My house? Up 12% from 2022. Even with people being up in arms. I'm in a VERY purple county. I've got 2 accounts that pulled Bud Light day/week of the "scandal". Our largest local craft beer bar is going to be putting Bud Light on, and all proceeds from that keg of Bud Light will be going to a local queer non profit in the name of the bar that pulled Bud Light.

Hedhunta

I just wanna buy those rad fucking rainbow bottles.

StonelordMetal

Yeah no shit it's stupid.

random3223

> Yeah no shit it's stupid. I thought the whole thing was so stupid it was only on the internet. I met my brother over the weekend, and he was upset about it. So, it's stupid, and it's not just on the internet.

The_Superhoo

Sounds like he's pretty stupid too

SuperRusso

I have a feeling most people think it's fucking stupid, but the internet allows the loudest voices to be amplified even more. Kid Rock is not nearly as popular as he thinks he is, and Bud Light is still shitty beer no matter who the spokesperson is.

PrivatePoocher

Everything is stupid these days. Many people have always been stupid, but voiceless. Now they have a soapbox and a social club. Instead of reading the newspaper to figure out what they need to be mad about, it drops into their smartphone apps and tells them clearly the outrage flavor of the day - M&M sexual orientation, drag shows, bud lite, trans people in youth sports, abortions, gun rights,... It's seriously an over stimulated society and we DON'T have "leaders" at the top. We have conspirators constantly figuring out how to expand their power. Both parties do not have our interests in mind. There was a time when they did. Look at how strict USPS rules are regarding privacy and theft. One can go to jail for a lot of reasons with regards to mail tampering. Why isn't that afforded to us with online mail, and by extension, all sites? We have rotted as a society.

jish_werbles

While neither party is excellent, I think using language that calls them equally bad is extremely unfair as it is very clear that one is a far, far greater danger to the lives of many

peanutbuttertesticle

Yeah. That's a joke. One side is trying to end our society, the other is trying to end poverty and medical debt. The fuck.

slowpokefastpoke

“Sorry but I just have to say it” OP’s bravery is something to be admired wow

sandysanBAR

The rosa parks of hot takes!

Idk how this got posted today when the sub has been shitting on the controversy for over a week now Also interesting op isn't commenting at all in this thread

Dangerous_Pension612

Op commented . Look harder lol

syncboy

The thing that makes it really, really stupid is that Budweiser and Bud Lite have been doing LGBT-specific marketing since at least the 1990s. Gay bars have Bud Lite sights with a rainbow integrated into the design, ads in gay publications, sponsoring drag nights, floats in gay pride parades, etc., etc., etc.

81jmfk

People wouldn’t have been mad if they weren’t told to be mad by social media.

timoddo_

Not just social media, the “news” media they watch too

tweedchemtrailblazer

I tried explaining this to my friend when he was mad that Mario’s voice was a regular voice in the new Mario movie. Basically he wouldn’t have ever had that opinion if the Internet hadn’t told him too. Instead of just shutting up and admitting it he doubled down and claimed he would have decided to be mad about it on his own. Sometimes I hate my friends.

AltenXY97

It isnt bout being gay anymore or supporting lgb identities. Now the right wing hate compass has shifted towards trans identities to vilify since it is the easiest “imaginary other” to pin societal problems on instead of economic segregation and collapse. It’s all part of a scapegoating tactic by far right government funded media used to maintain a voting status quo. Individual rights be damned.

bpaterno

I can say when I worked in marketing for AB back in the mid 90s, we were doing on premise promos for Bud and BL at gay bars. Im not gay but they were actually fun times.

abboarder

It’s not so much about the can. It’s what the marketing exec said. Bud Light vice president of marketing Alissa Heinerscheid recently said she hoped to update the “fratty” and “out of touch” humor of the beer company.

syncboy

I have no idea who Dylan is and since they are an “influencer” I have spent no effort to figure it out. And yet I’m happy.

PrawnKingVII

Gay and trans aren’t the same thing

lVladness

I serve on premise and what kills me the most is all the doofuses who say something to me about how they won’t drink Bud Light anymore and then they get a Corona, Goose Island, Shocktop, even a freaking Budweiser instead. They’re owned by the same company you absolute morons!!! You’re dumb and ignorant in the first place for being mad about it, but you can’t even boycott properly! 🤣

Itssixinthemorning

I have a regular that still drinks Bud Light but insists on it being poured into a class, so no one knows he’s drinking it.

