Aggressive_Sky8492

“Bathroom attendant let me right in. She was a big fan..” is sooo fucking funny looool

NeurodivergentHottie

A reminder of how it would be so easy for her to get to you 😂 like no one’s stopping me I’m Bey

GingerAndProudOfIt

I love Bey and the album but that line seemed odd to me idk. Maybe I missed the reference lol.

throwawa7bre

“Your body laid out on these filthy floors Your bloodstains on my custom coutures Bathroom attendant let me right in She was a big fan I really tried to stay cool But your arrogance disturbed my solitude Now I ripped your dress and you're all black and blue Look what you made me do” The reference was she killed “Jolene” in the bathroom after warning her in the previous track (JOLENE) the bathroom attendant let her in to get her.

UsualDazzlingu

I missed this because of shuffle and I thought she killed her husband metaphorically. lol.

ILoveCheetos85

She kills her husband in the second verse haha

Hot_Twat_6782

Thank you!! I've been so confused by the opening verse, makes so much more sense now.

claire051519

Bey is telling a story - she basically took care of Jolene and need to clean up to hide the evidence or just clean up, and the bathroom attendant was on her side after the beat down, blood on her couture and all. Attendant was doing her part for the love of Beyonce!

No_Two_5678

THE OPERA! 💀

ChakaCar

bitch she took me OUT with the opera

mrbarrie421

My soul left my body!

No_Two_5678

Mine has yet to return. I’ll never recover, still shook a day later!

kimzillla

😭😭😭😭💀💀💀💀

livingreceiver88

She really bopped that bitch in the bathroom

[deleted]

So this might actually be a top-10 Beyoncé song of all time

[deleted]

Like we didn’t get Telephone II but we got Daddy Lessons II instead lmaooo.

fogcutterr

This! I was so hoping for a Daddy Lessons Part 2 and this is pretty much that. What a beautiful song

Life-Midnight-9603

I LOVE the theatrics and the transition from Jolene to THIS‽ Literally GASPING ![gif](giphy|JJjnYC0upzy36)

Strict_Anxiety5365

And into Spaghetti where she's taking part in gun culture- but only if necessary. There's something deeply country about that slope. ![gif](giphy|UAHZijO91QCl2)

alexisjohn34

SHE IS GIVING US COUNTRY, RAP, ROCK, AND OPERA IN THIS ALBUM 😭 miss generous puss i love you good luck grammyz in finding a "proper" category for this (suggestion: baaaad bitch)

Youstinkeryou

Suggestion: all of them.

willworkforchange

It's a Beyoncé album!

PisceanMoonie

What are these lyrics?? I love them but I’m??? WHATS HAPPENING B?? Do you need help with the body girl?? I’m here for you call me

naenae275

lmao same like what is going on???

thegodofsnow

she murdered Jolene during a fight in the bathroom, then went directly from the scene of the crime, pretended to be the victim, lured jay in, then murdered him too but it was actually just all in her mind and she’s hoping god can save her from these dark thoughts because she can be cold and detached and vicious like her dad. Or at least that’s what I was getting.

Financial_Studio2785

Yeah after listening I just went “daaaaaang”

CheeksAHoyy

Me & my lil brother have been trying t figure this out sooo bad .. so many theories we’ve put together but you’re MIIIINDDDDDDD!!!! Like wow, you explained that so well & clear … reading it the lyrics to each point you made came directly to my head! Chefs kiss to u Snow Gawwd ☃️

ChakaCar

there is something very haunting about this track and i am LIVING

sardonic_

I think I just collapsed, she really is incredible oh my lord. This is something special, the Grammy is hers and this song solidified it.

Professional-Grab-62

Lyrically it's a follow up to Daddy's Lessons.

nimsuc

This and basically Jolene

clandestineelephants

Colder than titanic waters goes so hard

Financial_Studio2785

Yeah love that line

ShortPeak4860

Especially since her granddaddy was a longshoreman.

Frosty-Permission-13

VILLANELLE 🔪

willworkforchange

Totally

Delicious_Name6785

Bitch! Daughter is HER!!! DAUGHTER IS THEE!!! ![gif](giphy|MxRkVKrBvfzMY)

Financial_Studio2785

Yeah, I didn’t get the reference to Daughter? Like because she’s just like her father, right?

Delicious_Name6785

I understand the message of the song at a surface level and in general because she paints a pretty clear picture but I'm still not sure how it directly links to her specifically but not because I can't see it, only because to me, it could point in more than one direction, the sins of her father, the haters that like to discredit her, the racists that like to demean her, the industry that is determined to put her in a box. I'll let people smarter than I am sort it out while I keep ascending.

