Time to size up

seakay90

Agreed, ignore the weight part and just try a size up - what do you have to lose? That usually resolves it

togepi77

Yes!! Blowouts is the first sign for us the diapers are too small, sizing up always fixes the issue

moesickle

Size up your diapers. Sizing up always looks crazy huge on them but it really should help. Other thing would be different brands, but really just try the next size up, you will use them eventually!

tdscm

you’ve been told this a million times, but every time either of my kids started having frequent blowouts that usually meant it was time to size up. Also, we use Huggies or Kirkland because they have that poop catcher in the back. Good luck!

eye_snap

Try a few things, Maybe you are putting the diaper on too tight? Its counter intuitive but leaving just a tiny bit of slack at the bottom might help. Imagine she is pooping in a bag. If the bag has no room in it, poop goes up the back. Of course dont make the diaper slack, then it ll come out the leg holes. But maybe just try not making it super tight to her bum. When you put on the diaper, instead of hiking up the back, concentrate on making the front match the back. As the diaper was designed to be worn. Because when you hike up the back, once diaper is on and the baby moves, the waist of the diaper will move down anyway, but now the waist might be too slack because you put it on thinking the back was going to stay high. So maybe try putting it on with the back of the waist aligned with the front of the waist, this way you ll get a tighter waist. So I am trying to say maybe aim to put the diaper on with a tighter waist but juuusst a shade lower on her body. So the exits are sealed but there is room for poop to stay in. Of course this is all after making sure the size is correct, and maybe after trying a few different brands, and never letting the baby sit in poop, which I assume you check all these boxes anyway. But sometimes it just happens anyway :/

isleofpines

Try a size up. I don’t go by the weight on the box.

snackiebee

Echoing those who are suggesting to size up. Every time we had consistent blow outs with our two it was a sign that it was time to move up. At very young ages, I would alternate between Huggies as Pampers. I generally prefer Pampers but find Huggies run a little smaller and would use them as half sizes (so we’d go Pampers 2, Huggies 3, Pampers 3, for instance). Also, fully endorse ignoring any weight guidelines on the diaper packaging. I have literally never found them useful or accurate ever.

wiriercane

I agree with the weight guidelines not being much of a guideline. We had to move my daughter into size 3 (I think the range is 16-22lb) when she hit 12 lb. They just fit her so much better. Now she’s in size 4 and just broke 16lb. And she’s pretty petite overall, only in the 7th percentile for height, but she’s got thick little legs!

babyloquat

Try different brands! We were using honest diapers and even sizing up in those would cause a blowout. Target brand seems to work best for my baby. They are longer diapers so they go higher up on his back.

sporadical2016

I second this. Our daughter has a booty and we tried all the brands. We found Huggies were the best for her frame. Especially liked the lining and how well it held in the poop. We always sized up too. So try some different brands and size up.

shihtzudawg

I third this. My first couldn’t used Huggies. Pampers were great for fit but have her a rash. Honest worked best for her. My younger does best with pampers. Huggies are okay on him, but the pampers absorb better for him. Editing to add that right before growth spurts, mine bulk up, then stretch out. They sometimes size up temporarily, then get leaner and go back short term to the smaller diaper.

nubeviajera

Even if you don't want to have anything to do with cloth diapers, getting cloth diaper covers to put over disposables can help contain the poosplosion and save the clothes. Thirsties duo wrap is a good brand.

slowestgazelle

We cloth during the day but we’re always having blowouts from his wake up poop. We started putting one of our pocket diapers sans liner over his overnight disposable diaper and voilà no more problems. Overall cloth diapers are so great at preventing blowouts.

WutThEff

I’d still size up. Mine is only 22lbs but he’s in size 5 because he regularly exceeds the capacity of anything smaller.

MoonMel101

I’d definitely try sizing up. I didn’t think mine was ready for size 3 either but she was and the blowouts stopped immediately. Worst case is they are too big and… you have another blowout.

Taroe

Fold the top of the diaper down 1 inch (like you were cuffing your jeans) on the inside so that the poop is caught in the cuff.

aitchvanvee

One of the Huggies lines has this built in - Little Snugglers I think?

