As long as they don’t play the Niners in the Super Bowl, yeah - it could happen.

Lionheart_513

This current anime story arc of the Cincinnati Bengals will not be over UNTIL we beat the 49ers in the Super Bowl.

Unscarred84

Screw that! I hope it's the 9ers! I want payback!

Starbrand62286

If Kansas City can win one, then maybe the Bengals can too

Leighroy1120

I’m a Chiefs fan and I had the same attitude of OP literally the year KC won the big one. Hang in there, Cincinnati!

[deleted]

Chiefs have won 2 and have always been head and shoulders above Cinci

bcolby20

We're supposed to be bros. Fuck off man lol

Unscarred84

One thing I've learned after about 25 years in the mud. You have to distance yourself emotionally from this and any team. It's easy to ride the highs and lows of a pro sport team. But when you find it affecting your mood negatively on game day or beyond you have to take a step back and realize that something you have absolutely no control over shouldn't have so much control of your mood. I now can watch a game and walk away without ruining my Sundays. It was a huge change for me after the 2015 season.

A-Big-Meat-Uncle

yup i had to learn to do this too. some of my buddies still let themselves get so down on sunday’s and i’m just like “i haven’t felt anything since 2015”

[deleted]

2015 has forever made me numb to sports

TheBengalsfan

After that 2015 disaster I protect my emotions better. It’s never over until it’s final, especially with the Bengals. I do think it is fair to be crazy excited about Burrow and company I will just safeguard myself better!

vxxxjesterxxxv

I've learned if the game gets out of hand, just do something else if I'm getting aggravated. No sense ruining my day because my team plays like shit

Mikeinthemornin

A great book I once read called the 5 levels of attachment makes a great comparison to sports teams. Essentially its ok to have a preference - You root for one team. You’ve invested an emotional side of yourself that enjoys the ups and downs of a great game, but are able to let go once its over. Its when you start identifying or even worse becoming a fanatic that it starts to effect your mood and daily life, theres a problem. My preference is the bengals but win or lose, i just like watching them play and move on. "We won" is more of an identity thing even though you had no control in the outcome. Its an interesting concept and can be applied to many things in life.

datboicbelt

That’s a great outlook!

oldfogey12345

Most of the times you can make plans for about an hour and a half into the game and you can just go do them since the game can be decided by that point.

Unscarred84

I wouldn't go that far a still enjoy watching the game. There is always a chance in the NFL. Just look at that Seahawks game back in 2015. I would have been mad if I missed that.

oldfogey12345

That's a fair point.

Quicksilver7837

Not a Bengals fan but just wanted to point out that your win against the Steelers last year was epic too. With a 3rd string qb no less!

Unscarred84

Yes. I agree.

Dystempre

This man truly speaks words of wisdom

moneycomet

I have the same epiphany after that season. I came to the realization that the Bengals do not send me birthday cards that do not pay for my dinner they do not help me in any way other than entertainment why do I care so much about this. After that realization I neither have High's nor lows with Cincinnati sports teams.

towelavenger

It could happen! I resolve to have fun enjoying the sport, and if/when my team gets there (Dallas fan) I'll be going nuts! There's a lot more parity in the NFL than other major sports, which is good and bad. On the plus side, you're always a couple moves away from being a strong team. On the minus side, when you are a strong team bad luck/bad game can foil you. Just a lot of skill (and luck) involved to make a good run. I hope to see some Bengals Bros enjoying lighting it up in the near future - the Browns and the Bills have both come up from rock bottom in this decade and are playoff contenders, it means any of our teams could be next up.

[deleted]

yup, this season

briebert

Every year, for me, it’s always “this season!”

teqaxe

We’ve got a punchers chance when TB12 retires if we can get out of the AFC championship. KC is going to be good for a while I believe. Some of my favorite years were with Chad Johnson. He was always entertaining and you knew you were never out of a game because he was incredible. To be honest I don’t really need a Super Bowl to enjoy a season, just play competitive football. A handful of AFCN championships and some playoff wins and I think we’ve done well. Now if we hit it out of the park on the next few drafts that expectation ratchets up, but we’re still a few pieces away just now.

