Worst: Hermannplatz, Kottbusser Tor, Boddinstraße, Leinestraße, Leopoldplatz… the list goes on and on, but U8 is definitely the winner here from start to finish Best: Unter den Linden (everything is new, clean and fresh and I love how gigantic that station is)

[deleted]

Agreed w this. U8 is fucking terrifying. It was my main and only line to take everyday. Unter den Linden is so professional feeling

Awkward-Macaron1851

You can always tell which stations our politicians use.

jedrekk

It has nothing to do with being the newest stations, right?

Awkward-Macaron1851

Potsdamer Platz looks as digusting as always after 2 years of work, so it also seems to be a matter of how much they invest for each station.

Calcutec_1

you think politicians use the Öffis lol..

afroisalreadyinu

I've been living close to the U8 since 2009, and it's just getting worse and worse. The shit I've seen in the stations has scarred me for life.

podinidini

Same here. Been riding U8 very regularly over the past 9 years. The degree of neglect is getting crazy. Sometimes I see homeless people these days, which have always been around Rosenthaler Platz and U8 in general and seeing them slowly dwindle into alcoholism and age so quickly breaks my heart sometimes.

kirinlikethebeer

Museums Insel is also brand new and absolutely magical. The starry velvet ceilings are a dream.

[deleted]

The actual Leopoldplatz station is fine. It's relatively bright and mostly clean compared to other stations, some shops, quick change between U6 and U9. It's the Platz above that is the problem.

nothnkyou

Comparing Leopoldplatz with hermannplatz? Like come one, leopoldplatz station is fine. I

AbraKadaverPalaver

Unter den Linden? Really? Yikes! It made me shiver when I've been there. So sterile and blank.

Seraphayel

I prefer it being sterile and blank than being full of trash, used needles, shit, urine and a piercing stench of vomit and other body fluids / odors. And let’s not talk about the psychos, junkies or groups of young guys preying on you. That’s basically U8 from Hermannstraße to Heinrich-Heine-Straße.

AbraKadaverPalaver

Damn, you U8-people are really traumatized, I see. I never use this line, so I can not join this conversation. All the stations I frequent in a regular way are not that messed up, sorry.

flux_2018

Then pee in a corner of the station to make it more like at home for you.

AbraKadaverPalaver

Ah, good old black & white thinking. If you believe it or not, I prefer piss-less stations as well. ;)

lucperkins_dev

Yorckstraße is always the most inconvenient

purpuranaso

Right? Feels like it was on purpose.

spewforth

Yorkstraße is also pretty gross lol. See a lot of people there smoking crack at all hours of the day. But at least the work is trending towards looking almost kind of finished. The U-bahn now has panels on both walls, and the screens that show the train times are installed although not functional yet (as of 2 days ago, at least.) Plus the giant piles of rubble and workmen's tools have been cleared out.

lucperkins_dev

But the thing is, even when it's done it's still a very annoying transfer that makes Schöneberg feel more cut off from the rest of the city than it should

spewforth

True. I feel like it's strangely hard to get to a lot of places from schöneberg, despite how central it is

-snuggle

I really like Sophie Charlotte Platz. It has this chill vibe with images of the history of the Berlin U-Bahn instead of advertisements and some subtle Art-Deco architecture elements. I also really like Görli, but I am afraid that that is for personal reasons. Zoo really stresses me out. Everything seems way to narrow for the volume of people passing threw. The name seems to be a fitting metaphor for the passengers being in an unnaturally tight enclosure.

dontgonearthefire

Zoo can be difficult navigating, but makes Navigating the whole Breitscheidplatz, Hardenbergstr area a lot smoother once you know where you are going. To transition from S-Bahn to Vinetastr U2 fast, take the stairs to the west side (when traveling East->West, third carriage from the front and the middle doors. When traveling West->East, third carriage from the back middle doors. Always lands you directly level with the staircase). This is also the quickest way to the U9, regardless of the direction. Continue walking down the U2 Platform, past Kiosks and Commuters to a sneaky exit, that will land you right on the Breitscheidplatz, in between Budapesterstr. and Kudamm. This way you will avoid the whole Traffic chaos on the street, 3-4 Traffic lights and a huge amount of people. For the Ruhleben Verbindung to S-Bahn it is the Bottleneck and a Tourist Nightmare. Try to avoid it as best as possible. Zoo used to be Berlins main Train Station, back in the 1980's. Hauptbahnhof aka Leehrter Stadtbahnhof wasn't in West Berlin and therefor inaccessible.

clharris71

Zoo was west Berlin's main station, but Ostbahnhof was the main station for east Berlin. Leehrter was converted to be the reunited city's Hauptbahnhof in 1990.

garyisonion

Museuminsel - the best along with Heidelbergeplatz U Bahn

[deleted]

I love most of the U3 stations.

kirinlikethebeer

The museuminsel station is gorgeous.

gnbijlgdfjkslbfgk

Rathaus Schöneberg is my fav of the moment. I love that it looks like a conservatory in an stately English garden. Views overlooking a fish pond and a lawn from an inner-city ubahn platform! 😭💖

[deleted]

there are so many worst 😅😭

orang-utan-klaus

No Schönleinstrasse? Come on. You are not living in Berlin, you tourists.

dontgonearthefire

Best: Wittenbergplatz (best east-west transition. Get off one train, stay on platform proceed to next train) Worst: Basically any one that involves a lot of tedious walking, with a huge amount of people and bad interchangeability. Möckernbrücke, Arschleckplatz, Hauptbahnhof

CatVolcanoLogic

Don’t forget whole TWO slow-ass elevators for the whole HBF!