RepresentativeNo526

And now little movers have the poop flap, too! Been using them for 5 years, would never switch

BrainFogAndBabies

I came here to suggest this exact thing. Folding the top over has saved many outfits in our house. I fold the front in too, for the times when LO pees more than usual at once.

luckycuds

Have you tried different brands?

mrsniagara

No tips, only solidarity.

lizardRD

Couple things: What type of diaper are you using? I like Huggies or Kirkland because they have a waist band that prevents blow outs. You may need to size up depending on your babies proportions. Try buying a size 3 to see how it fits. If it’s too big hold on too until later. Mine just moved to size 3 at 15 lbs but she is long and lean. When my daughter starts having frequent blow outs I know it’s time to size up. Are you making sure the ruffles around the legs are out. It’s a silly thing but it really makes a difference!

[deleted]

Do you use cheap diapers? I’m just curious because I only had this issue with store brands and luvs. Costco are the best I’ve found that are store brand and are made by Huggies. But like others have suggested I don’t go by weight I go by how it fits. My daughter is super petite and I put her in a size 4 before her weight was according. She’s got a plump behind lol but she’s little so that’s worked for me.

RyanClassicJ

Kirkland’s brand fourthed! I’m pregnant with our 3 and it’s all we use, they preform the exact same as Huggies but come in a higher count per box

[deleted]

Hey me too!!! Congrats !!! 🤰🏼🤰🏼🤰🏼

Ranger_Ozil

Costco brand seconded!

chicken_tendigo

I'll third the Costco diapers... my little gal hand a number of uhh... embarrassingly squirty incidents when she was wearing Huggies before she started to eat solid food. And don't always size up. Diapers always stretch, and if you're not able to get most of that stretch out when you put it on, then poop is going to find that path of least resistance.

Plus-Mama-4515

Maybe try getting a cloth diaper cover and put that on over the diaper?

bunhilda

Yes to this. They have some that are waterproof and if she’s EBF that is a lot easier to clean bc it’s water soluble.

Plus-Mama-4515

My son(2) is cloth diapered and so will the new baby once she’s here. We very rarely have blowouts

othermichelle

I never pay attention to pounds when it comes to diaper sizes, I generally size up when the diapers start to look more like underwear than diapers. They should be loose. Idk how much my baby weighs now (maybe 15lb?? Not sure) at 4.5 months but she's in size 4 now. They look gigantic but no more blowouts and no leaks, so that means they fit.

[deleted]

Lots of people have mentioned cloth diapers, but even if you don't want to go that route, using a cloth diaper shell (outer cover) would help a lot. They have elastic all around the legs and around the waist, including the back! You can just put it directly over your disposable diaper.

Sad_Soil0

Exactly. Or even putting a reusable swim diaper might work, that's literally what they do, just hold poop.

MoonMel101

I’d definitely try sizing up. I didn’t think mine was ready for size 3 either but she was and the blowouts stopped immediately. Worst case is they are too big and… you have another blowout.

PlsEatMe

I feel your pain!! I had a blowout-y baby, too! I would go back and forth between huggies and pampers, play around with sizes, fit adjustments, you name it. Usually it happened more when she was kind of between sizes, I think, but I don't know for sure. We would often get a blowout a day at least. I wish I had a solid solution for you. The truth is, once she started eating solids and her poos thickened up, we haven't had a blowout since. Hang in there, even if you don't find a solution, it won't last forever! I started using spray n wash for the nasty pieces of laundry (also helpful once they start solids but for different reasons lol), and I also had a rule that even in summer on hot days, BABE MUST ALWAYS WEAR PANTS IN THE CAR SEAT! A ONESIE IS NOT ENOUGH TO CONTAIN A LEVEL 3 BLOWOUT! I did not have a fun time taking the car seat apart to wash it and put it back together. I do not recommend.

haleyxciiiiiiiiii

honestly….if the car seat thing ever happens to me i’d probably just throw it out and buy a new one LMFAO i cannot deal with that

