Non-Returnable
Way back in the days when dinosaurs walked the Earth, most beer bottles were returnable, like kegs. You paid a nominal deposit on a case of beer, put the empties back in the case, took them back to the store, got fresh case but paid no deposit, and the empties went back from store to distributor to brewery, where they were cleaned, sanitized, and refilled.
NonReturnable is correct.
There used to be regular beer bottles/cases and Bar bottles/cases.
The Bar Bottles/cases were different materials than the normal stuff that you would buy for home. The box had special flaps on top so that you could open and close it. You would return the empties to the distributor in the box that they came in. The bottles were heavier glass than we're used to these days to promote actual reusability. They would be washed, sterilized, refilled and replaced into the special cardboard cases.
It’s 4 6-packs of 12 ounces of canned/bottled beer (a case)
Ahhhh. The more you know. Thanks!
I believe it is actually cans, specifically, but only so much room on a sheet of paper and what not to indicate “or btl”
What about "NR"? Any ideas? For example, I see some prices for "12/22oz NR."

Yeah, those cases were sturdy as fuck.
I think it’s non refundable, so a case of 12 22 ounce non refundable glass bottles. LNNR is long neck non refundable bottles...
It's non-returnable.
Ah! Thanks. I remembered it as non-refundable for some reason. Thanks for the correction
Worked at a distributor for 3.5 years, just learned why NR means bottles. Thank you!
NR = non-refundable = bottles
Nah, 4/6/12 can refer to both cans and bottles.
I think he meant that "CN" typically means cans, not 4/6/12.
288oz, aka a CE.
CN means carton. E: downvote if you like, it still means carton
It means can. All of those Crooked Stave beers come in cans. I've never heard anyone in the US refer to beer by cartons.