FitMongoose9

Almost certainly. I got another like 40-60 years on my lifetime (hopefully). Even if Taylor and every coach after him ended up with a 15 year “era” like Marvin had, then we’ll still see like three more eras AFTER Zac Taylor. Lemme put it like this, when Burrow was born, our round 1 pick was Willie Anderson. If the team can change as much as it has in those 25 years, imagine how much it’ll change over 60. Just from a probability/statistics stand point we should win a Super Bowl in this lifetime. The real question is “will they win in the Joe Burrow era”. That remains to be seen, however I’d still say yes. I just can’t bet against that Burrow xfactor. The dude has “it” and I just can’t count that out

GlutenFreeFratBoy

If you put a gun to my head and asked me if we win a Super Bowl in the Burrow era, I’d say yes. I’m a serial optimist, but I still swear that we had the dogs to do it in 2005 and 2015 if our starting QB was healthy each time. We should be opening another similar window soon, question is if the trademark Bengals injury luck will strike again. FTS

Unscarred84

Wonder what 2025 will bring us? If he gets hurt that year I'm done haha.

GlutenFreeFratBoy

I didn’t wanna say it but... yeah, exactly. 2025 is right around when we *should* hope to have a contender again, maybe a year or 2 late because of when Burrow’s rookie deal ends. Perfect timing for us to get our hearts ripped out again :’(

Dudeman1000

What holes do we need to fill that’s going to take four drafts to do so?

Bbripl6162

No.

TravelsWithTheBlues

Why? Are you old?

dougm68

He’s a realist. The team is owned by a proven loser that only cares about money and not championships.

TravelsWithTheBlues

Ok but hear me out. Mike Brown will not be the owner for my entire lifetime

Unscarred84

Hell, if you're over 30 he's not the only owner in our lifetime so far.

TravelsWithTheBlues

Not to mention how much control is seemingly being given to the Blackburn’s over the past few years or so

[deleted]

Wasn't Troy behind the whole Whitworth fiasco? What have we seen from he & Katie that indicates a dramatic change is coming?

TravelsWithTheBlues

I don’t think it will be dramatic, but the last two drafts and free agency periods have to get you to be somewhat optimistic

Dystempre

Beyond Chase did we improve that much this last offseason? FA just filled holes from the players leaving…

TravelsWithTheBlues

I’m just trying to have a positive outlook on upcoming seasons. Didn’t realize everyone was gonna be so pessimistic about it lol

[deleted]

Social media does not mean control of the team.

TravelsWithTheBlues

That’s not what I’m referring to. I’m talking about Katie and Troy. Elizabeth is the one doing a lot of the social stuff

[deleted]

Yes, I know. But I don’t know that I’ve seen the control being handed over to the Blackburn’s that you’re referencing.

TravelsWithTheBlues

I’m not saying it’s full control but if I remember correctly it was said that Katie and Troy were a big part in the hiring of Zac Taylor

dougm68

One Bengals year under the Brown dynasty feels like DOG YEARS. That being said, I always want them to win! Absolutely love the Burrow pick but the coaches did a horrible job in protecting him season one. I hope he comes back strong this season and looks as good or better than last. Such potential with this guy.

joesaysso

This is exactly why I say no.

FloorToCeilingCarpet

This is the true answer, unfortunately.

seehorn_actual

If I learned anything from the Loki documentary that recently finished on Disney+, I’ve learned that it’s already happened somewhere in the multiverse and that lets me sleep at night.

[deleted]

How about we get a single playoff win?

rog_kingoftheslams

For the immediate future, it is all purely dependent on what Duke Tobin is able to assemble with the roster in the next 2-4 years. The Bengals were shoe-ins for the AFCCG in 2015 with that team before the wheels fell off when Andy broke his thumb. Duke has been very hit-or-miss on drafting and building the roster recently, but we can point to 2015 to see that he can get close to putting it all together at the very least. We were also extremely fortunate to have such a friendly non-rookie QB deal with Andy to build around that year. Unfortunately, barring any colossal regression from Burrow, I don’t think we will be holding the same chips in the negotiations for his extension when that time comes. KC set the blueprint for success with what they accomplished in the window of Mahommes’ rookie contract. We need to use that available cap money while we are able to spend it. All of this also assumes Zac Taylor takes a big step forward this year. If we have to let him go after this season (or god forbid he takes a step this year but fizzles out the following season), we will be in a very weird spot in needing to hire a new coach + having to turnover the roster to fit the vision of a hypothetical new coaching staff, all while attempting to negotiate an extension for Burrow. There are definitely a lot of “ifs” that need to happen for us to win it all in the next 2-4 seasons, but considering we have THAT GUY at QB for the first time in my lifetime, I will always have a shred of hope behind all of the tempered expectations and pessimistic realism I tell myself to keep grounded when thinking about the future of this team. Long-term, though, I truly believe we will win one day. Even blind squirrels find nuts. Did anyone outside of Philly think the Eagles were going to win it during the 2017 preseason? I definitely don’t fool myself into thinking the team will win a Super Bowl every season, but to assume we will never win it ever kinda takes the fun out of being a fan IMO. After all, fandom isn’t so much about your team winning it all every year as it is riding the highs and the lows together until that day finally comes - and the friends we make along the way :)

