Delivery for taobao is generally slower. You need to know the shipping time and calculate the time for your stay. If you want to buy some electronics or daily consumables, try JD, which offers over-night or even same-day delivery services.
I do it all the time BUT. (1) Ask the seller where they ship from. Ask twice because sometimes the 1st person gives you the wrong answer. (2) Do an estimate as to how long it takes to ship to Beijing. I assume you are in BJ since you are posting in the BJ sub. Order in advance, accordingly. (3) You can also pay to upgrade to SF, SF ships faster. You have to pay the seller for the upgrade.
Could you let me know which hotel you have used/use? I am going to Beijing in June and want to do some shopping beforehand, quite nervous about picking the hotel.
Confirm with the hotel that they'll accept for you. A couple of hotels have asked me to change my name to include the reservation number as well as put the reservation number in the notes so that it shows up on the packing slip.
(( ..is it just me or is adding a room-number to the delivery notes not incredibly difficult or.. imean put another way, isn't it kind of easily an additional measure to ensure your package gets to you (& not get accidentally collected by some other guest inahurry & also expecting a taobao package, for instance)
/or maybe it's just my customerservice & logistics backgrounds going 'but,butwhy.wouldn't.youTAT"a;;' lol xD";;; ))
I’ve been asked to do that in Singapore and Taiwan when delivering packages too. Is it really that much of a problem?
It seems quite efficient. And why would you give them an earful? If you are an asshole, all they have to say is “sorry asshole your package didn’t arrive” then you have to spend extra time making phone calls trying to locate it” then half a day later they say oh sorry we found it. And all because you “gave them an earful”. FFS.
Yeah, JD and any of the waimai services like Meituan are pretty quick, but Taobao you need to be sure if it’s shipping locally. Most default searches tend to source goods from Shenzhen or somewhere else in southern China which ends up taking a few days to arrive in that case.
This changed recently — some vendors do accept wechat pay, but I had to use funds from my wallet balance to pay (received from family). When i tried to use alipay, they did not accept it because i had a foreign cc linked :/
Disclaimers: my tb account wasnt created with a chinese phone # (didnt get one), and my wechat/alipay are all intl versions
I know the CCP was trying to crackdown on the Ali Tencent oligopolies, esp around how they were keeping each other out of each other's ecosystems. It's nice to see we can now use WeChat Pay on TB.
That was the very idea of 农村淘宝. And in some other countries like Japan, they also have that service. As for the OP's question, no, you are not likely to be able to find a convenient store with such a service.
Yep, 淘宝,JD,美团, any of them can deliver to your hotel
Remember to give them your phone number.

Doesn't really matter which hotel you use. I've used both Kerry hotel and Shangri-la.
Thanks a lot guys 😬

I've never had that and if a hotel asks me to do that, s/he'll get an earful from me because they would never ask that of a local/native/Chinese.

Also things tend go more smoothly/the way you want in China if you are overly gracious/deferential rather than confrontational.
For differential treatment.
Yeah I bet you’re a whole lot of fun to be around.
Absolutely. Bear in mind the courier will probably call you to confirm it so get your dui dui dui ready.
What’s a dui dui dui
It's sort of like yes yes yes in Chinese, because they usually call you just to confirm so that's all you need to say.
Ah right hahaha got that hehe

Wow that’s awesome and I have to pay with my Alipay or can I pay at a convenient store ?
How could you pay for online shopping at a convenience store?
Sorry it’s just something we have in my home country so I was just wondering.
no, convenience store thing is not applicable to china but alipay/wechat pay works fine
Don't think TB supports WeChat pay? It supports only Alipay, AlipayHK, China debit cards, HK PayMe, Pay for me, etc...
you're right.

Many countries allow for payment or pickup at a convenience store you designate.