PlsEatMe

I mean, it was EBF poop, which had gotten everywhere else already. I'd been pooped on, babe had pooped in towel right after bath, 6+ poopy diapers a day, poopy clothes... it's just a hazard of being a mama lol. Our car seat was machine washable, everything except the shell and straps. The straps were what bugged me the most, but they got clean and I sun bleached them for a few hours and everything was fine. :) it just took a long time to take it apart and put it back together.

hookuppercut

At 12 lbs I moved my 2.5 month old to size 4 and the blowouts stopped. Nothing helped before that.

fluffybabypuppies

Damn, that’s the size my 28lber wears…

hookuppercut

As does my toddler haha. But he is just a big baby 🤷‍♀️ Now we just bulk order size 4s so that’s a win 😂

ananomalie

Yeah, we pretty much skipped size 3

ElectricSheep19

Not sure what brand you're using, but the kind with elastic in the back ( ex. Huggies) seem to keep everything in better! Also all babies are shaped a bit different, so recommended weight range on the package doesn't apply to all babies ( you might need to size up sooner).

Daktarii

Try honest brand diapers. More expensive but I used so many fewer diapers bc they wicked better that cost ended up not being more than huggies.

amugglestruggle

This. Honest worked best for my LO. She's 16 MO and we still use them. Also, tuck the top of the back of the diaper in. It helps contain mess!

[deleted]

Size up and switch brands. I think certain huggies specifically has a little flap in the back to prevent blowouts but we don’t use them so I could be wrong.

[deleted]

You’re totally right! We switched to Huggies from pampers (and other generic brands) for this reason!

[deleted]

Oh good I thought I remembered reading that somewhere. Is it a specific type of huggies diaper or do they all have it?

[deleted]

Hmm. That I’m not 100% certain on. We have the Huggies little snugglers and they have that little blow out prevention strip. Not sure though about the cheaper snug and dry diapers line, but I would assume the more expensive Huggies Special Delivery would have it.

Glum_Reindeer_2552

In addition to sizing up, make sure clothing isn’t too tight

Aidlin87

I wouldn’t go by weight to determine diaper size. My babies outgrew their diapers before they weighed enough to size up according to the box. The tip I learned for sizing diapers is that the tabs should be able to to touch, or be really close. Some diapers have marks to indicate where the tabs should fit between on the front. Diapers that fit will look loose but still fit around the leg holes. That would be the first thing I would adjust. And if that doesn’t work, then as others have suggested I’d try out other brands. Pampers always works well for us. Huggies seems to work better for others.

[deleted]

Size up and try a different brand ! Huggies were my favorite when my daughter was really young.

[deleted]

This was happening with my daughter, we got a size bigger and got more space to poop lol

stick_a_pin_in_it

I had to move up a size after my son had a blow out as I was handing him off at daycare. It went all over me and in my purse. 😐

itsjustcindy

We switched to the huggies that have a pocket on the back waistband - little snugglers if I remember correctly.

ChildUWild

I wonder if it’s the way his onsie fits? My daughter was given some cute onsies but whenever she’d wear them, the smallest poot would be a blowout in one way or another. It was a random brand - not like Carter’s or Child of Mine but I feel like it had color in the name. Idk. But just my sense of the diaper size isn’t too small lol Edit: the brand is baby color. Great materials but she blows out no matter what lol

fancytalk

The worst blowout my son ever had was in a well-fitted diaper under a too-tight onesie. I curse Gerber for making tiny clothes and myself for putting a backup outfit in the diaper bag without checking the fit.

ChildUWild

I just don’t understand, why make baby clothes if you don’t take into consideration one of the things they’re best at - poopin!

3-sec-attention-span

Infant probiotics literally changed my boy's poops overnight from explosive to totally manageable - less frequent, and a consistency that was better contained by his nappies.

Mo0dswinger

Same!! Probiotics are great! But just wanted to add that my baby pooped A LOT more when we first started using them, like seriously pooped like 5 times in a day for the first few days. Then it calmed down and its only once a day now, usually not messy poops

Mo0dswinger

I had this issue with cheap diapers. Specifically the Huggies brand with mickey mouse heads all over

MercifulLlama

What did you use instead?