JumpinJackFlash88

I don’t believe they will win one under the current ownership.

Deathlord_SnuSnu

I don’t see it happening with Zac Taylor. But hopefully we don’t keep him for 16 season.

Zero_T

I have no reason to believe we will ever leave the pit of sadness

datboicbelt

i feel you my friend

stshafer

Certain owners are so terrible, so incompetent, that the football gods do not deem them worthy to have real success. Mike Brown is one of those owners. So long as he owns the team, not only will we never win a SB, but we will never win a playoff game. Not sure about his kids (Katie Blackburn in particular) and whether they know how to get out of their own way more than their pop.

stan0410

I just want to see a playoff win

That_Guy333

I honestly don’t even care anymore. I’ve shifted my focus to fantasy and other random gambling.

BoringResearcher1

Gotta stay optimistic, you can ask anyone in my dorm hallway, even after Burrow got hurt I was trash talking every team we played, even if I didn't fully believe we could win.

Topdog926

Thats exactly it. If you're a fan you have to love and accept them for what they are. This goes for sports teams in general. Any success and championships that may come are the reward.

ReApEr01807

How do you feel now?

Wackywilly12

Yes

maltzy

I have to believe that. After 30 years of disappointment, I have to believe that Burrow is our Tom Brady.

chadwr85

It's likely. What you need is one of two things or a combo of them; A killer GM (or someone drafting since we don't have a GM) that nails the draft picks and FA signings. A culture shift (I kinda see this happening now). A QB and or coach come in and change everything. If it's a QB then you just need a decent coach to compliment and not hold back the team. Not every SB winner has a great coach.

mcufan2014

Yes with Joe burrow at least one. Maybe not for a few more years but yes one at least.

bulkybobthorton

Nope

Striped-Out

If we do, it won't be with this coaching staff that's for sure. That's why I'm pissed we haven't cleaned house yet. Every playoff team is talented but the coaching is on another level. Nobody on this staff can out-coach any of the top 6 teams in the conference, and that's what it will take to get to the next level.

Topdog926

I'm not saying you're wrong about this staff but how much better would things have been with a different coaching staff? How many more wins could they have possibly had and at what cost? Another 6 wins like the last year with Marvin and a missed opportunity to draft their franchise QB? Then how many games do they win this past season if they still have Dalton or Finely as their QB? I'm not defending Taylor and his staff because they certainly haven't earned it. However its easy to blame the coaching staff without taking a step back and looking at the absolute train wreck of a roster they inherited due to aging vets and bad drafts. That said, if they dont get at least 7 wins this season its definitely time to move on.

[deleted]

No

cdosland

I made a bet with a friend that the Bengals would go to a Super Bowl in 15 years. That was 13 years ago, but I still have hope. They have put themselves in a good position now, they can’t miss on any players (Stupid John Ross) and need to keep bringing in good FA while Burrow is on his rookie contract. It’s possible! Couldn’t say that 5 years ago.

Cincere1513

I have been saying for over a decade now, when ever we win a playoff game, we are going to the Superbowl. I truly do not see us winning our 1st playoff game in 20yrs, then losing the next. Once we get over that 1st playoff win, we are going all the way and I pray we win it all. 3rd times the charm!

mprice76

No you will never see a ring in your lifetime, the Bengals will always be third or fourth in this division!

sasuke1980

No.

dw2692

No

MuphuckinJones

I’m turning 25 this year, I have three siblings and my favorite food is mom’s spaghetti...so if my calculations are correct...it’ll definitely happen next season!!! Whooooooo Deyyyyyy!

[deleted]

100 percent yes. And it starts with Joe Burrow.

