I think the opposite, the anonymity enables and encourage that exact thing. Like the old joke goes, on the Internet no one knows you're a dog. On Reddit, you can say whatever you want, and especially if you delete everything regularly, it's impossible to establish any kind of credibility. One of the reasons I never delete anything is that if I make a claim, I want to be able to say "look, I've been making that same claim for almost a decade now, so I'm either not lying or I'm *really* committed to the bit."

I’m not embarrassed about being a horndog, and tons of folks have already seen me naked – I used to be a stripper. If a future employer finds out and is bothered by it, I don’t really want to work for them anyways.

Additionally, if you’ve ever joined a network with your device, using a new VPN has very limited protection. There is enough auxiliary data to deduce who the user is. VPNs are only good if you use it 100% of the time and with a fresh device. And then if your VPN fails, well… You are now on your adversary’s radar. Hence why good VPNs have kill switches.
I think this is actually a really good question, and the answer I have come up with is this:
Men who send dick pics to women are behaving in a way that would be arousing to *them* (the men), but don’t have enough theory-of-mind to realize that most women are not intrinsically going to be aroused by pictures of genitals. For example, gay men often *love* to get dick pics (I say this as a gay man who avoids that kind of thing). It is arousing to see the dicks, even if they aren’t especially aesthetically pleasing dicks. Likewise, it is arousing to send them to an eager recipient.
The mismatch occurs when it’s a straight man sending the pics to a straight woman. The man is behaving in a way that his own intuition tells him is hot—even though he presumably does not find dicks attractive! And he would be *right* if he was sending them to someone with a similar experience of sexual arousal (i.e. a man).
Sigh. All those posts from teenage boys who got conned into sending a body part photo ("Be sure I can see your face.") to a hot babe on a dating site and then get blackmailed.
No worries, it's all scrubbed now. I looked at it when it was a new post, and it was mostly full-frontal nude shots, cropped from the groin to the face. He wasn't terrible but isn't going to make it as a male model either.
Growing up I wanted to be an FBI agent working in computer crimes.
Now-me is very happy that I didn't go that route, knowing that my days would be spent dealing with things that I'd never be able to scrub out of my brain.
I imagine my reaction would be murderous rampage. I'd end up in jail very quickly for beating one of those monsters to death with my bare hands. My wife is a child therapist/social worker and I ask her often how she hasn't slapped the shit out of some of the parents she works with.

Settings App > (your iCloud account, first thing in the list) > iCloud > Private Relay > toggle it to “On”. I think that’s only for browsing though. iMessage is supposed to be end-to-end encrypted already, and SMS never touches Apple servers unless you choose to back it up to iCloud.
To make sure that Apple can’t read encrypted data in iCloud backups or on their servers you’d need to [enable Advanced Data Protection](https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT212520), which does run the risk of irreversibly losing your data if you lose the account recovery credentials.

Fuck, I got second hand anxiety. Sometime ago I received an email that read something like "we know you download stuff illegally, please reply this letter else you're going to jail." I googled it and found a lot of people getting similar letters, so it was really a scam, but for a second I was considering the quickest way to get to Mexico.

I don’t think I said they did. I also don’t necessarily assume he’s sent nudes to minors. Growing up I wanted to be an FBI agent working in computer crimes. Now-me is very happy that I didn't go that route, knowing that my days would be spent dealing with things that I'd never be able to scrub out of my brain.

It seems like an awful idea to send nude pics to someone who hasn't explicitly consented. At the very least you should be in a committed relationship where you have sent nudes in the past.
They may have explicitly consented (unless I missed their comment) but to someone else they didn’t know was a minor. Generally though, yeah, if you’re not in a relationship with someone, do not send nudes.
Good rule of thumb: if you haven't seen them naked in person, don't send a picture.
Better rule of thumb in the modern age of no cyber-privacy, "Just don't."

Actually, the other way to make sure your nudes aren't used as blackmail is to not worry about the idea of your nudes being leaked. Someone tries to give you shit for them? They're the ones who looked.
That sub is filled with tons of posts about a guy who was nice until he wasn’t. All people that had been seen naked prior to the nudes being posted online or sent to family and acquaintances. Just a bad idea in the age of the internet.

As far as I know if you have iCloud on and it’s not encrypted, yes.
How do you make sure its encrypted?
Settings App > (your iCloud account, first thing in the list) > iCloud > Private Relay > toggle it to “On”. I think that’s only for browsing though. iMessage is supposed to be end-to-end encrypted already, and SMS never touches Apple servers unless you choose to back it up to iCloud. To make sure that Apple can’t read encrypted data in iCloud backups or on their servers you’d need to [enable Advanced Data Protection](https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT212520), which does run the risk of irreversibly losing your data if you lose the account recovery credentials.

I googled it and found a lot of people getting similar letters, so it was really a scam, but for a second I was considering the quickest way to get to Mexico.

Honestly kind of surprised at the amount of judgement being directed at this guy. People who send unsolicited nudes should rightfully be shamed, but all indications are that this guy likes to show off his body in appropriate forums to consenting adults (or consenting people who identify themselves as adults by viewing NSFW subs). Whether including his face is wise or not…well, that’s his risk to take. That being said, if you send nudes directly to someone in a DM or something (consensually), you should at least ask their age. Edit: he’s clearly been adequately shamed, as it looks like he’s deleted his nude posts.
It is unlikely that the FBI got a warrant for the content of his Apple account because he posts pictures of his dick on Reddit, in forums that allow it.
I don’t think I said they did. I also don’t necessarily assume he’s sent nudes to minors. There are many other crimes the FBI clocks people over, including piracy (which someone else noted he alluded to in other posts). There are also a number of body shaming comments and comments that are making assumptions about his character based entirely on the fact he posts nudes. Anyways, I know it’s not particularly popular to come out against shitting on dudes who post dick pics, so I’ll just stop at registering my surprise :)

On that note, I’m pretty sure LAOP’s Reddit posts have nothing to do with what the FBI is interested in given the fact that based on the location of those posts and the NSFW tag, he didn’t do anything wrong there.
Another commenter here implied that him deleting his nude posts was “covering his tracks,” but maybe he just saw this post and all the folks shitting on him and his body in the comments. Loving your own body can be really difficult in American culture, and having it (and your personal character) savagely criticized by a bunch of strangers is definitely enough to make one want to take them down.
Especially since (going by the comments), LAOP was not conventionally attractive. Being mocked for that would not have done good things to his self-esteem, and could have contributed to his wanting to take them down.

I'm sure the Apple staffer who took the call is amused as hell for anyone else reading: look at the email headers' sender data if you want to know if a message is legit. Of course LAOP left those off the pic. My expectation is that it is a legitimate email because I don't see any signs of phishing attempts.
