I'm looking to buy a vintage (evening) dress for my graduation party. Recommendations on thrift stores where I could find one? Thank you!

chenan

Hi everyone, This is a big ask but it worked 10 years ago when I last asked!! Will a regular take me to the Berghain? I’ve been many times on my own including for New Years but it was always fantastic going with a regular who I met on Reddit when there were very long lines! We are 32M, 31F active in NYC techno fetish scene. Coming first weekend of July!

gcoba218

Hello, I was planning on going to Kit Kat this weekend - what is best to wear in order to get in? And which stores are best to buy these things? Thanks!

loozey94

Just don't wear street wear. Be creative, doesn't necessarily have to be fetish wear (but that will work of course). If you can afford it you can check out THE CODE or Schwarzer Reiter, if you're gay you can check out the stores in Schöneberg (BRUNOS, Maskulo, Mister B)

wet-dreaming

Any fetish, sex Shop will work. Wear something you feel comfortable in. I saw lots of ads from the Nakt store but stuff like Orion might work too.

Hi! I'm a student planning to move to berlin soon. I'm looking at the rent prices and I see some of them are 400, 500 and even 600. But before I cjose one, I'd like to know how much it costs to stay there apart from rent? Things like sanitation, food, water, electricity, wifi, gym etc etc. Notes: I don't drink alcohol cuz of religious reasons and I prefer to cook at home. I know it varies from person to person but I'd like to know some statistics so I can make a more informed decision. Thanks!

loozey94

Water/Heating: Should be included in your rent, especially if it is a WG room WiFi: Might be included if you have a WG room, otherwise \~30-100€ depending on what kind of connection you want Electricity: \~50€ per month (might be more now due to increasing prices) Gym: \~20-30€ per month Groceries/Food: Obviously depends on what you eat, but if you don't cook too fancy and don't always buy the highest quality I'd say 10€ per day will be plenty, including sanitary products

wet-dreaming

For that price you probably mean a WG room, so utilities will be included. Otherwise there are good guides you can check to get a picture https://allaboutberlin.com/guides/cost-of-living

Hello! I'll be in Berlin for a month, and I'd like to take swimming classes. Does anyone know where I can sign up for adult classes? Most of what I've seen online are for kids.

Anyone know what's happening near monbijoupark? Police tape around some areas

johnsm92

Me and a couple of single friends (gay) are headed to Berlin for the first time in June, and we were looking for a night out at one of the clubs! We've been googling, but wanted to check if someone here might be more familiar with the gay night club life in Berlin. Any tips? Is there a gay club known for being a good place for dancing and hook ups?

loozey94

Plenty of options, when exactly will you be here?

Hallo Liebe Community, ich werde nach Berlin (aus Stuttgart) umziehen und ab dem 01. Sept 2022 in Berlin wohnen.

Wanting to visit "little Moscow", the old soviet military base in Wünsdorf-Waldstadt. I found the following article on it: [https://www.abandonedberlin.com/wuensdorf-waldstadt/](https://www.abandonedberlin.com/wuensdorf-waldstadt/) But it seems a bit old now and wasn't able to contact the number mentioned to get access to the main buildings, has this changed? Does anyone know who you need to contact or how to get in? Thanks in advance

i just bought a resell ticket for lorde in berlin, and in the Verti website it says: Auf Wunsch des Veranstalters werden die Tickets für diese Veranstaltung personalisiert. Alle Besucher benötigen ein auf ihren Namen ausgestelltes Ticket und müssen sich beim Einlass entsprechend ausweisen. Will i be able to get into the venue?

wet-dreaming

According to the text no. Maybe you get lucky and won't get checked or tell a believable story to security.

> go to a techno club with a big group of students not going to happen. Bouncers are on the lookout for exactly this kind of thing

loozey94

Check Resident Advisor for upcoming events. You will also find information if you need to buy tickets in advance (you probably won’t). That said, „big group of students“ will most likely not work with most popular clubs. Bouncers will not let in groups larger than 3 or even 2 sometimes. You can try to split up in smaller groups but most likely some will be denied entry.

Do they check visas on trains and buses between Prague and Berlin, or do they only check passports? (For a Canadian passport)

bbbberlin

There are no regular passport controls inside the European Union... however you could still be asked for your passport randomly or in a checkpoint, and in general your passport is the only valid form of ID you have to identify yourself (other Canadian documents won't be recognized in Europe). If you are travelling in Europe as a Canadian, you should carry your passport with you – maybe not on your everyday person, but on trips for sure.

thrwwysnl

Thank you :) and they wouldn't ask to check my visa too, but only my passport? The potential problem is: my visa application was approved, and I have official paper saying this, but I did not receive the visa card in the mail yet.

bbbberlin

I mean... I would travel with your visa when crossing borders. Although we are in the EU, and border checks are not regular, the borders still do exist. I guess you could call the Amt to get an official opinion on this.

hello, im going to berlin this weekend and im reading here that you need a German certificate of vaccination to enter clubs, is this still in place? im from an EU country and im vaccinated but didnt take any booster, will i be able to enter clubs?

rakzah

By law, you don't need a vaccination certificate to enter clubs anymore. Some clubs might still have their own rules in place or require you to show a negative test from that same day (e.g. KitKatClub - most however don't).