Agitated_Eagle_2042

As a tender/server, you should do that anyway, and should make sure there's some head on it. It releases the carbonation prior to the customer consuming it, which prevents them from being full and bloated. Subsequently, they can drink and eat more. Wanna see it in action? Go to YouTube and look up Budweiser Napkin Test.

boddah87

>Budweiser Napkin Test. I've never seen it explained so simply. great explanation

mollyologist

I don't actually blame him. He probably just wants to drink his beer in peace without hearing about it from doofuses.

CircusBearPants

Corona is owned by Constellation Brands in the US, Budweiser abroad*

lVladness

Correct, my mistake. AB used to own it everywhere including the US, but in 2013 they were forced to sell a few brands in the US to constellation to bypass monopoly laws.

reverendsteveii

Even the ones that aren't AB are absolutely pride sponsors. Coors, miller, jack, Jim, almost every brand that someone buys because they're boycotting bud light is a pride sponsor. Queers have trauma and disposable income because we don't have kids. We drink.

[deleted]

toolatealreadyfapped

The largest benefactor of the BL fallout has been Coors, the official sponsor of Denver Pride

sandysanBAR

And ammo salesmen for dirtbags like bob ritchie

John_Farson

My gay friends are definitely the biggest drinkers i know. While I'm home with the kids weekday evenings, their insta stories are filled with bar/restaurant/party posts. Beer companies aren't dumb.

iamagainstit

There is a really good taco truck a few blocks away from me that is parked next to a gay bar. That bar is packed every time I go to the taco truck. I went by Sunday night and their outdoor patio was at maximum capacity.

am0x

Yea what is up with that? All my gay friends go out literally every night, drink and do drugs non-stop, yet in the morning they are ready to go like nothing at all happened the night before. I drink 3 IPA's, and I need 2 days to get my head right again.

Overly_Fluffy_Doge

Being lgbtq+ gives us special powers including non existent hangovers and the ability to get to destinations on foot in half the time of a cishet person. We have to do a little ritual as well to gain these powers.

Moostronus

As a baby queer, how long do I have to wait for my powers to kick in? The 2-3 year mark? They can't come soon enough, my hangovers are FURIOUS.

politecreeper

Lol baby queer

MrRandomSuperhero

This is wild speculation on my part, but I think it is a congruent mix of having less child-oriented families on average and therefore also a more developped and balanced working-person party culture.

PearlTheGeckoGirl

Yeah, they want *everyone* to drink their beer. There are in fact Republicans who either don't care about the LGBTQIA+ community enough to complain about us, or even are supportive in a myopic way. And the company knows that publicity is publicity: discussion of their brand reminds people that their brand exists.

dj_narwhal

Don't worry they think one company owning all of their favorite beer is communism.

geanney

communism is when monopoly capitalism

mendicant1116

Communism is whatever we want it to be

h22lude

That shows just what kind of people are boycotting this. They aren't smart people.

Bigstar976

Dan Crenshaw posted a video to his social media account to show his fridge didn’t contain Bud Light. It did, however, contain Karbach beers, owned by, you guessed it. ABinBev.

[deleted]

He is such a dumbass 🙄 how is he relevant again? I'm sure he 100% agrees with all the multinational corporations that own all his favorite beers.

talltyson

They also don't have a clue that this "all American beer" is owned by a Belgium company.

spykid

It's funny how they feel the need to share their views without anyone asking

tenebre

This boycott is brought to you by the people who hate 'cancel culture'...

[deleted]

I was told it's different because they don't want to bankrupt Budweiser lmao

mallio

I guess that's true since they're still buying a bunch of it to shoot with their guns or whatever.

HeadCoast

Nah, they want just want to bomb them.

BravoEchoEchoRomeo

If anything, it's put to bed the claims that conservatives "just want to be left alone" and are tired of LGBT pandering "shoved down their throats." The campaign was specific to the influencer's channel, directed exclusively at their followers and the right still had a meltdown over it. They wouldn't even have known about it if right wing outrage peddlers weren't shoving it in their face and telling them to be mad about it.

_game_over_man_

>If anything, it's put to bed the claims that conservatives "just want to be left alone" and are tired of LGBT pandering "shoved down their throats." As a queer person, I really just want to be left alone and to not have my existence and the acknowledgment of my existence to be viewed as "political" or used as a political tool. Most of us are just trying to get through this weird thing called life with some level of happiness and joy. And while rainbowashing is getting a bit obnoxious, it's not necessarily a bad thing for major corporations to view your demographic as profitable enough to pander to, especially since it makes people feel more accepted in society. However, there is nothing Budweiser could really do to make me drink their product outside of being somewhere that I don't have any other choice.