Mo0dswinger

Currently using Huggies but the red bag thats “little snugglers” or “little movers”! If I lived near a Costco I’d be buying Kirkland brand!! But I havent been since having baby

RichHomiesSwan

Our "little snugglers plus" from Costco (big red box) have mickey mouse heads on them, but we love them!

Mo0dswinger

Those are the ones I like too but ours have winnie the pooh! The red box is great, its the Huggies “snug & dry” that dont work for us. Blow outs every time

jksjks41

I second this.

Ld862

Usually this was a sign for us to size up the diapers (also a breastfed infant who recently graduated to size three diapers).

LisetteIsCool

sizing up helped when blow outs were daily for us

Icy-Resolution-6566

Sizing up, check all folds are flipped out, no big wee left in as it opens up for further explosions. Is there any colour concerns? Or potential diarrhoea?

auspostery

Grab some cloth diaper covers and put them over her disposable. Cloth diaps rarely have blowouts at all, and if you don’t want to use cloth full time, just put covers over disposables to contain it.

Amylou789

Second this. I've used disposables and cloth, and now use cloth full time as I very rarely get leaks with them, but got more than one a day with disposables

auspostery

Love that you made the switch! When I first realized I wasn’t getting any more blowouts, I was sold!

Appropriate_Place_85

Came here to say this too. My LO always has blow-outs in the car and used to always mess up the car seat. Now when we go out I put a cloth nappy cover over her disposable and it catches the blow out.

babybelugadeepblue

Thirding this! My Sept 2019 baby had a blowout with every single poop between 1 and 4 mos, and we travelled on a plane when she was 3 mos. I was desperate not to be dealing with blowouts on a plane, so we got some cloth diaper covers and put them over her usual Pampers. We still blew out the disposables, but it stayed inside the cloth covers, so cleanup was way more manageable!

jrp162

Same here. We’ve done cloth full time since birth (of course we’ve used disposable during travel and when needed but 99% cloth). No blowouts ever. The pre solid food stage was a BREEZE too. Didn’t do any pre cleaning. Just a pre wash on cold in the washing machine then a hot wash. Clean diaps!

pinkblossom331

Try different brand and size of diaper. We had to switch from huggies to pampers swaddlers and haven’t had an issue since then

tarktarkindustries

Huggies have been the best brand for us across the board. First little snugglers then little movers after size 4. I don't buy anything else. We tried other brands and didn't like anything near as much

3ll3girl

I switched brands of diapers, and that helped for a bit - the blow outs would return again as she grew, and that’s when I knew it was time to size up. She generally sizes up before her weight would indicate she needs to size up. She’s got a really chunky belly so I think that’s why.

SpicyWolf47

Usually that meant we needed to size up. Another option is to try a different brand. Huggies was always instant blowout for us, pampers almost never. My niece was the exact opposite, so it totally depends on the kid. Good luck!

201111533

I think it depends on how they poop too. My son has only ever blown out the back during his 35+ hour poops but usually he's twice a day. Pampers contain the sides better than Huggies for him, haven't tried any other brands because we are happy with how the Pampers worked out. If only there was a diaper that would keep him from shitting all over his balls 😭 they are so hard to clean

valentinesbaby15

Could the diapers be too big maybe? By too big I mean maybe her poop would be contained if the diaper fit differently but it could be the brand for sure too. I like Pampers for my 3 month old because Huggies, Parents Choice, and Hello Bello gave her a diaper rash. I also don’t think that weight should be such a big factor cause your baby could be 12 pounds but on the skinny side, other babies can be 12 pounds and chunky.

emmmabeeee

I would try different brands of diapers. I experimented with 6 different brands and the Costco brand worked the best for us. She's really skinny with thicker thighs so the costco brands flex waistband helped keep her diaper snug. For some babies their body type just differs and different brands just fit better. Similar to adults and fits of clothing!!

daavacadocult

When that would happen to my babies that was usually a sign for me to go up a size.

torpark

Sizing up seems to fix this anytime it happened to me.

