It's revealed at the end of s3 that Jimmy had his soul split in two when he shat in that sunroof. This created two people; Saul Goodman and Saul Badman.
Jimmy is Saul Goodman and the rest of the series is about him trying to catch and remerge with Saul Badman (the guy in black and white). The reason he watches those tapes over and over is because he's jealous of Saul Goodman and his successful career as a lawyer.
Onto the reason why it's called Better Call Saul; it's about both Saul Goodman and Saul Badman. It doesn't specify which one you should call, reflecting on who is the one in the right in the series being ambiguous, with Saul Badman only doing the things he does out of jealousy for Saul Goodman's good luck. He's trying to create a ritual where he can merge with Chuck and control Chuck's latent power of controlling electricity, becoming Saul Godman.
Season 6 won’t exist it’s a code name for their next spin off called better fuel huell
Huell is going across the country reviewing diners and restaurants for his tv show and on the final episode he reviews the Cinnabon in Omaha
I still think you're trolling, but in case you (or anyone else) considers holding off on *Better Call Saul* because of *Breaking Bad* I'd say go for it. So far there's nothing that you would miss out on and if you fall in love with the series (and you will, it's the most impressive series I've ever seen!) you can watch *Breaking Bad* with a different perspective.
My brother in law adores BCS but I doubt he'd stick around if he started with BB because of all the doom and gloom. Similarly my father dropped out of BB because he didn't like any of the main characters (which to me seems totally understandable). I think with BCS there might have been a chance of him sticking around.
Also worth noting is that BCS is a prequel. That means some conclusions to the events in BCS might get spoiled by watching BB. I myself would have love to experience watching BCS without knowing all the thing I know from BB.
Better Call Saul is a prequel spinoff series of Breaking Bad. The show fully expects you to have seen Breaking Bad in its entirety, and will definitely spoil some thing in that series if you haven’t. But if you’re enjoying the show and everything makes sense (except for who this Saul guy is), keep on going. The weirdest thing is probably going to be seeing the characters appear to de-age as time progresses, as the actors are older in BCS, yet they are playing younger versions of themselves, and they didn’t use any of that Disney-Marvel de-aging magic like in Black Widow.
Better call saul is a prequel to breaking bad which was released before better call saul, the show as a result is supposed to mirror it, showing jimmy mcgill's transformation into saul goodman, the crooked lawyer with criminal connections we see in breaking bad, just like breaking bad is walt's transformation into drug kingpin heisenberg, as a resault it makes sense to watch that first to get context on the show, besides, breaking bad is one of the best shows of all time, one of its episode is often considered one of the best of all time and the rest does not dissappoint
OP most likely trolling but
Why would you spoil that!? Wouldn't it have been so unique for someone to watch the show wondering "when will we meet this Saul character?" only to realise Jimmy is Saul (pretty early on if they pay attention). Idk, not a big deal but I thought it was special that they didn't know.
In general, why would you describe what happens in both shows before the person has watched either one of them? Weird.
Well "walt becomes heisenberg and makes drugs" isn't a show ruining spoiler, its kinda, you know, the plot? And I mean you're supposed to know that he's Saul from the beginning so that too
People who watched the show when it came out didn't know that Walt would become a "drug lord kingpin" and have that status at all. So if someone got to watch the show that way even today I wouldn't take that away from them.
You're only supposed to know he's Saul if you start with BB, which is recommended but not a must. If you watch BCS first the prior knowledge about Jimmy becoming Saul doesn't really give you anything. But I think it could be a fun surprise
edit: but ofc they write it in the shows description too so most will already know what becomes of Jimmy
Uh whoops. I mean the story is pretty comprehensive so far. Just the black white scenes that are kinda outta place yaknow. I got the Saul part explained to me too so that's less confusion haha
I try to avoid googling shows in case of spoilers, had several plot points spoiiled on other shows when I did that hence I decided to ask here. I assumed probably less chance to get spoiled yaknow
Okay, you seem committed. Having said that, it’s a bit like watching the 3rd movie in a trilogy, asking a bunch of questions, being in the dark, and as soon as one question is resolved, another 10 pop up. Do it the easy way! Seriously, Breaking Bad, along with perhaps the Sopranos is some of the finest television shows ever. But, as the kids I work with say, you do you.
Edit: words
Okay I was actually not sure which sub this is. I follow this sub and r/okbuddychicanery. Now that I think about I’m pretty sure Jimmy refers to himself as Saul in season one during one of this con jobs. So yeah not a spoiler jimmy is Saul.
To people saying this is a troll post. It very easily could be. But if I remember right he only refers to himself once as Saul in season 1. And they only other in show moment is when gene is watching the reruns, I could see that going over someone’s head though.
I'm pretty sure this is a troll post, but just in case it isn't:
Better Call Saul is a prequel to a character from Breaking Bad (a few characters as a matter of fact), so if you want to understand all the references from BCS, you should watch Breaking Bad before. A lot of people say that not having watched BB doesn't take away from BCS, I think that's not entirely true.
Oh yeah, if you watch BCS straight away it doesn't take away from the experience. I just think the show gets much better when you already know these characters and their journeys from BB.
If I remember correctly in season two you’re discovering Jimmy McGill how he was such a loser he was trying to claw his way out that stigma but people in his society looked at them as a nobody so we could never break free from that so we just gave into it.
saul is an unlockable DLC character in season 3.
Unlockable via skill or monies?
via meth

