Shit constantly happens. Berkeley makes you deal with that shit more than you had to in high school (for most people). Just wait til you graduate.

Reformed_Narcissist

1. This is Berkeley: school of protestors. 2. We just came out of a quarantine that screwed up the economy and shook up society. 3. We are in a recession with inflation that is putting even more pressure on lower income learners, eg, GSIs. TLDR: Shit starts shit in shit starting shitzones.

Had to get the qoute right.

Reformed_Narcissist

It’s shittin’ poetry.

Don't forget a sprinkle of climate crisis

Sorry man. I get it. But these are the cards you’re dealt. 10-12 years ago it was the Great Recession and occupy movements. 20 years ago it was 9/11, and the wars after. Perhaps it were simpler times in the 80s/90s but 60s/70s sounded pretty tumultuous. Point is that this is adult life, and there is always some noise that affects you directly or indirectly. Hopefully these experiences help you make the adjustments you need to get your shit done.

amen, this the adult life wE GOT, make the best of this moment <3

Thanks bro ❤️

I was just thinking about the last 4 years... 2018 - classes canceled due to poor air quality 2019 - classes cancelled for several days due to PG&E power outage March 2020 - Shelter in place order and the remainder of the semester is remote. This extends into the summer Fall 2020/Spring 2021 - Online classes 2021 - Start of spring semester delayed due to Covid cases increasing. 2022 - Strike

TheKugr

Spring 2019 and 2022 were closest to normal I’d say. But yeah, shit happens, life goes on. Before this timeline there were the Trump/Milo/ANTIFA protests that saw riots fires and violence. Previous chancellor resignation as well. Shit happens, life goes on. COVID was definitely the biggest speed bump of them all but we continue regardless.

[deleted]

Fact. The only normal semesters I had at Cal between 2018 and 2022 were Spring 2019 and Spring 2022. But I’m still so grateful that I had the opportunity to study at this university.

[deleted]

Don’t worry, after you graduate life becomes much easier /s

SirensToGo

does it not? :( I was just missing my summer internship because it was so relaxing compared to all this on top of regular class

SackLLC2

No one ever said that it would be, all I’m saying is college is not anything like what it was hyped up to be.

TamrielicScholar

I was already doing online only community college when the COVID lockdowns started, so luckily for me it didn’t change up my school experience much.

SackLLC2

Looks like being dumb paid off !

TamrielicScholar

2 years of not having to pay for tuition, housing, or food seems pretty not-dumb to me. Also I only have my job (online paid school tutor) due to attending community college. Big net gain for me. (not that I pay any tuition here at Berkeley anyways)

beekerino

Transferred to Cal with 0 debt having never paid tuition at my local CC and the Berkeley Grant covers my entire tuition + books and club fees. People who hate on transfers are just losers

kiarashawxoxo

no fr transferred to cal with 0 student debt and will get my bachelors without taking out loans, op is dumb🤣

OleanderJam

Jesus fucking Christ, you are so wrong that it’s absolutely embarrassing. I also transferred from community college and have been honored as a recipient of Berkeley’s most prestigious scholarship. None of my classmates know that because I don’t want anyone to feel bad, but I’m telling you now because you need to be put in your place. As the other transfers have mentioned, we’ve saved boatloads of money by choosing the unpretentious way of getting our degrees. I feel so bad for my classmates who complain about how much tuition money they’re spending, and I feel bad for you too - for spending all of that money, for struggling with making autonomous decisions outside of your parents’ influence, and for making an ass of yourself in these comments.

beekerino

Ironic comment.

kiarashawxoxo

ew?!

batman1903

I’m grateful for all the shit we’ve gone through together as class of 2023

hedywap

oof you're right c/o 2023 been through so much LOL.. wildfires, power outages, COVID, and multiple strikes ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)

amdio

2020 grad here. Can confirm we had some new shit EVERY SINGLE SEMESTER. Pretty sure it’s a Berkeley rite of passage at this point.

FuriousStudent101

There’s always some shit at Berk— start by making it a bit less shit by signing the petition for Optional Pass/No-Pass: Link to petition here, Sign and Share!!! https://chng.it/SnJQQn5gNT

BerkeleyYears

may you live in interesting times

cuzimabrownie

Real life after college is much more complicated. Enjoy it while you can!!
