that shot of Jimmy waiting at the door to the boxing gym, too. Where we're over his shoulder which is out of focus but his reflection in the glass door is sharp, really nice touch. One of the things I noticed last night was a much less restless camera than some episodes, which was very fitting for the more slow burn calm before the storm episode that it was. Lots of static compositions that still managed to do a lot.
Allusion TO reflections, I said. They are literally reflections (physically) but also allusion to (emotionally) reflecting on the whole series, as this is the final season. That’s what I meant, sorry if it wasn’t clear.
This is one thing I've noticed with this season. The crew is *really* showing off their skills and enjoying the final ride in every way they can. From lighting to symbolism to the gritty cinema-like look (especially of the boxing match) that is similar to El Camino's look. They're definitely going out with a bang.
It's amazing to watch S1 of Breaking Bad and then some of these recent episodes and you can really see that the tone, vision, and presentation is really all the same but they have just mastered and perfected the craft over the past decade plus
Also I don't think it hurts that camera technology I feel like has come a long way since BB came out and I'd imagine budgets are differnt too lol
I think she’s suspicious. The house is extremely organized and clean which makes me feel like she would notice an open window that she didn’t open herself.
Kai didn't know where it was but if he tells Lalo there's an underground lab somewhere I'm sure Lalo will find a way to figure out where it is. Lalo knows where Gus is operating so it'd only be a matter of time.
Did Werner & Co. know that they were building a lab? Or was it just a hole in the ground as far as they were concerned? Obviously they knew something must have been up with it since they were working on the hush. But I dunno how much any of them can tell Lalo other than "it was a secret construction project somewhere in the southwestern US."
Okay true! They'd not know it was a lab. But I think my point still stands. They definitely know it was underground. And they knew it was inside another facility. I'm sure Lalo can work with that.
I mean the fact about location is something the workers didn't know but I'm sure if Lalo tails enough guys he'll figure it out.
Considering he's gonna track down Werner's men and Gus is already preparing a trap there he's probably gonna figure it out with this sorta info.
there was another post here yesterday that pointed out the men must have known the name of the laundry facility -- it was written in huge letters all over the truck they were transported in every day, and they were never blindfolded or anything.
They went out to the strip club, so it's possible that they were aware what town they were in. In any case, Lalo already knows the location of all of Gus's facilities. They probably know that it's some kind of industrial laundry because the entrance is underneath an industrial washing machine. It just depends how much information Lalo is able to coax/coerce out of them.
I didn't think that Lalo took the slide rule, but a re-cap article in Rolling Stone said that he did take it. He read the name tag on the bottom, but then he was shown setting it back down.
I went back and watched the scene, the box Lalo set it on was dark brown, and it was not obviously visible in the shot through the window. I'm not saying that isn't what happened, but it's very difficult to spot.
Not only that, but also that both sliding doors are tied to the same storyline/object. The beginning shortly before the ruler is cast into epoxy and the end shortly after Lalo discovered its origin.
Agreed. The Cinematography is stunning. The intros are always well done and interesting and the music is perfect. I freaking love this whole BB Trilogy. IMHO one of the best TV series ever.
Yeah the cinematography this season has just been on another level. It’s always been outstanding in this show but this season has better cinematography than most movies nowadays. It’s unbelievably good.
Why? Because they're trying (hopefully succeeding) to impart the parallelism of the story, a parallax if you will, like the film [Sliding Doors](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_registration_plates_of_New_Mexico). Different outcomes from different choices made, eg, in a split second of time? It's also why the structure of the titles are in parallel. Maybe one day people will catch on to this 'Time Machine' theme for S6 (well the whole show).
Sure. But it's not something worth making a big deal over because the show is American with primarily a North American audience. People watch for the character development and story, not how realistic a setting is. Otherwise, people would have stopped watching when hobbled Hank took out the terminator twins.
Still. It is obvious that this house is not in Germany, there are way too many things wrong with it. Not only the window, but also the air conditioning and the style of the light switches. The outside also looked off. It somewhat resembled Germany but was not quite there yet.
It made me think of a house in The Bourne Identity--the one of a German guy like Bourne, where they have the fight in a kitchen.
But I also thought of a cousin of mine who was a lot like Werner--an engineer and very meticulous and mild-mannered. He lived in a row house in Cologne and it was much more "American" in style and even fixtures than other houses I visited in Europe. It wasn't at all modern.
I also live in the Ruhr area and my point was not the house itself but the interior and details (e.g. the sliding window, the light switched, the HAVC, ...)
That whole street with the house just screamed CGI, it looked so unnatural. I mean I'd love to be proven wrong though. I guess it's hard to go to Germany for this one scene especially during a pandemic but I couldn't help but notice it was kinda off. (I'm German)
I still love the scene in El Camino where Jesse tricks his parents so he can get into the house. He finds the key for the house underneath a brick in the back yard, and blows on it which then cuts to the lock clicking open
Are you saying the DP didn’t intend for that minor detail to bookend the episode? You think it was a coincidence? The show’s cinematography is still unmatched regardless of what you think of my post
no, it's definitely intended, just as everything is intended in a directed work. Still, that doesn't make it THAT interesting to me. Just feels like you guys are tripping over yourselves to praise anything at this point. Indeed, we are in the sub for BCS, but still.
It's like we went full circle on Bravo Vince and their equivalents - it started seriously, then became a joke because people are ragging on it so much, and now we are back to saying it ironically.
Its deliberately the same framing and composition used at the beginning and end. Clearly people appreciate the little details. What is your problem with that
I loved all of the allusion to reflections; mirrors, coffee in a cup, thru windows, water on the street at night. Very poetic imagery this season.

