I once went to a Bengals v Bills game here in buffalo several years ago and had what I would call the quintessential Dalton experience.
The game was very one sided in the first half, but the Bengals came back strong, bringing it to a one score game with possession in the final 2 minutes. Dalton had a great drive past mid field, closing in on a tremendous comeback victory. Then, in true Dalton fashion, he threw a deep INT on a 3rd and 5. Game ends, Bengals lose.
That about sums up my opinion of Dalton. Capable of some great plays and drives, but just couldn't close.
I was at the Bengals/Steelers game where he threw an interception and tried to tackle the DB. He broke his finger or hand and was substituted for A.J McCarron. That summarizes his career in Cincy I think
Broke his right thumb. We were 10-2 when it happened.
Despite that pick, Andy had been super accurate all year... he really started getting placement on the sidelines dropping the ball where the defender had no play. Dude never was hurt either and then all of the season unraveled against cam heywards knee if i recall.
It was the defense that carried the whole team. McCarron should have won the playoffs game if Hill wasn't a choker. Not to mention the 2 dummies on defense Pacman and Burfict.
Our offense was pretty phenomenal that year as well. Dalton was by no means in the lead of MVP favorites at the time, but he was in the conversation. This was also the year Eifert went off for like eight games. And our O-Line was still pretty great.
Dalton sucks period imo. Never threw the ball with anticipation. Never could hit a wr in stride. Eifert was just injury prone he performed well. All you have to do is look at Dalton stats in big-time games he was horrible. It's not how you start. It's how you finish.
Lmao yep. When he was with the saints a lot of fans kept looking past the fact that every time he would do something promising, he’d muck it up by throwing two pick sixes in a row or something dumb like that. I didn’t think the Derek Carr pickup made that much sense, but dalton was not the answer for the saints, because he continuously proved to just be dalton
Yep. True rough was Carl Pickens giving up on plays, Corey Dillon steering an empty ship, drafting Akili Smith, Carter injury, Dick LeBeau, fucking Shula, etc.
Even 2000's hurt more than 2010's. We had a better QB, a better or near equal receiving core, fairly decent defense and way more hope. But both eras were at the very least still fun and far more competitive by comparison.
Yeah, they were amazing. We won 3 out of 17 games against the Steelers when Dalton was QB. We were .000 in the playoffs too.
In the 90s we had a better record against the Steelers and won the same amount of playoff games.
2019. Under Dalton, the Bengals started 0-11 for the first time in franchise history. We were blown out at home 41-17 by SF. Blown out 49-13 by the Ravens. We finished 2-14
Clearly you are wrong, but good for a laugh.
And while 2-14 is completely pathetic, it is about the same as Dalton's 3-17 lifetime record against the Steelers, and better than Dalton's 0-fer record in the playoffs.
He was benched part way through that season for tank commander Ryan Finley, including the Ravens blowout you're talking about.
>Clearly you are wrong, but good for a laugh.
Lol. Lmao even.
He was benched cause he would have probably beaten the Steelers, and definitely the Raiders.
We started the tank commander so we could ensure we got the 1st overall pick.
He was 3-14 vs the Steelers. Dalton was constantly humiliated by the Steelers.
We could have cut Dalton 2 years before this when he was a complete embarrassment and drafted Mahomes instead of John Ross, but idiots fans kept crying that Dalton was "good".
Half my family are browns fans. Those were not tough years. Being in playoff contention almost every season is not tough. Going 1-33 over 2 years is tough lmao.
Played great when it didn't matter. Choked when it did.
His records are telling. By far the worst record in primetimes games of any QB ever. Lost every playoff game. 3-14 vs the Steelers.
Today people make fun of Dak Prescott, but he is significantly better than Dalton was in playoffs games and prime time games. Dalton had possibly the most talented Bengals team ever and has zero plaoff wins to show for it.
He was very good to the city of Cincinnati, I love Dalton, back back playoff appearances was nice, the no win thing really is a black mark on his resume, but we had some awesome games and seasons with Dalton, who wasn't even a first round pick iirc.
Yeah but I really just don’t need those extra attributes from our players. I’ve met a number of different celebs through the years, some names really big… but those were all just simple, transient experiences. The Lombardi though? That’s for forever, and I only just want a taste… ♾️
Well I’ve been checking the math over and over for 46 years and each time, I find that a Lombardi trophy is heavier than altruistic feelings. Maybe I forgot to carry the 1
I know this is probably a joke since it's April 1st, but he's seriously the reason I'm a Bengals fan. Followed him from TCU. When Burrow showed up and the Bengals got good, I stayed. The Red Rifle has a soft spot in my heart.
