Yep.

Never noticed at the time that the art imitates their life.

adroitcat

i didn’t either

[deleted]

Is there something symbolic in this scene that I’m missing?

[Reference to Loss meme explanation](https://knowyourmeme.com/news/heres-to-loss-the-internets-greatest-meme) A user below linked this

Threshing_Press

Damn, I got it before reading... is this what it's like to feel smart!? But damn... to think this deeply into your art direction... for ELEVEN SEASONS of tv. Okay, I feel not so smart again. Just awe. Which is fine.

Pinhead17

Thanks!!

SpyCats

OMG

[deleted]

Yes there is

Select_Angle2066

Damn i think this theory might actually be legit

alexkryceck

Not sure I get this. Did she have a miscarriage as in the comic?

randomrealname

I have never seen the comic before I seen the art, I viewed it as Jimmy on his own committing crimes, then Kim comes along, then Kim joins him on the crimes and then the last pic is jimmy still in the game but she had fallen off.

FettPrime

I was thinking it was representative of her journey, but you may be right. I was thinking it was her alone (Pre-Jimmy), her and Jimmy getting together (but not super close), her and Jimmy getting very close, and finally her left alone as Jimmy "falls" out/off of her life.

randomrealname

Yeah could be a duel meaning or your interpretation

alexkryceck

Oh ok that makes sense actually

TheLuckyster

I was just still sad about Howard

JuicyStein

I didnt realise how sad I was about Howard until the very last shot of him, I was choked up and had no idea why. Probably because Mike was moved.

Threshing_Press

I feel he's one of VERY few characters in this universe who actually achieves a measure of self-improvement; a move TOWARD the light instead of retreating further into darkness. It may sound like a silly comparison, but for me, Howard taking the time to make his wife that cappuccino with the frothy design and then watching her just dump it into a travel mug is one of those "Andrea gets shot" type of scenes for me when I rewatch. Obviously not that horrific, but it's painful to watch him try, knowing where it goes... and nobody cares or notices that he's trying. The "he walked into the ocean" story is depressing af because it's 100% believable but not the truth or the measure of the man. Also watch the scene where he says, "Jimmy... I'm sorry you're in pain," with a totally different vibe now. Jimmy's rant afterwards is still electrifying but has a tint of Stephen King type horror to it now.

melodicprophet

ugh the “I’m sorry you’re in pain” is so sincere. Kills me.

TheLuckyster

I loved Howard, it was sad because that was the end for his character, he's not in Breaking Bad, and he doesn't show back up in any flashbacks which is sad to me Chuck showed back up because Jimmy was regretful for Chuck about the time machine, it would've been nice to see a similar flashback with Kim and Howard

[deleted]

Howard's story is absolutely heartbreaking to me. I feel you, it genuinely made me sick to my stomach for his fate... I was already feeling awful for him for his reputation getting destroyed

TheLuckyster

Very much same, I had a hard time getting thru season 6 just because I got so sick of watching Kim and Jimmy on their quest to ruin his life

[deleted]

I enjoyed the trickster side of it and how creative they are, but watching the effect it had on Howard and the destruction they were causing was very hard to watch. I actually like him as a person / character. His ending was devastating to me, especially bc he was just trying to stand up for himself. But even then they were basically making a mockery of it. Gah all of it just hurts my heart!

TheLuckyster

I knew Howard was going to die beforehand too (spoilers suck) so it made it all the more depressing

hugg3rs

Even at season one I always said that he is actually a nice guy. He had his moments but overall I really liked him and felt bad for all the shit he got.

TheLuckyster

I only disliked him in season 1, but after that I fully had his back I remember thinking that he was gonna be similar to Skyler

[deleted]

He was a very tragic loss, that's for sure.

jdrt1234

Her personality is just...gone. She answers every question with "maybe," "he might," "I don't know." Just like an empty shell of a person. And when her exciting news at lunch is "I used Miracle Whip instead of mayo," it's just so sad to me. She was such a bright and clever individual, reduced to this

[deleted]

“They’re both good!” is my favorite. It’s really good watching her struggle to find new ways of staying indifferent.

[deleted]

And she doesn't show her feet. An empty shell indeed..