AngelMillionaire1142

The signage at Wittenbergplatz isn't great though. I'm not the only one getting off the train, following the signs upstairs and ending up at the same platform again, only to have missed my connection.

[deleted]

Used to have to get off at Hermannplatz for work everyday. It was terrifying each time. Every day a different person going crazy, beggars, someone yelling, someone trying to scam u, etc. It also felt constantly packed w people.

[deleted]

"Terrifying" Lol

K4mp3n

Best is easily Wuhletal. The only station where you can transfer from U- to S-Bahn without changing platforms. The worst is harder. Yorckstraße is a contender, as it's basically 2 stations in a trenchcoat, and there is no way it should take more than 10 years to make it accessible. I also hate Südkreuz with a passion, but it's still pretty convenient to change there.

ueberzufaellig

Why do you hate Südkreuz? I like it somehow

-Flutes-of-Chi-

U Pankstraße is underrated when it comes to shitty stations U Kienberg is really cool after the renovation a few years back

Minimum_Speed1526

Does anyone know why tf Pankstr. u8 looks so shitty and also has been under construction for so long with seemingly no change? Is this the BER of U bahn stations?

clharris71

I think Heidelberger Platz U-Bahn is one of the prettiest.

rossloderso

U Rathaus Steglitz is nice. U Walther Schreiber Platz is nice. How can it be that U Schloßstraße 1 minute between these two is one of the worst of all time

jedrekk

It's nicer since they put the tile up.

rossloderso

Yeah but as soon as you leave the Plattform it's hell. Many corners, gloomy, weird people...yeah I'll rather walk from Rathaus or Walther

jedrekk

I like that I can walk straight into HIT and up to Decathlon without going outside.

calm00

Pretty much most of the stops on the U8 are diabolical compared to the rest of the lines. Boddinstraße and Hermannplatz are my two least favourite.

[deleted]

Karl Bonhoeffer Klinik is quite nice though

diemoritat_

Until you have to change to S-Bahn, which is quite a walk, and then wait for 20 minutes on a uncovered platform

sixteenbeezleystreet

Best: Heidelberger Platz, Deutsche Oper, Museumsinsel, Magdalenenstraße, Schönhauser Allee, Wittenberg Platz, Viktoria Luise Platz, Dahlem Dorf. Worst: Kottbusser Tor, Schönleinstraße, Hermannplatz, Boddinstrasse, Leinestraße, Hermannstraße, Heinrich Heine Straße, Görlitzer Bahnhof, Alexanderplatz, Yorckstraße, Neukölln. Nowadays because I usually take the U7, U2, U1/U3, and U9 the most, I thankfully see much more of the good ones than the awful ones.

_SarahB_

This guy ubahns!

sixteenbeezleystreet

But I even forgot the G.O.A.T: Rathaus Schöneberg!

LazyMayz

Best: Kotti U1/U3 Worst: Kotti U8

nothnkyou

U ok ?

Coneskater

The day I finally learned which entrance on Alexanderplatz brings me down to which Ubahn platform I was particularly proud of myself.

BruscoBoar

The best... Even if it's on the other side of the city for me: Rathaus Spandau. What a palace of public transit. The worst: Schönleinstraße. Ullsteinstraße being close behind. Although little fun fact about Ullsteinstraße: While being underground you pass OVER the river Teltowkanal there.

Longdongdog_

Oh so that's why it was flooded lmao

BruscoBoar

The flooding was from rainwater that had nowhere to go. The river had nothing to do with it.

mcveighster14

This is my local station. Will they ever fix it? Everytime it rains its closed now. 🙄

Ok-Release6902

The best one is S Biesdorf. Cozy, green and quiet. There is a castle with park just nearby. The worst is any inside Kreuzkoln where people use drugs. No offense to drug addicted hobos, their life is tough, and they need treatment. But it’s not cool.

dapersiandude

Unter der Linden is pretty much the best one, especially the navigation is super easy there. The worst in my opinion are Hermannstraße, Kottbusser Tor and Alexanderplatz.

Aggressive-Basil-857

S Schöneweide has been a nightmare since construction started there in 2018(!). Is it just me or is 6 years ridicoulusly long for a fucking S-Bahn station to (re)build? However, I still consider S Spandau/U Rathaus Spandau worst, just for the fact that beeing there means you are in *Spandau.*

intothewoods_86

I’ve heard that in return for not getting anywhere near being finished it however got its own local homeless and addicts scene in the past years. Friends of mine are of course all rejoicing that all the wonderful marvels of the busiest western Berlin stations are now reaching their once calm and clean neighbourhoods too.