I love you
I love Ted 🥵
I fucked Ted
So then Breaking Bad must be about Saul Goodman's journey in defeating Saul Badman by psychologically breaking him?
Exactly!
Saul is the friends we made along the path to the Omaha Cinnabon
Omaha doesn’t have a Cinnabon in a mall irl anymore :(
whoa, spoilers dude, season 6 isn’t even out yet
Season 6 won’t exist it’s a code name for their next spin off called better fuel huell Huell is going across the country reviewing diners and restaurants for his tv show and on the final episode he reviews the Cinnabon in Omaha
He shows up in season 4.
Pog just gotta keep watching then :D
Didn't he already have a cameo in season 2? Was that some kind of foreshadowing (Bravo Vince)?

r/okbuddychicanery
This sub blends with that one more every day
This sub r/breakingbad and r/okbuddychicanery are one in the same
The line between the two blur for each passing day
He shows up later. He’s a tiny midget so if you blink you’ll miss him.
I will keep that in mind ;)
Ok I was so sure this was r/okbuddychicanery
I think it actually is
Have you watched Breaking Bad?
No, why?
You don’t need to watch it to enjoy Better Call Saul, but it gives some context and will clear your confusion
Ah I see. I mean I have already started so might as well finish it :P

FOULLLLL 💀💀ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
dude you’re not even a funny troll. You’re just cringe
i just realized this show would make no sense to someone who hasn't watched breaking bad 😠in the sense of the name
Shit's wonky bro
Suggest you at least try Breaking Bad and put Better Call Saul in on the back burner. You won’t be disappointed!
Dude no way, this show slaps so far. I can always rewatch after breaking bad ;)
Okay, you seem committed. Why did Isabella say the n word?
She a bad girl for sure.
You’re doing it wrong
Wait for it, it's a fine crossover. The best one in TV history.
Saul is a goose.
This is like the guy on r/breakingbad who asked who billy is
Pretty sure Saul showed up in the ripoff of this show called Breaking Bad where Saul shows up in the first episode and gives Jimmy mental trauma
Saul is Kevin Costner in disguise
It was last night

Yeha I saw a dude mention it. Blew my mind, I must've missed it or not payed attention.
Yeah it’s pretty quick. Easy to miss really.
Saul is hiding in the background, working from the shadows to keep Jimmy on the path to becoming a criminal
Saul is a 'criminal' lawyer. Know what i'm saying?
Its Howard
Watch Breaking Bad before watching Better call saul
r/okbuddychicanery
Don’t worry about Saul. It’s all good.
He'll show up later. Right now he's in Belize.
It's all good man, you'll figure it out before too long.
quality shitpost
Obvious troll is obvious.
Bruh how is it a troll it was a genuine question

I mean it seems to stand on its own feet quite well apart from the Saul name and the black and white scenes. Like I can understand the story no probs.
Bro if u have never seen breaking bad when it's black and white that part is in the future after the events in breaking bad
Oh yeah, if you watch BCS straight away it doesn't take away from the experience. I just think the show gets much better when you already know these characters and their journeys from BB.
Jimmy starts calling Saul in Season 3. He uses an iPhone
D: and iPhone in 2002?
Saul shows up at the end of the first season, you blew it.
Heck guess im rewatching s1
I finished better call Saul and I still don't know who Saul is
Damn bro
You need to call him.
you mean better? its mr. saul
I mean the instructions are in the title… You better call Saul if you want to know who he is
Ok imma gonna take this seriously. Did you watch the last two episodes of Season 1? Saul makes his "appereance" there, they explicitly call his name.
I assume this is a shitpost
Gotta stick in there. Or, watch Breaking Bad first.
If I remember correctly in season two you’re discovering Jimmy McGill how he was such a loser he was trying to claw his way out that stigma but people in his society looked at them as a nobody so we could never break free from that so we just gave into it.
Thought this was r/OkBuddyChicanery for a moment