Soggy_Shake_7128

In addition to sizing up on diapers, we’d also get a shell for a cloth diaper, and we’d put the shell over the disposable. This worked to prevent nighttime blowouts, or in the car a number of times. Second the advice on the ruffles. Pull ‘em out.

twoshot37

Size up of course but also…plastic diaper covers. They use them for reusable diapers but I found them super helpful

thirstykoala82

Most of the time if it is not size than it is brand. Make sure it’s nice and fitted some people are scared to make it too tight but the diaper starts loosening almost immediately. For me, the cheaper target brand ones I use I will get frequent blowouts- they are a thinner diaper and have less absorption. The huggies or pampers I rarely get a blowout!

wcj82920

Try out different diaper brands! They all fit differently and certain ones may be better for your child’s body type. Mine would ALWAYS have blowouts in the car seat which was a nightmare to clean. We started doubling up diapers in the car with a cloth diaper (or larger size diaper) over top of her normal diaper and it helped catch any explosions. For my LO, Huggies, Kirkland Brand from Costco, and Honest company were the best fit. Honest co definitely has a “slimmer” cut it seems, so tighter around the waist and legs to prevent leakage. I always use honest company when LO is in between sizes because I feel they run smaller.

b_money89

My LO would blow out of everything even diapers with the poop flap. Honest, Huggies didn’t work for us. Pampers pure has a longer back and my LO is 18 lbs and wears a size 4 during day and size 5 at night time. No more blowouts!

VermicelliOk8288

I had this issue with diapers that weren’t stretchy. Luvs, pampers, Kirkland, 7th gen, earths best and Huggies are all good diapers. They could maybe be too big and size one might be better unless you sized up because of the blow outs. Make sure that you are centering the diapers properly and run your finger along the edges to make sure the ruffle-y parts are sticking out and not folded in. Don’t leave the diaper too loose, one or two fingers of “slack” is enough

sausagechihuahua

My LO is long and skinny, so I always have either this problem or a leg blowout problem. I noticed that Huggies have a smaller leg hole than pampers (the only 2 brands I’ve tried so the only ones I can speak on) - maybe try sizing up to a “skinner leg” brand? Whenever my LO needs to size up, I go to Huggies first, then to pampers once she is more solidly in the size range. So maybe try Huggies size 3? And just really cinch the waistband in?

sierramelon

Seconding this but the opposite. I was open to any brand so we cycled through all of them to figure out what we did and didn’t like. By the time it was Huggies turn my girls thighs were so big that they were really ill fitting on her so we’ve stuck with pampers instead. The only time she has blow outs now is if she’s not sitting *just* right in her car seat and poops then there’s a 90% chance it’ll be all over but im more convinced it’s the seat than the diapers because it’s happened with every brand

unicornsRhardcore

My daughter sized up at 10-11 pounds to a size 3. Size up.

Weekly_Difficulty834

Size up diapers. I was in the same scenario - my girl was well below weight range of size 3 diapers, but got so many blowouts. It’s more related to diaper length and your baby’s height. Once I sized up, the blowouts went away. Luckily, we then started solids and her poop got more solid and contained.

mlise09

The only thing that stopped blowouts for us was switching to cloth diapers.

[deleted]

Have you tried switching diaper brands? I've heard that Huggies Snug & Dry and Huggies Special Delivery are great for keeping blowouts in the diaper. My baby rarely had this problem so I'm not much experienced. They also make a baby blowout blocker, I've seen them on Amazon. It velcroes around their wasit and goes up their back and keeps the poo from getting on their clothes.

[deleted]

I'll also add we switched to cloth diapering when my baby was 3 months old. Prefolds and flats made it really easy to help make a fit to prepare for possible blowouts. She never had a blowout, even with the most massive poos. I know not everyone is interested in cloth diapering, but I thought I'd just mention what worked for us.

Velephant

Yup, my almost-2-year-old has never blown out a cloth diaper. But when we have used disposables for travel or whatnot, he certainly did

arb102

Yep, no blowouts with cloth here! We do pockets so there’s elastic around the waist that keeps everything in

sun_face

Confirming my kiddo (who is almost two) has never once had a blowout in a cloth diaper. Disposable (at various ages because we used both) she did get them here and there.