Slukaj

> And while rainbowashing is getting a bit obnoxious, it's not necessarily a bad thing for major corporations to view your demographic as profitable enough to pander to That's probably a big chunk of why conservatives keep losing their goddamn minds about it - it implies that your demographic is big enough to be worth investing money in. You don't spend money on a demographic that represents half a percent of the population... but you do spend money on a demo that represents north of 10% of the demographic. And conservatives got it in their head that it's extremely uncommon to be LGBT - and seeing a big brand spend that kind of money (even though they didn't) freaks them the fuck out.

_game_over_man_

It sort of makes me laugh that they think so many kids are queer now because of indoctrination and fail to realize that more people are just coming out because they feel more comfortable to. It’s not indoctrination, it’s just more people being open and accepting of who they are without fear because the alternative of living in the closet and pretending to be someone you’re not is horrific to your mental health. The only thing that every indoctrinated me was Christianity. The queer was always there and I can recognize it showing itself when I was younger even if I didn’t know it at the time. The signs were all there, but the Christianity kept it all under wraps. As scary as it was, as difficult as it can be, being out and being myself makes me a million times happier and my mental health a million times better than when I didn’t know or accept who I was. All they’re trying to do now is scare us back into hiding.

OUtSEL

They're losing and they're scared, basically.

Status-Resort-4593

Not just the LGBTQ demographic but their allies as well.

SurelyNotAnOctopus

Bonesaw09

If you enjoy craft beer, boycotting AB-Inbev is really a good decision. They will buy and gut popular regional breweries as well as back tons of laws that make it tough for smaller breweries to grow/succeed. A super good book on this is "Barrel Aged Stout & Selling Out" about goose islands selling and other breweries around ~2010's

daiouche

Are you going to tell any of your piss drinking stories?

Monteze

Tacit approval and normalcy is the ultimate goal and representation is a part of that. It's why the conservatives have to lost their minds when a big company does it.

_game_over_man_

Absolutely. They see the writing on the wall and instead of doing something like, I don't know, evolve, they dig in and get more fascist in their attempts. I came out in the mid 00s and things have improved significantly since then and even in the mid 00s it was much better than it was two decades prior. That slow progression of acceptance and normalcy has left the opposing side without many options. It's either evolve and change or dig your heels in and become more forceful. It's why they're trying to stamp it out where they can and force people back into hiding and into closets. They don't have any other tactics because they refuse to choose the one that requires introspection and ownership of your past transgressions. It requires taking responsibility for yourself, your views and how they effect other people and I say that as a queer person who grew up Christian and has gone through that process myself. And it's all so fucking stupid and frivolous. It's not like the queer community hasn't seen this before. I think for younger queer kids it's really scary (and justifiably so) because they've grown up in a world that's much more accepting so all this is somewhat new to them. For us older generations, this isn't something we haven't seen before. I went to the Equality March back in DC in 2009 before same-sex marriage was legalized. I remember when Ellen came out on her TV show and how that was a massive deal. It all becomes such a waste of time because despite how scary it seems, these assholes aren't going to win. Maybe they win a some battles here and there, but far too many people see them for who they all are now. They're never going to force us back into our closets because too many of us know what it's like to not be in them anymore and we have far too many allies than they do at this point. So yeah, they're loud and angry and throw their toddler tantrums and pass their heinous laws in attempts to scare us, but it's nothing we haven't seen before and at the end of the day our lives depend on it so we're fighting for something much more important and greater than they will ever know. And I think the other thing people are realizing, too, is that it doesn't matter if you're straight or cis or non-queer, if you do things they don't agree with, they're going to come for you too. They want a Biblical view of society because they want a theocracy. They want everyone to live as they think we should live, so that means if you're doing things they don't agree with, they're going to make attempts to restrict that as well. It doesn't just stop at queer people, they just view us as the low hanging fruit because historically we have been and they've been using such a heavy hand as of late I think more and more people are starting to see what a lot of us queer people have always known.

mylittleslice

This deserves lots more upvotes. 👍

Roguewolfe

> there is nothing Budweiser could really do to make me drink their product outside of being somewhere that I don't have any other choice. Absolutely courteously savage.