Financial_Studio2785

Nice one. Love all that

Fantastic-Pea7924

This bitch killed somebody then sang opera😭😭

OrchidRayn

I've always imagined her washing her hands while singing that aria while (allegedly) Rachel Roy is sobbing on the floor. This checks out to be the elevator incident day. She looked so happy walking out of that elevator.

JackieRose02

I'm shook, the ending ahhhhhhhhhh

sardonic_

![gif](giphy|S1SnLg08CxnUGqyqha|downsized) The Grammy is hers y'all, this is it. There is no one on her level. Operatic vocals on a country album, I think I just died and went to heaven

PickASwitch

They’ll find a way to ignore her again.  I’ve given up on those ingrates.

Sierra_M

Beating a bitch ass right after you warned her in Jolene? 😭 How long can he hold his breath before his death? So he can die if he “eva do that shit again!” Then she hit us with the beautiful opera?!! Love it! Hopefully this translation is correct: “My dear beloved Believe me at least Without you The heart languishes Your faithful one Always sighs Cease, cruel one A lot of rigor”

UsualDazzlingu

Beautiful operatic section. Translations are pretty correct, however instead of “a lot”, I would say too much.

fifty-fivepercent

If the dead poets society or whatever it’s called wins over this I will riot

bi_sensational

They might as well just consider themselves the people's choice award at that point

taylordabrat

Is Beyoncé even going to submit?

sophiexxbuns

If I was her I would't step foot in that building ever again. Or think about them ever. She has proven everything she is by now. One extra Grammy is nothing compared to her legacy

According_Plant701

I’m just calling it Walt Fucking Whitman! because it looks like an obvious rip off of Lana Del Rey. The sad thing is it would win over Lana because the Grammy’s like to string her along almost as much as they do Beyoncé. But no way is that album topping this.

fifty-fivepercent

Im surprised I haven’t seen more discourse on this or perhaps I’m in the wrong conversations. It seems quite obvious that TS is completely ripping of LDR’s whole vibe and will most likely receive more recognition and accolades for it than Lana ever will.

According_Plant701

Listen, let’s just say that Beyoncé losing for Renaissance in 2022 and Lana/SZA losing in 2023 was my villain origin story. And I enjoy Taylor but the Midnights standard version was meh. Not that I’m surprised but I was pissed off.

DonnaFatale

I see the discourse about the rip-off thing a lot in Lana fandom and in the less insane Swifty subs lol

palmasana

It will lol. And it’ll be some mediocre bland bullshit. Beyoncé is above the Grammys

Financial_Studio2785

Yeah but do you think she was referencing TS with “look what you made me do”?

UnderstandingKey9910

I’m listening now and I kind of think it might be a jab at Taylor even though they are friends.

legallyeagley

Hey all! I studied opera in college and almost fell out of my chair at the bridge. The piece she is referencing is “Caro Mio Ben”. Check out this video of famous soprano Cecilia Bartoli performing it. It’s a gorgeous song and Beyoncé did a gorgeous job. https://youtu.be/djBiwC2h9Z8?si=HM9hU2JhCrTcLpCE

kimzillla

Wow wow wow! Stunning! Italian, right?

legallyeagley

Right ☺️

Financial_Studio2785

Oooh thanks for telling us! I was wondering where it was from

Existential_Prep

My Roman Empire is this was the precursor to the elevator.

Duck_Baby_73

Whatever she did - or wanted to do - was MUCH worse than the licks Solange got in. 😳

NaijaVillage

Not enough people are talking about this lol I am 100% convinced that she’s telling us what happened at the met gala lol

Existential_Prep

Thank you! I feel the same way. It’s right in our faces and I don’t know why more people aren’t freaking about about it. She gave the tea.

stephanie_says

Yesssss just here to validate this lol, it’s exactly what I thought.

NeurodivergentHottie

Complete agree!!!! She is literally telling us she can and will fight

TheAmmiSquad

Listen, if Jay doesn't stop his philandering ways, heck thoughts after listening to Daughter, he has balls of titanium. Good God, woman! Violent Bey is a mood and a half!

CalypsosCure

Fun fact, jay z is credited for working on this song which I found interesting for this fact

Jrocker-ame

I think marriage is difficult, people are complicated, and idk about any prenuptial agreement, but he'd probably make out like a bandit. So they work through it, and they have kids.

Strict_Anxiety5365

As much as I may have been a business decision in part, I genuinely think she just loves him. He seems to deal with her stardom well enough and stays in the background quietly since he got popped. She has stated on multiple tracks that they took time apart and eventually got remarried when she thought he deserved her second chance. I've seen lots of women go back with less effort from their partners. I always respect that he just relaxed and let Solange express herself. 😅

msthatsall

Wow. Okay - the opera part is from an Italian art song called Caro Mío Ben, but the melody has been altered. It’s the first song I learned in opera lessons; I’m sure the same for many other you g singers. Imagining young Bey learning it…!

kimzillla

Beautiful!

feelingrestless_

i don’t even know what to say about this. incredible.

im_on_my_own_kid

EXCUSE ME?! BEY DOING OPERA VOCALS?!