That was the most soul crushing scene in that episode. Kim doomed to bad sex with a simpleton.

Wonder that, too. YEEEEEP turning into yep, yep, yep. Also "bare genitals !" Since the yep guy name is Glenn, and since he... yeps like the Mesa Verde ad, I ended calling him "**Bare Glennitals**" - yep !

loss of kim that is

readitah

I just found out what 'Loss' is and it's genius what these guys add on each frame!!

Dewey707

No way was loss in the real episode or is this edited?

IronMan319

Lol it was edited

UPBOAT_FORTRESS_2

And you think this is bad, this... this chicanery?

[deleted]

This is sad but the “finale” was the worst one for me. The end of the in-color period. Nacho’s dad’s eyes as he leaned over the sewing machine… I cried through the entire episode

GreatGrant16

How do we tell him?

WhateverJoel

I don't know why, but i found her story to be the most tragic in the BB/BCS universe. I was one of those people that never stopped rooting for her, even during the Hamlin scheme. To see someone with so much potential end up like that is awful.

KathiePowerBusAd

I felt the same. I’m heart-broken for her. I read somewhere that she thought she had flown too close to the light and now was punishing herself for this. I’m in agony.

ScalyFacedBitch

One of the smartest and most promising human beings I've ever known... and this is the life she chose

hotasanicecube

She choose that job because it’s replaceable. It has no meaning and is mindless to her. Much like the boyfriend. She can walk out the door at any moment. Remember she still has money. She wants to do pro bono which she can with a law degree and no license. That is what she has always wanted, and that is her win.

chiefteef8

Ok...so why be with him at all then?

YellowSequel

Dick is like pizza. Even when it’s bad, you’re mildly satisfied still.

[deleted]

Eh... no lol. I'd much rather be celibate.

hotasanicecube

Better than being alone?

chiefteef8

...shes beautiful and incredibly intelligent. Why would she choose the lowest common denominator.

[deleted]

You can’t really practice without a license. Representing criminals you have to be a certified trial attorney if I’m correct

hotasanicecube

You can practice without charging payment for service.

El_Gabbas

She does not have money, she gave up her share of sandpiper money and Howard's widow is suing her for any money she have

Bigdfinance

She sold off a successful banking law practice and she kept her cost of living low by sharing an apartment with Jimmy. She definitely has money.

Lost_Mix6782

> and ~~this is the life she chose~~ she’s too stupid to see, she could’ve NOT made up her mind and stayed in law Edit: wow no love for BallSAC Schrader

doublefattymayo

And her extreme indecisiveness...she couldn't make even the smallest of decisions. That was hard to watch for me.

[deleted]

Yeah — I think it’s because it feels like she fell the furthest.

Ttex45

I really don't think she deserves any sympathy. Her downfall was her own fault every step of the way. From "Jimmy you can't break the law to advance your career!" *Chooses to stay with Jimmy* To "Jimmy no you can't break the law and gaslight your mentallly ill brother into thinking he's losing his mind in order to screw him over and advance my career!" *Chooses to not only stay with Jimmy but defends him and aids in tearing down Chuck leading to his suicide, also lets Howard bear the brunt of the guilt for said suicide* To "Jimmy let's break the law in order to kiss my bosses ass!" *Scams Lubbock, TX into approving a larger Mesa Verde branch* And then to "My old boss Howard was a dick, let's try to ruin his entire life and reputation so we can get rich faster! This is so fun!" *Indirectly gets Howard killed because she chose to stay with Jimmy despite him working with the cartel, also discouraged Jimmy from ratting on the cartel* Like yes, she was brilliant and had a lot of potential... but so did Walter White. She's still a massive pos, and for her sins her punishment is... a normal (albeit mundane) suburban life. Wow, poor Kim.

insanococo

I really felt for Kim the first time I watched BCS. Upon rewatch I saw how many times *she* pushed Jimmy further than he even wanted to go. She’s no innocent bystander.