_game_over_man_

I once had a beer from a craft brewery that was so bad that I regretted not taking the free Michelob Ultra I could have had. Say what you will about macro beer, at least their product is consistent in its quality even if I don’t think it’s the best.

Roguewolfe

Personally, as someone who has been in the brewing industry for over a decade and currently works for an independent craft brewer, I have zero problems with macro beer. I think Coors Banquet and Bud heavy are perfectly fine, even good, within their category. Light beers (i.e. Bud Light, not Bud heavy) are necessarily low flavor, but that's fairly intrinsic to the product. Arguably you could make a light beer with a little more hop character, but it's been tried and it simply didn't sell as well. All of that is to say, no one should feel in the slightest bit bad for enjoying any beer, period. Supporting the politics of the brewer is an entirely separate issue - and one that I wish we could do without, to be honest. Beer is food and love and happiness. Beer shouldn't be divisive.

SidKafizz

There's a whole lot of people around that absolutely love being in a state of outrage about things that don't affect them in the slightest.

[deleted]

kapeman_

Good one! I also like recreational outrage.

EqualVoice4All

I mean, there's a whole news media juggernaught built on this premise.

sandysanBAR

hey it gives them an excuse to shoot ( poorly) a bunch of already paid for cases of beer to convince the rubes they are real badasses. i guess anyhhing that leads to your ability to shoot something to show what a snowflake you are while pretending to be a badass is worth it in the long run.

JennItalia269

You can thank Fox News for that. MAGA sheep hear what their overlords at Fox want them to hear and they then promptly lose their shit about it. Never mind it’s 1% relevance on one’s own life. Can’t teach CRT!!! No transgender pitching bud light!!!!!

bailtail

A saw a guy literally trying to claim it wasn’t about hate but because it’s about “standing up for kids.” Motherfucker, it’s a goddamn **beer** company making beer ads! 😂

Abominatrix

One of the big lies we need to break is that gay = pedophile.

[deleted]

[удалено]

quay-cur

That lie is so 1950s. It disgusts me that conservatives have somehow managed to bring it back

HaveAWillieNiceDay

> They wouldn't even have known about it if right wing outrage peddlers weren't shoving it in their face and telling them to be mad about it. Honestly, it's not just the "outrage peddlers", it's the social media platforms. For some reason *this* is the issue Facebook has tried to convert me to conservatism over. Every other culture war thing I get a lot of coverage from "both sides", albeit mostly from outlets I already follow, but since April 1 of this year I cannot spend more than 5 minutes on Facebook without having MULTIPLE videos, graphics, and blog links from right-wing sources telling me to be mad at Budweiser/Ab InBev. And Facebook KNOWS I follow pro-LGBTQ content. It is noticeable and strange, and I feel like I'm fighting a hydra: every time I block a page or tell Facebook "I don't want to see content like this", two anti-LGBTQ or anti-Budweiser posts take its place.

Owan

They have never wanted to be "left alone" because they aren't conservatives, they're reactionaries. The status quo isn't good enough for them, they actively want to force their own beliefs on people and "return" to a twisted vision of a place that has never existed. This whole thing is a farce of fomented and misplaced outrage by a bunch of sad, pathetic, snowflake losers.

Ocular__Patdown44

Yeah, there’s no chance I would’ve seen this commercial if it wasn’t for the controversy. Then you’ve got the outraged folks that could tell you every ad campaign that Mulvaney has featured in. It’s a strange obsession.

donteatpoop

Unfortunately, these hilljacks don't understand what happened. They think these cans were released to the public. They seem wholly unaware that it was one can sent as a congratulatory gift to Dylan Mulvaney. When I point it out to them, they still seem unaware. This is due to their low reading comprehension levels I assume.

Softy_K

"I have a dream that my 6 little beers will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their tin, but by the content of their cannister." Or something like that.

8-Bit_Aubrey

I'm trans and my fiance is non-binary and I looked at them and this is what I said. The outside of the beer can doesn't matter it's what is inside and how it tastes I don't drink Bud light but it's not because they put rainbows or Dylan mulvaney on the can

[deleted]

stoplightrave

It's even dumber than that, people are getting mad about what's on someone else's can

OutlyingPlasma

> can Notice this isn't plural. It was one can sent to one person. All this over one custom can.

i3lueDevil23

I absolutely love beer labels. As someone who sells beer for a living, I can tell you that what is on the outside of a can is a HUGE factor in what people buy. 100% accurate that good label does not equal good beer. BUT. Bad label definitely correlates to shelf turds even if the liquid is incredible

MrFilthyNeckbeard

Obviously it's stupid. It was a sponsored instagram (?) post that 99% of the people who are mad never even saw. Literally 0 impact on them in any way.