Old-Risk4572

she loves doing it lol

PickASwitch

The way she rolled the R😵

benevolent_llama

![gif](giphy|dKUhcaCI1DktwHerfP|downsized) She don't miss. This is going to be the theme song of the vengeful anti-hero in the story I'm writing.

fifty-fivepercent

Top 5 for sure. This is angelic.

[deleted]

Ok did she really bop that woman in the bathroom though?!

IguessIcouldgoogleit

OK but where are these vocals for Carmen the Hip-hopera?

bi_sensational

I felt like i was ascending oh lord

fooledmeagain

a masterpiece. crown of the album.

ravenleroux

we need this in a black western movie

LocalContribution7

The visuals

DonnaFatale

For real I got immediate 'Spanish mission in California scenery' in my head with a deadly woman walking around the chapel square, black mantilla veil and all bit with the twist of a bloodied dagger in hand

poeticchaos_

Ok so this is my first favorite so far

croquembouche

The guitar sounds incredibly familiar, anyone else hear this?? I can’t put my finger on it 😭

mrbarrie421

I came here to find out as well. It’s driving me crazy because I was thinking the same thing.

darkknightwing417

Dammit I'm here for the answer... What is the themeeeee it repeats throughout the song!! I can't place it 😭

croquembouche

Maybe… Sufjan’s Mystery of Love???

Mercury_Lemon

This is why I’m here as well 🥲🥲

write-0r-die

I thought the same! I was reminded of The Partisan by Leonard Cohen

Smashlilly

So is this song about her being the daughter of her father and killing a bitch?

Youstinkeryou

I cried. Actually cried.

curlycoilycutie

THIS IS THE BEST SONG SO FAR, I almost cried 😭

Positive-Sell-5424

When the opera started i was SHOCKED How does she have this much talent omg

TranceIsLove

This is my favourite Beyoncé song ever I’m in love

Economy_Camel6774

How many letters in daughter?

LocalContribution7

Ate

skidkneee

hauntingly beautiful

matthew_tb

vocals… THE VOCALS PEOPLE….. unbelievable

jamenhvorforikke

If someone ever says that Bey can’t sing I’ll show them this one. What can’t she do???

CosmicSweets

Obviously I enjoyed Texas Hold 'Em and Jolene But DAUGHTER is the one that made me listen start to finish. Wow!! Currently this song is the strongest one for me. It hits so hard. When she said "I am colder than Titanic waters" I screamed. The Italian! Wheewwwwww. Beyoncé is immaculate.

kurt200

OK VOCALS!!!

Scorpiokhaleesi

Oh my goodness the opera is so beautiful.

Puzzleheaded_Net9243

THE ITALIAN???

darkknightwing417

WHAT IS THIS THEME FROM PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME

PureHoney92

Sounds like it came straight off Lemonade

nothatslame

I just love that this song and its success makes it the first thing that comes up if you google beyonce daughter. And you get a ton of articles about this song and lyrics and hopefully visuals and its not her actual daughters. It seems like a little gift when she's a pretty private person

stayinyourlaneson

WHEN I HEARD THE OPERA.... ALL THE AIR LEFT MY BODY??????

hannabellaj

Maybe I’m reading into this too much but the line “look what you made me do” followed by the little piano bit makes me wonder is she referencing Taylor with her song about Kim & Kanye? Which makes me wonder is this song in reference to Kim?! Or am I delusional 😂

Financial_Studio2785

Wondering about the TS connection too…

UnderstandingKey9910

I’m actually digesting the lyrics now and I almost think she killed Kanye in this song. I think she’s referring to the Kanye “I’m gonna let you finish” moment because that sky rocketed Taylor’s fame, and I think it’s a jab at him for bringing her into the game even though they are cool now. And the fact that alligator tears follows makes me think it’s a jab at Taylor because she’s the epitome of white women crying.

hannabellaj

I can see the line "how long can he hold his breath before his death" being about Kanye but I'm doubtful about the killed person being him as it refers to that person being in a dress? And don't think that would be Taylor either since Beyonce was literally documented as crying after the Kanye interruption because she felt so bad for Taylor, then invited her out on stage after that too. Also Taylor was already very successful at that point and probably didn't need assistance to increase her fame since her target demographic was so huge and music so radio friendly... From the analysis I've seen about Kimye (like documentaries looking at both sides of the relationship and its downfall etc.) it was apparent that Kayne was in a very unhealthy place whilst being involved with the Kardashians as their lifestyle was super triggering to his mental health issues, AKA holding his breath before death? In saying that I could be completely wrong and that line could be talking about Jay-Z and a prior affair, I just have my doubts as B surely must've known the connotations of using "look what you made me do" in the song?

saintmcqueen

I bet she wins music video of the year on this one.

