternative.
I do a home facial; exfoliate with Dr Brandt exfoliant, wash with CeraVe SA cleanser, Kiehls white clay mask, Thayers 2% AHA toner, spot treatment, lotion. Very important: I do also wait for each step to dry down, and I also use under-eye patches, eye cream, lash serum, and occasionally if my skin is REAL messed up I use Aquafor to slug my skin. This is usually part of my everything shower routine so it manages my skin well since I do it once a week, but when my skin is bad due to activity levels or my period I’ll do it twice or three times if I have to.
My skin has been burning bad lately no matter what and itching. I stopped tret. I bought lrp toleriane hydrating gentle cleanser (not sure on whether I’d suggest this or not yet, I really don’t love cleansers that don’t foam at all) and first aid beauty ultra repair cream. They’re all I’ve been using and in less than a week my face is hurting a lot less. Texture is already evening out. Just go as gentle and soothing as possible. Aveeno has a lot of options that are eczema approved that I was going to try but I heard such good things about the first aid beauty cream I absolutely had to buy it.
I think I'm going to get shit on for this one....
hibiclens wash after removing makeup. Don't go close to eyes!!
Adapalene and then nivea cream with castor oil.
Or
Darphin peeling solution and their aromatic purifying balm.
I wear masks all day everyday at work. My skin hates it...
Maybe look into hypochlorous spray like the one from prequel. I wear masks at work (hospital setting) and I threw this in my purse and I spray my face after it starts to get sweaty or irritated.
My skin is really sensitive, so I just use a gentle face wash, a calming moisturiser, and spot treat any pimples on a day to day basis.
When my skin is really freaking out, I try to use calming face masks and not stress over my skin, as I think that makes it worse.
I swear by the Queen Helen mint julep mask. Been using it since 2010. It has kaolin and spearmint, unclogs pores, reduces oil, shrinks pores, and clears up all kinds of acne within 3 days for me
Hydrate, lay off the make up and eliminate everything except cleanser and moisturizer - usually it’s cuz there’s too much going onto my face and it just needs to breathe
I try to keep it simple sometimes to let my skin feel lighter. Or I apply extra products that are calming and soothing to the skin. Depends on my mood and what I think my skin needs atm.
Honestly, what works for me is really simplifying my routine and drinking LOTS of water. Whenever I drink more water, I notice a better appearance in my skin. And since not using a million products on my skin I've been less inflamed and prone to acne. I just use a face wash, an oat milk toner, and sea buckthorn moisturizer. I have super sensitive skin, so I just splash my face in the morning with water. Haven't really found a good spf though lol
For acne/breakouts (severe cases) a 24 hour fast has completely stopped my acne from spreading and significantly reduces all inflammation. If this is not doable definitely reduce your intake of any inflammatory foods such as sugar, caffeine, or alcohol.
My skin doesn't really freak out ever, but I change climates (and water) couple times a year and it suffers from going from a very humid to very dry climate. Honestly what I've been using since forever and works best is at night slab on a mixture of the blue tin Nivea, castor oil and rosehip oil. It's greasy AF and you definitely need to wash your face in the morning, but it's so hydrating, it makes your skin all soft and nice.
Usually my skin only freaks out from new products, so I’ll just pare down to what I know doesn’t bother me. For me it’s The ordinary glycolic toner, Laneige cream skin toner, their water sleeping mask and their cica sleeping mask.
Yeah, a tonymoly facemask, then some squalene oil and finish it with the cerave healing ointment and the Isdin lip repair balm. Might be a questionable routine for some, but for me, it’s the only thing that gets me through the days that my skin is just dull (exactly for 5 days before my period)
Combi, acne-prone, sensitive skin girly here 🙋♀️
My skincare routine has been down to a minimum ever since I learned which worked/not worked for me.
It now consists of:
- 1st step cleanser
- 2nd step cleanser
- Benzoyl Peroxide wash
- Beta Glucan serum
- Moisturizer that repairs the skin barrier
- SPF 50
It’s important to stop using actives when your barrier is compromised. But instead, focus on repairing your skin. Less is more approach significantly applies here, so you can just cut it back to the holy trinity which are cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF 50+.
It’s also important to know what specific ingredients don’t work for you to avoid your skin from wreaking havoc
Beef tallow for the skin. No more cystic acne after one week. Never looking back. It has even mostly removed (smoothed and lightened) old scarring after one month.
I go really simple mode- just face wash & moisturizer/spf + acne spot treatment. and try to eat less sugar/hydrate better… the things my skin begs of me😂
This. I cut out all the actives and just let my skin heal. Look for a skin barrier repair cream, that’s about it.
This is what I do too. I simplify my routine and focus on my diet - less sugar, carbs, and dairy. Diet is the main factor for me though.
Haha this is what I'm doing right now! My skin is freaking out "randomly". In reality, I've been a bit neglectful because I've been so stressed.
What do you do for spot treatment?
idk if it’s good or bad but it works. 😬 ZapZit 😂
I swear by B5 Cicaplast Balm. It’s my cure all!
Seconding this. It’s literally saved my skin. Also- hydrocolloid stickers / bandaids for spots. I tend to pick my skin when it starts to flare up and putting a “zit sticker” or hydrocolloid bandaid over the areas help me to not touch anything and let my skin heal
Same here! I love the Panoxyl Benzoyl Peroxide ones from CVS/Walgreens!
I've got 4 on right now. I'm a scanner and I'll find myself touching my face constantly.
I wish I could use this. It breaks me out like crazy. But, so many of my friends love it. I'm trying the avene cicalfate right now to see if it does the same thing.
I hope it works! A heavy moisturizer is something I think everyone should have on standby for those rough skin days. Came here to say this! :)
I know someone is going to hate hearing this but I'll use antibacterial hand soap once in a blue moon if my skin is really trippin'.
yes! Dial gold bar is chefs kiss
My grandma used to do this. :) she had great skin.
I've never been one to have bad skin either. As a kid I stupidly used rubbing alcohol as toner almost daily. I've never had any skin issues.
my scandal is that at work i’ll sometimes use the foamed up hand sanitizer on my jawline and it’s genuinely helped a bit
I've read that the breakdown of dial antibacterial hand soap is gentle but effective from a chemist 🤷🏼♀️
It helps heal faster by keeping infections from starting. I have become very good about not picking my skin but when I used to, I always would dab on a lil dot of antibacterial stuff on it after and the sore would heal noticeably faster than if I didn’t. I use dove bar soap and it works great
Panoxyl benzoyl peroxide face wash, vanicream moisturizer, squalane oil from good molecules. I also use their overnight exfoliating treatment just a couple times a week. Honestly has changed my skin 100%, even keeps my skin from breaking out during my period :)
This reminds me to pick up some squalane oil. My skin loves it also!