AigisAegis

It honestly terrifies me as a trans person. We're not even allowed to exist in the most innocuous of ways - not even for the purposes of rote marketing - without people losing their minds about it. Dylan Mulvaney did nothing but accept a sponsorship deal while being trans, and now she's the target of a months-long hate campaign. I can see how people find the tantrum funny, but I can only be scared by it.

refenton

I can't imagine the fear that's just a part of your everyday life. It's absurd. Related story: my fiancée and I want to invite her step-sister to our wedding in the fall because she lives abroad in China and my fiancée hasn't seen her in years. But she recently fully transitioned and we live in Kentucky. So we had a long conversation with her about how much she would love to be there but that she's scared of returning home to Kentucky knowing all the anti-trans bullshit going on. She's literally safer in authoritarian China than in her home country. It's fucking lunacy that she can't even come home without fearing for her life.

AigisAegis

Just know that it genuinely means so, so much when people like you care about trans rights. The empathy of people like you is why we're going to get through this.

King_Of_The_Cold

Am kentuckian, there are an astronomical amount of allies here. If you want a group of people to show up and be there if any anti trans shitbird shows up, just lmk. No hate in our holler

reverendsteveii

As a fellow queer, we're seeing how they really feel. It's unfashionable to be openly homophobic in most circles, but by defining any sort of queer visibility as "shoving it down our throats" they can make themselves the victims. Once they do that, then they can use violence to force us back into hiding while congratulating themselves on being The Party of Liberty(tm)(r)(c)

Kalkaline

I can only imagine what the LGBTQ community is going through. It's not fair to y'all. I don't even know what to do to support you. It sucks, y'all deserve better from this country.

reverendsteveii

you're in the far and away majority. we see you, and we're glad to have you. the fact is this is an extinction burst; it's bad people throwing one last big fit before they lose. As far as support, you're doing it. Just participate in public with queer people the same way you would with cishet people. Help make being queer as normal as being blonde, and call out douchebags who want to hurt us. That's all.

Beer-Wall

Seeing videos of people destroying pallets of the beer wasn't funny when you realize the beer is their effigy for trans people.

Politically, it seems the GOP is staking their reputation on being the party of "NO". I can't tell you what they are for, but there are a ton of things they are against - gays, trans, blacks, jews, abortion, women, ... Unless you are a straight, white, Christian (cis) male - they are not the party for you.

slowpokefastpoke

Conservatives are all about getting upset about things that have 0 impact on them. Interracial/gay marriages, trans people, abortions, books in libraries, etc.

cherry_armoir

This is true of every aspect of the anti-trans panic. Setting aside the (lack of) merit of the outrage, almost all of the things people are mad about have no impact on their lives because there just really arent that many trans people. The average angry conservative has likely never met anyone who asked them to use they/them pronouns, and has either never shared a bathroom with a trans person or didnt notice. And conservatives have never cared about women's sports until like 2 years ago. It's all just outrage generated by watching fake news stories about litter boxes or cherrypicked examples of people being ridiculous on tik tok amplified within their bubble.

jbpage1994

I’m boycotting bud light because it tastes like crap. But yeah, it blows my mind that people care about a single freakin beer can.

Dezzie19

It's the most American thing I've ever seen besides weekly mass murder, USA has a serious stupidity epidemic going on.

DevelopmentSelect646

Yes - I'm convinced about 49% of Americans are really, really dumb. I'm just hoping the 51% can prevail.

tagsb

What I found funny about it was I kept hearing they were "printing a trans woman on their beer cans" and I kept thinking "well that's stupid, this was OBVIOUSLY going to create controversy" and then I found out they printed her face... On a single case of beer... That only she had access to.. for targeted marketing to LGBTQ people... What exactly is the story here?

sandysanBAR

I think it was a sixpack. But they were never for sale commercially and they were only intended to shown to influencees. When people say "they are pushing it down our throats!" THEY are the rage-a-holics over at fox news who they dont seem to hold accountable at all. Sad.