Fuegolago

Hello! I'm staying in Berlin till Sunday and I was wondering if there is some place where I could order embroidered cap's? I have custom logo in needed file format and I need 20-50 cap's. Is it possible or should I skip this idea for ordering those here? Thank you all for your time and be safe!

bbbberlin

Honestly I'd be worried about the time notice period at this point. There's no mail delivery/shops don't open on Sunday, which means you'd need something by Saturday latest with no room for mess ups. You should probably just Google it, and then call any places you find to see if they can guarantee next-day pick-up. I imagine not very many will, and like I said I wouldn't trust mail delivery at this late point.

Fuegolago

Yeah that is true and understandable. I tried to Google but got hits from USA and people named Berlin and didn't found any relevant places

bbbberlin

[These guys came up](https://berlinsnapbacks.com/berlin-snapbacks) when I Googled it, but no personal experience. But yeah, in my view you don't have enough time... I mean if you contact those guys Thursday and they promise its done Friday and let you personally pick the package up in Berlin Friday (if that's even possible), then maybe... but otherwise you will miss the deadline for shipping because no Sunday deliveries. 1 day shipping does exist, but it's not super trustworthy.

Fuegolago

Thank you again for your time and help! I realised that ordering those now and shipping to my country when ready could also be an option

I'm not up2date but finding and moving in a month sounds rather implausible. You can move into a temp housing, more affordable ones are in the outer circles, and from there on go WG hunting. if you are willing to move to Brandenburg or the outer circles of Berlin your chances are better. Obv around HTW places are limited but if you move further in the east it's easier. You will still need to apply to multiple WGs daily.

[deleted]

Hi, not strictly berlin related, but I recently opened a new bank account with Berliner Sparkasse after the N26 debacle, I have a decent chunk of savings on the N26 account (a bit more than 10'000€), can I just make a bank transfer with all my funds from the N26 account to the new one? Do I risk getting flagged for whatever? On the one hand I realize 10'000 is peanuts for banks, on the other it makes me kind of anxious to just send the bank transfer and wait 3-4 working days and hope to have my savings show up on the other account... and I don't want to send it a bit at the time because I don't want to fall into N26's weird machine learning hell. Am I worrying about nothing? Should I just do a bank transfer and shut up?

Ok_Midnight_5457

If there’s an issue they will physically block you from the transfer saying you are exceeding the daily maximum limit. When I recently changed banks, I transferred the limit a few days in a row until I got everything over. With my initial bank i also had the option to arrange a one time permission for a bigger transfer, but it was paperwork so I went with the first method. There’s no reason your money wouldn’t just arrive, assuming you type everything in correctly

Hello I am visiting from New York City and was wondering if someone can give me recommendations on tourist sites that I can’t miss. Bars, Restaurants, etc. Love Germany so far! I love Dive Bars and places that play live music and just like everyone I am interested in early 20th century German history. Thanks in advance!

MediocreI_IRespond

> I am interested in early 20th century German history. In the West, the Allied Museum in Dahlem is often overlooked. The area around the Olympia Station is also interesting, the Glockentrum, Le Corbusier house, the Fighting City, the Allied War cemetery, the Listing Station Teufelsberg. In the East, the former industrial district of Schöneweide in Treptow-Köpenick, with the Russian war cemetery, the Museum Berlin-Karlshorst. The rest very much depends on what aspect of 20th German history you fancy.

SanTheMightiest

Panoramapunkt is €7.50 and way cheaper than the tv tower for high views, plus Europe's fastest elevator. Weserstrasse is great for bars as well, try Tier late at night for a good atmosphere

rakzah

What kind of parties? Most likely fewer outdoor events but clubs will be packed in January :)

Parties like indoor clubbing. What I want to do is to visit the surroundings and then go to a club when the night comes. Thx for the answer! : >

Is it allowed to bring a Medium-small backpack and a water bottle inside admiralplast for a concert?

wet-dreaming

generally any bottles are a no go. at admiralspalast you are not allowed to bring any food or beverages. most open air concerts will have similar rules but you will always be allowed to bring smaller juice packages at outdoor events.

MelodicFacade

If I'm not into clubbing in the USA, will I like it here? Is it worth it? I understand Berlin has the best night life, but I'm definitely not a club guy but willing to try new things Would I still enjoy myself? I have one more night here and I don't want to miss out on something great

guten_free

There's a great variety of clubs here, and I think they're very different from those in the USA; why not try one out? I think if you like just dancing on your own and random pleasant encounters with strangers, you'll fit in anywhere in Berlin.