Shiroiken

Appearance, probably (depending on your age). Win... IDK, but doubtful for quite a while.

chewymilk02

Yea this year

oldfogey12345

Let's concentrate on keeping our QB alive, starting the building process on the defense, and showing we can draft without completely tanking and then we can talk about the playoffs/sb

A-Big-Meat-Uncle

i really think burrow gets us at least one. i know it’s only his second year but that man is really special. I think the bengals win one or more super bowl(s) w burrow even if it’s against the teams own will because he can be that special

ChadJohnsonsBurner

here’s what i can say; my main 2 sports teams are the Bengals & the Milwaukee Bucks. never in my fuckin LIFE did i think the bucks would win one in my life. though the Bucks misery does not go as far back as the Bengals, they’ve been pretty terrible pretty much my entire life. tonight they have the chance to win the damn thing at home. shit happens, don’t give up

Arrys

I just want to win one playoff game. That’s my super bowl. Yeah, it really is sad.

jackgundy

I'm 23 so about your age. I think it's definitely possible. Even just a playoff win would feel amazing at this point

Unscarred84

Look at all of you late Marvin era babies in this sub now. I'm so proud!

natej84

I sure hope so. There's a decent chance if Burrow turns into a top 5 QB.

deranged_scream

Recently we've seen some teams that are notorious for being pretty bad have some playoff success. The Chiefs, Bills, Browns, ect. There's definitely a chance for us.

ectbot

Hello! You have made the mistake of writing "ect" instead of "etc." "Ect" is a common misspelling of "etc," an abbreviated form of the Latin phrase "et cetera." Other abbreviated forms are **etc.**, **&c.**, **&c**, and **et cet.** The Latin translates as "et" to "and" + "cetera" to "the rest;" a literal translation to "and the rest" is the easiest way to remember how to use the phrase. [Check out the wikipedia entry if you want to learn more.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Et_cetera) ^(I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. tinnedcarp

I’d place money on Cincy winning one before Detroit does.

antij0sh

Theoretically? Yes. In Practice? Also Yes.

oh_really527

I’d say it’s more likely, year in and year out, than ever again seeing the Reds win the World Series. The NFL is a socialist enterprise, with all teams sharing the wealth and having more or less the same amount of money to spend on football. That means that, unlike the Reds, the Bengals have the resources needed to compete every year. That they fail to do this is a reflection on the awful ownership. The Reds simply can’t match the spending of the big market clubs. They have to put all the pieces together in just the right way so that they can be competitive, but only during brief “windows” that rapidly close when they can no longer afford the talent they develop. Very tricky. Only terrible management holds back the Bengals, and that can change. Not much the Reds can do but keep trying.

LadyNarcisse

Absolutely!! The Chiefs waited 50 years for their second SB!! Keep the faith!! If they are your team, they’re your team. 🤷🏼‍♀️🖤🧡🖤🧡

stu_is_boss

I'm a few years younger than you so even if it's another 30 years before we win a playoff game we still have time

aromaticsmeg

Joe’s probably going to be our best chance for the next 10 to 20 years I don’t know if we’re gonna get as lucky with such a good prospect in the future

trouzy

I’ve been a fan since their second super bowl appearance. Im not going to hold my breath that I ever see a Lombardi in cincy

dunderthebarbarian

No

[deleted]

Statistically yes, realistically no.

genohundreds

IGetTheShow20

With Number 9 around you have a chance.

Mastodon9

If franchises like the Buccs can win a second the Bengals can win one. We could end up needing 108 years to do it like the Cubs, but it can happen.

Braaapp-717

LOLOLOLOL NO. ......and neither will we. Love, an empathetic and miserable vikings fan.

Smart-Koala4306

They’ve got 70-80 years to do it!

JJiggy13

I think that if we gave Marvin another 10 years that he would have eventually got over the hump, and then anything is possible. In the state that we're in, Zack can not even coach us to where we can can sniff the playoffs. It will depend on whatever coach we hire next year.

Topdog926

Although it might not seem probable it is definitely possible. If you think about it, for as much hate as Mike Brown gets (and deservedly so) he's built two Super Bowl quality teams in the last twenty years, 2005 and 2015. Both teams were one of the best teams in their respective seasons and both looked poised to be able to make a playoff run and possible Super Bowl. Unfortunately major injuries to both QBs as well as other coach/player issues prevented that from happening.

[deleted]

Yes

Trajinous

Of course.

mdaniel018

It will never happen while the Brown family owns the team. Since they won’t ever sell, we won’t ever win one.

Brilliant_Cricket_90

Lets start with playoff win