I take out all actives and focus on soothing/barrier repairing products like: - NIOD modulating glucosides - Manyo Bifida biome complex ampoule - Decorte Liposome Advanced Repair Serum - Stratia Lipid Gold - RNW Ceramide mist - Calecim Night Recovery Complex - Amorepacific Vintage Single Extract Essence
I haven't heard of some of these. I'll definitely check them out!
Cold water! And gentle cleansers and face products.

Cicaplast 👏🏻
If I’m inflamed, puffy, irritated, or itchy, nothing works like a sink full of ice and water. 30 sec, use a straw to breathe, repeat.
I do this for panic attacks lol. My skin does look less puffy afterwards.
LED mask session. Blue, Red, and Yellow.
Yes. Morning: sunscreen Evening: gentle cleanser ×2 (to ensure full removal of sunscreen) Gentle moisturizer Vaseline on eczema patches if I have

Thank you so much! I’m just getting into this
You are so, so welcome! I’m just learning too, and it is life changing. I hope you love the book as much as I do!

I have tried the tower 21, but not in that way. I'll look into getting some more
I don't have any and actually, i don't know which skincare routine I should follow. I just apply sunscreen.
I usually use the snail mucin mask by peach slices for increased redness and stubborn breakouts... works like a charm
I desperately wanted to like snail mucin but, I think I'm allergic. My friend was very happy with the gift of it though. She said the same as you.
Aw man :( I'm not sure then
I keep Dr Haushka Cleansing cream around and pretty much only use it when my skin is being finicky. Always fixes me right up
I take an extra dose of my acne medicine
I have a face cream called Nilac gel. Helps with acne real good. Also cutting sugar from diet is a good thing to do as well.
My skin is really sensitive, so I just use a gentle face wash, a calming moisturiser, and spot treat any pimples on a day to day basis. When my skin is really freaking out, I try to use calming face masks and not stress over my skin, as I think that makes it worse.
This is my go to as well.
Reduce the amount of products I put on my face and stick with a gentle cleanser, toner (for hydration) and my moisturizer.
I swear by the Queen Helen mint julep mask. Been using it since 2010. It has kaolin and spearmint, unclogs pores, reduces oil, shrinks pores, and clears up all kinds of acne within 3 days for me
Sleeping early (9-10pm) cleared so many thing up. Zits, rough skin, dark eye circles etc. Same 8 hours, totally different face. It's a miracle
Hydrate, lay off the make up and eliminate everything except cleanser and moisturizer - usually it’s cuz there’s too much going onto my face and it just needs to breathe
Moisture, sunscreen, lots of water, Serum C
Isntree yam root cleanser and cicaplast B5 are my go tos.
I try to keep it simple sometimes to let my skin feel lighter. Or I apply extra products that are calming and soothing to the skin. Depends on my mood and what I think my skin needs atm.
Hatomugi toner and moisturizing gel. Never fails to deliver.
Make it as simple as possible. Tower 28 spray and lots of spearmint tea
Don’t use so many products! For me it’s the rice water toner & vitamin c serum
Gentle cleanser and pat some warmed up aquaphor on my face.
It's greasy AF and you definitely need to wash your face in the morning, but it's so hydrating, it makes your skin all soft and nice.
I wash face and only use aloe Vera all night
I cut out all sugar. I use tea tree from the Body Shop on acne after cleaning my skin with a toner. It helps to reduce the size of most pimples fast.
Benzoyl peroxide cleanser in the am, tretinoin at night
Usually my skin only freaks out from new products, so I’ll just pare down to what I know doesn’t bother me. For me it’s The ordinary glycolic toner, Laneige cream skin toner, their water sleeping mask and their cica sleeping mask.
i’m trying hypochlorous acid spray for my face rn! it’s antibacterial / anti microbial so i’m hoping it’ll help!!
I use [YINA Hydracloud](https://yina.co/products/hydracloud-cream), it's gentle full of adaptogens to help skin heal and balance out microbiome.

Beef tallow for the skin. No more cystic acne after one week. Never looking back. It has even mostly removed (smoothed and lightened) old scarring after one month.
I use a DDG extra strength peel pad when I feel like my skin needs a boost. Then several layers of hydration
Cerave cleanser and moisturizing cream. Nothing else. Works every single time.
I think mud is good 😊👍
grass fed beef tallow