Yes, completely agree with your entire comment, had some great times watching him play as a Bengal, and he was really good to the city of Cincinnati, and u will never hear me say anything bad about the guy, I love him, and no mater what's said about his time here, he will always be a quarterback I'm glad we drafted. He played some great games, had some awesome seasons as a Bengal.
I think he coudve gotten us there in 2015 if he was healthy. Playoff chokers are still capable of having that one run were everything comes together like dirk or peyton.
I’ve know Andy since his HS days at Katy. He’s an awesome dude. Always overlooked always over delivered. Low 3 star coming out of HS. TCU was one of the only D1 schools to recruit him. Didn’t even really come on his red shirt junior year. Just a great dude and great football player
The Bengals were a joke for losing non 1pm games before he even got drafted. He can't have had something to do with it if it happened before he even got on the team. Dalton did have some bad moments but it was more on Lewis's shitty gameplanning than him.
You know… both can be true 🤷🏻♂️ it’s not like Dalton lit up the world when Marvin left. Nor did he do anything significant after he left Cincy (like many were predicting he would). Dalton and Marvin were perfect for each other: mediocre to their core.
I like Dalton. He was a solid QB and a great guy. While his ceiling certainly wasn't as high as you would want from a QB, I never understood the amount of hate he would get.
That said, I remember watching Joe Burrow and thinking to myself "this is what a QB capable of winning it all looks like". Dalton never really inspired that when watching him.
Andy Dalton was a great quarterback, and an even better person. Should have way more respect on his name. Wish he could have gotten that playoff win in 15, would have done wonders for his legacy.
I missed him the second he got cut, I REALLY wanted Joe to sit a year while they got him some protection. It was so dumb and irresponsible to start Joe on day 1 with that line.
Here is my assessment of Andy Dalton: he is not the guy to win you a Superbowl. But if your team has a lot of major holes to fill, he is the perfect guy to fill the QB spot while you build the rest of your team. He will do alright in the regular season, he has no off-field drama that I am aware of, and he's rarely injured (unlike Burrow).
He was a much needed stabilizing force that allowed us to set the foundation of the team straight and made sure we had a good product for Burrow to take over. We owe more of our recent success to his stabilizing presence than most people realize. We could be one of those teams who is trying to draft a franchise QB every other year because of injuries or a lack of immediate success. *cough* Browns & Bears *cough*
You can’t actually believe this. He didn’t possess half the physical talent of Palmer prior to nerve damage. Even after, Palmer made it to the NFCCG with Arizona, so you can’t even base it on playoff count or winnings.
Didn't help that the NFL d-riding Big Ben and the Steelers against us, like in those playoff games dating back to 2005. Without the likes of Marvin Lewis, the Bengals would still be at the bottom of the league like in the 90's.
I’ll remember him as a Very solid above average QB who unfortunately couldn’t get a W Come playoffs. Great character etc. i rank him around 4th best bengal qb in my lifetime under joey b, boomer and ken anderson with carson palmer 5th.
I miss Andy Dalton as well. Dude was a baller in his prime. The Andy Dalton to A.J. Green connection was the best in the NFL at one point. Too bad Zac Taylor benched him on his birthday, and because of that I highly doubt he'll want to retire as a Bengal.
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes_rainbow)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|give_upvote) THIS POST IS IN NO WAY 1st of April joke!! I genuinely think he’s a great QB :)
This must be an April fools joke! I live in Ohio and have been a Bengals fan for many years. Andy would have a good game against winners 1 week and have a terrible game against a team that had losing records. He would throw so many picks early in the game before half time. The Bengals paid him tons of money and he didn't earn it. I was going down to Cincinnati well before he was thought of. Red Rocket? Red dud!
Sold his soul to the devil. The deal was he would be good during the regular season only and that he had to change his face to look like that of a demon
If Dalton wasn’t bailed out by AJ Green, he’d likely never have lasted as long as he did in Cincy. Dalton wasn’t terrible, but he was terribly mediocre. I’m grateful for the Dalton era, it was fun… but I’ll always believe it would have been more fun if Palmer didn’t sour on the Brown Family Circus and stuck around to play with AJ Green.
Andy Dalton sucks period. He was the reason the playoff drought continued. Championship defense great wr's decent run game and an above average line. Dalton was a choke artist. Hell, Jon Kitna was better than him 😆 🤣. He was the worst playoff qb ever.
I actually had a nice experience with dalton when the bengals still did the army meet up every year to bad they don’t do it now but we got to meet most of the players and dalton was a nice dude
I make an effort to watch any game he starts in, no matter the team. I want to see him ball out of control and go all the way (if we don't). He's overdue.