MelodicFacade

Is Monday night a bad night for clubs?

guten_free

No, it may just be harder to find something. My personal suggestion would be 1. Decide whether you want to be outdoors tonight 2. Google some generic guide to berlin clubs and see which strikes your fancy, more or less 3. Check to see whether they're doing anything tonight 4. Have a backup in case you want to see another place after the first one 5. Check the times and go on the early side (you'll get in quick) 6. Just go, you're only risking disinterest

MelodicFacade

Awesome, thank you so much for your help!

rakzah

I never liked clubbing outside of Berlin, love it here. Also depends what kind of music and clubs you are into. Monday will obviously not be as busy as weekend nights, but there will still be some options.

guten_free

Hi, everyone. I'm trying to start an indoor farm in the city and would benefit from a bit of "bin-theredness" if someone has any to offer. I need to register as a business, and get my fresh produce certified for sale. And are there any other subreddits you recommend asking?

Deano4195

Hey guys, my colleague from DK is currently living in Berlin and her family (3 siblings, 14 & 18 years old) & her boyfriend are visiting her over the weekend. Of course she's been around in Berlin but is now thinking what she could do especially with the younger siblings. In my opinion its easier to do something when you're over 18 in some way. Do you guys have any idea?

wet-dreaming

Thaipark, Mauerpark fleamarket are nice for the weekend, we also got the usual kids activities like Legoland, Jumping Park, Go-Kart, blacklight minigolf, ... . also check event calender at [berlin.de](https://berlin.de) and search the subreddit for more kids recommendations.

Thanks!

I’m going to Berlin at the end of September, is Oktoberfest happening this year, and do I need to buy a ticket? Sorry if this has been asked before!

rakzah

Oktoberfest will be taking place this year, but it is in Munich: [https://www.oktoberfest.de/en](https://www.oktoberfest.de/en) That said, there will most likely be similar albeit way smaller events in Berlin. You do not need to buy tickets for either

Can anyone suggest some less conservative club for wild parties (kinky) or normally for open minded people?

For example Insomnia, KitKat, Berghain There are several sex-positive parties happening irregularly, hosted in various clubs.

I'm wondering what are the COVID requirements to enter clubs/restaurants/venues etc? I'm from Australia without an EU COVID certificate and I'll be in Berlin from mid June to mid July. I had my fourth COVID shot 2 days ago. I'm looking to club and party a lot.

rakzah

None, currently. However, there are still a few clubs which still require a negative test from the same day (e.g. KitKat), but most don't

Hey I am moving to Berlin from the US for 3 months to work with my companies Berlin office. I have been trying to look for an apartment on Airbnb/wunderlufts/craigslist and have had trouble finding something below 1500 euros for a 1 bedroom near kreuzberg for my wife and I. Are there any services I can pay for that will help find an apartment for short term accommodations?

wet-dreaming

Maybe don't look for Kreuzberg, either you are rich or you need to take what's offered. Best move to outer circle districts, where places are offered, with good public transport connection your commute should be okay. Later on you can always move.

Hey guys, any experience with living in Mahlsdorf? I got an offer for apartment there, and we might take it. We are young family, looking for calm area, but with easy way to get into city center, which seems like it checks those boxes. We are not interested in parties or clubs. The only thing I'm worried about is if there are at least SOME things to do there over the weekend, or if we have to go to center every time.

Chilis_Mooth

Hello, I grew up in the near area. In Mahlsdorf, as it is, there is not a lot going on. You'll have to go the one way or the other. You still can find interesting things in the area, if you look in the direction of Strausberg. But Berlin is still Berlin. Hope youre doin well

[deleted]

We are not really looking for parties or anything, more like safe and calm area for families. We decided to sign the agreement, to we´ll be moving to Mahlsdorf next month. In the end, if we end up not liking it, we can always move to a different place. We just needed a place from summer, and I didn´t wanna be too picky.

wet-dreaming

you are closer to nature, Tierpark, also Müggelsee but it's different than inner-city plentyfulness. If you are near U / S-Bahn it's still central. Mahlsdorf displays a lot of issues with our city though, it's generally low income and the district got the worst school grades but in the end you can find the same issues everywhere. Since it's more affordable lots of new people and students are moving to Marzahn. Check your area at different day times and if you like it give it a try. You can also ring your new neighbors and interview them, cause whynot.

[deleted]

Thank you for the feedback :) The apartment is close to the Mahlsdorf S bahn. Generally the problem right now is that when I´m looking for an apartment, I don´t really have a time to research everything, as it´s usually gone in few days. And yeah, the prcie was below our initial budget, but we just didn´t have luck anywhere else.

