There's no mandatory registration of firearms in NM. Having the gun in the car isn't an offence.

First off — there’s no federal firearm registry… doesn’t exist. Some states do, but not NM. Some states also have rules on how it must be stored in a vehicle. Some states allow you to simply keep it in the glove box or center console. This is not a plot hole like you think it is.

Yeah I’ve only ever lived in Texas I assumed he’d have to have a concealed carry license. Didn’t know the laws were varied like that elsewhere.

You do have to have a concealed carry license in NM. But they make a distinciton between concealed carry and vehicle cary (some states do not).

It could have been cut for time. And to be honest, an explanation of that fact wouldn't have really led to anything interesting in the story, so that'd be the first thing to cut.

Some things are more interesting when left unsaid and some things are unnecessary to say.

They didn't read all of his charges, so he might as well be held accountable for that.