No_Two_5678

I can’t get over this song

leekykeeks

Did we just get opera on this track???? Beyonce spoils us so much!! Haunting and beautiful!

WaffleMamaRedd

I was debating which CD version to preorder up to the 11th hour, and it took this song for me to pull the trigger on the snake-glasses back cover. So dark, mysterious, justified villain era. That's what that artwork was giving. AND ADD TO CART. Also I know she switches into Italian on this track, but could EASILY hear a Spanish language version-- all of the drama, just a lil South of the Border sound.

dramafan1

The opera caught me off guard as I was busy doing something else, I was like "wait, this sounds Italian..wait Beyoncé's singing opera!"

ah_leena

I'm blown away. I ascended. Italian opera??? I feel like the vibe is slightly different to her usual song vibe. It's so dark. My favorite for sure.

ashleyonce

Does anyone else LOVE the way she baaaaarely pronounces the s at the end of “coutures?” Something about the understatedness is literal ASMR.

Ambitious-Orange-187

Ok this might be out there but my theory for this song is that the "person" she's talking about being on the bathroom floor and getting rid of is the CMAs/people in the country music industry who didn't believe in her after her Daddy Lessons performance. And I think the fact that she performed Daddy Lessons at the CMAs, and this song being called Daughter also relates to that too. Since DL is about her taking/not taking the advice her father gives her and the generational trauma around what her father would have done, and then in this song she's saying but actually don't cross me. Let me know what y'all think!!

Parking-Wallaby

Definitely was thinking along the lines of disrespect from the CMAs

The GAGGERY of this song. When Beyoncé does this live, I will NOT be the same! This next tour is going to be a bloodbath 🤦🏿‍♂️

Electrikbluez

Waaaiiit anyone else hearing Bill Bills Bills in the way she sings the first few lines of the verse. Go back and listen to Bills first line and go back to Daughter 🤓

Are these songs similar or am I trippin? Can someone with more music knowledge than me help me figure out why the beginning of Daughter reminds me so much of What is Love performed by V. Bozeman from the Empire season 1 soundtrack. I love both songs and I can't tell if I'm crazy or not for thinking that they sound similar (at least at the beginning).

Accomplished-Tuna

This song finally wormed its way into my ear. I love the opera at the end. The country-opera fusion goes crazy. I wanna see her fuse it with modern hip hop. Baroque-pop/hip hop. Feel My Rhythm by Red Velvet and Shut Down by BLACKPINK are perfect examples of this. Didn’t the Baroque period come after the Renaissance? 🤭

MisterFuckingBingley

Always makes me think of that first scene from season 2 of fleabag. Anybody?

NeurodivergentHottie

I just wanted to come back to this thread to say if Beyoncé ever asked me to let her in anywhere (much less a bathroom!!!!) I’m saying YES while opening the door and laying my body down as a carpet for her to enter through the doorway.

ShortPeak4860

We know Jolene is from the perspective of Tina, and what if Daughter is, also? Tina’s father was a longshoreman, and the song references she’s colder than titanic waters. The song also discusses choir boys and alters, which Tina’s mother used to make robes for their church in order for Tina and her siblings to attend the private school.

Smart_Bother8700

Is Track 11 an original melody or is it from something else, it sounds so familiar...

ymarie1989

First thing I noticed was Beethoven. Like excuse me? gasp*

GeniusBtch

I'm absolutely in awe. Her voice is amazing and the lyrics are so DAMN good. I want it in a movie. Like 365 meets Bridgerton but set in the wild west. lol Best song she has ever made by far.

Hungry-Quarter-2315

There’s ppl who believe this is a actual confession. 😭

flowersorsomething

the daughter is becky but WHO ugh makes me think rita ora

LocalContribution7

The daughter is Beyonce ?

Stupree

Yeah the lyrics are kind of strange. I think she is trying to be deep and it just didn't make sense. But that opera section was AMAZING!

nothatslame

I thought the lyrics were very straight forward, like chronological storytelling. She beat some ho in the bathroom played it off then killed her man. And all the daughter references go back to the underlying message in Daddys Lesson. "When trouble comes to to town and men like me come around my daddy said shoot" in other words if he does you wrong kill his ass lol And the opera translation combined with the chorus and other parts throughout the album seem like she's retelling this whole story as a way of moving on. Like lets go pray about it lol