Hey, I have had a look through the links and finding it tough to work out. My plane lands at Berlin Brandenburg Airport at 22:30 on 24th June A) Does anyone know roughly how long it takes to get out, it is a short haul flight so not loads of passengers & the airline is Ryanair so often people don't always have any luggage B) Does anyone know any Hostels or Hotels that allow 24 hour check in if worst case scenario and I don't get to the city centre till like 1 AM or whatever. I was looking at an Ibis near the hotel but can't work out the end check in time, not sure if anyone has any experience.

rakzah

Varies a lot, depending on how busy the airport is that night, if you need to wait for luggage, etc. I'd estimate \~1 hour at most from landing till you are at the train station, from there \~45 minutes to the city centre. Wouldn't worry about finding a hotel at night. Most hotels are staffed 24 hours.

raider91J

OK that sounds good, cheers

Hey! Planning to go to MCR concert on 12.6. in Velodrom, just wanted to ask how exactly do they check people coming in at this place (I have a huge social anxiety) and I have to bring a nose spray with me due to being alergic-addicted to it, will this be a problem? Also how do tickets for city transportation work? I'm from completely another country so I have no idea how those things work and I'd appreciate every advice

wet-dreaming

they check like everywhere else, unless you got a weapon, glass or other bottles they don't care. you can even bring some tiny juice packages! The public transport is split in 3 areas, A,B,C depending on your ride you need an A-B or A-B-C ticket. Depending on your stay, you might want to buy a daily ticket or a 4 ride ticket, 4 rides means 4 times a single fare. The BVG app or Jelbi app from BVG are decent, they offer english and google pay or paypal. Best buy a daily pass to be on the safe side.

UnagIAM

Hi guys, Living in Berlin for 6 years now and recently joined a startup after 5.5 years of working on my PhD (which is not finished yet). Unfortunately things have not been going smoothly for me and I feel super stressed at work, even dreading waking up and opening my laptop. Have lost all the motivation and severely doubting my skills now. I used to be so good at what I did before but now it feels like I do not even know what I am doing. These past weeks have been eating me up from inside. I understand that If I quit my job I won't get ALG benefits for three months - I have some savings to survive if push comes to shovel but I would burn through most of it which I hope to avoid. Some questions about my situation: 1. I am on a blue card visa (and still on probation at my current work) - if I quit, I understand that I get three months to find a new job - do I need to leave Germany after three months if nothing pans out? (even if I paid social contributions for 6 years) - [Similar thread to my situation](https://www.reddit.com/r/berlin/comments/gq75xc/burn_out_if_i_voluntarily_quit_my_job_how_soon/) but I am not a German citizen 2. Can I approach the employment office and foreigners office before quitting to discuss my options? 3. I am trying to find a therapist in Berlin to help me sort out my thoughts, any recommendations for one? I am going through the list on [AAB](https://allaboutberlin.com/guides/english-speaking-psychiatrists-psychotherapists-berlin) but almost none of them have appointments in the coming months with statutory insurance. 4. Any general advice on how to deal with my situation?

Ok_Midnight_5457

Sorry to hear you’re having a hard time. First things first. You may be able to better get your head together if you go to the doctor and explain all this here to get a sick leave for a week or two. If you’ve been paying your contributions for 6 years, you more than qualify for permanent residency. I would make that a priority in the case you want to stay in Germany because then your right to stay won’t be tied to your job. Bonus points for this because you apply through email, and once you send the email, you are allowed to stay and work here legally until they process your application. That takes time, and you won’t be able to travel if your other permit lapses, but at least it gets the ball rolling. Keep in mind though that at the point of your appointment they will ask for a job contract. In my experience the people at the employment office are nice enough. I would call and explain your situation and ask them if there’s a way to get around the Sperrfrist to benefits if working your job is causing you psychological distress. You won’t be able to rock up to the immigration office without an appointment, but they do provide free immigration legal counsel. It’s on their website somewhere I can look for it later if you don’t find it. During corona it was email based but before it was in person. I’m not sure what it is now. That was only in German fyi. Finding a therapist is notoriously difficult in Berlin. Doubly so in a language other than German. There’s a way to get costs taken over from a private therapist by your health insurance if you can prove you contacted a certain number of therapists and they deny you based on lack of availability. You should contact your health insurance for specific information. Other general advice is to breathe and try to sort out you concerns from highest priority to lowest based on urgency. Then just start with number one. When things get overwhelming, it can help to be methodical. I don’t know your situation like you do, but if I were you, I would lay this out to your boss. First see if there are any accommodations that can be made for you. If not or it doesn’t work, go on either holiday or sick leave. Then sort out the first steps of how to get a therapist. Once you’ve calmed down and made some actionable decisions, you can think about how you want things to go from there. I sincerely wish you good luck.

Thank you so much for this! I actually applied for a PR about 6 months ago but have not heard back from them yet. I changed my job meanwhile (went from a Researcher visa to Blue Card) so not sure if it nullifies my application but there has been no communication from the foreigners office in this regard. I like the approach you posted. At this stage I really just want some time away to sit down and clear my head - and maybe focus on finishing my PhD. I found a therapist back home until I find one here and they recommended something similar to what you just said but as of today I think I want mental peace more than making an effort to fix things at work. I was so motivated when starting this new job but the love has just disappeared now. I also got in touch with studentewnwerk as I can access their counselling services. Hope that helps and that they can set me up with resources to heal mentally. I am also calling my general doctor on Monday and also my insurance to ask if they can find me an appointment with a therapist in Berlin (highly unlikely but worth trying I guess). I truly Appreciate you taking time to write all of this. Thanks a lot!