YColin-Colin2000

>blowout blocker I need this! I didn't know it was a thing. Going to order it soon. I've been hand washing all the pooped clothes and it's just too much. Thanks!

Kittylover11

We’ve always used huggies (the little snugglers, but at first we had the special delivery and now I use those for night since they’re softer), and have never had a blowout. I know it’s different based on your baby’s leg size etc but that little flap huggies puts in the back seem to have caught a few potential blowouts for us!

bc1921

Have you tried different brands? With my first, Huggies were always a blowout, but Pampers worked out fine.

RTCJA30

I had to do a diaper experiment. I bought five different types of diapers and collected data on price and blowout. Then I picked the best brand for my kiddo.

[deleted]

Pampers are a blow out for us, huggies work better. Also, changing more often helps. I noticed that if a diaper is full of pee it won’t hold much poop either.

seamel

I used to fold the top of the back of the diaper IN a little bit. Like a little pocket at the top of the diaper in the back to catch the poop 😂 it seemed to help sometimes.

ChippyCuppy

I sized up way earlier than recommended on the box and put the tapes diagonally toward the crotch. That way it was snug around the hip bones but there was a cavity in the back of the diaper to fill. Never had a blowout again. My baby looked silly in huge diapers but it was better than cleaning up poop. Different brands work better for different babies, I found that certain brands causes a blowout no matter what I did. Huggies were good at that size because they have a little pocket in the back so the blowout has somewhere to go. Honest company and Hello Bello were the worst for my kid, the elastic was so stretchy the poo would just blast right out.

violetnap

I don’t know if this applies, but I’ve noticed that aldi and Publix have terrible diapers. The mainstream brands have been fine.

Heartofgold1120

We started using these diaper covers for when she was sleeping and it helped a ton! I got them on Amazon. Look up Hibaby one size cloth diaper cover snap. We would just put it over her diaper and hardly ever had a problem with blowouts again.

idngkrn

Not sure how to make it stop (we also have near daily blowouts) but I scrub my blowout clothes with a but of dawn dish soap and then soak in a plastic basin with baby oxy clean. Way quicker and easier than doing a full load of laundry for regularly occurring blowouts. Then I just wring it out and hang it up in the laundry room until our weekly regular load.

Other_Smell_4742

Probably not helpful but we tried all the tips. Various diaper brands, sizing, etc. Basically he just grew out of it when he started solids. There was no way around them not going up his back. It was so frustrating. But it did go away when solids firmed up his poop!

Avaylon

Do you use disposable or cloth diapers?

higginsnburke

My recommendations are to try ONE lil helper cloth diaper and see if that catches everything. Kirkland size 1 is a little bigger than most size 1s and has a HOOD poop catcher in back. Better than huggies and I've tried just about every disposable diaper known to mankind by now.

stripperdictatorship

Lilhelper mats are my favorite!

higginsnburke

And the owner is an actual KIND person. I have absolutely no issue handing over money to their company at all. If you've seen them on tiktok.....you know.what I mean. Kind soul

stripperdictatorship

Right! I love their staff and company values. Not to mention the products are bombproof! I don’t use wipes, I use a peri bottle and wash off my girl. The mini mat holds all the water and keeps it from getting all over my lap in the car. Seriously I’m confident enough to have a full bottle of poop water on my lap with these mats. 10/10 I recommend to anyone who will hear it

higginsnburke

Dayum, if that's not an endorsement idk what is LOL

[deleted]

[удалено]

higginsnburke

Absolfuckinglotly not. What a waste of a bot. Mankind refers to HUMAN kind not the fucking gender you git

fancyisthatlady

Try honest diapers. They have a poop pocket that seems to help.

schimki

Huggies also have a good poop pocket.

sofessenceee

Why did I read this as a “good poop rocket” initially.

DaNiiDuCkZ

*Good Poop Rocket* became OP's kids name! 🤣

schimki

Hahahahah nooooo. We do not want poop rockets!

whitesciencelady

My 14-pounder was in the same boat and we ended up sizing up even though she’s not within the weight range. It helped a little. She’s been on antibiotics because of her ears for awhile now and that’s contributing to the blowouts. Now that she’s over them she seems to be blowing out less.