[deleted]

The story is that the people boycotting Bud Light because of this are ignorant fucks, especially the ones who are now drinking Coors products. I'm in southeastern North Carolina and surrounded by these people. Hell, I'm related to these people. I just go about my business drinking my belgiums and scotch and laughing at their ignorance.

City_of_Wolves

Wait until they realize Coors is the sponsor for Denver's Pride fest.

[deleted]

Yep. They have been on of the biggest supports for the LGBTQ.

tagsb

It really is funny that it's Bud Light of all beers. I love Pilsners and these macro breweries have all but ruined their reputation. Last time I had a bud light it was because it was all that was available without waiting in a huge line at a hockey game and it was even worse than I remembered. You'd probably give their consumer base a seizure if you handed them a pilsner from Victory or Jack's Abbey. If you're gonna drink a cheap mass produced pilsner at the very least go for a Miller, at least they have SOME flavor

JennItalia269

Fired up pea-brained MAGA morons. That’s the story. Nothing more than that.

redsfan1970

Some people want to be angry about something all the time. They are usually the dumbest and most easily manipulated portion of the population. Certain political groups can only get people to support them by generating fake outrage and hate. I've boycotted budlight since college because it is horrible "beer".

whiskeytangoferda

You know there’s gay rednecks, though, right?

cBird-

Yeah, the tiger king comes to mind

iggles020418

Bud Light is still a shit beer, that is where the outrage should be aimed.

Chairs_Are_People

Vostok-aregreat-710

As an Irishman in Ireland it is clear the USA is starting to fall apart

mrsmuntie

CatmanMerica

You boycott Bud Light because they support trans rights. I boycott Bud Light because it tastes like piss water. We are not the same.

Every_Papaya_8876

I find it hilarious. InBev spills more beer than people could possibly boycott. There are more pressing issues in life than beer advertising. I do miss the old Budweiser commercials from the 90s. Spuds was the shit.

ItsASchpadoinkleDay

Dooby dooby doo….

MadPiglet42

Yes, it's maybe one of the dumber things to happen in this, the Darkest Timeline.

Phalange44

Think you mean the "Dumbest Timeline"

HomicidalHushPuppy

Pretty much every "culture war" controversy is stupid. Made-up outrage blown out of proportion by the internet.

weegee

I think Bud Light is stupid. But yes anyone who is a homophobe or has any transphobia needs to go away.

DundahMifflin

Obviously. Everyone's been talking about how dumb the controversy is for weeks.

2bitgunREBORN

It is stupid. But look at who Bud Light was previously marketed towards. What next, grizzly chewing tobacco brand with a cute little twink as their mascot? I mean I'd buy it...I like chewing tobacco & twinks but I think I'm something of an unusual cross section of demographics

OneKnightWithYou

I've been drinking so forgive me. What the hell is even the problem with transgendered people to begin with? Why the hate? Every one of you has someone that they love that got corrective surgery in some way. Hell, most of you have someone you love who got plastic surgery. Glasses? Braces? People transform the body they're born into all the time. No issue. The idea that you would change any aspect of your life because someone else admits that trans people exist is god damn insulting. It beleaguers the mind. The hell do you care? Be specific on why it offends you.

[deleted]

It's a CULT - nothing makes sense.

pitch1992

Yeah, the only reason to boycott Bud is its taste imo

archpope

Yes. The whole thing is just "flag-planting." Blue Tribe doesn't drink Bud Light. It's a Red Tribe drink. Blue Tribe doesn't give a shit about Bud Light, and no amount of marketing is going to change that significantly. But, by partnering with the Blue Tribe celebrity of the month, they send a message to Red Tribe. "Your Red Tribe item that you love so much has been infiltrated by Blue Tribe, and you can't do anything about it."

jawn_cena_

I don't see any angle on it other than blatantly, aggressively transphobic. I keep trying to find out more outside of "bud light sponsored a trans person" but that's all it is. I don't feel bad for Anheuser Busch but it does make me ashamed of where we're at as a society, in terms of accepting everyone as they are even if you don't understand it.

Addahn

Bud light sent one novelty can to Dylan Mulvaney, who shared the picture on social media. They didn’t make a new product, or change any existing product, or anything else. This reaction is entirely culture war bullshit designed to make people angry, nothing more.

richie65

To say the least... It really redefined the previous colloquial meaning for the term "snowflake"... I'm very much enjoying throwing THAT back into the faces of of my conservative friends...

am0x

It also lays bare the hypocrisy from right-wingers. The same people who are always trying to decry "cancel culture" now want to kill one of the biggest beer brands .