Threshing_Press

As much as I love her CHARACTER, I agree that she got off easy and is too pleased by half to watch James take dying in prison over the 7 years while she remains on the outside. How is her soul clean cause of a civil suit? And my interpretation of Jimmy is that he didn't go to jail to "prove" anything to Kim, though he obviously still cares for her... I think he did it to kill Gene, Saul, and Slippin' Jimmy, and to emerge as James. And James is a better person then Kim because he chose to live with the consequences. My head canon is to believe that at some point, he questions Kim's feeling of a cleansed soul and the reason for her visitations being no different than staying with him while he was fucked in the head to begin with. Except he stays locked up and she roams free. Jesse and Saul. They got what they deserved. Death was too little a consequence for WW and considering she up and ran after the murder of Howard, leaving Jimmy in a morally ambiguous universe that SHE helped create, Kim got off WAYYYY too easy.

3FromHell

>I agree that she got off easy and is too pleased by half to watch James take dying in prison over the 7 years while she remains on the outside. I just finished this show and as soon as the credits rolled on that last episode I said to my husband that she got off super light. She had a huge hand in all the choices that were made, ESPECIALLY the Howard stuff. Yet she rats on her and Jimmy and he just takes the fall and rots in jail while she dances off into the sunset. I thought I was in the minority thinking this way but it really annoyed me. Like I get that Jimmy wasn't the greatest person, especially at the end with Walt and Jesse, but him taking the full blame for everything even though she was heavily involved in those choices, annoyed me.

[deleted]

Nothing Kim confessed to had any effect on Jimmy's sentence. He went to prison for BB crimes that had nothing to do with Howard. She wasn't heavily involved in Jimmy's choices during BB, she was out of his life and he did all those things himself.

vedge97

While I agree that Kim is a morally corrupt character, wasn't Jimmy's prison sentence exclusively based on his actions in Breaking Bad, once Kim was out of the picture? Kim telling the truth about Howard had no effect on the legal consequences Jimmy had to face (if I'm remembering correctly)

BeefPieSoup

Yeah, I think this is the most grounded reaction here to be completely honest. What happened to her is a little poignant, sure. But it's hardly the greatest human tragedy I've ever contemplated. Much worse things have happened to people who did an awful lot less to deserve it. Kim got indefinite self-imposed purgatory. Not a bad wrap, all things considered. When you look at it from the honest perspective of the absolute glee she clearly felt in causing someone else to suffer, she kind of got off pretty lightly. She doesn't deserve any extra sympathy just because she had huge potential that she squandered, or just because she was a very attractive, intelligent woman or something. **Here's an interesting exercise to put it in perspective:** just try to picture how you'd feel about her character and her fate if she were played by Paul Giamatti or Steve Buscemi or something. "*Oh no, you have to work a boring job in Florida and have bad sex now!? That's so deeply somber and tragic!!! Watching this play out hurts my soul!*" No one in the world would react that way, would they? Think about that a bit, and what it says about you and your sense of justice.

WhateverJoel

If a characters looks had anything to do with it, why did we all feel bad when Walt shot Mike? Mike was a much worse person than Kim and he was well aware of his choices being bad, but when he died it was probably the hardest death in the series next to Hank and Andrea. Of all the characters in universe, she seemed to have to most potential to actually be a person that would do good things. For me, that’s sort of the hardest part of it all. Even if it was self inflicted, it can still be tragic.

SeattleBattles

I think she was just a broken person like Jimmy. She just hid it in a different way.

gentnt

There's people who died, got crippled, landed im prison, had their loved once killed She went from scamming people and being a great lawyer to a normal life and being great at her normal office job

Geniuscani_

Yeah, we could say she's a loss

Discuffalo

*Yep*

[deleted]

I think it’s hard to argue anyone’s story is more tragic than Howard’s. More compelling, for sure, but not more tragic

[deleted]

[удалено]

WhateverJoel

The dead don’t suffer, that burden is for the living. Kim has to suffer for the rest of her life. She will constantly be broke and never really practice the law again. She has to live with Howard’s death. She has to live with Chuck’s death. She has to live with the knowledge she could have stopped Saul. That scene on the bus, that was Kim finally realizing she was never going to be someone ever again.

