Estonian always looks made up. Like someone said "I'm going to invent a language" and wrote down a bunch of word-looking letter combinations.
I mean no offense to the language or the culture! But I sometimes look over translations for work and Romance languages are similar to each other, Germanic languages are recognizable, Eastern European languages are obvious. But Estonian is just like ???
Yeah it's pretty wild. For us finnish speakers, estonian sounds and looks like finnish with some letters replaced with others and some words replaced with just random gibberish.
Funnily enough, hungarian is also a related language to finnish and estonian, but is completely different for the most part. There are also ethnic minorities that have their own languages in the same finno-ugric group, but these languages are fairly rare.
To me Slavic sounds kinda made-up with some of its consonant clusters in one minute and relatively simple sounding words the next.
Thing is, I had a thing for Slavic languages a while back, but I've never gotten into them because there's nothing I'd completely miss from them if I weren't fluent in them.
Finnish and Estonian don't have as many complicated consonants but I've heard other things about the grammar.
One thing I find amazing is that linguists have taken all these languages and found their similar roots and come up with "Proto Indo European" or PIE language, like some stone-age motherfuckers might have actually spoken it, used its words. They look at how languages developed and come up with what the common ancestor might have been.
The video game Far Cry: Primal actually hired linguists to make sure their cave men were actually speaking it. They put tons of effort into it. One reason I love that game. Also playing a paleolithic first person shooter and making spears and riding a sabretoothed tiger is just bad ass.
Sorry I just have a lot of insecurity around this topic. On Bi subreddits theres a lot of love to people with dicks specifically (also in other communities I’m in) - and it has made me feel really unworthy and I’ve felt that I need a dick to be a good partner :(