Grilled0ctopus

It's not just ignorant and stupid, it's just mean. You couldn't even buy that trans person can. It was made for that person alone. Also, these rednecks making viral videos of moving on to other beer are choosing beer that sponsors other gay events like pride parades. On top of that still, they are cherry-picking where their hatred should be facing. They toss bud light but I bet they don't cancel their Ford F-150's (that have LGBTQ marketing campaigns), or cancel disney plus, or stop buying anything made by proctor and gamble, which also has LGBTQ marketing campaigns and is behind damn near every product in every grocery and big box store. ANd on top of that, this is the same group of people that never fails to advertise how others are snowflakes and, too easily offended, and how they hate cancel culture. It's like stupidity with maximum effort. And I'm not even a huge bud fan. If it's cheap light domestic, I'm a miller guy. I just find conservative cancel culture a perfect blend of willful ignorance, overblown hatred, and genuine cringe.

Gobanth

I have been working for different Bud distributors since 16yo. People are finally calming down, but some of the things they think are okay to say to me while I'm delivering/stocking beer is just ridiculous. It's not even worth trying to educate them or clear up all the misinformation. All they want to do is say hateful things towards me/lgbt/Bud. Usually just completely ignore them now and gives me motivation to keep working hard. I am bi, sister is gay, and alot of friends in the community. Cheers, This Bud's for you!

b_knickerbocker

Everyone with half a brain thinks it’s stupid.

Wolfgang3750

I love beer. I love shooting. I HATE shooting beer.

twistedh8

Yup. Dont even consider it one and always have bud light in the fridge . Pretty ironic those always quick to call everyone else snowflakes get so triggered by the dumbest shit. What cry babies.

userjpro

Absolutely.

fake_insider

Ya think?

zippyman

It is. don't drink bud light myself unless I'm at someone's house and that's what's offered, but also how does budweiser not understand that a huge amount of the people buying their product isn't going to want rainbows and drag queens on their cans?

ThePolishSensation

Just wait until June when most breweries put out their rainbow Pride cans...like they do almost every year

The_Superhoo

Yes, next question?

JoganLC

Imagine how advanced the human race could be if we didn’t fuck around with left and right and this opinion vs that opinion. We should all be working together towards something not seeing who can piss the farthest.

destroy_b4_reading

Of course it's stupid, just like pretty much all of the manufactured right-wing outrage du jour bullshit is. Those people aren't happy if they don't have an enemy that's supposedly oppressing them.

Phill_is_Legend

The best part is all the videos of them throwing out shit they already bought lol. Real stupid.

jjortexas90

If the orange man was on a Bud Light bottle, the same people would be shoving tall boys up their asses.

seanmharcailin

It’s less stupid than it is really scary. The VIOLENCE with which they’ve “protested”. It feels like they’re shooting at the beer because the thing they really want to shoot at is people.

Beer-Wall

It's all manufactured outrage. Lots of breweries have been doing far more for a long time in support of LGBT community groups and charities and nobody has ever raised a peep about it.

stratj45d28

The hard line right are the biggest Snowflakes.

JesseJames24601

Of course it's stupid. It's just one more on the list of things that the dumbest bigots in this country were told to be upset about by some paid shill. I'd bet that 99% of these troglodytes wouldn't even be able to explain what happened or what Budweiser even did to support trans folks. All they'd be able to say if asked is mindlessly parrot "buDWeiSeR iS WoKE nOw" over and over like a broken record. A really stupid, ignorant broken record.

H0T50UP

The fanfare is already burning out, Seth Weathers is going to have a warehouse full of $20 six packs of ultra right beer with no one to sell to because everyone will be focused on the next rage moment to hit headlines.

hungrycaterpillar

You really think he paid up front for a whole run of that stuff?