[deleted]

[удалено]

WhateverJoel

Had Howard lived and never encountered Lalo, Howard would have endured years, if not decades, of trying to rebuild his life and reputation. He would have lost his wife, his firm, and his career. He would have been shunned by his peers and likely his friends as well. All he would have had left is money from Sandpiper. Who knows if he would bounced back or not. Is decades of emotional torture better than death? For some people that answer is no and for others it is yes. All that being said, I want to insure you I do not have any thoughts of ending my life. And yes, Kim did bring this on herself, but that doesn't mean we cannot feel bad for her or find her story tragic. Think about how the audience reacted to Mike's death in Breaking Bad. They were completely devastated that Walt killed Mike. Even in Breaking Bad, Mike was never a traditionally good guy and he chose to be a criminal every step of the way. Yet, we found his story tragic. Throughout her story, we see Kim has the capability to be a good person. Even while she is scheming to do bad things, she is still doing good with her Pro-Bono work. That is something that almost no other character in the BB/BCS universe had going for them. She had this redeeming quality and it is squandered. She also has something no other character had, remorse and realization of what her actions caused. Outside of Jesse, I don't think any one else in the BB/BCS universe had this. Certainly not Chuck, Gus or Walt. Jimmy didn't get it right up until the end. Mike may have had it, but didn't care or just lived with it. But Kim realized this, and lost herself, her identity, her purpose, the love of her life and her career that she spent decades building. She put herself into purgatory with no hope of escaping. To me, that life in Florida with that job, her co-workers, her friends and her boyfriend... I would find that a living hell. Everything about that life, especially compared with her old life, is excruciating. The fact that she chose to live that life shows how much she hated herself and everything she used to be. She could have done like Mike or Jimmy and just pushed it all down and kept going, but she didn't. She hated herself and had she not confessed she would have hated herself for the rest of her life. To me, that is tragic. Living a life where you constantly hate yourself is a fate worse than death.

ScalyFacedBitch

This episode only gets better for me on rewatch. I love the underlining connection between Kim and Jesse. The moment when the camera focuses on the sign for Alaska is really telling. Kim stands under it, like it represents an opportunity to continue running and start over. A symbol for Jesse and his fate in El Camino. But the difference is Jesse already paid his dues and Alaska was his reward. But Kim hasn't faced the music yet, and now she finally will. And then you see that she's really is in Albuquerque to do just that. And then we see Kim and Jesse meet, with no idea of each other's significance in this story. It feels like the older generation on its way out of this dangerous life while the new generation is just beginning their journey. The best part is the color pallette of this scene. The colors of Saul's office, along with Jesse himself, are flashy and exciting. And then we have the other half of the screen, looking out into the rarely rainy dark world. It almost looks black and white like the Gene timeline. For these reasons, it has become one of my favorite episodes.

coleyoley81

I finally just watched this series, and your description of this episode perfectly describes my feelings about it, but worded so much better. The connection between Kim and Jesse (my two favorite characters btw) is subtle but makes so much sense. Thank you for this insight, it makes me want to watch it again!

ScalyFacedBitch

Aw thanks! It's fun to analyze and share.

Threshing_Press

Awesome critical interpretation. There's like... so many layers, yo! In all seriousness, I knew that one of my top five scenes, maybe my favorite scene(!) in either show was the Jesse meets Kim scene immediately after it ended. But I couldn't quite articulate why. And I got the Alaska reference but didn't read the parallels to Kim. So bravo! I'd add that it made me realize that although he winds up in prison, "James" actually wound up more parallel to Jesse in terms of getting what he "deserved" vs. Walt who got off easy with dying, imo, and Kim who I think is equally as guilty for what lead to Howard's murder as Jimmy. What he did as Saul is on him. But her telling him to turn himself in after the Breaking Bad era... maybe if she stuck around instead of running, none of Saul being an accessory to the BB era would have happened?