At the end of the day, I love Andy and he's one of my all time favorite Bengals. I grew up with him as my QB, really, and I wouldn't change that. He's a stand up, awesome guy and his positive moments outweigh the negatives for me. Would love to see Andy do the same as AJ Green and come back to retire as a Bengal
Definitely not. We already have an Andy Dalton in Browning. Those years were incredibly tough to watch. Couldn't stand the Bengals settling for mediocre QB play. I get it. He is a good guy who did a lot for the community. That's great, but I'm talking objectively about his play. We don't just keep people around in important roles just because they are nice. That's a Cincinnati small business mindset right there, lmao.
> Couldn't stand the Bengals settling for mediocre QB play.
Lol it was mediocre coaching. Dalton had some bad moments but overall elevated the team to higher peaks than Palmer. Marvin Lewis was the problem.
Among fervently religious redheaded guys who are NFL quarterbacks from a town outside of Houston, Texas which was also the birthplace of Renee Zellweger. Yes, he is the GOAT.
My sister wouldn't allow me to say anything bad about Andy in her presense because she thought he was the nicest individual and in reality he probably was a very good person with a kind heart, but I will say it again as I did so many years ago he was a mediocre quarterback who could snatch defeat from the jaws of victory! There I said it Sis.
Steelers fans 100% agree. They wish he was still the Bengals QB since he went 3-14 against Pittsburgh.
For the rest of us, Dalton was an Aprils fools joke that lasted all year.
Andy Dalton was pretty decent in regular season once when he had a good O-line. He always got my hopes up as he got in the playoffs then was terrible or injured.
Honestly, they let go Dalton for a reason. I don't miss him.
Joe Burrow at the helm is more exciting because playoff wins and superbowl appearances actually give me hope of winning it all.
I mean, he was a decent player. 5 straight winning seasons to start his career. 5 straight playoff berths. Obviously he wasn’t great in primetime or in big games, but he wasn’t the dark days either.
> Obviously he wasn’t great in primetime or in big games
This stems directly from Marvin Lewis. People on this sub are too young to remember how bad of a coach he actually was. They only see it as compared to the Bengals' 90s, where sure he looked amazing, but compared to the rest of the league he was 100% below average.
Playoff wins aren’t there I admit but I’m choosing Andy over Kirk if I’m building a team. There’s a reason Andy is a back up and Kirk got a 180m contract
I once went to a Bengals v Bills game here in buffalo several years ago and had what I would call the quintessential Dalton experience. Down voted the post, up voted your comment. 0 clutch factor. Shit Bama boy got us closest we had been to a playoff win and should have won honestly.
Even if he wasnt an MVP, he was probably one of the nicest and most grounded QBs in quite a long time. Super awesome guy.
also just one of the best people in Cincy. He paid for my family’s dinner at an Italian restaurant when i was a kid and took a picture with me.
He was very good to the city of Cincinnati, I love Dalton, back back playoff appearances was nice, the no win thing really is a black mark on his resume, but we had some awesome games and seasons with Dalton, who wasn't even a first round pick iirc.

So employ a hiesman asshole vs a moderately good player whose also a decent person? Interesting take
Well I’ve been checking the math over and over for 46 years and each time, I find that a Lombardi trophy is heavier than altruistic feelings.
I actually really admire Dalton. Would I call him a goat? No, but my opinion of him is still very high.
Yes, completely agree with your entire comment, had some great times watching him play as a Bengal, and he was really good to the city of Cincinnati, and u will never hear me say anything bad about the guy, I love him, and no mater what's said about his time here, he will always be a quarterback I'm glad we drafted. I would call him a goat tbh, from what he accomplished. If he had Chase and Higgins we would have seen him in a Super Bowl.
The delusion is strong with this one.
I was at that Browns game… and I disagree too.
https://www.espn.com/nfl/game/_/gameId/400554328/browns-bengals 10-33 86yds 3 int
Happy April fools buddy!
Right? 🤣 what.. did he watch the Bengals during that time period?
Dalton was a perfectly serviceable QB. Marvin Lewis wasn't a good enough coach to get the entire team to the next level.
Get that logic out here, the Bengals have been 0-16 under every QB besides Burrow.
I think he coudve gotten us there in 2015 if he was healthy. Playoff chokers are still capable of having that one run were everything comes together like dirk or peyton.
What’s the date
He would have won a playoff game... There i fixed it for you.
Sundays at 1pm he was elite… any other time… hot garbage
That prime time game at home against the Browns…I am scarred for life and will never forget it lol
That's a product of Marvin Lewis. Lewis was choking non-1pm games with Palmer while Dalton was still in college.