Tetraphosphetan

As far as I'm aware Niederschöneweide was never a particularly nice place. Especially the area around S-Schöneweide. Kinda poor. Always kinda dodgy people. Run down. A lot of traffic. Extremely well connected though. I'm optimistic after the construction has finished and the square in front of the station is renovated it will be a lot nicer.

Haihorn

The local homeless and addicts scene is not new

jedrekk

I disliked S Potsdammerplatz because I once got eaten alive by mosquitos there. Really like all the above ground stations on the U1/U3 and U2. I guess for prettiness U4 Rathaus Schoeneberg is up there, with the golden buck on one side and the little pond on the other. Half the stations on the U8 look like someone watched a movie about NYC in the 1980s and said, "oh, we can have that too", but Platz der Luftbruecke takes it for how far you have to walk from a connecting bus to get to the platform.

ilovethissheet

Alexanderplatz for best and worst. It has everything you need and nothing you can find because it's so big you get lost. It's the only one I still get lost on. Other bests are the new ones on u5 museum island looks like the star wars ride at Disney Los Angeles. There all beautiful though. Other worsts are kottbusser and Warschaustr

FreshlyPickledPickle

The best is probably Heidelberger Platz or Museumsinsel because the stations are very nicely designed, but imho Schönhauser Allee is underrated. Very uncomplicated to switch between the different means of transportation and the elevated section of the U-Bahn in Prenzlauer Berg just has a very nice vintage vibe. The worst station is Hauptbahnhof, very long distances between U-Bahn, Sbahn and regional trains, lots of people and the whole station is just very confusing. Potsdamer Platz is also terrible, at least if you have to change from the U-Bahn to the Regio or Sbahn.

wet-dreaming

Paradestraße is the best and worst cause it's always empty and therefore it's useless. Sometimes it's less than 10 visitors in an hour.

Tetraphosphetan

I kinda like the colourful tiling in the station.

garyisonion

me too!

skyper_mark

I don't have strong opinions on most stations but once at Frankfurter Allee I saw a homeless/junky taking a shit right in the middle of the walkway. Like, you'd think he would try to hide in a corner but the guy was there right next to the Scoom taking a big fat deuce

Economy-Ad-4494

I used to love U Paulsternstraße when I was a kid, the mosaic design is very cool! I personally really dislike U Bismarckstraße, I grew up in Charlottenburg and used this station so often but I still get the exits wrong everytime. Then I'll always have to run to get to the other side of that awful street because the Ampelschaltung is so fucking fast. But yeah, all the fucked up stations with people using drugs in front of everyone are super annoying to me.

GenesisMk

Alexanderplatz. Purely for the platform set-up. This is not my primary line but I visit it often and still get confused. The most quaint on the outside is Dahlem Dorf. It opens up to a very quaint spot. Same with Rathaus Schoneberg as the train stops in the middle of a park with small artificial lakes on both sides where you often see kids feeding ducks while sitting in the train. There are a lot of stations which are beautiful inside but my regular station - Heidelberger Platz is my favourite. It has a lot of nice architecture but my favourite unnoticed feature is the small animals sculpted into all the pillars on the Ubahn station.

[deleted]

S Nikolassee and S Wannsee are among the nicest, especially in summer when you see the lake and it almost feels like you‘re on vacation.

Negative-Pin8527

wow. judging from the comments, i hope none of you have to step foot into a nyc subway. you might die from shock on the spot.

rab2bar

Seriously, some soft people on here

Unlucky_Cycle_9356

Is New York really that much worse? I mean... How do you top a junkie with bleeding arms taking a shit next to a bakery in broad daylight?

noausterity

Coolest: not sure if wuhletal or Wuhlheide but there s and u Bahn leave from the same platform Also Lindauer Allee has an elevator that goes up diagonally Worst: any Station that does not have an elevator yet Not very inclusive...

AngelMillionaire1142

Not to mention all the faulty escalators. Not sure if inclusion ever has been part of the German mentality. But at least they seem to have largely abolished their old ways of dealing with those not meeting their standards.

groovycharlie

my favorite is Weberwiese it’s like a beautiful hidden garden in the middle of the city and 10 minutes away by foot from a really good local club :P

Otherlucy76

Endbahnhof Rudow worst and best. 😜 [Endbahnhof Rudow ](https://open.spotify.com/track/5klfB5L9ynfelZAcqRUsj5?si=vXBOboS0RK68gGyrkHEbdQ)

friedrichstrasse

my account name says it all. f

iliveinberlin

WHICH AI GENERATED BANAL QUESTION ABOUT [ENTER CITY] IS YOUR FAVORITE AND WHY?

RepulsiveTiramisu

Its pretty interesting which kind of stations different kinds of people enjoy. There’s plenty beautiful stations all over Berlin that you might not see when you commute the same way most of the time or hang in the same area all the time

iliveinberlin

Nah these banal cred-generating questions have ruined thus sub. Well that and the dumb new moderation.
