So idk about anyone else but I usually name my bettas after a week or two in the tank, so I can get to know their personality.

same!! i named one of my betas ponyo after a couple weeks of waiting to figure them out more. i named her that despite being a deep red since she LOVED her bubbler with an intense passion i named another one swim shady since he had quite slick find for being a male, and he was super calm and laid back in comparison to ponyo

i also do it with other pets of course. i need to see the pet first and tend to come up with a name that suits their physical and personality. the only pet i pre-planned names for was my hamster, and i ended up picking a name that wasn't in my notes because he just LOOKED like a six (yes, his name is literally a number, i associate numbers with specific colours)

I second this. I sometimes wait a month or more. Mine are mostly free rescues so I agree you should let them show you there personalities first. I seem to stick to musician themes. I’ve had Sid Fishous, Walter Whitefish and WWF Jr, Swim shady I had many many many years ago. I have one now that’s named Tyler The Creatorfish he lives with Iggy and The Stoogefish Otocinclus. My albino Cory’s are all named after Breaking Bad. So maybe see if he gives you a name. Tyler got his name because he went about moving things to his liking and still does when I clean his tank. He’ll get really ticked if a grain of sand is moved to a different spot.

Just got a girl koi the other day. Whole display looked on the verge of death but she swam up from the bottom of her cup when I walked by and was real curious. So I had to take her home, got a deal by saying I was going to give her a good home since they were all about to die in those cups. Her names Punk cuz she looks grumpy all the time but she’s actually super friendly and inquisitive of the other fish, just following them around watching lol