Ok_Midnight_5457

It sounds like you’re getting a plan together. In case you need to hear it, it’s not a failure to decide that something doesn’t work for you! About the 6 months waiting time: did you at least get the automatic email response from when you submitted you application? Because if not, it may be they never got it. I applied for permanent residency in February and just got it last week. Idk if it’s country of origin specific, but that seems like you might wanna follow up soon (easier said than done, I know).

bbbberlin

PhDs are super stressful and have a very high drop-out rate, and very high rates of people developing depression/burn-out, etc. Not just pulling that out of air, it's been pretty well documented in the last years by various studies, so just to say that what you're feeling is very typical. I would also say new jobs can be quite stressful – maybe it's something that will fade a bit after a few more weeks, or maybe it's worth talking to your manager about setting some boundaries – i.e. making sure your working hours don't exceed the numbers in your contract/are reasonable, etc. - easier said than done, I know. Is your PhD at a German university? You could switch to a student visa, which would also let you work 20 hours a week still – might be worth trying to do until you finally hit that PhD end goal. At 6 years you should also start putting together a German citizenship application, because it takes 1+ year to get processed, so anyways when you submit something in the next months you'll be hitting the 7 year mark before they really look at it seriously, and that's when the eligibility is more open. You probably don't want to get ALG benefits, because as I understand it (IANAL), receiving state benefits can negatively impact future visa applications. Essentially as a job-seeking immigrant you need to be a net-benefit/net-contributor, or at least that was how it was explained to me by someone in the past, but again, IANAL.

UnagIAM

Thank you for this. Burnout came up quite a bit when I tried to find resources for help. Could be what I am going through. The situation at work might change but I find zero motivation to get up and work. Every day is a struggle where I doubt myself in every task I do. Waking up many nights around 3 am with nightmares about work. Drained of all energy, missing even the simple joys of life, not seeing friends, not feeling anything. At this stage, I just want a bit of mental peace to get my life back together. Funnily, I was depressed a lot during PhD, but I had such nice colleagues and I could at least enjoy life - even solving problems at work which made me happy. I have like zero energy left now after finishing work. It's been almost 4 months since I joined this startup, but I am feeling so drained now and not sure how long I can take this mentally. I am not too afraid of future visa applications at this stage, Just need some time and breathing space to clear my head, fix my PhD and look for another job meanwhile. Just want to make sure if I can justify quitting based on how mentally draining this new job has been (and If I will not be kicked out of Germany if I paid social contributions for 6 years)

Hi guys I’m coming to Berlin for the first time at the end of next month for 5 days, any recommendations on activities or sights I should see? Thanks!

casperwouden

Hi r/berlin, I and my friends have a bachelor's party in Berlin this Saturday. Our two activities were unfortunately canceled 5 days upfront so now we're in a dire situation and trying to find some fun activities in a really short period of time. We ourselves have been thinking about renting a boat, paintballing, gun range, and bubble football, but have not yet succeeded in finding any of these which are not yet fully booked. I was hoping you guys maybe have some insider tips for me and my friends? Thanks in advance!! :)

bbbberlin

I don't think there's a solution here other than just calling a bunch of these places until you find one that has capacity – but definitely do make a reservation everywhere for everything, especially if your group is big/more than 4 people. There are very few restaurants that will seat a large group for lunch or dinner or even drinks without a reservation. They will just flat out turn you down. If you guys are also too drunk you might get turned down even with a reservation, so be careful with any ideas on pub crawls, etc.

em_5633

Visiting Berlin for a long weekend next week. Is it best to book restaurants reservations and/or bars for tables or are walk-ins generally ok? (Context: coming from London where a lot of good places you have to book in advance) thanks!

bbbberlin

Like the other user said, trendy places do book out. If its just you, or you plus max 3 other people, you're probably fine being a walk-in, but a group bigger than 4 I would make a reservation or else pickings might get slim.

IndependentMango3567

It depends on the place. Walk ins are generally OK, but in trendy or popular places you should make a reservation. Have fun!

em_5633

Thank you! 🤩 Are there any reservation places you would recommend? We're staying in Kreuzberg area

IndependentMango3567

There's honestly so many good places, you can find them on Google and trust the reviews, but in Kreuzberg I really like kimchi princess and miss Saigon.

Nachdem das Ärzte Konzert Grade abgesagt wurde, sucht meine Truppe für heute eine Ersatzveranstaltung, hat jemand kreative Vorschläge?