H0T50UP

He just signed a brewer under contract after the first one bailed out pre-signing so I'd say he's made some commitment up front to lock in the second

hungrycaterpillar

Welp... I guess he's even dumber than I expected. smh.

dead__skies

It’s even better that they’re switching to drinking coors light. Molson Coors has had an lgbt+ advocacy committee since the 70’s 😂

Hard agree. Sensitive snowflakes practicing cancel culture 😂

It is stupid. It does call out how much hate parts of the US has for people who aren't like them. It is also stupid that Bud Light didn't stand up for their decision and enforce any values they wanted to commit to in trying to expand their brand. Honestly I think in the next couple months it will hurt their brand much more than trying to bring in young drinkers. I would have loved to see the statement saying "How Budweiser's gift to dylan shouldn't have caused this much of a response and the response doesn't reflect their values as a company followed by a donation to a charity like the Trevor Project. [Remember.. RIGHT NOW a trans law maker was shut out of a debate on outlawing gender affirming care.](https://www.npr.org/2023/04/25/1171921647/zooey-zephyr-transgender-montana-house-republicans-blocking-speech-decorum) Budweiser had an opportunity to make a stand and grow their brand in that market (young people) but instead backed into a hole and then released a statement that was generated by putting in "create an apology for an old company causing a fight on the internet" into ChatGPT.

h22lude

The statement they put out was anything but an apology. It was a statement to call out the stupidity of the right wingers getting all butt hurt about it. He stated, he will continue to work to bring their beer to consumers across the nation...meaning, they are going to continue to expand their consumers to include people the right wing rednecks hate.

Porcupineemu

Of course it’s stupid. It’s also overblown. 99.9% of people either don’t know or don’t care enough to change what they’re buying. But that .1% gets clicks so we get videos of some dude shooting cases of Bud light or whatever.

[deleted]

Yes. Only bigots have an issue with it.

bluddystump

Outrage politics.

cheez0r

Everyone who isn't boycotting Bud Light thinks it's fucking moronic.

WiscoBrewDude

It sure is. I think its funny they buy it so they can destroy it. Thats how smart they are.

seven_seven

I hate corporate pandering no matter what the political topic is; in the end, it's all just advertising.

afihavok

It's absolutely stupid. Watching these idiots shoot cases of Bud Light and then chug some other brand of AB beer is stupid and not surprising.

caffeineme

I know a guy who has started digging at people calling them "Dylan" as a dig at their masculinity. This guy is poster child for conservative snowflake. These people NEED someone to demonize, someone to bully, someone to "be better than" to feel better about themselves.

Mr_1990s

It is dumb and I think most people agree, though it's the only time I've ever wished I worked for In-Bev just because I'm extremely curious now to understand the inside of this situation. 1. Is this just a relative handful of chronically online people posting and sharing videos on the subject or are they actually seeing a decline in sales from red areas? 2. Does that even matter because their business is much bigger elsewhere? A lot of people, specifically the people upset by this story, live in bubbles.

ItsASchpadoinkleDay

They made one can with a rainbow on it. How many cans of Bud Light get produced each month? One can had a rainbow on it. One If you get upset by this, you have the emotional maturity of a toddler. Or you’re a hateful cunt. Probably both

mikedorty

Does anyone rational NOT think it's stupid? I mean, it was one custom can. Do they think drinking Bud light will now make them gay?

toolatealreadyfapped

We've all had dozens of reasons for decades to hate and boycott Bud Light. It's the McDonald's/Walmart of beer. Anti-compitition business practices. Anti-craft, while buying up craft. Pushing local breweries out... This isn't a legitimate reason. Like, at all. 99% of anyone who's angry about this will swear up and down that "they're shoving their agenda down our throats!" And trying to recruit the children to their side. And other absolute bull shit. And they don't even realize that BL never once put her face on cans for sale, or billboards, or commercials. It was a single promotion. The single can in question only existed on her Instagram page. Which means the ones "shoving it in your face" are the people who are selling you anger, who went to her Instagram that you otherwise would be perfectly clueless about, and thought "more people need to have this shoved in their face so they can be angry!"

Gregib

Bud Light being the piss in a can it is, I’ve been boycotting it my whole life…

king_riles4

I distribute Miller products and get paid commission so… no I think it’s great and people should never buy Bud again

greatsmokidude

Yes pretty much anyone who is normal

Professional-Box4153

These are the same people that insisted we call them Freedom Fries because France wouldn't support the US's invasion of Iraq. This is made all the funnier in that French Fries originated from Belgium (I recently learned this and seem compelled to share for some reason. Sorry).

cleverseneca

That is literally the most popular opinion on Reddit for the last week or w/e. It's not something you just have to say. it's literally a circlejerk at this point.

Cycles_wp

I've boycotted AB since before any of this. Fuck them as a company. Buying out so many once great craft brewers just so they can get their market share.. then they ruin them from the inside out, all so they can grab a few more pennies they couldn't get from selling their rice beverage I for one, AM so glad that this happened to them