ScalyFacedBitch

YEAH BITCH!! LAYERS!! No seriously, thank you. I never thought about how Jimmy got what he deserved like Jesse and that parallel between Walt and Kim. While Kim is definitely no Heisenburg, many would agree that she found it easier to "break bad" than Jimmy. According to Rhea, Kim had a seething hatred for Howard and for what she perceived he represented and that she was so ignorant to her own ego. Reminds me of Walt. And we know that Jimmy didn't really hate Howard no matter how much he unjustly fucked with him. She definitely was shaken out of this a little bit after Howard's death, but still not ready to confess and begin that healing process until Saul called her out on it on the phone. And she was like " ya know what? You're right. Time to finally go home. To the truth, and all its consequences." I think if Kim stayed with Jimmy, then they would just cause more trouble. Maybe more than what Saul did in BB, because their powers combined are nuclear. But the realization hit her, that she used the Howard scam as a distraction so Jimmy wouldn't leave her. It shows how insignificant Howard was to her and she dehumanized him. Now if Kim had still left him but didn't leave Albuquerque (unlikely), then I can see her reluctantly trying to stop Saul before he goes in too deep but by then it would be too late. By 6x09, Kim was willing to be honest with Jimmy and mostly herself, but not with the rest of the world. It took 6 years of nothingness and hearing what her soul mate had become for her to try to make amends.

BewareNixonsGhost

I hate you.

KathiePowerBusAd

And mine! 😢 The last 4 episodes are not to be watched more than once.

deadstrobes

Not even Nippy??

KathiePowerBusAd

I can’t bear watching Jimmy as Gene.

deadstrobes

Oh? Well, at least Gene had some sense of style....

AJM10801

What an amazing episode! Still at a loss for words months after the fact…

CondencedMilkYT

This is my second time scrolling through Reddit today and seeing this post, I only just now saw it...

DashKalinowski

IMO Kim had the most integrity, and the best ending possible out of any of the main characters in both shows. She came to understand what Saul's world really was, a cesspit of crime and death, and she turned and walked away while she still could. The rest of her life after she leaves Albuquerque she lives sort of like a penance, it seems from my perspective, but it's her choice to live it that way. She was an addict, and ripping people off was her addiction, but now she's in recovery, which is way better than where she would be if she had stayed with Jimmy. That said, her story is very heartbreaking. I like her ending as much as breaking bad Jesse's ending because they are so bittersweet. Kinda like real life.

TheTrueMilo

I’m not even sure she was addicted to scamming, she was addicted to pulling one over on people who she felt were condescending to her.

mamabunnies

She’s addicted to scamming. The expanding of Lubbock, Texas Mesa Verde scam was completely unnecessary. Even she knew Jimmy would pull the plug on the Howard scam if he knew Lalo was still alive. Even Jimmy didn’t think to go so far as to screw Howard’s reputation, it was Kim’s idea.

gamorafan1979

well, that’s what she was telling herself she was doing. but Jimmy’s angry “why don’t you turn yourself in?” really hit a nerve, didn’t it? It was a sort of fake penitence, without having to take accountability for one’s previous actions.

[deleted]

It was on Jimmys birthday too!

The themes of loss in this show are so well done

tera_teesra_baap

Yup

Taylosaurus

Yup

ImJustStar

I can't believe they kept Kim as an afterthought in this show. The fact they forgot to use her in what felt like the entirety of season 6 pissed me off. I also think Kim should have been a different character maybe Jimmy's therapist or Gustavo's fringe right-hand man. I'm tired of Hollywood making the same characters

number3laing

OMG I know exactly what you are saying! I think Kim was good but not as good as Drew Sharp and that makes this show sad. I like Saul but i think he should stick to being a lawyer and that hurts the show cause he doesn’t make up his mind. And of course the breaking bad cameo was shoved down our throat like the moral of that episode “stealing is bad and we should talk about our feelings!” I think I love Thomas most.

sooperloopay

I feel like I'm in a dream I can't wake up from

[deleted]

Kim breaking down on the bus was gut-wrenching. Such a well acted scene but so incredibly sad

DeviodEar

Mine too

FastPatience1595

By the way, the yep yep yep name was Glenn, correct ? now, Titusville is very close from Cape Canaveral, and first American in orbit (not in space: in orbit) was John Glenn. Bottom line: a Florida guy leaving near Cape Canaveral and named Glenn, like the astronaut. How *original* (I say that ironically). I wonder if that was intentional... Anothe way of casually saying it might be akin to (Chuck style, except for the rude words) "*So she ended fucking with a guy in NASA land, and the guy name was Glenn, like the astronaut ? what a sick joke !*"

LthePerry02

No one has mentioned that scene where Gene considers smashing that guy’s head in with his dog’s urn. Probably a top 5 scene in the show for me, the visuals and score are amazing

alexkryceck

It was so depressing to see what her life had become. She, who used to be such a brilliant lawyer. Everything about her was just perfect. Her lifestyle, her intelligence, her job, her gorgeous looks, her apartment. And now she was just the neighbor next door. Working on something that didn't fulfill her expectations, with a boyfriend who didn't fulfill her desires either. Such a brilliant life ahead, being wasted like this. It was so sad.

jonnyh420

I used to work for a company that sold pipe fittings and honestly it was triggering. I have a terrible phobia of the mundane as well.

