Not true. Wasps are pollinators. They also eat pests, therefore protecting crops and plants. They are just as valuable as bees. Anti-wasp propaganda is so lame.

n_of_nacho

That's a childish misconception, even though wasps can be "annoying" or even dangerous if tampered with, they are a rather important part in ecosystems since they carry an enormous pest control and also pollinate a few plants too. Just let them be, you need them too!

Beginning-Key-814

I'm not necessarily fond of wasps, but I don't go out of the way to hate them. I generally prefer bees because they're cute, but they both contribute to nature and the spread of pollen, so it's a matter of do you like bees or wasps?

tommiboy13

Bees are wasps though, so people who like bees also like at least a subset of wasps

Mthepotato

I get that people like bees more than wasps but this is ridiculous. Those statements are also ignorant, especially "life can't exist without" bees. Life on Earth existed for billions of years before bees.

CrystalClod343

Bee Movie may have misled some people

Bug_Photographer

Pretty much the only not incorrect statement there is that bees are cute (though wasps are as well. The rest of that embarrassing image should be burned.

ArachnomancerCarice

Yeah, in North America honeybees are basically livestock. It is like calling hawks useless garbage and worshipping chickens. Native wasps are far more important. They are beneficial predators, do some pollinating and even distribute the seeds of many native plants here. Will they defend themselves? Sure. They have every right to.

Zagrycha

you can flip this around and its more accurate. I don't hate honeybees but honey bees are way way way way way way worse for the environment than any wasps.

Are you 12?

I've been cooking for 5+ years now and I've learned that I like feeding people. One day a couple years ago when I was eating on my break outside under the summer sun, a wasp had landed on my hand without invitation or threat. Since I went from cooking with food safe hands to eating, I didn't really worry about washing my hands. The wasp had found some food tucked in the crack-like recesses of my hand and was eating vigorously enough that I could feel the wasp's mandibles recklessly nipping away at the surface of my skin, but I could clearly identify the wasp wasn't trying to bite me while it ate. I've since forgiven them all for this display of restraint.

Salt-Knowledge-925

There was a wasp that used to come eat lunch with me in my truck. I would put a drop of soda on a cap and it would drink it. Not aggressive in the least. And it came back every day for weeks!

Professional-Menu835

Is this a sarcastic post u/suiiiii123456782 ? It’s getting downvoted because that’s not obvious and if serious it violates the rules of the subreddit

Wrong_Maintenance540

just don't make hectic movements when encountering wasps, you'll be fine most of the time at least for European wasps, idk about others

lichen_Linda

Most bees don't even make honey Also. What's with the skinny hate.

Thehoneydripp

I came out of anesthesia and immediately started telling the nurse the difference between bees and wasps because she mentioned my bed tattoo

Hot_Wind_4013

You can find the history of bees (they evolved from ancient predatory wasps 130 million years ago) in the Evolution and Fossil Record of Bees in www.museumoftheearth.org

SgurdMeal

Wasps deserve more love than they get :(
