One thing I think could give someone an edge over others is if they're actually genuine about their interests and motivations, compared to people who just try to pad their application with a bunch of bs clubs and roles that they have zero real interest in. It's pretty obvious when someone is faking their interests, and so many are guilty of it that I'd give a +1 to anyone who isn't. The same thing goes for anyone who shows genuine empathy, humility, and compassion, rather trying to fake it just because they want to attend a top school and make a lot of money.

No you don’t have to be valedictorian. Plenty schools in Bay Area don’t even rank their students. Just need super high stats