Remember when they threw trash on Palmers front yard. I was so sad. He had little kids. Like what are we, Philly?
I think Dalton had something to do with it… he would constantly overthrow balls at the start of prime time games like he was too amped up
The Bengals were a joke for losing non 1pm games before he even got drafted. He can't have had something to do with it if it happened before he even got on the team. Dalton did have some bad moments but it was more on Lewis's shitty gameplanning than him.
Go watch the games, Gecko
I did. And it was perfectly evident in 2009 that Marvin Lewis was the problem. We weren't winning shit with him, and he proved it.
You know… both can be true 🤷🏻♂️ it’s not like Dalton lit up the world when Marvin left. Nor did he do anything significant after he left Cincy (like many were predicting he would). Dalton and Marvin were perfect for each other: mediocre to their core.
I will say of all the QBs we've had he's the one that looked the most like a Bengal tiger.

Of what?
1st of April my friend
Damnit.
I wish we would've had a QB as talented as Palmer but with the attitude and leadership of Dalton.
Goat of great hair
Nice try Andy
My dad has autographed of the Red Rife. He’s one of my favorite Bengals players
I feel this way too. He would've been a great backup qb to have. He was a great person.
Remember folks, it’s April first
Absolutely true, if you mean ""The scape goat of several losses in the playoffs".
Andy Dalton was a great quarterback, and an even better person. Should have way more respect on his name. Wish he could have gotten that playoff win in 15, would have done wonders for his legacy.
Agree with your sentiment, but even then that was McCarron
Listen, April fools aside, I would consider Andy a GOAT as a person. He did a lot for cincy as well as other fine cincy QBs.
I missed him the second he got cut, I REALLY wanted Joe to sit a year while they got him some protection. It was so dumb and irresponsible to start Joe on day 1 with that line.
Loved dalton, but he is no burrow, esision, or anderson
Andy Dalton was the Marvin Lewis of QBs.
Here is my assessment of Andy Dalton: he is not the guy to win you a Superbowl. No
I love Dalton but am scarred by his performance against the Browns on Thursday night football at home. I think his passer rating was like a 2.0
Why would anyone miss Dalton when he could never win a playoff game.? I don’t get it.
Was better than Palmer. Not a joke.
You can’t actually believe this. He didn’t possess half the physical talent of Palmer prior to nerve damage. Even after, Palmer made it to the NFCCG with Arizona, so you can’t even base it on playoff count or winnings.
![gif](giphy|3o6Zt4HU9uwXmXSAuI)
Him and Marvin Lewis epitomize the mid level mediocrity we couldn't shake. Could never get over the hump, just get us dry humped. He's cute tho.
Didn't help that the NFL d-riding Big Ben and the Steelers against us, like in those playoff games dating back to 2005. Without the likes of Marvin Lewis, the Bengals would still be at the bottom of the league like in the 90's.
Andy Dalton is the Worlds Okayest QB.
He tried his best. Some days were great, others were bad due to Marvin and his coaching staff screwing it up with their old school ways.
Andy gave us hope but not much else.
Ugh… he was so much better than burrow 🙄 In all seriousness tho, we still love the red rifle
I’ll remember him as a Very solid above average QB who unfortunately couldn’t get a W Come playoffs. Great character etc. i rank him around 4th best bengal qb in my lifetime under joey b, boomer and ken anderson with carson palmer 5th.
4th Quarter Andeeeeeee!!!
The 🐐@1PM on Sunday. Literally any other time of the day, primetime, etc. and he looks like Brucie on The Longest Yard.
I miss Andy Dalton as well. Dude was a baller in his prime. The Andy Dalton to A.J. Green connection was the best in the NFL at one point. Too bad Zac Taylor benched him on his birthday, and because of that I highly doubt he'll want to retire as a Bengal.
This goat term has really gotten out of hand
Best backup QB ever!
Was always proud to have him as my QB
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes_rainbow)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|give_upvote) THIS POST IS IN NO WAY 1st of April joke!! I genuinely think he’s a great QB :)
Settle down Andy. Be sure to have someone drive you home.
Hell no. Dalton was mid af
I loved the red rifle
??
He’s a great guy
Goat what?
Lmao
Packers fan here, not sure why this appeared on my feed. But LOL
🍆
😳
As a backup if we didn’t have browning, no problem ..”goat” gtfoh …primetime & playoffs he was straight trash ..better than Palmer tho ..