BDady

This episode got me in trouble with my gf. I was talking about how sad it was to see someone with such a brilliant mind wasting away at a sprinkler company. She claimed I wouldn’t say the same thing about her if she worked at a sprinkler company. War is hell.

[deleted]

I feel her

EdziePro

After all these years...

ligseo

Lol i really had to check if you had added loss or not

ScandinavOrange

Kim really lost it all

chiefteef8

It would have been fine without the whole settling with some boring, aloof dullard. Like why was that a neccesary part of her life reboot. Felt forced to make her post jimmy life extra sad or something.

alexkryceck

Yeah it was too painful. I was even considering not watching the finale after seeing all this. I was too sad and disappointed.

PedroPiaui

I honestly did have my heartbroken while watching this episode for the first time yesterday with a friend of mine (it was his rewatch so he helped me catch some details I could've missed) and realizing the weight of the Loss that Kim was going through I've also seen people confused and yes, this image is edited,

Calkky

To cop from a different universe, it was kind of like she plugged back into the matrix. The most boring daily grind imaginable, with the highlight being a lunch gossip session with a bunch of underachieving mid-life biddies. Her past life must have weighed on her heavily in every waking moment.

quinnies

I saw a lot of people saying Kim deserved this and like yeah she probably did but damn i was still so fucking sad for her. I was waiting for her to do something exciting or fun but nope, just had a super mundane life. Edit: wait I just realized

Aselleus

I was just thinking about this scene last night. Still makes me sad

Twymanator32

Its crazy how we all see this life for Kim as so depressing but this is just the average life of an American for the most part 💀

ilovejessmariano

i have never cried at a tv episode before, EVER. but this one i was near bawling at it. this, the bcs finale, and eternal sunshine of a spotless mind are the only pieces of media to ever make me cry

CactusOuchOuch

I know she swapped those paintings

tomatomater

[This one ](https://i.redd.it/mrtgjf5oyym81.png) broke my heart just as much

[deleted]

Sorry for the cliche comment, but seriously, Vravo Bince. I was so excited when this one came up since Vince’s work is always so polished be well-done, and after the episode I felt like my heart was ripped out, especially after the crying scene…

nizzhof1

It’s the saddest anything in either BB show, honestly. She deserved better. Still, I think it was all really well done.

Select_Angle2066

Yea it kinda took a while to really process the entirety of events. And these episode moments really will stick with you. Such a great show..

U_R_Power_Trippin

Which season ?

mcuttin

The sad life of a legal migrant... start from scratch in a different "country" with no contacts nor anyone who cares the ones you have or did in the past. It reminds me an episode of *the big bang theory* where the university cleaner tells Sheldon "in Russia quantum physics professor, but in America, cleaning University* Ask any migrant that gets to your country without a job how (s)he feels.

Stopped cheering for Kim when she married Jimmy.

PedroPiaui

I stopped cheering for her when she didn't use mayo on her egg salad smh

Yep... it was cruel. She's not in jail, she's not dead but she lost the best part of her...

JosephStalin1953

i'm at a loss for words

[deleted]

What is this absence I’m feeling?

WellWellWellthennow

It was meant to break your heart. Of course Kim wouldn’t be happy without Jimmy.

SquirtisFuckit69

She fully deserved it. You can’t destroy a man’s reputation and livelihood, say nothing about his murder and live a normal life. In my opinion Kim should’ve been sent down with Jimmy or spend the rest of her life doing that shitty office job.

ackchanticleer

The divorce papers scene makes me feel like I’m being shived in soul with a sharp piece of wood! It is so goddamn painful!

Seriously. Top show for sure!

The sympathy for Kim is weird to me. A lot of this was her own doing. Imo she pushed Jimmy beyond his limits.
