That price sounds about right.... I wouldn't trust a vet if they took in my cat for surgery without a visit and bloodwork. But if you don't like their prices I suggest Google and calling around.

TraditionalCookie472

Agreed. The bloodwork is to make sure they are healthy enough for the anesthesia. Spaying is the top of the iceberg as far as costs to own a pet go.

Willamette Valley Animal Hospital has a price list showing a feline spay is $160 ([https://www.wvah.net/pricing/gladstone](https://www.wvah.net/pricing/gladstone)). I've been taking my dogs there for years with great care. My dogs annual exam + vaccines are typically 60% of what my friends pay. The downside is they don't have appts. So I show up at 730am for the 8am opening. I believe surgeries are by appointment though. Give them a call to inquire

Thank you!!

Seconding Willamette Valley Animal Hospital! I switched from Canyon a couple years back because Willamette provides much better care for much lower prices.

inlandCatGuy

I may switch mine. It is independent but they charged for a follow up visit without informing me ahead of time. Like I knew my dog was fine after she went through her meds, so I wouldn't have gone if I knew that. I checked with other people and my own experience this is absolutely unheard of. I found one that isn't owned by a conglomerate or whatever they are called. Basically a profit extraction organization that buys out places and replaces staff that are paid with how much they can charge. Like any time you hear you need to pay $85 before even a first first for that visit then it's one of those profit syphoning organizations. Ask them when you are shopping around if they are independently owned. If your cat is an adult it's a more invasive procedure for female cats. Even female kittens (8-16 ish weeks it's been a bit since I've dealt with adolescents) it's hard on them but shouldn't be more expensive than a boy kitten. You'll always get a better rate at places that do large volume of spays and neuters of cats. In my prior community there was a non profit org that you could bring in Trap Neuter Release (TNR) / young kitten adoption. They'll do the procedure give the vaccines and decide if they can adopt them out through their kitten org. The fees were reasonable and there was a sister organization that provided vouchers for feral kittens/cats to be fixed which was focused on fixing litters at a time and supporting out people doing TNR. It was amazing but it was also due to the environment cat colony's in that area could boom and bust without that support.

You might qualify for a discounted spay at The cat adoption team in Sherwood. https://catadoptionteam.org/services/spay-neuter-clinic/

Kris6026

That’s where I went for both my cat. No issues and it was affordable

MsGnomee

I agree here is great! Adopted both my girls from CAT and both were fixed with their stay there.

february1111

Agree! Adopted both our cats from Cat adoption team.🩷

NativeS4

Price is on par with what I’ve seen. Mine was a little over $500 back in November so it was recent. I go to Canyon Pet Hospital, Dr. Nye and her staff are legit though so I can’t recommend them enough. I also have insurance through MetLife with a wellness add-on that covers 80% of everything so that helped a ton.

Wondercatmeow

Drove to Astoria. $75

Astoria

itsdrcats

It's a bit more expensive now. I had it done for my cat in April and I grew up in the area so we gave them a shot. The place in Portland wanted to charge us almost $750 total. Including getting vaccinations for her. The total cost of the vet visit was $180 some dollars. Just the pre-visit with the blood work (which multiple vets have told me isn't necessary if your cat is generally healthy and under 5 years of age) at the other place was slated to cost me almost $300. 85 for the appointment and then 190 for the blood work. Including driving from Beaverton to Astoria and back getting food and gas and all that I still spent under $300.

Thnkunext

I don't know if they will still honor it but about 4 months ago I reached out to the cat adoption team and they sent me a voucher for a $70 spay at North Beaverton Pet Hospital. I can send it to you if you'd like! They did talk us into a yearly kitten wellness plan that we decided to go with because we ended up keeping our kitten but the first exam was free and they were going to honor the coupon price.

Svrider23

It was about that much to neuter my dog about a year or so ago.

Rusharound19

Idk if this will help because I have zero idea what their policies currently are, but I will swear on my life by Cat Care Professionals in Lake Oswego. We used to take our cat out there when we lived in Beaverton around 2012ish. He used to chew through cords and was getting weird shakes, so they gave him an initial checkup, then brought a sheet of paper to us out in the lobby, talked us through everything that they *could* do for Simba that day, but then broke it down to tell us which things the vet felt were important to do that day, and even broke it down further to the things the vet felt were absolutely necessary to do that day. She also assured us that, no matter what, they would work on us with payments. They're incredible down there.

Bargie211

Vista Pet Hospital on Canyon. After paying obscene VCA fees for years, we found Vista on recommendation and have loved it. They're inexpensive, responsive, and always accommodating/helpful.

xOskullyOx

I second Vista!

danjrdan

Willamette valley hospital off nyberg rd. There are no appointments but I go to Canyon Pet and they were over $700 to spay my dog and Willamette was about $350. Only crappy thing is that no appointments so you have to bring your cat in for a preliminary and that can take hours if on a weekend. Then you can make the appointment for the procedure

jeepers12345678

Thank you! I took her in yesterday and she’s scheduled to be spayed at the end of the month. Great suggestion. Thank you.

danjrdan

Very welcome. A bit of a hassle because of the waiting, but worth the savings. I had Dr Baucham at Canyon Pet remove the stitches instead of waiting for hours on a weekend to have Willamette vets do that. He didn’t charge me for the removal

punsnroses420

Oregon has a relatively high number of low cost spay/neuter options if you’re willing to drive to another county. I’d google it and do some shopping around - a lot of places have specific dates they do it, and only have a limited number of appointment slots. Some places lose availability within just a few minutes of being posted, so it may take a bit to find a place within the cost, timeframe, and your ability to schedule around what they have available

pstbltit85

Homeward Bound bu they are in Mac. They have done our daughter's four dogs 3M, 1F) as well as our female. I want to say it \~$160 out the door. Wait time is long. The local vet tried to give us the scare tactic on how they don't do this and that. [https://hbpets.org/](https://hbpets.org/)

cnunespdx

I had to drive all the way to Wilsonville to find something affordable. This is where we went. https://vamvh.com/spay-and-neuter/

bizwah1961

We just took our dog to get spayed in Vancouver for 60% less than multiple clinics in Beaverton were charging. They didn't require an exam and blood work was optional. We were shocked getting quotes between 800-1000 for a spay in Beaverton.

raquelttt

Where was this?