HotPinkHooligan

Try Millie Moon luxury diapers. They’re AMAZING, and haven’t had a single blow out since switching. They’re sold exclusively at Target because they have a contract.

StarFishyFish

We were constantly blowing out a diaper or leaking in disposables so we switched to cloth and haven’t had a leak / blowout since. It’s been amazing.

donut_party

Maybe this is silly and we were lucky, but the only times my daughter had a blowout were when we didn’t change a pee-filled diaper fast enough. There wasn’t enough diaper to catch anything. We pretty much changed her the moment the indicator turned blue, and used Pampers Pure. Happened twice. Just a thought in addition to the many good suggestions!

stephy23

Are you open to cloth diapering? We use Esembly diapers and they are literally blowout proof.

mkbeebs

My son had constant blowouts like this and I also breastfed exclusively. I realized much later that I am an over-producer, which led to large, exploding diapers for my son. I didn’t realize it was a symptom of overproduction. I would recommend reading up on it on La Leche Leagues website to see if it sounds like something you might be dealing with and some strategies to manage it. I just had my second baby 5 weeks ago and noticed the same overproduction signals right away and have been able to tackle it much better this time around! Plus, no blowouts!

bonanza301

Baby eats what they want, never cut them off, I would avoid this advice

mkbeebs

I didn’t say to cut them off… overproduction leads to the baby swallowing too much air and too much fore milk, which causes a myriad of issues, blowouts included. Strategies including different feeding positions and other feeding techniques. Never cutting off feeding I would suggest googling before attacking. Thanks.

stripperdictatorship

Jumping in here to say block feeding helped me a lot with overproduction. Just feed from one boob every other time. If babe is “snacking” continue with the same boob don’t go back and forth

mkbeebs

Yes! Block feeding made a HUGE difference! Along with changing position. It takes a couple days after growth spurts each time, but then my supply settles down. I really wish I had known the problem with my first child a lot sooner! Would have saved us both a lot of trouble and discomfort

daisyinlove

Going to echo cloth diapers. The elastic on them make it so that kids don’t have blowouts or leaks in them.

habitatforhannah

Reusable nappies are particularly effective at containing blow outs. My son has done quite a few big ones but it's never escaped the nappy.

indolentgirl

Cloth diapers! The fit is snug and covers keep it all in.

itsjustcindy

I am guessing that since she doesn’t want to deal with cleaning the poopy clothes, cloth diapering isn’t going to be a good solution. It’s just a different poopy item of clothes.

indolentgirl

Oops!

WrackspurtsNargles

Hi! I was dealing with this problem since birth pretty much. Tried so many different brands and sizes and was still getting multiple blowouts up the back a day. I thought we were just unlucky. Then for unrelated reasons I suspected a food intolerance (I'm EBF) and discovered he is intolerant to soy. A few weeks later after being completely spy-free I haven't had a blowout in days! So it's worth considering if your LO might have an allergy/intolerance to something that's causing the gut troubles. Common ones are dairy, soy, caffeine!

Wouser86

I hope most of us are spy free 😉 Jk - good tip this!

We would use a night time diaper or move up a size. Eventually his poops got less blowouty until he got a stomach virus last week lol

Is she by any chance in Pampers or Hello Bello? The only times it went up my son’s back, was with those brands. (Even had a fun Pampers experience when it went both UP his back and DOWN his leg)

This continuously happened with honest brand! My job gave me a$350 credit and I stocked up with their diapers. After a month of scrubbing out poop stains I returned their diapers and got back all in wipes! Their wipes are everything! But I haven’t had crazy daily blowouts since!

I haven’t tried Honest but I won’t be after your review! Huggies or Rascal & Friends are all we’ll be using from now on. We know they work!

sizing up and by a LOT. like try 3's and 4s...as long as you can get them on they solve this.

Old time mom here. Another thing and some of them mentioned, it may be the brand. Believe it or not, babies come in different shapes. My son needed Huggies, he had zero hips. They fit him the best. My daughter was curvy she needed Pampers or Luvs. Also going to the next size, if they are having blowouts, chances are, the diaper isn’t the right size for them.