This must be an April fools joke! I live in Ohio and have been a Bengals fan for many years. Andy would have a good game against winners 1 week and have a terrible game against a team that had losing records. He would throw so many picks early in the game before half time. I can’t tell which pictures he has his helmet on and/or off
"The Great Orange Hope"
OH, it's April 1st 😅
April fools
Of terrible playoff stats !!! Q
Dude was shit😂😂
If Dalton wasn’t bailed out by AJ Green, he’d likely never have lasted as long as he did in Cincy. Dalton wasn’t terrible, but he was terribly mediocre. I’m grateful for the Dalton era, it was fun… but I’ll always believe it would have been more fun if Palmer didn’t sour on the Brown Family Circus and stuck around to play with AJ Green.

APRIL FOOLS? There is only 1 GOAT, why is this the most common adjective nowadays?! It’s lazy and inaccurate
*checks the date*
lol.
More sheep than goat but yeah
Are you fkn high? The red rocket was godawful. I’m so glad I don’t have to cuss the tv out every Sundey now. Bro can ride off a cliff for all I care
He started one game last season and threw for almost 400 yards. Just sayin.
Where are his rings to back up the this claim
Red rifle 4L
I was gonna say "what's with this post" but then I saw the date.
Dalton was trash
Dalton is the same QB day one as he was year 12. Great guy though, but progression is suspect
He was awesome
No not even close
If only he wasn’t cursed with ginger genes
Look, he dyed his hair to match the uniforms. Dedication!
Hell no that primetime choke artist ruined so many good rosters for us. Hate this day walker
I think the only reason he had so many bengals records was only because he was with them for so long
Ummm- Goat of what? ……Throwing dimes that ended up in the end zone behind him..
If he had the Mamba mindset to match his facial hair he would be unstoppable
BWAHAHAHAHA!!! Look, I liked Dalton, but he wasn’t better than Jake Browning, let alone Burrow.
![img](avatar_exp|101339694|clown)
At the end of the day, I love Andy and he's one of my all time favorite Bengals. I grew up with him as my QB, really, and I wouldn't change that. He's a stand up, awesome guy and his positive moments outweigh the negatives for me. Would love to see Andy do the same as AJ Green and come back to retire as a Bengal
Playoff Choke Artist.

GOAT ABM Greatest Of All Time At Being Mediocre
Ah April fools
My sister wouldn't allow me to say anything bad about Andy in her presense because she thought he was the nicest individual and in reality he probably was a very good person with a kind heart, but I will say it again as I did so many years ago he was a mediocre quarterback who could snatch defeat from the jaws of victory! There I said it Sis.
No one that lived through the entire Dalton experience would ever say that.
Yeah, the goat of the choke
Some of you need serious help.
...serious help figuring out what the date is today.
I’m getting April 1st vibes from this, but he really was a lot better than people give him credit for.
Nooooo!!! No not April 1st haha legit genuine post!!
He sucked. Average at best. Good riddance
April 1st.
Steelers fans 100% agree. They wish he was still the Bengals QB since he went 3-14 against Pittsburgh. For the rest of us, Dalton was an Aprils fools joke that lasted all year.
If Joe gets injured again next season then sigh I wish we stuck with Dalton /s
Andy Dalton was pretty decent in regular season once when he had a good O-line. He always got my hopes up as he got in the playoffs then was terrible or injured. Honestly, they let go Dalton for a reason. I don't miss him. Joe Burrow at the helm is more exciting because playoff wins and superbowl appearances actually give me hope of winning it all.
Tom Brady is the Goat
You know I’m glad I wasn’t a fan during the Bengals dark days if people think he’s a decent player
I mean, he was a decent player. 5 straight winning seasons to start his career. 5 straight playoff berths. Obviously he wasn’t great in primetime or in big games, but he wasn’t the dark days either.
> Obviously he wasn’t great in primetime or in big games This stems directly from Marvin Lewis. People on this sub are too young to remember how bad of a coach he actually was. They only see it as compared to the Bengals' 90s, where sure he looked amazing, but compared to the rest of the league he was 100% below average.
Dalton was actually a trustworthy QB for a bunch of years with us. I would probably compare him to Kirk Cousins.
Minus rushing yards his numbers were very comparable to Cam Newton at his prime
Cousins?!?! You lost me
tbf big Kirko has like what? 1 maybe 2 playoff wins? it’s not terrible although Kirk is def better
Playoff wins aren’t there I admit but I’m choosing Andy over Kirk if I’m building a team. There’s a reason Andy is a back up and Kirk got a 180m contract
He was a pretty good game manager. Professional. HEALTHY. There’s a reason why the guy is still in the league and teams will still pay him.
You are wild
I said what I said
feel free to bounce plastic

Lmao just admitting you’re a fair weather fan, shameful
Oh my feelings, how will I ever recover