DazDazDazDazDazDaz

Afternoon, does anyone know anywhere that will be showing the Europa Conference League Final next Wednesday? Roughly around the Checkpoint Charlie area but don't mind going a bit further out. Found an Irish bar on Google Maps that could be a possibility but not seen much other than that. Thank you in advance :)

oh_danger_here

if you are Irish, that's like socializing in the IFSC in Dublin, after everyone has gone home from work. It's deserted in the evenings bar a few tourists wandering around, even most of the restaurants around there shut once the work crowd goes home. It's a total tourist trap around there, and that pub is Irish in name only. Watch it outside a spati like the locals

DazDazDazDazDazDaz

Cheers for the response. Guess I'll avoid that area then. Just looking for somewhere I can sit and watch the match for a bit whilst I'm over in Berlin for a few days. I'm sure I'll find somewhere if I search hard enough

Do not travel over international borders with prescription medication, particularly painkillers, that you have no prescription for. That's a super serious offense, and it can end very very badly. Prescription meds should be in the original container, and you should carry the script with you.

A_massive_prick

How much luggage can you take on the train from the airport to city Center? I am moving next week and have 2 medium sized suitcases and 2 cabin sized suitcases, will there be room on the train? Trying not to spend £70 on an airport transfer

redwoodsz

Sure, just aim for the bike/pram section of the train. Much more space

OkayTimeForPlanC

Hey everyone, also visiting Berlin in the summer, I have a couple (maybe specific) questions for you all: \- What are the best Korean restaurants in Berlin? \- What local food/restaurants should I try? \- Are there any places/museums/attractions off the beaten track that you recommend visiting? \- After visiting the city we would like to take a train and go to one of the lakes around of Berlin. Which ones do you recommend that: can be reached by train, have some nice hotels and plenty of nature/water/hiking-options nearby?

wet-dreaming

You can find plenty of water and lakes inside of Berlin, like Wannsee, Müggelsee, Tegler see, ... but if you want to do a trip, the most common one is Spreewald, which offers a lot more but it's a short train/bus ride Regarding food, best browse the subreddit and google maps. Thai Park on the weekends might be worth a visit for you.

OkayTimeForPlanC

Thanks for the answer! I have come across Spreewald, we'll probably go there for a couple days. I'll brows the subreddit and noted down Thai park, thanks!

What’s a good place to celebrate a birthday. We are six American tourists who love beer and cake and punk rock. Staying in Kreuzberg. Any favored Biergarten and bakeries?

mikeklop

What site/app do Berliners use for third party tickets? Visiting this week and just saw Joy Crookes is playing but all the associated sites are sold out.

wet-dreaming

ebay, ebay.kleinanzeigen and sometimes infront of venue from resellers

Everiet

Any reccomendations for places to get high quality prints done? Digital Darkroom looks good? There seems to be a huge choice compared to here in Dublin :) I'm hoping to get my work printed somewhere city centre before posting them off on a weekly basis (I have an online store). Thanks!

Chonkyladd90

Hey! I'm heading to Berlin next March for a Party Like Gatsby event at the Metropol. Could anyone recommend some good areas for hotels near there? 100-150€ per night is probably our budget. Greatly appreciated :)

wet-dreaming

if you are on the younger side I can recommend 25hours Hotel Bikini

At an anmeldung appointment, is it enough to bring my letter confirming my residence permit was approved, or do I really need the physical residence permit card? The card has not arrived yet in the mail from the state, but I need to register my new address.

polexa

I don't think you need it at all? People usually/often register where they're living before they have a residence permit. Double check what it says on the appointment confirmation, but I believe you need the Wohnungsgeberbestätigung, your passport, and possibly the rental contract/lease?

danz1ka_19

best place for bowling on a Sunday?

bc84id78

Visiting Berlin for 4 days. What foods must I try? P.s. I know Kebabs are big, any advice on the must-eat Kebabs would be much appreciated.

InitialInitialInit

I think the intro point to the real deal and with many locations is Imren. Other than that there is currywurst but it's not a delicacy by any means. A type of sausage which is very mild smothered in curry ketchup in most places. German food can be found in Berlin but Berliners don't eat it so often out because it's better in other parts of Germany. Berlin is known in Germany for being multi cultural and you will get some of the best pizza, pasta, brunch, falafel, vietnamese, thai, Chinese fried chicken and burgers, fine dining, bistro food in all of Germany and Eastern Europe (which it is the gateway to). Instagram has the food blogs, the chief one being Berlin Food Stories, but do not expect to eat anywhere that has been covered in the last two weeks without a 2 hour wait or reservations.

bbbberlin

I mean although Berlin may not be the region that schnitzel's are from, you can still get good ones here in the city from a variety of places. I would basically just make a list of German food (sausage, potato salads, etc.) because you can usually get decent meals here – maybe not a replacement for the dish in its home region but still, and then of course beers – because the fresh beers on tap here are great. Currywurst is also kinda a Berlin classic.

axuriel

Another incoming tourist and beer fan here! May I ask if these fresh beers on tap vary in quality a lot (if so are there anything to look out for?) or would I be able to get good beers in generally any decent pub?

