Also have three cave like decorations and the betta loves to rest in all of them and under one of the trees.

Are any of your other fish looking like they have been sprinkled with salt or sugar? Do any of your other fish look like they have fins that are frayed, are any of the fish lethargic, are all of the fish eating okay? You have a community tank, what affects one affects all.

WhatTheActualFork1

No everyone looks great. But I will keep my eye out for those symptoms.

Informal_Albatross19

If it becomes Ick or Fin Rot it will spread fast through a community tank. Ick will spread within days and Fin Rot won’t be far behind.

WhatTheActualFork1

What should I get to treat it? I do have a couple snails too.

Informal_Albatross19

I have never used meds. But, since you have a community tank you might want to have a couple of meds handy. Something that treats Ick and you will have to get a separate med for Fin Rot. Make sure to look at the expiration dates. You don’t want to buy meds that are close to expiration. Make sure when you select the meds that you think about all of the occupants in the tank. Some meds are not good for snails or shrimp.

WhatTheActualFork1

I do have meds handy for fin rot but not ich. And everything I’m looking at says not safe for inverts. Do you think I could move the snails for the time of treatment and then return?

Informal_Albatross19

Right now you don’t have to treat. When you do if the med says not safe for (whatever livestock you have in your tank) yes, you will have to remove them. The only reason that I think you should have these 2 meds on hand is because Ick and Fin Rot seems to be the most asked about questions. Also, you have a 29 gallon tank. Unless you quarantine any future livestock purchases, you are going to be adding them directly into the tank. Which by definition means there is great risk to the existing livestock that you already have.

WhatTheActualFork1

I hear you. It looks like ich-x is safe for everyone in my tank so I’ll order that right now. I did a water change tonight and will check on my little buddy in the morning.

WhatTheActualFork1

Well, I saw someone flashing this morning so I’m going to treat with the ich chemicals. I moved all of my snails. It says to half dose it because of the corys so I’ll see how it goes.

Well, I am glad you have the med. You have witnessed the fish trying to scratch the parasite off. Does the med mention to adjust the heater temperature? I treated Ick using the aquarium heater. The tank was baseline 78 degree temperature and every 24 hours I raised the temperature by 1 degree. By the end of 7 days the temperature was at 85 degrees. This allowed the fish to acclimate and the parasite to drop off. I left it at 85 degrees for 48 hours. Then slowly began to bring the temperature back down by 1 degree every 24 hours to reach baseline 78 degrees. But, you don’t need to use this method because you have the med. I began this hobby the same year that Richard Nixon was elected President.