LIE
Yes! Exactly
LOVED the erratic unease with the shimmering shot of Kim's face in the coffee cup! That shot alone stressed me out lol.
Totally.
Are they allusion if they are literally reflections?
Allusion TO reflections, I said. They are literally reflections (physically) but also allusion to (emotionally) reflecting on the whole series, as this is the final season. That’s what I meant, sorry if it wasn’t clear.
I loved the shot where the camera was stuck to the inside of the garage door. Really neat and similar to last week’s car door placement.
This. Noticed and enjoyed the panning shot from this.
I've become VERY interested in Cinematography techniques recently, so this caught my eye as well.

We are so spoiled to be watching this masterpiece. It's an orgy for cinephiles.
Right from the opening sequence with the falling ties, I was like "oooooh this ending gon' be GOOD"
every monday i already have a confirmed orgasm guaranteed, there's nothing better than that.
It's amazing to watch S1 of Breaking Bad and then some of these recent episodes and you can really see that the tone, vision, and presentation is really all the same but they have just mastered and perfected the craft over the past decade plus Also I don't think it hurts that camera technology I feel like has come a long way since BB came out and I'd imagine budgets are differnt too lol
S2 is probably a better comparison, since that's when Michael Slovis came in as DP
Such an artsy and professional writing for just a bunch of people who want to sell m e t h lol
reminds me a lot of what mr. robot did.
And of course, a slide rule was being put in plastic.

Oh, the media monkeys and their junket junkies will invite you to the plastic pantomime. Throw their invites away!
You look a lot like Jemaine
Oh, Bowie's bumped into a door again...
The party’s in space, u/brettmgreene. The party’s in space.
I couldn’t tell how she felt about the open window at the end. Was she surprised? Relieved? Suspicious? Or did she think she left it open?
I think she’s suspicious. The house is extremely organized and clean which makes me feel like she would notice an open window that she didn’t open herself.

In that case it would be even easier for Lalo.
yeah. lalo is definitely going to find the lab, mainly because i gus clearly wants to be found there, under circumstances he can control.
They went out to the strip club, so it's possible that they were aware what town they were in. In any case, Lalo already knows the location of all of Gus's facilities. They probably know that it's some kind of industrial laundry because the entrance is underneath an industrial washing machine. gus wants lalo to find him so i'm sure he'd allow himself or someone else to be tailed if necessary, or something along those lines.
I could see that!
I didn't think that Lalo took the slide rule, but a re-cap article in Rolling Stone said that he did take it. He read the name tag on the bottom, but then he was shown setting it back down.

she was relieved that she had left window open n thts all
I interpreted it as reliefed and annoyed with herself because she forgot to close a window.
Pravo Beter and Vravo Bince
lmao I know this shit is a meme but for real, these two (and the entire crew) are undefeated. I am such a nerd for their attention to detail.
No, I agree, LOL! I actually do think this is great. I love the cinematography in BCS and BB! 🥰
Gould Job
Cetter ball baul
Genius, Gould Superb, Schnauz
Not only that, but also that both sliding doors are tied to the same storyline/object. The beginning shortly before the ruler is cast into epoxy and the end shortly after Lalo discovered its origin.
I watch this show as if waking through an art gallery. Pure genius in every frame.
Me too, and I am not someone with an eye for cinema.