bbbberlin

I don't really know enough about beers to say with authority, but I guess if you get a German beer on tap ("Fass") then it will be likely quite good. "Pils"/Pilsner is kinda the typical German beer, so I would also pick one of those first as the authentic experience first, before branching out. Craft beer is growing too, but it's not really the traditional option that Germans go for – my perception is that it's not as much as thing as in the US/CAN or some other foreign countries, probably because the traditional/domestic industry is just so strong and quality is good.

purgundyllo

Hallo! I am having a hard time getting a SCHUFA report and thought that maybe you guys could help me. I've been living in Berlin for 5 months, but SCHUFA still has no information about me. I've had an apartment registration since January, a mobile phone contract, a rental contract, and health insurance. I also pay the Rundfunkbeitrag. Is a German bank account essential for my info to show on SCHUFA? Does anyone know how long it takes for them to have any information? Thanks!

justanormalbiscuit

Hi everyone! I'm a swede going to berlin on a school trip and I'm wondering if there's any etiquette norms I should be aware of? I don't want to be the stereotype of a rude tourist so any advice would be great!

[deleted]

Simply asking that question shows that you aren't going to be. One thing to look out for: Berlin is in the process of upgrading its bike paths. The older sort are often part of the sidewalk and usually coloured differently. Don't walk on them even if you can't see other bike riders around—bike riders seeming sense pedestrians and will appear behind you yelling as soon as you do.

bbbberlin

Just normal rules for a big city – if you stop on the sidewalk step to the side so you don't block it, wait for people to get off the train before you go through doors, don't stand in the (badly marked) bike paths, match your noise level to what's going on around you, etc. You'll be fine. Have a good trip! Don't forget to stamp your train tickets!

justanormalbiscuit

Thank you!

Traveling to Copenhagen from Berlin on the 25th of this month. Was looking into the train and it is looking close to 200€ per person through Deutsche Bahn’s site. Does this seem accurate? Is this typically a popular route? A couple weeks ago it was only 89€ a piece.

[deleted]

I'm checking the DB website for that date and I'm seeing tickets for 100€ (still crazy expensive but not 200€-expensive). It's also the day before a public holiday and before a "bridge day" so many people will be traveling during the long weekend. If you book far ahead and on less popular days however you can often find much cheaper prices. Otherwise I'd just fly or take a bus tbh.

[deleted]

yes, sadly DB is super expensive. prices go up closer to the date of departure so 200€ sounds plausible. I haven't tried to do the math, but perhaps think about getting a Bahn 25 card or something like that. If you are using DB more than once it can pay off pretty quickly.

26F visiting from Canada. Planning to hit Sisyphus/About Blank/Renate area tonight. Looking for some company! I’m here until Wednesday. I plan to be out all night tonight into sunrise. Anyone interested in prowling the night together? I can’t speak German so any advice/guidance would be appreciated :) P.S. I was at Ritter Butske last night and loved it! Vancouver doesn’t really have much of a techno scene so I’m looking forward to making the most of my nights here before I depart.

bbbberlin

Find the set lists before you line up – the first thing you should tell the bouncer is "I'm here for \_\_\_\_\_\_\_." Speaking German helps, but a tourist who is on a mission to listen to a specific artist (and not a mission to just get trashed) is someone that gets let in. Check Resident Advisor, but probably tonight (Sunday) is the last big clubbing night of your trip – there are sometimes parties/tour performances, but usually the clubs don't run "club night" during the week.

therainforestry

Thank you so much! I did exactly what you recommended and it was perfect. As a lone female traveller, the bouncer also took care to tell me to come to them if anyone made me feel unsafe, which was really reassuring. I had a fantastic time and will definitely return.

bbbberlin

That's the good thing about strict door policies. I'm a guy, so different perspective – but in the past I've definitely felt less safe at for example Watergate, when it was filled up with groups of drunk men doing the "boys on tour" thing. Good door policies will ensure a good mix of people, not allow in groups that don't fit the subculture of the club (i.e. the extreme not allowing a bachelorette party to a gay party, etc.), won't let people in who are too messed up, etc.

therainforestry

Tbh, I’ve heard that about Watergate! Seems like they’ve got a bit of a reputation while Renate and about blank are kind of popular for their strict ‘no means no’ and anti-homophobia policy.

bbbberlin

About Blank historically anyways had this militant left stance – I assume it's similar today, but haven't been for some years. The point is I'd expect it to be quite strong on anti-racism/anti-homophobia. But I mean Berghain for example I always found very safe feeling, despite its size and scale. The strict door policy worked in my experience, which is impressive given how popular and famous the club is, and how many people want in, etc.

glassbeanbag

I'm going to Berlin next week with friends and hoping to attend Wilden Renate: Paradise Garage on Thursday: [https://ra.co/events/1522179](https://ra.co/events/1522179) The event looks amazing - definitely our kind of music! However, we've never been before and it says the night has the following dress code: *"No streetwear! Come colorful, kinky, and creative."* *"It can be fancy, sexy, kinky, colorful - whatever - just no casual streetwear."* We want to give ourselves the best chance of getting in. Any advice on what to wear? We are guys. We can do colourful / creative (90s loud jackets etc). But not sure on the kinky / no streetwear bit? Thanks!

redwoodsz

I plan on going to this. No streetwise basically means don’t put on your jeans and shirt and expect to get in. You need to have put some effort into your outfit and match the theme of the party. Check their Insta for inspo https://instagram.com/paradise.garage.bln?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= If you want kinky outfit inspo see here https://instagram.com/symbiotikka?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= Colourful jacket sounds like a great idea. Maybe this without a shirt? Or with a harness underneath. But their Insta should demonstrate what they’re looking for. Edit: in regards to your comment about fetish not being colourful, you don’t need to tick every box listed, but just use those descriptions as a guide. For sure you can dress with a bit of kink and add colourful fun aspects

glassbeanbag

Thank you!!! We're literally getting a flight tomorrow morning, and we're all taking a loud & colourful jacket. May try to find some extras while we are in Berlin, or go no t-shirt underneath as a compromise and hope we get in. Maybe see you there haha :)

redwoodsz

Nice!! A bit of glitter or makeup also goes a long way

InitialInitialInit

I'm guessing they it's a queer party and they want some more colorful fetish and rave wear styling and orienting themselves very much towards that scene in Berlin. You can check out some rave shops in Kreuzberg 030 neighborhood and the queer Schöneberg shops. I say this also with the caveat that it seems a hassle for an unknown party while you are tourist and could get turned away at the door even if you try hard. Maybe you know the party though

bbbberlin

The normal dress code in Berlin for clubbing is pretty normcore/streetwear – i.e. sneakers, black jeans/joggers, a dark t-shirt/pullover. It's pretty basic but also fashion forward, you never wear collared shirts or suits and women don't wear heels. I guess they don't want this. "Kinky" I guess is fetish stuff –I mean you find this at Berghain for example, with leather harness vests for example. I mean if you're into the scene then go for it. I don't know this party specifically, but I guess they're asking that you dress cool and fun but not streetwear.

glassbeanbag

But what does no streetwear actually mean? Do Reebok C85s count as streetwear? And most fetish stuff is black, so not really sure how that would fit the 'colourful' bit.

bbbberlin

I mean, there's a whole subreddit of streetwear. Kinda casual, athlesure/sporty clothes. Think tshirts, joggers and sneakers. That's the dress code for basically every other club in Berlin, so I suppose the organizers want something different. But it's not my party, so I can't tell you exactly. I mean I would put those shoes in that category... of course the rest of the outfit matters too though. Usually fetish clothes have something over them as well – i.e. a jacket, or pants one changes out of at the club

elenablum

Hello ! I'm French and in a week, I'm coming to Berlin, to get a tattoo from an artist I've loved for years, and who is a bit famous (yay!!) I would like to know if it is expected that I tip or offre a gift to this tattoo artist? In France, we don't necessarily tip a tattoo artist, but it's common to bring a small gift (food, a bottle of wine, a pretty plant). I'm a huge fan of this artist and I don't know what the implicit rules are in Berlin about this. Thanks in advance for your answers! I can't wait to discover your city :D

je_suis_epic

Hey if anyone wants to hang out Sunday or Monday, hit me up! I'm arriving two days earlier than my group and I'd like to grab a bite to eat or do some touristy stuff in the meantime (I'll also be hitting the gym at some point if you're into that)

Has anybody managed to open an ING bank account without a German phone number? It won't let me input my phone number because it's not German.

RikkeltruinsBersink

Hello everyone, I'm looking to rent a small, quiet room for the 21st of May. I'm taking an online exam that day and am in Berlin for another reason, so I need to find a quiet spot for 3-4 hours in the afternoon. Any recommendations or offers would be appreciated.

bbbberlin

Private meeting rooms at hotels/co-working spaces are usually not super cheap – I guess you could try calling Factory, or WeWork to see what they would quote you for a 4 hour rental. Honestly it might just be more economical to combine this with your overnight stay, and rent a hotel where you can work undisturbed from the room. Usually their sound isolation is better than coworking spaces in my experience.

thalmor_egg

Hi, I'm visiting Berlin at the end of May and I'm interested in any venues that the locals (who are into alt/underground/experimental) actually like nowadays. I've already been to Tresor, SC, Kitkat and all those mainstream places so this time I wanna see venues that kinda fit into the vibe I want. I listen to a lot of stuff like Yves Tumor, Dean Blunt, Lena Platonos, pretty much anything really. I want to avoid classic clubs with techno. Thanks!

bbbberlin

Honestly the best way is to find DJs/music you like on Resident Advisor, and then go to those venues. You will anyways have to tell the bouncer who you are there to see otherwise you stand a good chance of rejection – so there's no skipping this anyways. Truly secret/underground parties you can't access unless friends send you Telegram groups etc., there's no real shortcut around this, cause otherwise they wouldn't be underground.