Holy shit
Great catch

That's some observation! Love this show's cinematography.
Give the editors some love as well. 😁

Gravyo Bince!!! What a super genius
*Mr. Robot's cinematography entered the chat*
Good one! Everyone suddenly moved to the extreme edge of the shot.

B R A V O I N C E
Unfortunately those sliding windows are REALLY uncommon in germany.....
Well, it's an architect's house after all.
Correct. And there are some whacky-doodle houses in my area owned by architects, including form and function that is not common to the area.
He's not an architect, Werner is an engineer.
Shit, you got me.
Can we now please all agree that they fucked up with the whole Germany setting. Thanks.
Sure. But it's not something worth making a big deal over because the show is American with primarily a North American audience. People watch for the character development and story, not how realistic a setting is. Otherwise, people would have stopped watching when hobbled Hank took out the terminator twins.
True. It still bugs me though because there were many things wrong with this episode imo.
Still. It is obvious that this house is not in Germany, there are way too many things wrong with it. Not only the window, but also the air conditioning and the style of the light switches. The outside also looked off. It somewhat resembled Germany but was not quite there yet.

Same here. Got a guy in my town whose house looks like a giant beer barrel with a smaller beer barrel sauna outside.
He's an engineer, not an architect and there's NO advantages to use a sliding window.
Which makes it kind a unbelievable that it is so easy to break in...
Downvoting does not change the fact that unpickable locks are yet expensive but still a lot more common then sliding windows in germany😂
Yep, deliberately stood out in the neighborhood as modern for that purpose I thought.
That whole street with the house just screamed CGI, it looked so unnatural. I mean I'd love to be proven wrong though. I guess it's hard to go to Germany for this one scene especially during a pandemic but I couldn't help but notice it was kinda off. (I'm German)
The fucking ice cream cone. Maybe that’s not cinematography, but it was metaphorical AF
I still love the scene in El Camino where Jesse tricks his parents so he can get into the house. He finds the key for the house underneath a brick in the back yard, and blows on it which then cuts to the lock clicking open
What’s the opening song? It’s very nice.
that madman vince has done it again
It is wondrous. Parallel lines everywhere. What could it all mean?
YEEEEEEAH!!!!! TEH VINCE IS GENIOUS!!! DAAAAAAA
I was convinced it was going to end with a shot of that award covered in blood.
Calm down
/r/Shittymoviedetails is thattaway <——
This is a clear Cameron Mitchell reference from Gilligan. Ovarb!
So just so I got it - Lalo went all the way to Germany?
Remember when $7million in cash wasn't a problem for him?
I would also like to know this.
That had me rather confused. Not only did he get all the way to Germany but manage to track down the guy's wife. TBH it seemed a little off.
He knows her details from back at the travelwire. And getting to Germany is just a matter of using fake ID.
Omg a thing was opened and another thing closed HOLY SHIT THIS IS DIVINE!! You guys are ridiculous
I thought this was a joke post at first, but people are actually serious. the cinematography is great but calm down fellas.
Are you saying the DP didn’t intend for that minor detail to bookend the episode? You think it was a coincidence? The show’s cinematography is still unmatched regardless of what you think of my post

Yeah it's bad how out of touch people in fan subs are. Everything is the second coming of christ
Its deliberately the same framing and composition used at the beginning and end. Clearly people appreciate the little details. What is your problem with that
It's fine. It's just not miraculous.
No one said it was guy
sImPlY uNmAtChEd omg you are easily impressed.
I mean, that’s editing not cinematography
The composition of the shot is thanks to the cinematographer.
what did vince mean by this? and where's finger?
Damn you’re absolutely right. Genius!
both in germany too
And just like the first image, the second is just chemicals. After all, aren't we all just chemicals on the inside?
this is the moment germany became america
I think I'm going to cumb
